E3 has started today and ends Thursday, but there already is tons of stuff out and i think a lot of it is going to be post worthy.

stay tuned to http://e3.gamespot.com/ and http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=event_nav;live (<--- for live video feed and game demos for them )

So far i watched all 3 press conferences and i thought they were ok. We know this is not going to be another 07 but there are some great ones coming out. I thought Sony and Microsoft had good conferences and Nintendo SUCKED. Nintendo completely left out the core gamer, there in trouble if they continue doing this. You can see people abandoning Nintendo for the future years.

But overall e3 looks pretty good, I'm looking froward to buying a 360 or ps3 soon here so I'm paying close attention to this e3.

what are everyones thoughts so far?

I heard Nintendo's was pretty comical... I was only able to catch the 360 conference, and I was fairly impressed. Looking forward to Gears 2, Fallout 3, and the two Banjo-Kazooie's.

The fall dashboard update looks nice too, I don't have any complaints about the avatars, unlike the "hardcore 360 gamers"... I think it'll be a neat addition to Xbox Live, and I could care less if it was copied from the Miis on the Wii, it's common business sense: Nintendo is the best selling system on the market because they're appealing to casual gamers. Now the other companies are following suit. It's all about money.

I don't think Nintendo has ever targeted the "core gamers" (well at least since the N64). That is what the 360 and PS3 are for. Nintendo has always been a family fluff console with niche games. They don't carry too many of the overly violent and controversial games.

They seem to be doing well right now. To this day, I still can't find a Nintendo Wii in a store or in stock online. And they're console is really just an old idea packaged with some new games (moving around a wand to control action on the screen).

I was one of the people who sighed at the announcement of FF going to the 360, but I sit down today and watched the rest of the presentations. First up was Nintendo, who had somekind of awesome snow boarding game that you could control with your feet. After the demonstration from olympiad Shawn White it was off to more games like Animal Crossing and some pretty ho-hum kid looking titles.

After Nintendo's presentation was done, then came Sony, the one that I wanted to see all along. They showed some games such as RFOM 2 that made you go, "holy %#&#! that looks unbelievable. With RFOM2, Killzone 2, and Olivia Munn in my mind I was grinning like a little girl and then came more previews for HOME and a new user-creative game I think was called Little Big Planet, in which the user can make their own levels for the game!

But sadly I couldn't stick around for the whole thing, because of work, was there anything else I missed besides that stuff?

Wow, those people giving the presentations must be nervous as hell.

Nintendo will be fine for a long time, regardless. Like the Gameboy before it, the DS is dominating the handheld market. They're making a ton of money from that. I had a lot of reservations about Nintendo going after the casual gamer market, but kudos to them, because it looks like it's working. I know 40+ year old women (yes, plural) at work that have bought a Wii. They have them in nursing homes now too, for the old people.

For me? I don't care much for the system. I thought the controls were spotty, and for the most part, the games don't excite me. I played a Wii for about 2 weeks (Twilight Princess and Rayman).

I think e3 blew this year.

Microsofts biggest annoucement was a game that will also be on the PS3.

Nintendo really was boring.

Sony showed a lot of stuff from last year that just haven't released yet and the new stuff they showed was pre-rendered (God of War III and M.A.G.).

From what I read e3 is going down hill and this year may have been the last. Leipzig and the Tokyo Gaming Show are the new e3 and the big 3 are saving most of their best stuff for those shows.

Get it right, Sonny...we're in our 70's. And, I'm looking forward to Animal Crossing for Wii. I haven't seen a list of their other announcements to know what else excites me.

You guys have to define "core gamers" or "hard core gamers" for me. Nintendo does just fine judging by the numbers, wouldn't you say? Second, how can anyone say the controls are junk?? Guess it's just difference of opinion because I can't image playing with a traditional controller ever again.

So, why don't you guys quit slamming the biggest gaming company in history? Nintendo isn't for kids. Nintendo is for everyone. Big difference.

Hardcore gamers: If anything resembles fun, stay clear! The only real games are challenging games, and games with a lot of blood and gore. Also extreme fanboys, meaning they hate everything that isn't their system.

I define it as non mini game compilation's and small games that take short to play and beat. Sure the games are fun but there's no replay value to them. hardcore games imo are games that have single player campaigns that take a while to beat which Nintendo lacked to show this year so far.

Totally agree... although, I believe his answer was sarcastic. But it was a good question. What's a hard-core gamer? I don't think there's any one answer...

I guess I consider myself a hardcore gamer. Not as much as I used to be due to time/money restraints, but some traits that make a "hardcore gamer."

1) No platform loyalty at all.

2) Usually plays games from different gaming generations at any time. (eg. Just yesterday I finished a game called "Legendary Axe." It was on the TurboGraphx-16 system. Remember that one? Came out before the SNES made by NEC. I heard it was a good game so I sought it out and got it, played it, and beat it. The game is 19 years old. Casual gamers don't usually do that kind of thing. Hard-core gamers do.

3) Hardcore gamers tend to love difficult games as it tests their gaming skills. I know I do. The challenge of beating Ikaruga or Metal Slug 3 (on the Xbox) kept me playing them over and over again. I think a lot of casual gamers don't care enough to put that kind of effort/frustration in.

4) But the biggest factor which determines if someone is a hardcore gamer has to be time and effort. How much time do you put into researching games, buying games, playing them? When you have free time, is it the #1 thing you want to do, or would you rather watch some TV instead. For a hardcore gamer, I think gaming is the #1 hobby and more time and money is spent on that hobby than on anything else.

As far as what Nintendo is doing, I think they're right. The market won't support 3 systems all directed at the same target audience. Nintendo made the decision to go after the casual gamer with games like Wii Sports, Wii Fitness, etc, and they've made a killing. Good for them. They're intuitive and fun. You don't have to be a gamer your whole life to learn how to play and enjoy it within minutes. But those games won't get *me* to buy the system anytime soon. Metroid, SMB.. now some more of those would convince me otherwise. Until then, I've got about 1000 games I've never played from various other systems to keep me plenty busy.

I thought they were slamming Nintendo not Sony!!???

j/k, I like the Wii, and it's doing very well, but Sony is the only gaming company to surpass 100 million units sold, and they didn't do it once, they did it twice!!

I do expect the Wii to sell more than 100 million units though. Unless Nintendo releases another console. Wii has already surpassed the gamecube. It's beating out both M$ and $ony so it's got nothing to worry about. It's won this gen, no doubt. But people do want more games including the next Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong Country, the platformers.

As for my defenition of Hard Core gamer, well to me it's anyone that plays games regularly. I don't care what game it is, whether it's Animal Crossing, Pokemon or Halo 3.

A casual gamer is someone tha buys a system to have for parties and play once in a blue moon.

The reason hardcores want more respect is becasue they will typically buy 4-6 titles a year where a casual will buy 1 - 2. But what the typical hardcore gamer don't understand is the casual gamer out numbers them 20 - 1. So that's 20-40 titles sold compared to 4-6.

Casual gamers are where it's at $$$ wise and that's why you see M$ and $ony invest in games like rock band, guitar hero, singstar ect... to get more casual gamers. It's the main reason Sony still supports the PS2. It is a great platform for the casual gamer and it has a great library of games.

Wikipedia has the console sales like this:

Wii - 24.45 Million
360 - 19 Million
PS3 - 13 Million

I would never have guessed that there were only 61.9 million NES's sold compared to 127 million PS2's. I don't doubt the PS2 total....I just always though the NES was the king (everyone I know had one).

Tasty- yeah, you missed a few things. I actually recorded it, and it ended before Sony was done, so I may have missed more as well.

IMO, Nintendo's conference was pretty weak. Sony's was pretty great. Some nice surprises. Maybe none as huge as losing FF to the 360, but some cool stuff.

They announced a MMO game solely based on the DC comics called DC Universe online. You can play as good or bad, any character such as The Flash, Batman, Green Lantern, The Joker, etc... and it works like a MMO ( massive multiplayer online). Not a fan, but I can see comic book fans drooling over this one.

They showed Home, which is looking 10x better than it did last year (but just release it already!).

The also announced their downloadable movie and TV show service was available immediately that day after the conference, which I thought was pretty damn cool. You can rent or buy movies, and also take them on the go with your PSP. That is, if you own a PSP.

They previewed a bunch of PS3 games. You mentioned a few. Infamous looks crazy. Sand box game where you can go anywhere and do anything like GTA, but think superhero or supervillain instead of Niko Bellic.

IMO, Little Big Planet is going to do huge things for the PS3. This game could really set the PS3 off.

They also talked with several game developers who claimed they are just starting to tap the potential of the PS3, and these 3rd generation games being developed are much more advanced than the games released early on for the PS3. They also said games like MGS4 couldn't even have been made on the 360.

I also saw an annoucement that Zipper Interactive, owned by Sony and creators of all the SOCOM games for the PS2, is working on a "new genre" dubbed MAG. Or massive action game (I think that's what they called it.) Basically, it's a cross between an online action/shooter game and an MMO. I HOPE THIS IS ANOTHER SOCOM!!!!!!! This game will feature teams of 8 players fighting with up to 256 people. Sweet!

Hmmmm, what else..... a TV program available through GT5 Prologue online.

I missed it and didn't rewind, but they were talking about some other kind of program with the PSN that I'm not remembering, except the few seconds I caught of it sounded interesting.

The showed a lot of games in development for the PSN, including a new Ratchet and Clank exclusive to the PSN, flOwer, which is the sequel to flOw, some game called Fat Princess (LMAO!), a new map for Pain! and some kind of kung fu game with ragdolls which looked pretty damn cool.

IMO, Sony had a great conference. They're claiming 75 exclusive titles at this point, which is a LOT.

True that, the TV and movie renting/buying feature is VERY nice, not as many trips to Blockbuster or the library now, lol. I love this feature because of it's conveniaece and its ease of use, plus It's also nice that I finally get to start Prison Break Season 3.

I haven't looked at it yet. I came home last night from work and watched their conference, then found out my internet went down after I saw the announcement. It was still out today until I came home tonight, but wanted to watch G4's coverage of E3 tonight. I'll check it out for sure this weekend.

Did you watch Nintendo's conference? I thought it was disappointing. They usually are good for some cool surprises, and didn't have much to offer this year.. I know a lot of people were hoping for some Zelda or some other old franchises brought back to life, and it didn't happen.

LMAO - OMG, sometimes it's cool to see people with twisted minds making video games.

This is a Sony exclusive to the PSN. Meaning, you can only download it online, and it's usually a low price. Basically, it looks somewhat cartoony, but apparently is gory. You have 2 teams and have the opposing princess in your base. The object is to get your princess back while preventing the other team getting theirs. The twist is, you can go out and find junk food and force their princess to eat it, making her get fatter and fatter, so when they do come to break her out, she's too fat to move and it'll take more help. Friggin' hilarious.

Here's a link to IGN's story about it. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/890/890482p1.html

Some of the japanese developers specialize in that. Most of those Treasure games leave me wondering what the hell those guys were on when they were making it (Stretch Panic). But, man, they make the funnest games.

That Fat Princess looks great and original. Original games with character/style go a long way with me.
