Electric Razors are good when you shave everyday, you must keep them cleaned or you'll end up with a not so close shave. Plus thier quick and not as messy as disposable razors

Disposables razors are best after a few days of ruffage, or in my case you want a really really close shave, I cant get one with a elect. razor.

I use them both

I have all three

I have my Gillette Fusion for daily shaving, or close shaves
I also have a Norelco Rotary electric shaver, it does decent job, but doesn't give a clean, close shave.
And I have a Braun Microscreen which is fine for the face, but does a very poor job on my neck.

I just prefer to use my Gillette Fusion, even in a hurry I can shave with just water with it, no shaving foam, it just seems to dull the blade faster. I get about a month out of each blade.

I received an electric razor for Christmas last year and I hated it. I use the Fusion too and never looked back.

I use a Norelco...couldn't tell you the model.

Get one with a battery so you don't have to use the thing only while it is plugged in.

When you first switch to a electric, it will take a week or so to get the beard conditioned to it, so you might feel like you aren't getting as close a shave for a while.

After years of a blade, I switched to electrics maybe 10 years ago. It is much easier on the face in the long haul. The trimmer is handy to touch up around the beard, stash, burns, and even for a trim around the ears if you can't get to the barber for a while...plus, you can use it while walking around the house to get the coffee ready, let out the dogs, whatever

About once a year I buy new heads to keep it cutting smooth.

I have found I can go a couple of days without shaving and not feel like I am ripping hairs out....if I go longer, I keep a cheap throw away blade.

I have a course beard and don't use those pre-shave solutions...a waste of money IMO. The electric alone does just fine.

I've tried and tried to find an electric razor that was any good at all and failed.

Every one of them has been a disappointment. I've purchased $200 razors, $10 razors, and everything in between. I've tried the Lectric Shave type conditioners, I've stuck with them for months trying to attain the elusive "conditioning to an electric" and in the end it just amounts to a bad shave.

It always ended up looking like I shaved 12 hours ago... Now if you're in a job where that's OK, fine. For me though I always felt it looked sloppy.

I bought my husband the Braun 360. (they ran about $250 when I got it). It's self cleaning, that's all I really know about. He says he loves it, but he still uses regular razors too, Mach 3 and Fusion. Maybe regular razors are faster or closer, never asked. All I can tell you is when I was shopping, there weren't any cheap ones!

Is that what it's for? Well, that would explain the heavy blood-loss I sustain every time I do it.

I used an electric because that's what my step father used. As was said, works best if you use it everyday.

I lost my luggage on my honeymoon so I had to use a disposable razor, and I've been using them ever since. It's been 16 years and I do not miss the electric razor at all.

Funny you should say that. I have a Braun Microscreen too, and I have the exact same problem. Does a great job on my face, but takes forever on the neck. If I'm in a hurry, I nab one of my wife's Venus razors, and use it with just plain water.

I should probably try a Fusion or something. I used to hate blades because I would always hack up my face. Maybe a combination of the two would work best.

I've never found an electric I like and I've had the expensive blade razors with the $16 for a pack of 4 replacement cartridges... and I can't tell enough of a difference between those and the disposables to make it worth my while... so I stick with my disposables...

I have to get up fairly early so I use the electric to get as much sleep as possible. I can shave while getting things ready, feeding the cat, and taking the dog out. Then on Saturday, I bust out the normal shaver. It seems to be a good cycle.

I use one of the Braun razors with the cleaning/charging unit and it works very well for me. My beard is pretty light, so the electric razor gives me a shave that is very close to a blade (without the nicks and slices).

I have the 4 blade fusion, I used to use the Mach 3, and have one in the drawer still. I just found that 3-4 blades leaves me with less nicks which was a problem when shaving my neck, always nicked me up. 3-4 blades seem to glide smoother and give me closer shave with less pressure.

How about a laser razor. It burns the hair right out, and leaves you shave free for a couple weeks.

I have been using electric for 20 years. My baby face gets to cut up with blades, and they are to expensive. On the bright side I only shave every other day. Heck it takes me three days just to get half of a five o clock shadow

I use electrics. My last two have been Remingtons, and before that I had some Norelcos. I preferred the Norelcos, but the Remingtons were Christmas gifts so I wasn't going to complain.

They work fine for me, but my facial hair doesn't grow in very quickly or thick. I generally shave daily, but if I go a couple days without then I will just use the trimmer to cut everything down to manageable size before shaving. I don't think I'd want to use an electric razor to hack through any serious amount of facial hair though...I think a nice blade would be much better for that.

It really depends on your face: skin sensitivity, beard thickness, growth direction and consistency, and razor type. I have a Braun, but use my Gillette Fusion for day-to-day shaving. I get a closer shave with blades. In my case, I have a thin beard, but the hairs are a little thicker and darker than some others.

That said, the electric razor is a good option for when I don't want to spend the time at the bathroom sink and on weekends.

Some tips I have found to be helpful - based on my experience with the electric:
1. Shave before showering. I find the electric performs better when the beard is not soft (such as after showering).
2. Electric Shave pre-conditioner works for me. I get a more consistent shave
3. The beard on the neck is tricky since the hair grows in random directions and can often lie flat. (I think the rotary razors are better for these conditions) Often I will shave the neck and find that I must go over a section several times and in several directions just to cut a single hair.

Still, even when I was sure to cut the entire beard, I would get a 5 o'clock shadow around midday (and I do not have a thick beard - far from it). It got so bad that co-workers wondered if I even shaved...

After reading all the post on this subject i went a bought a Braun.

Got it at Linens and Things which is going out of business at a reduce price, plus a guy in front of me gave me his twenty dollar gift certificate. Sweet!

Like some of you i seem to not be able to use a disposable razor with out cutting myself up now a days. Hopefully this will help with that issue.

Thanks all for your info.

Good point Spider about shaving dry.

I shave before showering, or well after.

One other thing...super expensive isn't better.

I am not saying a $28 electric is going to do well.....but razors in the $80 range work just fine and just as well as the ones costing 3X more..those thin foils tend to bend, and who the heck really cares what it looks like?

Just get a decent razor....not the cheapo, but you don't need to spend $200 on one either. That $75 razor that looks like what your Dad used works just as well as the sleek, ultra modern design.

Sorry about your ass. I shave with only water almost daily. Once in a while I use my electric razor, but if I do, I have to shave twice a day or I have the double 5 o clock shadow.

Butt, I hear there's a sale on sandpaper this weekend at your local home improvement center.

My problem was that with most razors, not using foam meant for sure my neck would be full of little blood tricklets.

I use a 25 dollar Norelco I bought 25 years ago at Fisher Big Wheel and it's fine for daily use. However if I'm spiffin up for something special I use a blade. Seems to me disposable blade shaving has become pricey for everyday.
I gotta disagree with BP on the cordless electrics. If you need cordless thats fine but in my experience the cordless seem to run at a slower RMP and you don't get as good a shave. That maybe untrue with the more expensive cordless I don't know. I've been satified with my cheap Noreleco so I haven't felt the need to try much of anything else.
Here my sage advise, if you're a saleman or something stick with the blade if not try a cheap corded electric Norelco, if your satisfied you'll save money on disposables and if not you didn't lose much. Use it on the weekends when nobodys looking.

I use both, probably the electric more. The electric doesn't give you as close of shave, but it's nice if you're on the run. Blades are silly expensive anymore, so spend a nice chunk on an electric and you won't regret it!
