Just on the Home site web site ticker that Browns have released Cliff Louis, OL and signed another OL from NY Giants by the name of Jonathon Palmer 6-4, 335 lbs. He has play for the Eagles and Steelers in the past and more relative to this deal is that while at Auburn he played the tackle, guard and center positions. Versatility is what the coaches want nowadays I assume. web page

Could we already be practicing the game planning side of things??
Probably just fodder, but he must show something that we released someone we already had to bring him in.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Yes, no disrespect here but, that's all this guy probably will be. In other words if you're signing a potential back up player; the more versatile he is the better.

He hasn't "played" for anyone.....ever.
He went through camp in 2007 with the Eagles and was cut in final cuts. He was added to their practice squad on Sept 20th and then cut from that squad the very next day.
The NYG worked him out on Dec 4 of 2007 and the next listing is the Raiders signing him away from the Steelers' practice squad and then re-signing him as an ERFA in March 2008 and then releasing him in July 2008.
The NYG signed him on July 21st and placed him on PUP waivers 3 days later. KFFL

The Browns usually carry nine OL on the 53 player roster and one or at most two OL on the practice squad. At this point Isaac Sowells looks like the #9 player. So the following players are looking to compete for the #9 spot and or the two slots on the practice squad:
Nate Bennett James Lee Derrick Morse Jonathan Palmer Marvin Phillip
Sowells will probably earn the ninth spot leaving the other 5 to compete for one or two of the PS spots. Individually their chances of making even the practice squad, realistically, is less than 50%. The perception is that the line is "thin" at the tackle position. Look for the best tackle to make the PS. We are discussing the PS here on this thread......
