You get annoyed with the drops but it's just part of Braylon... It comes with the package... He makes some of the most insanely spectacular catches in the world, they make up for the drops...
With the 80 receptions he had or whatever, alot of those ones we KNOW shouldn't and wouldn't have been caught by a normal receiver... He makes up with those 12 drops or whatever he had with about 12 spectacular catches, it evens out and overall Braylon is a spectacular receiver.

Why is everyone so fascinated with how many times a guy gets thrown to? That has nothing to do with it.
Of course it does! It's basic probability. Even if you only count "catchable" passes, a guy who gets hit in the hands 40 times is statistically less likely to drop as many balls as the guy who gets hit in the hands 80+ times. It's pretty simply really.

I think it's just a matter of time before one of them affects the outcome of a game ... unless he gets better at it.
I would argue that no game hinges on a single play. I think fans tend to get caught up in the performance of individual players when, in fact, it is generally pretty easy to go through tape of a lost game and identify dozens of opportunities lost along the way. A player's poor play can contribute to a loss (sometimes to a large extent). However, a loss is always a team effort.

I'm a huge BE fan, but I think he really needs to improve in this area.
On this point we are in complete agreement. I don't think anybody has said BE DOESN'T need to improve in this area. In fact, I would bet that if you asked him, HE would say he could improve in that area.

It's hard to argue with that logic and argument. It's a good one. I just believe a receivers job is to catch the easy ones first, and if he can make the spectacular catch on top of that, then you have something really special on your hands. But their fundamental function is to catch the ball, especially the easy ones that the QB puts right in their hands.
That's not to say I think a WR has to be perfect. I just think BE drops too many. He does, however, make some spectacular catches. He must have had close to a dozen of them last year. I do, believe, however that if he had dropped some of those spectacular catches, that they would not have been counted as drops.

I noticed now that I brought up those stats that your new argument is 'he gets more thrown to him than anyone else on the team'. Nice. It's still irrelevant.
I didn't mean that to seem to change my argument. You are right, most on the team has nothing to do with it. In fact until I just saw what was posted by Florida, I figured Winslow probably had the most passes hurled his way on the team.
But I like the way you said that we just dissagree, I'm out of this argument. We both know that Braylon drops balls, you think he drops way too many, I think it comes with the package and that a lot of drops come from various other reasons,
We both watch the games and are both fans, just see it differently. What we do agree on is that it'll be great if Braylon improves next year

Well, the "catchable" balls being counted is completely subjective. Since none of us know how many of those were "spectacular" that he dropped, as there isn't a detailed list, you assumption could be wrong.
BE has dropped some balls. Even Jerry Rice did. However, BE has also bailed out DA on MANY occasions and made catches and adjusted to the ball so well that he (along with Winslow) made DA a Pro Bowler.

agreed about catchable balls...what's the determining factor as to whether or not a ball is catchable.
Also, that pro bowl door goes both ways...I think they all benefited from each other...as any good team should.

Actually, I disagree with the Pro Bowl thing. The reason is because DA's accuracey was very suspect. There were many, many catches where KW2 and BE had to make amazing adjustments just to get their hands on the ball.
DA has shown improvement in that area but it wasn't consistent Friday night. Let's hope it continues to improve. That's another thread, but without such great adjustments on the ball, DA's numbers wouldn't have been what they were.

Coachb,, I don't want to appear argumentative, but if you are asking for accuracy, then the term Many Many catches needs to be reduced to a number.
If Many Many means 2, then it's not so bad, but if it's 30 it could be viewed differently. For your point to carry weight, the number needs to be there. but thats JMO..

I understand what you're saying, but to be honest, with the season coming up on me and adjusting to the college game and not being the head coach, I don't have the time to go back over every game and document an actual number. All I can say is that it was more than 2.....more than 2 a game actually. Off the top of my head, I would have to say that as a percentage, it would be in the 30s, but again, don't have the time to back that up with tape study right now.

part of the link between qb and receiver is for the qb to let the wr make a play on the ball. they said it many times last year, get it close, and let the receiver go get it. In order for a receiver to make a catch, somebody's gotta throw it to him.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think with skill positions, they're all related to each other.

No QB is perfect, but the vast majority of balls should hit the player in stride. Too many were behind or above the receiver where the receiver had to make a great play on the ball. The statement you are talking about are made by announcers to somewhat cover bad accuracy on a pass. A perfect example is Friday's scrimmage on STO. The ball was clearly a poorly thrown ball that was supposed to be a fade. DA threw it well behind Stallworth who had to twist completely around to get the ball. There was no reason to purposely throw the ball where DA did because Stallworth was open over the top on the fade. It was an inaccurate pass. DA struggled with the fade Friday night consistently. Yet the announcers talked about what a great pass it was to be placed there. It's called CQBA (cover the QBs....)

That catch tonight was exactly what I was talking about why the drops are sort of "acceptable" with Braylon

It was a great catch, no doubt. It was phenomenal.
I'm kind of ticked that there are some on here who believe it was a bad throw. I think DA put the ball exactly where he wanted it.

Agree 100%. Also, maybe Braylon ran the wrong route? Maybe he was supposed to fake inside and turn to his right or stop and turn sooner than he did? No one ever seems to question the receivers, just the QB.

He may have put it where he wanted to but unless Braylon ran the wrong route it was a bad throw. However, a great catch made it a TD and that is all that matters. But it was still a bad throw.......

Why do you even bother. Your point (and opinion) is a valid one...He drops too many passes...Period!! That doesn't mean he isn't a great player, just that he needs to work on one aspect of his game. He has shown a lack of concentration on balls that should be routine. His hands are not the issue, it's the mental part. I think he will improve. Like you, I don't expect him to catch everything, nobody does. He is an elite player, but he has a flaw that he needs to work on.

Hell yeah, I'm thrilled. Anytime DA just throws the ball of for grabs to Edwars, my 1st reaction is that he is going to make a great play. I'm usually right.

5' behind him and low? Yeah, that's where he "wanted it". Where only a handfull of WR's in this league could have EVER caught it! Are you being serious?
Tell that one when BE or KW2 get knocked out because they're playing acrobat, instead of WR.

Despite what DA himself said as posted by Pdawg, I'm willing to concede it wasn't a perfect pass. But I think the nature of a play like that in it's very concept is a difficult one before it even gets thrown. There are two objectives. Put the ball where only the receiver can make a play on it AND put the ball where the defender cannot make a play on it.
Not only did he do both, it resulted in a touchdown. I think it was a good pass. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't far from perfect either. Can't argue with the end result.

You can't "argue with it" until it costs us a big injury. Then, and only then do I think "some of you" will admit that accuracy IS an issue with DA. Yes, he has moments he looks good. Then he throws WAY off the mark! Will it take BE pulling a hammy on something like that before you admit it? Maybe KW2 getting a concussion to sideline him for 6-8 weeks? You see, you can't hang people out to dry and have them reaching all over the place to catch the ball. It "creates injuries". But you have it your way.

whether it's accuracy or what; DA hangs that ball up there for his receivers to grab--and they can catch it because they're such amazing athletes--but it puts them in a spot to take a monster hit. he is going to get KW or #17 killed one of these days. only their athleticism--and of course the line--is what makes him look good. not to say he's bad, but he's certainly made better by those around him. i suspect if one were to take away his targets and protection, he's a back up. i suspect even Couch could have torn it up with unit team around him.

Did Braylon tell you he was supposed to run that route?
Did you see that Braylon had not even turned around yet when Derek through the ball. He had 2 men coming at him. The running back picked up the guy in front of him but the guy behind him was not picked up and would have gotten to DA if he didn't release the ball. They were at the 2 yard line and Braylon was 6 yards deep before he turned around. Why, if they were at the 2 did Braylon go 8 yards before turning around???
Receivers don't always run great routes, ya know.

Yeah I think DA put it where he wanted to as well, Braylon may have turned around a tad bit late but still made an amazing adjustment.

Might be? If they're on, they ARE unstoppable. Take the Rams game last season. Braylon was in the zone, and DA was putting it on the money. And the deep ball? Put it this way, if Braylon isn't catching 60 yard bombs for TDs, the pass interference calls will do us just fine, because that is the only way it's probably getting stopped. I'm telling you, sign Braylon to a contract for a LONG time. This guy will go down as the best receiver in Browns history.

Firstly, I "quote" the parts I feel need accentuating. Secondly, name calling is against board rules. Stating an unpopular opinion is not. Get with the program.
And no, it is not impossible to exchange views with me. Just because you can't "convert me" to your way of thinking.
It is what it is. The QB is supposed to throw the ball TO HIS WR'S. Not four feet behind them and low. Just like his pass to Jamal and to BE.
When you have your WR's, TE's and RB's, playing "acrobat", it leaves them far more open to injury. Period! And just because a WR or RB CAN make "spectacular grabs", hitting a WR in stride, or at least accurately enough that they don't look like they're doing a circus routine, diminishes the odds of injury.
We've seen it too many times. And eventualy, there will be a price to be paid for it. If you don't like the reality of that, that's fine. But throwing some tirade about it is quite unbecoming of you. So don't blame me because you have problems controling your emotions when people disagree with you.
Blaming me for that is not going to help you address that issue.

No, but if you look, you'll see that DA did. In fact, DA said they'd been "working on that play". If that's the case, there's more work to be done.
The CB was in his face. Throwing it "over his outside shoulder" would have created a situation where the DB would have had to go "through BE" to try to get the ball. Obvious interferance.
Now, can you tell me an end zone pattern "designed" for a WR to catch a pass down around his knees?
I didn't think so. You're grasping at straws to excuse an AWFUL throw. Desperation is setting in. He threw five passes and two of them were quite "innacurate".

I don't have agendas, I call them like I see them (despite some people thinking I had an agenda against Frye...nah, he just wasn't a good QB, but that's for another debate).
But Pit, no offense, but it's very clear you have an agenda against DA.
I'm not going to say "he was a completely different Derek Anderson" like it was said when Frye was making sight-adjustments against the Chiefs in last year's first preseason game, but to keep harping on this over and over again is getting old.
But for the love of God...with the way you harpoon DA you'd swear he threw 10 TD's and 25 INT's.
We all know his faults, but his faults look improved so far. Give him a chance in the preseason...I haven't seen enough but based on the reports I hear and the limited footage I've seen, he looks good. Better than last year in decision making, confidence and accuracy.
We'll be able to make a more accurate opinion after the 3rd preseason game. We need more looks, but I'm not ready to write him off just yet.

Ever think Braylon turned around a bit late or went a bit too far in his route? Also, the pass wasn't even near his knees, do you even watch the plays or do you just make stuff up to rip on DA? I'm sitting here looking at the play again, and it's no where even near his knees, I'm actually astonished that someone can actually believe their own crap as much as to say that Braylon had to catch a pass at his knees, when it was at LEAST chest high

Ever think Braylon turned around a bit late or went a bit too far in his route?
Exactly. They might have been working on that play but Braylon went pretty deep in the endzone when they are on the 2 yard line. Maybe he wasn't supposed to go so deep.

Then why would DA HIMSELF say the throw was off? Geez, the length some people will go......they'll even ignore DA's comments about it.

He really didn't say it was off. He said he threw it where he intended, but it may have been a little behind him. But he threw it where he wanted to throw it.
I've never seen such a heated and completely insignificant debate over a scoring play.
Good throw, bad throw...I'll sum it up for all of you...touchdown throw!
