Ryan Boschetti, DT and Marcus Mason, RB
I watched the last three Redskins games (because of Hamilton) and these two stood out to me. Mason was the Redskins leading rusher this preseason and Boschetti is our typical overachiever.
I don't know if Boschetti would be an upgrade over anybody, but I would love to pick him up if we get any injuries on the D line.
I personally prefer our backs over Mason, but the kid does have game. He was just the odd man out of a pretty good backfield.

The Steelers released 18 other players from their roster today, including: LB Patrick Bailey, WR/KR Eddie Drummond, P Paul Ernster, FB Billy Latsko, OG Doug Legursky, OG Matt Lentz, CB Roy Lewis, S Grant Mason, DE Ryan McBean, OT Jeremy Parquet, DT Scott Paxson, DE Jordan Reffett, WR Willie Reid, WR Micah Rucker, TE Dezmond Sherrod, TE Lee Vickers, RB Justin Vincent and CB Travis Williams.
Anyone know if any of these guys could help? I know Savage would love to pickup guys from within the division if they can help.
http://blogs.nfl.com/category/news/
I was high on Ryan McBean when he was in college, but I know he barely played with the Steelers. I only recognize a few other names on that list.
Baltimore cut Gary Stills - if we're ever looking for a ST guy, he could certainly be an option.

Ryan McBean was somebody I thought we should have drafted... He would have a hard time beating someone out on this team though.. He will probably go to their PS.

One more thing...Many of you know about my man crush on Justin Hamilton. He made the Redskins team, even though they drafted 2 safeties this year. He was signed in August, cut when Horton sined and then brought back before the second preseason game. I know the Redskins web site is showing a lot of love for Justin. I really wish he wouldn't have gotten hurt.

One guy that I'd love to get in here from Washington is Marcus Mason.
He lead the NFL in rushing this preseason (which doesn't mean a whole lot). But he ran well, he's local, and he's young. He is a fellow YSU alum. I'd take him over Travis Thomas on our PS.

Like I said before, I watched the last three Redskins preseason games. Mason played great. I forgot all about him being from YSU. Hopefully we will grab him for the PS.

Here's another two to look at from Houston:
C Greg Eslinger
liked him in college, Minnesota. didn't he win some award for OL? Surprised to see him here. Goodbye Sowells hello Greg
CB Jamar Fletcher
guy was a baller at Wisconsin and was a good player for Miami. lost track of him though recently. I have to think he'd be better than Lawson.

Trae Williams, 5th round pick of the Jags Overview With opposing offenses electing to throw away from Mike Jenkins, Williams has developed into a potential first-day selection himself. An athletic corner blessed with both pure speed and big-play ability, Williams took advantage of quarterbacks challenging him to record a team-record seven interceptions in 2006, earning First Team Big-East accolades. A veteran of 32 starts entering his senior season, Williams has the experience scouts like, as well as the athleticism to improve. He's often used in man coverage at USF, but shows the instincts and break on the ball to be effective in zone as well. Scouts are still looking for more consistency from Williams, but he could take advantage of senior all-star games to distance himself from his more recognized teammate. A strong showing during the all-star banquet could ultimately result in a top 50 selection for Williams. High School Class 5A all-state second team...First team all-county in Tampa Tribune...Ranked 15th in Tampa Bay by St. Petersburg Times...Also named first team all-Suncoast and all-county by St. Petersburg Times...Scored a school-record 22 touchdowns in 2002, including six on punt returns...Rushed for 1,355 yards with 10-plus yards per carry...Against traditional Polk County and state power Lakeland High, he carried 12 times for 178 yards and all four of his team's touchdowns in a Durant win...MVP in Hillsborough County All-Star Game...As a junior, he rushed for 550 yards and six TDs...Also had 55 tackles that year. Copyright NFLDraftScout.com, distributed by The Sports Xchange. Analysis Analysis Positives: Classic build for the position. ... Rare straight-line speed. ... Smooth hip-turn and change of direction. ... Smooth acceleration and has a second gear when the ball is in flight. ... Good hands for the interception. ... Reads the action well. ... Reads the quarterback well and can break on the ball. ... Reliable open-field tackler. ... Durable. Negatives: Operates behind a highly aggressive pass rush and has taken advantage of some pressured throws to pad his interception totals. ... Not an overly elusive runner with the ball in his hands. ... Lacks vision and has struggled to generate yards after the interception. ... Drag-down tackler with limited explosiveness in his hitting. ... Only marginal ability to track the ball over his shoulder. ... Mistimes his leaps and too often loses out in battles for the ball. ... Struggles some against bigger, physical receivers. Copyright NFLDraftScout.com, distributed by The Sports Xchange. http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/trae...le-tab-analysisHe didn't do a lot in the preseason.

Denver released QB Darrell Hackney. What I saw of him was up and down but he might be a developmental guy. Kind of like him? Kind of.
Dorsey.....not so much. Time to become a coach.

I only threw up Fox because he was from OSU. James was beat ouy by Youboty for the final position.
Chris Brown (Buffalo's beat writer) said James would be the odd man out because the Bills could only keep 5 CBs. He is a 7 year vet with 45 starts under his belt.

Yeah, Marcus was a Penguin.
I was at the HOF game, plus saw pieces of 2 other 'Skins games. He looked good. Sucks that he got cut. Rock has the edge because of his return abilities, so that probably pushed him out.
I'd love to see what he could do here. Hopefully we can get him off waivers, if Savage is interested.
Another name I saw out there was Trae Williams off the Jags. Looks like you beat me to it. Just someone I eyeballed during the draft.

Another CB with experience from the Pats roster... Fernando Bryant, 9 year starter with Jax and Detroit... Also, on NFL Network there is a show at 8 pm. One last thing...Michigan lost to Utah.

I would take a look at O'Neal. He'll get beat occasionally, but always seems to make the big play. He's a Leigh Bodden replica.

I don't have much 1st hand knowledge of Fernando Bryant but he always seemed like a solid player to me. I would give him some consideration. From Rotoworld "He's not a huge name, but Bryant lined up as a starter throughout the off-season, so this is quite a surprise."

Get Rideau and put Hubbard on the practice squad. Rideau is ready now. I know he played against our 2s and 3s, but so did our receivers against theirs and he out performed them by a mile.

zactly!
I remember last preseason, for us, he was running downfield from the slot...not the primary receiver, he turned his head and the ball was wizzing by him, he stuck out his hands and caught the BACK OF THE BALL as it was going by. I just let out a "WOW!" He ended up getting a leg or ankle ding and was released in the final cuts. I want him back. He catches the ball....and almost never drops one.

I will say this, if we are looking for a solid veteran to fill this receiver spot, there seem to be a few that were cut. Antonio Bryant (head case) and Ashley Lelie stick out to me.

I don't think Savage will run out and sign Rideau just because he caught 3 passes and scored once against our twos. He did look impressive and I like the guy, hoped he would stick when he was here, but I doubt he's really what Phil is looking at right now. Not with him cutting Wilson & Sanders and putting Hubbard on the 53 to keep him. BTW, Rideau only caught 4 passes total in the preseason and they came in the last 2 games, but they totaled 114 yards. That's kind of impressive in a very limited way.

Without seeing the other games he played in, it is hard for us to judge. All I know is the kid actually cathes the ball when it hits his hands. That's the thing receivers are supposed to do. The speed, size, and yards after catch ability are less important to me, as none of them matter if you can't catch.

Have to correct myself, he had two other catches in the preseason besides the three he had against us. 1 catch for 51 yards against San Fran for a TD, and one catch for 13 yards against KC for a TD. The one against KC came at the very end of 3rd quarter and the one against SF came at the end of the game. 5 catches, 127 yards, 25.4 ypc and 3 TDs.

I get your point. But think of this, he had 3 tds in 5 catches in the 'place where receivers go to die' in Chicago. Also, did we throw more than 3 td passes combined all preseason?

I see your point too, he looked pretty impressive to me in the Chicago game, but I honestly think Savage is too paranoid about losing Hubbard if he puts him on the PS. I don't know why, exactly. I probably would have cut him about 30 seconds after he dropped that TD pass in the end zone that practically smacked him in the face.

Ok, so some of the interesting names to pick up off waivers, sign to our practice squad or sign as a free agent so far are: Marcus Mason, RB Trae Williams, CB Deltha O'Neil, CB Fernando Bryant, CB Anyone else out there? Who hasn't already had a stint in Cleveland?

That's what I was thinking. When the ball goes right through the receiver's hands in the endzone with the game on the line, and you simply miss it? I don't get what Savage sees in the guy. I could care less about the spectacular diving catches, if you can't catch the simple balls. Are there any Brian Brennans out there? That's the number 3 we need. We have the spectacular in Edwards, the speedy after the catch guy in Stallworth, now we need the reliable possession guy to take Joe's place for the first part of the season.

What's your take on this guy? I know many Bengals fans (both of them) liked him a lot, but I do believe he had some injury problems. I don't know if he got over those.
But, would he be someone we possibly bring in as a veteran DB?
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism
