I doubt this entirely: via www.KFFL.comTitans | Team begins search for GM Sat, 13 Jan 2007 06:28:01 -0800 Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans have begun to discuss possible candidates to replace general manager Floyd Reese. Green Bay Packers Director of Pro Personnel Reggie McKenzie, Seattle Seahawks Vice President Mike Reinfeld, Miami Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller and Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage are possible candidates the team may interview.

I agree. Also, I just don't see Savage going there. It seems to me he's trying to build this team. I know, unless they were just going to throw me a TON of money, I'd rather build up a crappy team like the Browns. If you can do that, you'll really go down as one of the best. Like I said, I think this is pretty wild speculation and won't go anywhere.

Just another media type that throws stuff out there to see if he can stir the pot.. I just don't see it happening. My number 1 reason is this, Randy would never have allowed Phil to take the Microphone for a end of season presser if he wanted him gone.. and since it would be a lateral move, if Randy doesn't want him gone, he won't give permssion.... Thus, this is an idiot reporter. Now, having said that, this is the NFL and if one thing is certain, it's that NOTHING is certain.

I am going to play devil's advocate on this one.
I would not be surprised to see Lerner give Savage permission.
Everyone remembers the infamous Collins/Savage debacle last year. Although it is unsubstantiated, let us pretend the initial reports were accurate and Lerner was not happy with Savage. The story leaked and the FO was swamped with calls and emails blasting Lerner and the organization for canning Savage. The FO fixes the situation, keeps Savage and saves face.
Fast forward a year. If (the operating word being if) Lerner is unhappy with Savage, this is the out he has been looking for. All he has to do is let the Titans interview Savage. Lerner can be perceived as being a nice guy for allowing Savage to do so, and then if Savage wins the job, it will be Savage and not Lerner who is scorned by the fans.

I know public relations is important to the NFL and it's teams, but do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that Randy Lerner, a man worth something in the area of 5 BILLION (yup that's with a B) cares what any of us think...
He's helped build and run a Multi Billion Dollar Empire,, he knows one thing for sure,,,, You need to hire good people and get out of the way and let them do thier jobs..
If Randy didn't think that Phil was the right guy last season, he'd be gone despite what you or I or the rest of the fans say..
Sorry, I'm not buying any of this bull... It's made up to get peoples shorts in a bunch..

I'd really like to believe that this is smoke blowing. I really doubt that Phil is going anywhere for at least another year or two. RAC will be gone first before Phil. imo

To me, that makes way more sense... RAC will go first,, Phil will be given several more years before Randy tires of him...

Or Phil turns it around and we create a defense that's like the bully in a prison like the Ravens D.

More importantly, if he requests to be allowed to interview for the job, he should be fired..... Two years in and if he does that, he's no better than Saban in my eyes.... and Saban is pretty close to the bottom of the barrell to me, Talk about SCUM BUCKETS?

This is all it says, they see him as a possible candidate. They probably think he might be fired for a bad season. They dont really know this, it just puts Phil on thier list of discussion. They will soon find out he is not available.

I love Savage. I have said multiple times that I want Savage and RAC to stay, that they need to stay long-term.
All I did, was bring up a possible scenario where IF Lerner was not happy with Savage, this could be an out that would let Lerner save face.

You are still buying that BS that Junior really was NOT influenced by the outrage of the media and fans last year? You are either very gullible or a relative of Junior.

Vers, I don't think Junior is any more influenced by media and fans than any other owver, GM, Coach or player. Especially the media. Now I'm sure he listens to the fans to some degree but he, nor any other owner, GM, or Coach, can let the media and fans run the team.
Having said that, I don't think Phil is going anywhere. RAC on the other hand is on the unofficial hot seat. Next season will either take him off of the hot seat or be his seat on the first bus out of town. Depends upon the success, or lack, of the Browns.

I know I'm jumping the gun here, but lets assume the Browns have another season below .500 in 2007...the question is,if Cowher is hired as the head coach can him and Phil Savage co-exist.especially on player personal moves?

Well, that wasn't what was in question. Here's what Daman said:
If Randy didn't think that Phil was the right guy last season, he'd be gone despite what you or I or the rest of the fans say..
Savage would have been gone. Junior and Damien were in that together. The backlash from the media and fans was intense. Junior relented and instead threw Damien to the curb.
And anyone who believes otherwise is either stupid or such a homer that they refuse to admit the truth.
Back to your original statement for a moment. I actually think a lot of the Brown's decisions have been influenced by the what the media and fans have said in recent years. It's one of the reasons I think Junior is a terrible owner. Marketing rules! Think about it........firing Arians, Fazio, Butch, Mo. All were being chastized by the idiot media and fan base. Unless RAC wins, he won't survive the onslaught from those two groups next year. And what do you think the odds are that the Browns win next year?
I know I am being negative, but I am so sick of this organization firing coaches and thinking that is going to solve the problems they have.
Fire the OC. Fire the DC. Fire the head coach. Fire the S&C coach. Fire the OC. Fire multiple assistants. Fire another S&C coach. Begin talking about firing the new HC.
Jesus, just once I wish they would hire the right guys and stick w/them. Hell, we don't ever know if we have the right guys because we don't allow them to finish the job they started. The constant upheaval only leads to consistent losing.
When will they......and you guys.........learn?
This franchise has been in a constant state of flux since Junior took over. And I feel they will be as long as that jerk owns the team. He's appears to be the prototypical spoiled rich kid who has been fed w/a silver spoon his entire life and wants what he wants now and if he doesn't get it.......throws a temper tantrum. That act doesn't work in the NFL.

I like Romeo and I like Phil, but let me say that if it came down to the two, I would fire Romeo in a heartbeat if it meant losing Phil Savage. This guys has brought wha this team has been mising for years. Respectable scouting, and talent evaluation. I said to my girlfreind the other day (she hates listening to it but she has no choice ) " We could fire everyone and I wouldnt care, but if they fire Phil savage I would be totally disheartened." I want phil savage here, and what better project than the Browns?

i see alot of people talking lateral move. if the titans want savage, they'll throw anything else they want in there to get him. so i don't think lerner could stop him if were going to bigger things. that being said, i think the writer just threw names out there just because of the press some are getting, or the article wouldn't have read "possible candidates".
tradition can only carry you so far, then you have to start winning again.

Vers, I can assure you that I'm neither gullible or a relative or Randy Lerner,,
What I am is a person that has a weatlh of business experience working for individuals of extreme wealth.. What I've learned is that to a person, they really don't care what public opinion is as long as they can find a way to spin it in thier favor..
Randy has BILLIONS of dollars and for you or anyone else to think that he couldn't hire the best spindoctors to minimize this situation is just plain stupid.
The one thing you have to know about the wealthy is that there NEVER just one thing to know... They are aware of things that the average person never sees,,, never sniffs,,, never even thinks about,, it's difficult to understand unless you have been exposed to it as I have,,,but it's there... And I only scratched the surface of whats in front of the wealthy.
Now I wasn't in the room, and I was not privey to any of the inner workings.. But in my experience,,, no matter what the public outcry was, if Randy wanted Phil gone,,, He would have been and that is something you can take to the bank.

I'm glad you hob-nob w/the wealthy.
Now, I am going to tell you again.......... Savage was going to be fired. Damien was the mastermind, but Junior supported it. Damien and Junior were very tight at the time. The public outcry did change Junior's thinking. I am not doubting what you say about the wealthy, but I'm telling you how the thing went down.
Bank on it!

Vers...your not only being negative, but damn misleading bordering on dishonesty.
......"I think Junior is a terrible owner. Marketing rules! Think about it..firing Arians, Fazio, Butch, Mo"............
Who fired Arians?...I will make it easy for you..."BUTCH" fired Arians, not Lerner.
Who fired Fazio?...Vers, again, I will make it easy for you..."BUTCH" fired Fazio, not Lerner...*
....* BTW, it was Butch making critical defensive calls in the Browns one and only playoff game against the Steelers. Then Butch fired Fazio the next day leaving everyone thinking Fazio made the defensive calls that helped to attribute to the Browns losing the game.
Who fired Butch?...."BUTCH" fired "BUTCH"...Vers, remember Butch talking about his health being at risk? Butch's comments that he had a panic attack before the Bengals game and he thought he was going to die.
Vers...Butch took the golden parachute that Lerner offered him and walked away from the mess he had created. Butch made a mess of the Browns and walked out on his team with 5 games left in the season. Butch took the money and ran.
Who fired Mo?...I suspect it was Savage that fired Mo possibly with input from Lerner...
The question that should be asked, why wasn't Mo fired after his first season? and Why didn't Crennel fire Mo after last season?
IMO, keeping Mo as our OC cost the Browns any chance of improvement in this season. The offense worked with Mo and his offensive playbook the entire offseason, training camp and pre-season. Half way through the season, it becomes obvious that Mo's offense is terrible, just like last season.
Savage did, what Crennel should have done, after his first season, fire Mo Carthon. Savage put the franchise ahead of friendship, something Crennel could not bring himself to do.
Vers, if the Browns do not show progress next season, Crennel will likely be gone. No one should make excuses if Crennel's attempt at being a head coach in the NFL, ends up as a failure. But if Crennel does fail, it won't be because Lerner or Crennel made him fail.
Vers, your better than this. You know football and you love the Browns (I think) but for some reason, you want target Lerner and Savage for the failures of the team and the failures of players to perform up to your expectations. Butch is gone due to his own actions and same with Holcomb.
Vers, stop the "agenda"...again, your better than this...mac

Vers,,,, why are you so condosending toward me? What did I ever do to you to deserve that kinda treatment?
I NEVER said I Hob Knob with the wealthy,,,, I just worked for them,,,, as in I was a VP for several companies owned by wealthy men....High enough in the company to know what the thinking was... Nothing more,,,,and if you look at what I said, you will see that I used this expression "in my experience" meaning based on what I've seen..
I also indicated that I wasn't in the room which leaves room for some doubt of my conclusions. I admit that since I wasn't part of the discussion, I could be totally wrong,,,, I just doubt it based entirely on my experience.
Now you on the other hand,,,,You offer no proof of what you say,,, (not that it isn't possible,,,,of course it is) you just say it and expect me to accept it as fact,,,,,, What the heck are you smoking? as if I'm going to believe something just because YOU say it's so.....

mac, you can pass the blame all around. But, Junior is the man in charge. There have been an inordinate amount of firing under his so-called leadership. You are correct that he didn't directly fire those men, but open your mind up and look beyond the storefront façade. Junior is the one putting the pressure on. And I could tell you a few stories that aren't even out yet that center around that pressure. Quote:
Vers...your not only being negative, but damn misleading bordering on dishonesty.
This is the type of [censored] that pisses me off. Guys like you and Turd and others accuse me of lying, then when the facts come in........you never acknowledge what I said was the truth. And when the next argument comes up, you start calling me a liar again. It seems more like trying to discredit an opposing opinion than being fair-minded and in the search of truth.
How about I ask you to stop attacking my character and stick to topics that are relevant to the Browns? I didn't come on this thread and call you any names or question your character. I was speaking about the Junior/Damien/Savage situation last year. That is about the Browns. Not about you or anyone else for that matter.

Not exactly true. I still remember your comments during the Couch Wars. Below the belt! But, I will apologize anyway. I should not have made that comment about hob-nobbing w/the wealthy. It was actually a joke, but I guess you didn't find it funny. I apologize.

I'm not asking you to believe me, but how many times have I told you guys things before they happened? Use some common sense here.
And it's fine if you choose to not believe me, but the next time you chastize a poster for saying that Junior agreed to get rid of Savage......well.........I'm going to stick my nose in there again, because I do know the truth.
Please don't mistake that for me jumping on your opinions. You could say:
---I really want the WCO in Cleveland and I think we have the talent to run it.
---The defense will dominate next year.
---Savage has the Browns on the right track.
While I might debate those issues w/you because I disagree w/them, I won't jump on you hard. Afterall, they are simply opinions.
However, when people say things that I know to be false, I will make a strong statement. That's just the way I am and it is nothing personal against you.

"are possible candidates the team may interview."
"POSSIBLE" & "MAY"
Which is simply a list of guys this journalist wishes the Titans to interview. Pure speculation and thinking out loud.
Very similar to the breakdown of how Savage retained his position here last season by Vers...Speculation and thinking out loud.

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
