Carson Palmer cannot mask his hate for you, Buckeye fans By MJD During a recent interview with a Los Angeles radio station, Carson Palmer was asked to give his thoughts on the upcoming USC vs. Ohio State college football contest. And despite earning his living in a state where Woody Hayes commemorative plates are treated with more care and love than newborn babies, Carson couldn't help but let loose with his hatred of all things Ohio State: "I cannot stand the Buckeyes. It's amazing to hear what those guys think about that university and what they think about that football program and Tressel and all the crap I gotta put up with being back there." "I just can't wait for two years from now when SC comes to the 'Shoe and hopefully we'll have a home game that weekend, and I can go up there and watch us pound on them in their own turf." " I'm really getting sick of it, and I just can't wait for this game to get here so they can come out to the Coliseum and experience LA and get an old-fashioned Pac-10 butt-whoopin' and go back to the Big Ten." Goodness. That's some straight-up hate. And it's ill-advised hate, given that about 90% of the people who fill Paul Brown stadium to watch Carson Palmer play are also Buckeye fans. Actually, let me rephrase that ... they're not just Buckeye fans. They're people who, if they were standing in front of Carson Palmer and Kirk Herbstreit, and both quarterbacks were engulfed in flames, and they had two fire extinguishers at their feet, they'd use the first extinguisher to put out the fire on Herbstreit, and they'd use the second extinguisher to beat to death anyone who suggested that Tom Brady was better-looking than Herbstreit. So Carson did a little backpedaling today, via a statement on Bengals.com: "I'm a Trojan all the way, and I was talking to a Trojan audience in California. I guess I got a little fired up, as all good fans will do. But I really do respect the Buckeyes, and I know their fans are passionate, too. I hope they all understand I'm just looking forward to a big game for my school against a very tough opponent, and that it's all in the good fun of a rivalry. You don't have a real rivalry unless both sides are great teams." Mmhmm. I'll let you decide which quotes from Palmer sound more like a guy expressing his true feelings. Link

Good for him. If he hates OSU and wants to say something about it he has a right to....however when playing pro ball in Ohio sometimes being silent is the better option.

One might think that this guy has all the BS he can handle with his crappy team without stirring the pot in the same state that's supporting his sorry arse!

I'm actually offended he backpeddeld off his initial statements. He's from Cali, went to USC and still supports his team......I would expect him to say those sorts of things about the Buckeyes, Hurricanes or Sooners. He's from USC!
And just because he makes his living in Ohio doesn't mean he has to support the teams from that state. I'm from Ohio, I'm working in Illinois and I can't stand most of the teams here (I do root for the Blackhawks). Am I a jerk if I say the same things about how I like the Browns and dislike the Bears? Pffftt....lame.

I feel sorry for the guy because he is stuck on a bad team in Cincy and his alma mater is about to get their brains beaten in by OSU and thus ruining his national championship hopes for USC. I mean he has nothing to look forward to this season so I don't blame him for lashing out and trying to bring everybody down with him.

I agree with you, Punch. We jump all over people who give up their loyalties for one reason or another. Just because this guy plays in Cinci doesn't mean he forgets where he went to school.

I would hope people would respect me (or at least not think I'm a jerk) for keeping my loyalty to my hometown teams. Or maybe, they think I'm a jerk for a number of other reasons.

I wouldn't expect the guy to be an OSU fan, but what he said showed a remarkable lack of forethought. Heck Braylon has alot more reason to hate the Bucks and he's way more respectful. Seems strange to me that USC would have this much hostility for OSU. /shrug

well put
the other thing is, um dude, you play and live in ohio, of course people are going to talk about the buckeyes... they are the only thing to brag about in the last few decades...
if you go into oklahoma, you're going to hear all kinds of stuff about the sooners, if you go into austin, you'll hear about the longhorns, gainesville, the gators, etc...
speaking of the blackhawks, are you going to try and get tickets for the new year's day game at wrigley?
it is projected to be the hottest ticket in the city of chicago for 2009...
the hawks are going to be nice this year... they added campbell and huet, and there is a chance they could land anze kopitar from the kings

Ahhh it's common knowledge that outside of the Buckeye State that the country hates Ohio State. More specifically the Ohio State fanbase. It's all good b/c we hate you too! You should see some of the things random people send me when they come across my myspace page.

Braylon even did O H I O during a game last year. His reason? Because he is a Brown and lives here now Carson is prob sick of all the Ohio State talk he has to deal with while living here. Just like he is sick of all the talk he has heard about the Browns which led to his comments about us. I guess Carson just wants everyone to talk about him and the things he likes only

Honestly, he's allowed to have an opinion, but geez man,., show some brains. You are playing Pro Ball in Ohio,, you make your living in Ohio. Your fans today are in Ohio.. Show a little class.. Say that you want USC to win, say that you love USC.. But bashing the home town favorite college football program and State University.. Man that's just bad JuJu.. Not smart.. Not smart at all. I think he finally graduated from the Chad Johnson Charm and Finishing School....

Well, he also needs to remember that a lot of Bengal fans have loyalty that runs a lot deeper toward Ohio State than it does to the Bengals (no, really??).

EXACTLY, BE is from the most hated rivalry of OSU, yet he still sucks it up and does the OH-IO cheer and hand signs sometimes. I think this is a dumb move on Palmer's part to bad mouth the college team of the same state you play pro football in.
If he ever comes to the shoe I hope they harass him like no tomorrow.

No doubt he is in a crappy situation. I don't feel sorry for him though. He's a whiner just like everybody else on that sorry ass team.

I have zero problem with what he said. many pro athletes trash talk when it comes to their college teams. If the Buckeyes whip up on USC, that will be punishment enough. He will never hear the end of it.

Probably not... I won't say other schools don't have some of it.. but OSU is #1 nationally in the "Whoa is us, why does everybody hate us, we don't get any respect, everybody is just jealous." whiner polls.... with Duke a distant second.

here's how I look at it. Carson aliented a large portion of his fan base.
If a large protion of his fans are Buckeyes fans, he shouldnt be trashing Buckeye Fans and OSU like that. He has obviosly ticked off tons of Bengals fans. So apparently he did something they didnt like, when one of his priorities shold be his fans.
And on our end, we have Braylon, who should hate tOSU 100x more than Carson hates OSU, and you see him on the sidelines singing hang on sloopy.
