But, would he be someone we possibly bring in as a veteran DB?
Good talent, has character issues more so than injury issues. A falling out with that coaching staff/organization speaks volumes.

Toniu Fonoti - OG was cut by the Panthers. He could be a good insurance policy behind McKinney. At least until Tucker comes back. I would rather see Fonoti in there than Sowells for sure and probably Bennett. Bennett may have looked good so far but with his lack of experience we are in trouble if he needs to play against Pittsburgh. The steelers blitz scheme is way too complicated for a rookie to handle in his 1st game.

And I have a very distinct feeling that any blitzing we're going to see is going to be coming right up the middle/right due to that.
Hopefully Tucker will be back soon, and I do think McKinney is a solid backup. I have a feeling we'll also adjust our gameplan accordingly to keep a back in there to help, if needed.
But, I won't be surprised to see us try someone else out.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

That can't be right. You don't have a falling out in Cincinatti. They resigned Chris Henry for Pete's sake. You can impregnate Lewis' 11 year old daughter and still make the squad if you have enough football talent.
I don't know everything about the guy, but I know he has been hurt. Looking at his history, he's missed some games. He's definitely an upgrade over a guy like Lawson and probably Cousin.
I remember him having 10 INTs a few years back with the Bengals, and I know he had another season with like 6 or 7. You don't get 10 INTs by being a poor corner and getting lucky. I don't think there's anything wrong with adding some depth. This is a VERY young secondary.

Detroit and the Giants, both had success getting to the QB up the middle, against the Browns first string offense. Wright is a good player to have in the backfield to help out, but id rather see him running routes to take a LB away from playing zone coverage or covering a TE.
If Tucker isnt on the PUP list, then I would think that he would be back in less then 4 weeks. If he is expected to be out 5 or 6, then I would have thought Savage would put him on the PUP list and keep another player on the roster. Maybe to get some more work in for the CBs that got cut or possibley kepth Orr around. Orr was supposed to replace Thompson on specail teams and his ability to play more then one LB position.

Dude, it was a joke. You know, like, hahahaha. As in you can screw up til no end in Cincy and still stick on the team if they think you can help them win. I wasn't questioning you at all...... just making light of Cincy's complete and utter disaster of an organization. My apology if you thought I was calling you out. Guess I should have added some of these:

It's about money. He was scheduled to make something like 3 mil. Bengals wanted him to take a pay cut, he didn't. Same goes for the other two Bengals if I'm not mistaken.

Fernando Bryant!! The first thing that came into my mind when I read that name was the incredible 2002 season when we beat Jacksonville on the last second hail marry win. It was Bryant who gave up that miracle touchdown.

What's the story on OLB Rosevelt Colvin? He was effective as a pass rusher at New England, and then apparently flopped in Houston. He's only 30 ... wouldn't he be worth a look?

Based on a article I read this morning, tucker was probably headed to PUP had Hadnot not(say that quickly three times...was hard to type once) hurt him self, so Tucker doesn't sound that close to me.
I think you can bet we will check out the O-linemen waived and bring one in by Monday or Tuesday.

I don't see anywhere in his post where he says he's worthless. He just associates him with that play.

I have a feeling that one the cuts the Bengals made yesterday could come back to haunt them this year. Willie Anderson was such a postive influence with his professinalism and leadership. Who is gonna step up when the Bengals looked headed for a meltdown this season, which is very possible. Willie Anderson was one of the few leaders on the Bengals along with John Thorton. I like Carson Palmer, but for all his talents,he's not a bonafide leader. I wouldn't be surprised if Deltha O'Neal ended up a Brown. He's lost a step but he still can make plays. He was cut because he isn't the threat he used to be at punt returns and the Bengals felt he didn't warrant 3 mil a year. If I was Phil Savage,I'd take a glance at Rudi Johnson. He's still good for 8-10 carries a game. He's effective in inclimate conditions...

Me and my friend that is a Bengals fan were just talking about this. He said of the 3 Bengals that got cut (Delta O'Neil, Rudi Johnson, and Willie Anderson) that he wished the Bengals re-signed Delta O'Neil. I told him that it had to be money as to why they got cut. He kind of agreed saying that the team needs money to pay Chad and Housh. Their owner is all about profit. He probably re-signed Henry because he agreed to play for league minimum.
Thats why Chad wants out, because he knows that the Bengals is a classless organization, all about profit, and will never have a team built to win the Super Bowl.
Didnt O"Neil also return punts? If he could help out at Nickle and in the return game, then he would be a huge upgrade over Lawson. Especailly if Pools concussion problem gets too seriose and Adams (whom Ive read was the current frontrunner to play Nickle) has to start.

That's how I interpreted his post. I think it was the double exclaimation marks after he types Fernando's name followed by the negative comment. Maybe I read too much into it. I apologize to 24/7 if I put words in his mouth. Though I still think he meant it that way.

Here's a list from scout.com of the best available left out there.. Cornerback Fernando Bryant - He could still start for a team or at least handle a nickel role. However, Bryant has had his share of injuries over the years. Ty Law - He's likely looking at a nickel job if he signs with a team this season. Deltha O'Neal - Decent fit for a nickel role. Ricky Manning, Jr. - The Chicago Bears preferred their younger cornerbacks over him. Jason Webster - The New England Patriots recently released the journeyman nickel back. Andre Dyson - If healthy, Dyson could land a job as a nickel back. Kenny Wright - Legal woes cost him a job with the Cleveland Browns. Kelly Herndon - He could come in and handle a nickel role for a team. Jamar Fletcher Ricardo Colclough Duane Starks - He was recently released by the Oakland Raiders. The oft-injured defensive back still could find a job in a nickel or dime role this season. Fred Thomas - Older cornerback who could play in a dime role. Roc Alexander - Versatile defender who fits best in a dime defense. Dexter Wynn (KR/PR) Chidi Iwuoma - He's primarily a special teams player but a good one in that role. http://cle.scout.com/a.z?s=149&p=2&c=785183

There´s a new interesting CB out there:
Eugene Wilson-DB- Buccaneers Aug. 31 - 5:54 pm et Bucs released DB Eugene Wilson, according to NFL Network. The one-time Patriot didn't make an impact in exhibition games and has an uncertain future. Aqib Talib will be Tampa's nickel corner in Week 1.

I like Eugene Wilson. He seems to get hurt a lot though, but I though he did a good job playing FS for the Pats, and I think he could contribute.

Rams add cornerback Manning Jr., safety Condren The Rams didn’t stop their roster-shaping following Saturday’s final cuts. The team has agreed to terms with cornerback Ricky Manning Jr., and has claimed safety Brannon Condren off waivers from Indianapolis. To make room for Condren on the 53-man roster, the club released tight end Richard Owens. They don’t have to make a roster move on Manning until he signs his Rams contract, and that isn’t expected to happen until Monday. Manning Jr., 27, is a veteran of five NFL seasons. He entered the league as a third-round draft pick by Carolina out of UCLA in 2003. Known for his ballhawking skills, Manning has 14 interceptions in 79 regular-season games, including 37 starts. He made a name for himself in the playoffs as a rookie, recording an interception in Carolina’s double-overtime victory over the Rams in the divisional round, and then recording three interceptions against Philadelphia in the NFC championship game. Demoted behind distant cousin Danieal Manning as the Bears’ nickel back, Manning Jr. asked to be traded or released. He got his wish Tuesday, and agreed to terms with St. Louis on Sunday. Contract terms weren’t immediately available. Condren was a fourth-round draft pick of the Colts in 2007 out of Troy. He appeared in eight games as a rookie last season, recording four tackles from scrimmage, one pass breakup, and four special teams stops. Of the 13 players released by the Rams on Saturday -- and quarterback Bruce Gradkowski was released and not traded -- tackle Mark LeVoir was claimed on waivers (by New England).
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...

Dallas cut linebacker Darrell Robertson.
Really liked this guy when I saw Georgia Tech play. He seemed really really athletic and would be a great addition to our 3-4. I was surprised that he went undrafted and now cut.
Would also get a read on Dallas as well.

New England seemed to pickup every CB/S that became available during the pre-season...they almost seemed desperate...or maybe really smart.
Who knows if their cuts are trash or treasure?
I think I would feel better with a vet - or two - in the mix for a backup. My 'Captain Obvious' comment of the weekend.

Browns claim Young, add practice squad 09.01.2008 TheBrowns have been awarded OL Scott Young via waivers from Philadelphia and have waived OL Nathan Bennett, the club announced today. The Browns also signed the following seven players to the practice squad: LB Titus Brown, RB Omar Cuff, OL Christian Gaddis, S Travis Key, WR Lance Leggett, DL Melila Purcell and WR Steve Sanders. Young, 6-4 and 312 lbs., spent the last three years with the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup guard and appeared in 13 career games. He was originally a fifth round draft choice of the Eagles in 2005 out of Brigham Young. Young played in a career-high 12 games and two postseason contests with the Eagles in 2006. Four of the club's seven practice squad players signed today were with the Browns during training camp, including Leggett, Key, Purcell and Sanders. Brown, 6-3 and 245 lbs., was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Mississippi State who spent training camp with the Miami Dolphins. Brown was a four-year letterman at Mississippi State with 170 career tackles and 18.5 sacks. Cuff, 5-10 and 195 lbs., was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Delaware who spent training camp with Tennessee. Cuff ran for 4,364 yards and 65 touchdowns during his collegiate career at Delaware. Gaddis, 6-4 and 300 lbs., spent last season with the Buffalo Bills and appeared in one contest. Gaddis was originally an undrafted rookie free agent with Buffalo in 2007 out of Villanova. He spent ten weeks on the Bills practice squad before being signed to the active roster on Nov. 14, 2007. link

I remember Savage talking about Titus Brown during that draft special on STO. Actually, if I remember correctly, someone asked Savage about him in one of their questions. Wonder if he kept his eye on him.

So much for Bennett's "potential".
Seemed like Pittman was doing better than Purcell...I wonder how hurt he is.
I think Sanders should have made the 53 over Hubbard.
How do we know anything about the other guys?
Would have liked to see a CB on the PS.
Early prediction: Hubbard lands on IR when JJ returns...him or one of our 300 TEs.
