Now here's a question ... the Brewer trade stipulates that if they make the playoffs, we get to pick the player ... and if they don't, then they pick.
But with 2 games left, and a one game lead ... what happens if they wind up in a wild-card tie? They would have a one game "playoff", to see who goes to the first round. Would that be considered "playoffs" ... meaning we pick?

I believe that is technically counted as part of the playoffs in stats and all that, so I would think so. Not entirely sure though.

Despite what 214 said above, I would have to say no. The tiebreaker game is amore actually an extension of the regular season in order to decide who gets to go to the real playoffs. I contend the stats should not count as regular season stats though,....(i.e. what if the HR record was on the line again,....) and shouldn't count as playoff stats either. BIG ASTERISK.

Today is zero-hour for the Mets, they're throwing Johann Santana on short rest. He had been scheduled for Sunday, but a win tomorrow does them no good if they lose today. The Brewers have Sheets today and Sabathia tomorrow (CC's on short rest too). Looks good for the Brew Crew.
Back to the Indians ... what to make of Ryan Garko's year? He pretty much stunk all year when it counted, but has been an RBI machine since Wedge called him out and benched him. He's on the verge of 90 RBI's, which is really something for a guy who has been platooned much of the year. The question is, which is the real Garko? Is he a building block? A piece of the puzzle for the future? Or is he trade bait? I would tend towards "trade bait" ... his strong finish has made him viable to other teams.

You're right OoooRah, I remembered incorrectly. The tiebreaker games are considered part of the Reg. season stat wise. So I would assume the Brewers would actually have to make the playoffs for the Tribe to be able to pick.

I love the guy, but you're right,...trade bait. As long as Shoppach and Victor can stay healthy and play C/1B, there is apparently no room for Ryan on the field,....HOWEVER there is always the DH where you have the "recovering" Hafner. Now, contracts notwithstanding, guys can always want to renegotiate and really dork things up. He's worth hanging on to with 90 ribbies, but CAN we keep him, and does he WANT to stay ?? He's a California boy and probably has his sights set on going home.
Can he play third in case Marte tanks it,...?? (Like my boy Blake COULD ).

Marte has already tanked it at 3rd ... but Garko is a statue in the field, so not an option to play him there. He was a catcher in the minors, but apparently with some defensive liabilities. You might be right about keeping him as DH insurance, because I'm really concerned that something as yet unreported is wrong with Hafner. From the few times I've seen Hafner hit since his rehab, its pretty clear he ain't right.

In other news ... Indians win their 81st game, assuring themselves a .500 season, and ... dealing a huge blow to the Chisox Central Division hopes ... such a shame.

Last day of the regular season ... always a melancholy day for me when the Indians aren't in the playoffs, or in other words, usually. But I'll be watching the Browns on the tube - muted - with the radio on the Tribe's season-ender, hoping for a.) an Indians win that ends the White Sox season, b.) a Brewers (and CC) win, clinching the playoffs, and c.) a Mets loss, insuring the city of New York no post-season baseball. The Brewers are pitching CC vs Joe Nobody for the Cubs, and the Mets are sending out Odalis Perez vs Joe Nobody for the Marlins. Meanwhile, the Indians are pitching Joe Nobody against Mark Buerhle, the SOB that likes to throw at our LH batters heads. Go Tribe, Go Brew-crew, Go Marlins.

CC did his part. CG 4 hitter. Mets are down 4-2 in the ninth. Looks like the Tribe might get to pick after all.
The Tribe didn't do theirs. Twins are up 2-0 in the bottom of 7. Looks like it's gonna come down to the DET-CHI makeup game tomorrow.

Even if this remark favors the Sox, I think it's a crying ass shame that the season series doesn't decide who gets the title, or some other acceptable tiebreaker.
Boil down a whole season to one baseball game,...sheesh,...then again, at least it's head-to-head.
At a minimum, have the damn game at the field of the season series winner; not decided by a coin toss. That's just BS.

I love the 1 game playoff, what better way to decide it, they finished in a tie, play it out on the field.
I do agree the coin toss determining where the game is played is weak.

They finished in an "overall record" tie, but one of them won the 19 game season series,.... I believe it was 10-9,...but you'll have to look it up. And IF it was the Twins, WTF do they have to go to Chicago on a coin toss,..??

Im ok with that, Twins could sweep the season and Id be ok with it, if the overall record is the tie Id much rather see them battle it out on the field in a win or go home game.
