Looks like the Steelers signed Orpheus Roye to add some depth to the D-line. LINK HACK

That's disappointing...and strange.
Steeler to Brown back to Steeler.

That sucks. I was really hoping he would resign him.

What's the deal with all these former Browns becoming Steelers?
Roye, Eason, Morgan, etc.

Its the same reasons all the bengals and steelers and rats becommin BROWNS....1) If they are actually good...why not steal somone frm ur division rival? 2) if they aren't starting material pick em up for cheap so u can have a "scout"

Well hopefully our defense changed enough since he left.

The Browns did not bring him back b/c we have better personnel on the DL at this point. That's my theory.

Understandably. I was just hoping he'd be around in case of injury.

I don't know. I'd give him 10-12 plays a game before anyone else after our first 4.
But if we don't start playing some of these young guys, they may not develop.
I'd be happy to have him back for another year or two, though.

I thought his goose was cooked in 2006. In '07 he was that much worse.
It was amazing how fast he dropped off after a pretty productive '05.
10-12 plays a game? Perhaps he'd be effective.

I just don't like what I've heard or read about the guys after the first four. They are also young and inexperienced. There's no telling what we are going to get with a Leonard or Rubin or whoever else makes the team.
Roye would have the added benefit this year of no training camp wear and tear on his body. Granted, he will have had to stayed in shape.
I know he was hurt a lot last year, but if he only had a limited role in spot duty, I think he could still give us something.

I wouldn't say that they "stole" him from us, it's not like we were negotiating to bring him back.
We felt we were better off with other personnel. If the Steelers want him, so be it.
How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

Hey, best of luck to him. Good luck facing our OL. Obviously we felt what we had as backups was better than Roye. I really liked the guy, but I certainly understood why we let him go. It'll be interesting to see what kind of production the Steelers get out of him.

lol, in my opinion, it's a toss-up because they're different. Also, around here, there's no In-n-Out, so it's Fatburger, hands down.

I mean you either steal them away frm the other team in FA...or you sign him in the FA when the other team no longer wants him and pretty much nobody else either...but he brings value to a division rival of the team he just got out frm as far as "inside tips" go..get it?
Roye is obviously the latter.....
PS- Romeo sounded like he didn't want to cut him, but phil did cuz the D line was a little too crowded. I still remmeber when they announced of letting him go romeo said we will try to get him back later if it's possible. not sure if he really meant that or not...but he thought Roye knew the system pretty good and was a vital part of the D

He also had a $3 million salary for 2008. That played a role in not keeping him around as a part time or rotational player.

I did notice that he always seemed to do better when he dropped a little bit of weight.
I think in '05 he only weighed 305 or so.
The last two seasons I think he was around 320-330.

Well Eason is garbage...remember last year when Smith or Keisel went out with an injury and the Steelers barely beat the Rams. Eason and Hoke I think were the backups..Hampton was still NT though.
Go Browns!

He still has enough gas in the tank to help you guys out as a backup Hack

I wish Roye nothing but the best. He was a quiet leader and a solid performer for us.. I hope we don't regret letting him get away

Good for him, maybe bad for us. He was a warrior and I hoped to re-sign him for help. Go Browns!

"What's the deal with all these former Browns becoming Steelers?"
Its just the cycle of things...once upon a time the poor Browns use to fend off from the table scraps of our divisional foes.
Now we are in the pink...and its them eating our garbage. Its only us going up and them going down

I'm not worried about Roye signing with the Steelers, he's about done anyways. Though he should be decent for depth, maybe for a few seasons. Any word on Bentley signing with the Steelers?

with the degree of complexity of the system we were running, and the lack of success with which we put it into practice, in addition to the fact that we're running a wholly different system, i'd say we don't need to worry about it.
