I'm just hoping the Bengals now trade him to a team with another #85 on roster who won't give him the jersey.

Johnson, Bengals getting more zany?

Johnson

If the Cincinnati Bengals' offseason couldn't get any more strange, Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson may have added a new chapter just before the regular season.

According to Miami radio station 790 The Ticket, which is in Johnson's hometown, the receiver has legally changed his last name to "Ocho Cinco." Johnson's -- sorry -- Ocho Cinco's reported name change has been rumored in NFL circles for weeks, and according to the station today, it's official.

Johnson forewarned the public that a major surprise was coming during a recent interview with Chris McKendry on ESPN's SportsCenter.

"A lot of people look at Chad Johnson and say he's crazy and he does a lot of stuff, but I don't think people really understand how smart I really am," Johnson said. "So come Sept. 7, I believe when we play the Baltimore Ravens, I think that's the game, there's a surprise for everybody -- for everybody. When I say something, it is what it is, just enjoy it. Because it's going to last 16 weeks, plus some more."

Could this be it? If the report is correct he should be able to wear his nickname on the back of his jersey without penalty, which he's wanted to do for quite some time.

The media also would have to refer to him as Chad Ocho Cinco from this point on.

Sounds a little strange, but nothing is too outlandish for No. 85 or the Bengals these days.

Stay tuned.

The dude is such a major embarassment anymore.

The Bengals are like Schleprock, that dark cloud just follows them no matter what they do.

I think this guy seriously has some mental problems. I mean, when you're this egomaniacal, you really have to wonder.

is his name really johnson anymore, im really confused, really i thought this article was really all about him changing it to something that doesn't even really mean "85".

I think that (the interview) was before it was "announced" or leaked. He hasn't come out to deny or acknowledge it yet.

That what i find the most hilarious. Ocho Cinco means "Eight Five." As opposed to Ochenta-y-cinco, which is "Eighty-five." Since he as it as two words, they should make him just have Cinco on the back of his jersey. That would also match his IQ.

Just clicking...

I feel bad for Bengals fans that they have to put up with this kind of stuff, but this guy makes me laugh. If he wasn't a Bengal, he'd be one of my favorite players.

While some folks hate Chad, I have to say that I like the fact that he is out there doing this stuff. He is like a little kid out there, like he never grew.

I think a lot of folks who post on this board can identify with that.

He is funny... in a "look at what that narcisistic moron did this time" sort of way.

On a side note.. I wasn't too upset at the time, but as time goes on, the more and more ticked off I become that he was welcomed when he jumped into the DawgPound... they show that clip EVERY TIME they are talking about him on SportsCenter... I'm tired of seeing it.

I had interview a guy once,, his name was Basil Papanicetoseeyou... T hat's not the correct spelling, it's just the way it's pronounced..

Papa Nice to see you... No fooling, that was his name..

Then there was a guy named: Xonafon Popanicalo (not spelled correctly either)

but pronounced:

X on a fon Pop a nic a lo

If I had either of those names,, I'd change it to Chad Johnson

He's getting exactly what he wants. People talking about him, always saying his name and always in the news. His idea is working well.

I have no problem with chad, he's just having fun. He would be fun to hang out with for a night. But I still want to whoop the bungles arse every time we play though. That's when it's not fun and games with chad for me.

This guy is an a**. The Bengals are embarrasement, they re-sign Henry and they did not draw a line with this bozo...

I never understood the media love affair with Chad Johnson as it is completely obvious he is a me first football player.. He is NOT any where close to a team player..

He's fun. That's all. Aren't people more inclined to want to hang out with a fun person at a club other than a bummer. He always has something to say or something brewing. It's curiosity to see what he will do next. Yeah, it might be a disturbance to the team, but it's not my Browns, so he can do that all he wants and mess up that locker room.

Entertain me and keep messing up that team even more. It's a win win.

Hey maybe to you, but not this guy. Moving on...

I'm amazed we don't have any former athletes here who never called a teammate by their jersey number. I was 17 in baseball, and when people called me "one-seven" it didn't confuse me. Yeah Ocho-Cinco is kinda stupid, but not exactly so far out there.

Ocho wins no matter what...jersey sales will be up, the attention will be up, and he'll be easily the most talked about thing in the NFL. I'm going to bet he'll turn this into some marketing and promotional deals too. He's exactly right, he's not as dumb as we all think him to be. In a league filled with non-stories, someone who's a bit of a showman is getting everyone's attention, positive or negative. Yeah he's still pretty talented though, it's not like he's a borderline scrub.

I'm sure everyone doesn't agree with me, but oh well. It's not like I root against the Browns when he's in town, but I find him entertaining.

I see. I don't think he's fun at all...I think he's a dumbass. My friends are fun without needing all the attention and glam that this dolt seems to need. Are you saying that if he were a Brown his BS would bother you?

Thats nothing. I called a woman for work who's name was "Vagina Cox". I asked for Virginia thinking it was a typo and she said her name wasn't Virginia but Vagina. I was like "no way" and she told me her mother named her that "because thats where I come from"

You know why the media loves him? It's b/c he puts on a show for them all day everyday. As long as it's a distraction for another team not named "Browns" I could care less what he does. I can't stand the guy but do admit he makes me laugh sometimes at how stupid he is. this is not one of those times.

I think I am going to change my name to three hundred thirty seven. Or, drei, drei, sieben.

Some of y'all need to take a deep breath and relax.

He changed his name. To 8-5. He didn't change it to Browns Suck. Or Butt Wipe. It's harmless.

And funny.

Would it be correct then that his initials would be COC.

I think overall it is nothing new; it is more of the 'look at me' attitude he has; and shows (to me, imo) a total lack of team first mentality that a football player should have.

I couldn't care less what this idiot does, quite frankly. Butt wipe -- now that would have been FUNNY as hell and fitting.

It's so NOT funny it's actually sad. I worry about some of you.

Look, I live in Bengal territory. I have to hear more of it than most and I'm just sick and tired of his one man show. It's very old and it's not, nor ever has been, funny. What's truly funny is that even Bengals fans think it's getting old. But you guys don't. Wonders never cease.

I'm out of it...have fun.

If I were a Bengal fan, it would tick me off. Since I'm not, a Bengals player acting up and stirring the pot doesn't bother me. I don't know how some of you find it inconceivable that many people think it's funny for a man to change his legal last name to "Ocho Cinco". It's just absurd and comical.

Speaking as a Bengals fan, he is my least favorite player... doesn't matter what team he's on. There is only one Bengal I've litterally despised, he's very close to becoming the second. I will admit at first I found his little antics cute. It just got real old after the first month or so. I'm all about showing personality, blah blah blah... but when it starts effecting your game it's time to turn it down a few notches. Idk about anyone else, but after he started getting a lot of national attention for his crap, his playing started to slip. Just one reason I'm dissapointed in Coach Lewis, but that's another story.

Anyhoo, I hope this is just a rumor because it is ridiculous, childish, and just plain embarrassing. Frankly, I don't think we need him anymore. How do you say "peace out" in Spanish?
