Actually Cramps, I'll oblige to give you a grammar lesson. Being a future teacher an all its almost an obligation to the betterment of society. Granted, they should get to the difference between a noun and a verb by the time the folks in Baltimore drop out (5th grade?).

The word loss is a noun. This does in fact mean the definition that you posted. You were saying the Steelers did an action, which would constitute using a verb. The verb form of loss...is lost. So Shep was indeed right. You cant perform a noun, because they only denote something that is; not something that is being done.

Ex: I was reveling in the Steelers' loss. The Steelers possess the loss, its in their L column. Its a concrete thing. What action did they perform get that L, they lost the game, theres your verb. The verb tense is the action part of it, and you were describing an action.

Keep in mind prepositions make a difference. You inserted "fact" as the subject of the preposition "in" in your sentence. That is another possible mistake...commonly made by middle schoolers. In my above example "in" is a preposition and loss is the subject of that preposition. In your sentence you made "fact" the subject of your preposition; not loss.

Ex: I was reveling (in the fact) the Steelers loss. This is two complete thoughts connected with a prepositional phrase. Each complete thought needs a verb, which in this case would be; "was reveling" and lost. You would never say "The Steelers loss." It would be "The Steelers lost."

I'd rather miss an apostrophe now and then, than not to be able to understand the difference between a noun or a verb. How much education do you have anyhow? High school? I'd imagine you didn't go to college.

Let's see: A noun is a person, place or thing; while a verb modifies a noun. How is that Mr. Future Teacher? And worry about your own education. Indeed I have, but if you would have just admitted you typed an s instead of a t, I wouldn't have felt compelled to point out the difference between a noun and verb. Typing mistakes happen, but you were trying to say that typing "loss" in that sentence was correct, when it wasn't. No harm in admitting a simple mistake, it happens to the best of us.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious! I also mentioned the goal of all 32 NFL teams is to win it all. This does not mean in my eyes that because the Ravens did not win the "big game", that their season was a failure. A disappointment yes, a failure no.



Winning your division is hardly overrated. Winning your division makes you the hunted next season. Winning your division could also potentially lure big name free-agents or add that missing piece or two to get your team over the hump. Plus, winning your division fosters renewed confidence going into the following season. And I did not minimize what the Steelers did in 2004. Not many teams have accomplished what they did. I can only think of two team who had a better season and that would be the "72" Dolphins who of course went undefeated that year, and the "85" Bears who also went 15-1. And slappy? Your 2004 Steelers DID NOT sweep the entire division that year. Their only lost came at the hands of the Ravens - Thanks for playing though. <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> And good the Steelers won a playoff game. Unfortunately, that is all they won. And for the last time, I did not call the Steelers a failure by my recollection.

Well, the one time the Ravens saw an AFC championship, they WON IT! And the last time the Ravens won a playoff game was 2001. They beat the Dolphins.
