And judging by the attendance you haven't, the Indians have managed to win a few games, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar Well, not the cellar but they have eyes on third. You have to give it to this team. After losing some big pieces they still are fighting. The won tonight 4-3 for their 8th win in a row. hey, the "Major League" team was 60-61 before they made their run to destiny,,,right? right?

Grady also became the 2nd Indian ever to have a 30/30 season with 2 HR's tonight. Only other one was Joe Carter 21 years ago...
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...

On the Sunday of the Pittsburgh game the Tribe is in town for a 1:00 game with KC(I think KC)
That will make a perfect day for me....see the Tribe, get out in time for 3-4 hours of tailgate, then watch the Browns.
If anybody else is thinking of doing the same, I was thinking of hitting the Lizard around 11:00 that morning for a few wings and a couple of libations.
I figure getting some seats on the street shouldn't be hard.
If anybody else is planning the same, or it sounds like something you might want to do, maybe we can coordinate the plans.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

The Tribe has played well but lets be honest. They started playing right after we gave up the season and traded CC. They can play when the pressure is off.Referance the last 3 years. Cough, Cough.

Dang, that 10-game losing streak right before the break doomed us. And eight of those were against the White Sox, Twins and Tigers. AND we were in most of those games too. That trip goes a little different, we might have held onto CC.....and who knows where we'd be (well, considering we still went on this hot streak). Oh well, here's to getting back to .500 on the year and playing spoiler to the White Sox and Red Sox.
Three best quotes from the movie
Board Member 1: I've never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime. Charlie Donovan: Most of these guys never had a prime. Board Member 2: This guy here is dead. Rachel Phelps: Cross him off then.
and
Harry Doyle: So, here is Rick Vaughn, the one they call the "Wild Thing". So, he sets and deals. Harry Doyle: Just a bit outside, he tried for the corner and missed. Harry Doyle: Ball 4. Harry Doyle: Ball 8. Harry Doyle: Low, and he walks the bases loaded on 12 straight pitches. How can these guys lay off pitches that close?
and
Pedro Cerrano: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come. Eddie Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff. Roger Dorn: Shoot, Harris. Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball. Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

Remember, fans, Tuesday is Die Hard Night. Free admission for anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won the pennant. The post-game show is brought to you by... [searches through his papers] Christ, I can't find it. To hell with it. Heywood leads the league in most offensive categories, including nose hair. When this guy sneezes, he looks like a party favor. This guy threw at his own kid in a father/son game. Well, you can close the book on Kellner. [covers microphone with hand and turns to Monty] Thank God! We don't know where Hayes played last year, but I'm sure he did a helluva job. Heywood's a convicted fellon, isn't he Monty? [Monty: Ah...doesn't really say it here.] Well, he should be! Hayes is picked off! Well, so much for that. Personally I think we got hosed on that call

That sounds like a fun time, Peen. I'd need tickets for both games, though. Not sure if I want to blow more cash then I already have been. But I'd love to spend all day in Cleveland, watching the Tribe, tailgate, then watch the Browns beat up on the Stoolers. BTW, did you say libations?

Rick: What's that on your chest? Eddie: [wipes his finger across his chest] Crisco; [wipes his finger across his waist line] Bardol; [wipes his finger along his head] Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another two to three inches drop on your curve ball. 'Course if the umps are watching me real close I just rub a little jalapeño juice up my nose, get it runnin', and if I need to load the ball up I just... [wipes his nose] ...wipe my nose. Rick: You put snot on the ball? Eddie: I haven't got an arm like yours; I have to put anything on it I can find. Someday you will too.

I agree with you. Some players being off their game hasn't exactly helped, but injuries to key players really hurt us this year.

Funny how good a team can be when they just play.
Sports is and always will be about relaxing. Don't think, react. Muscle memory takes over and the rest is history.
They just need to figure it out at the beginning of the season.

Also.......Andy Marte is fighting to FINALLY get over the Mendoza line. I think he was .195 last night.
Man, you have to wonder why the Braves and Red Sox were so quick to trade him. Oh wait, maybe it was because he stinks. Although, some need more time to "get it". I'm sure he'd get better pitches to hit with Hafner and Martinez in the lineup....but this lineup we have has been scoring some serious runs over the past week.

Yes, he is. And I'm not saying it either. He'll need to be the closer in 09 or else we have to find one in the minors (or trade for one). We aren't spending money on K-Rod in the offseason, that's for sure (not cracking Dolan...I don't want him longterm). I'm worried about 3rd base next year.

just clickin' If it were me, I'd worry about second. Perlata should make the switch from short to third. And don't give me the BS about how hard a switch it is. A couple of extra E's @ 3rd would even out with the balls that he can't get to at short. Asdrub should be at short. Lewis has been great. I kinda like this 3 up 3 down thing. Quite the concept. If he does this through the rest of the year, I say give him a shot. I wouldn't touch K-rod, people were worried about CC getting hurt... Francisco should have every opportunity to have a full time job next year. Can LaPorta hang next year? Garko shouldn't see the field. Vic at first makes this team better. What my guess is for free agents would be: At #3 starter and a couple of bullpen arms. But, what the hell do I know? I though we'd be in the playoffs this year and I though the Sox would finish last.

Funny how that works eh? Pressures off and they play good ball.
9 in a row! 19th for Lee! Too bad it's pretty much too little, too late. but get hot at the right time and have a few teams nose dive,,ya never know!

Yeah Cliff has got the Cy Young on lockdown I almost think he locked that sucker up a few weeks ago when he threw the complete game against the Angels... Should be interesting to see how we finish up. Sounds like Wedge is pondering a 6 man rotation once Laffey is called up again...
I heart winning

I would like to say just finish strong and take that into next year, but as we have seen the Indians don't do that well I think Lee's chances at the Cy-Young rest on how the Tribe finishes.

I don't see how the Cy Young can't go to Cliff Lee
He's # 1 in Wins, ERA, # 3 in WHIP, and # 9 in K's.
Yes I know that K-Rod will probably set the record for saves in one season. He's had 5 blown saves this season. And don't forget Lee has the same number of losses as K-Rod.

do you guys think there is a cardboard cutout of mrs. dolan in the clubhouse, and after each win... well you all know.
i agree, it would be a joke if cliff lee doesn't win the cy young, the guy has been great all year, has he even thrown a clunker? and think about the lack of run support he has gotten in some of these games, i mean up until this month, the tribe couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat

he did blow a 8-1 lead against detroit. he also blew a 3-0 lead against minny. other than that, Lee's been lights out.
our outfield is fine. fransisco is a lock for the corner slot with sizemore. I would start choo until laporta is ready. I'm guessing he starts in buffalo next year.I expect him up midseason similar to when grady came up. I would keep delucci and trade guteriez.
Shoppach should be our full time catcher, with victor at first. I would try to trade garko for a 3rd baseman. cabera looks solid at 2nd.
I would make a move for garland from the angels. he could fill the spot vacated from westbrook. I would then make a push for k-rod, but not more than 3-4 years. he's only 27. he's still has a good 3-4 years left. people say he has lost velocity, but he still has 50 saves in 55 opportunities. I would take k-rod over stiffs like fuentes or brandon lyon. that's for sure.

I've noticed 9 in a row as of tonight. With Fausto going for number 10 tomorrow. I think the main difference is that Marte and Asdrubal are actually starting to hit. Now if Victor and Pronk get back soon we could get an idea of the type of damage we could do next year. Or we could just always pull our best Rockies impression.

Not just a coincidence, IMO. The manager stresses it in every post-game interview that I've heard: "Grind, grind, grind.", he says. But you wish sometimes he would just tell the players "You know guys, this game is supposed to be fun too.". Maybe he does - but I doubt it. There has to be a reason this team only plays "loose" when the season is basically over. I think Wedge's "corporate-model" approach may be wearing thin with the players.
On the other hand, add Sabathia's 8 wins to the Indians and we're 3 games out.
Frustrating.

funny how just about the same time Jenson takes over the closer role, the bull pen starts to take somewhat of a shape and the team starts winning, Good to see. Also Shoppach has , deserves to be our full time catcher next year, Martinez moves to first. I'm liking our outfield of Sizmore, Gutz, & Fransisco with Chew as a back-up Garko will platoon at first & outfield, resign Casy Blake / I say this becuase he might be cheeper than trading & taking on a exsisting contract of somebody and losing a prospect. I do hope Jenson blows a save here sometime in September so we can see how he reacts next time out., Does Jenson have the nads to be a closer longterm, Need another starter, & bullpen help. Were not that far off pace for next year,
