Link Browns add 2 DB's 08.10.2008 The Cleveland Browns have waived DB Steve Cargile and have signed DB Travis Key and DB Brandon Mitchell, the club announced today. Key, 5-10 and 185 lbs., was a former walk-on at Michigan State and played in 40 career games with 113 tackles. A native of Three Rivers, Mich., Key started the 2007 season at strong safety for the Spartans and collected 69 tackles and two interceptions. Mitchell, 6-3 and 205 lbs., joins the Browns after spending his rookie season in 2007 on the Houston Texans practice squad. Mitchell played in 45 career games at Ohio State at both the free and strong safety positions. As a senior at Ohio State, Mitchell ranked fourth on the club with 51 tackles and added two interceptions.

Looks like we have our camp fodder for Cargile and Baxter in place now.

Not surprising after the two 70+ yard plays given up on Thursday. But are these guys the answer?
Phil is going to have to make a stronger move to shore up the inexperienced defensive backfield. The season begins four weeks from today. Plenty of time to get someone in and acclimated to the system.
But it's nice to see that Phil is working the phones and in no way is willing to stand pat.

Would liked to have signed a guy with some experience, but oh well. A rook and a guy who spent a year on a practice squad doesn't count for much, but it's a body I guess. That's all they'll probably end up being.

yeah, or one of them could be the next bodden too....
right now there is probably no vets to speak of....
you evaluate, and teach these rooks....might get lucky....but probably not...
when first cuts happen, is when we'll make a move...but even then our chances are slim...a trade is how we'll get someone if we really need them...
i expect rac and phil to make it sound like we are comfortable with what we have....and then make a trade if thats really not the case...
Attitude is everything....FEAR THE ELF!!!

I would have liked to get some players with skill in here as well. These are probably just some bodies to take up space until the player cuts start taking place. At that point im sure Phil will be looking at who is cut from other teams that might be able to compete here for a DB spot.

Could be the next Bodden, yes, but my fear is the lack of depth now. If a guy goes down, IMO we could be in trouble. Might not be the best time for a young guy to sit and learn.

A great pass rush will make anyone playing in our secondary a better player.
I think that's the key for this season.

They are both safeties,so I doubt that. This is more of an indication of our back-up safety play, than lack of depth at the corner. To his credit,Sorensen is a godd ST'er.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

My thoughts exactly. I tend to think that it could get ugly unless we pressure the QB and that is even if our starters stay healthy. I liked what I saw with the big boys up front in the 1st quarter against the Jets, both run and pass. It appeared to me that Kameron and even Andre had some "freedom".

Maybe the bomber scores DO matter to Crennel, or Doc Savage is letting him know it SHOULD matter more than he suggests in the website article quting RAC. But this is trading sideways for practice numbers; neither is proven at this letter as what we sorely need. The Savage gonna have to find us a vet with ability to make this go, certainly something more proven than this pair IMO

we sign for secondary help, but Doss is still out there, hes worked with tucker, and i think he'd be a good backup.
I mean was he really that bad with the colts?
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Either they don't think he's the answer, or he's too expensive.. Hey, wouldn't Tucker be very familier with Doss?

Isn't Doss a safety too? JMO,but I think they are looking for a back-up/developmental type safety to put on the practice squad. That is unless.... they are thinking of moving Adams to corner

I think Andra Davis is a serviciable player, please don't confuse him with Andre Davis, former brown, wide receiver and a player I like moreso. I'm wondering what Andra Davis Lb will do to cause the Browns to win a game soon, hopefully something, but one series and a rain delay I can't hold that game against him.
\
I think it's too much wishful thinking to expect the Browns to always be able to pressure or sack quarterbacks in this league through a season, But I hope to see creative and innovative ways to attack offensive protection.
The plays of Sean Jones, and Brodney Pool will be very important this year no doubt.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
