Well, a 7th rd. pick is not much to give up for depth, provided the player is at least decent depth. I don't really know anything about Daniels? However, why would we not just trade a 5th rd. pick and a player or something like that for Lito? Also, we could have just signed Ty Law, I'm sure we could offer a contract to Law's satisfaction for a season or two. Although I wouldn't want the Browns to grossly overpay for Law.

Because we aren't up against the NFL cap, we are up against the Lerner cap and people can't understand why he doesn't just spend money.
We all have a budget, and the Browns are at theirs......but it is easy for some to spend other peoples money.

Here's is what Michael Lombardi of cnnsi.com said recently:
If I ...
• If I were the Cleveland Browns, I would be a little worried about my team's ability to play man-to-man in the secondary. The Browns' season will come down to their defensive lines' ability to apply pressure on the passer, because right now, the Browns don't appear to be able to cover in the secondary.

Haven't seen this posted anywhere and thought it might provide some insight to at least the Browns are looking for help. Law talking to three teams Posted: Sunday August 24, 2008 06:50AM ET Ty Law, who is still a free agent, remains the top option for teams looking for cornerback help. Law visited with the Jets and has spoken with both Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Browns coach Romeo Crennel. "I'm just training and getting ready to go," Law said. "I should be out there holding it down opening week. I have not decided which team I'm going to play with yet. I have to talk to my agent and family, and will make a decision soon." Link! If Law were to come in, do you think he comes in as a starter, if so who moves back Wright or McDonald?
"I only had a couple of weeks to train, but I'm glad it happened because it gave me a chance to be a Browns player," Bell said.

I see him as the nickel back until he learns the system. In that time we should probably have discovered the weak link between Wright and McDonald and they would likely be moved down to the nickel while Law takes their spot. But Law has lost a step, don't expect the high caliber type player he was in New England or New York for that matter.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Thats kind of what I was thinking, is he really going to be THAT helpful here in Cleveland? At this point though I want to see something done to improve this defense.

If Law can come in and mentor these guys and make them better just by his presence, I'm all for it.

Would he be a noticeable improvement over the guy he would push off the roster? My guess is ... yes.

Unless he takes up a roster spot.

Ty Law isn't exactly rookie friendly. He's a pretty big D-Bag to be honest. In terms of talent he blows away anyone else on the roster, even as bad as he's been since he left New England (yeah he made the Pro Bowl but even Jets fans admit he was horrible that season), but he's not a "mentor." Law is all business, give him a fat paycheck and he'd play for Osama.

If he prepares and performs well on the field, he'll be a mentor by default.

That's a pretty flowery idea of the NFL and how team dynamics work though. If you put a kid in school who doesn't care about his grades next to a straigh A student, will the lazy kid suddenly hit honor roll?

That's not even close to being a reasonable comparison but I understand what you're saying, I just don't agree.

Savage said this morning he hasn't spoken to LAW ..AND THEY HAVE A BUDGET that they used in aquiring Williams/RODGERS..soo they're planning to roll with what they have.. Now what i read into that? If someone is cut that they like, they'll grab him but any expensive vet will not be signed.

Which is what he's been saying all along. There is more to the finances of a team than the Salary Cap... there is a thing called profitability, and that cannot be ignored, especially to the tune of several million dollars.
Yes Randy "spends" tens of millions every year, but those are operating expenses covered by revenue, he isn't dipping into his pocket for that and he can't be expected to. It's just poor business. It's not like he can claim it as a Capital Expense and a business just does NOT make that kind of expenditure beyond their limits unless there is a HIGHLY PROBABLE payoff to justify it. I don't care that Randy has billions, it would be stupidity for him to throw money away like that.
Reality Bites folks, but it is what it is.

Agreed... But even with that thought in mind,, if at some point in the season, we find ourselves in great need for an experienced Corner,, and if he's still there, it may become a move that needs done..
As for now,, I don't think so...,.

I don't know,,, the opposite sounds possible.. it becomes a sellers market at that point.. so the price could go up instead of down.. I guess we will see if it comes to that,, and I certainly hope it doesn't.

I don't... it was a joke. However, if you have ever been near a chicken coup, it isn't beyond the realm of possibility (they REALLY stink bad).
