Now this is the guy we need to go after and release Cousins...

Broncos close to trading nickel cornerback Foxworth

By Bill Williamson
ESPN.com

The Denver Broncos are in the process of trading nickel cornerback Domonique Foxworth.

The cornerback was told by the team that he is close to being traded and to go home and wait to be traded. Foxworth said that he was told that there are several teams Denver is talking to and that he has no clue where he will play next week only that it won't be with the Broncos.

Foxworth said the Broncos are handling the situation with class.

"They didn't have to give me a warning," Foxworth said. "They are being classy about it. I'm not upset about it at all."

The Patriots, Redskins, Saints, Rams and Browns are among the teams that need a cornerback.

How much time is left on his deal???

I don't know a lot about Foxworth. Outside of the $$$ issue, would he be worth it?

I'd love to have Foxworth in here, very good nickleback and can spot start if needed. The only drawback I see is we'd have to give up a higher pick than the others seeing as we'll probably finish with a later draft selection than someone like the Rams

I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans are going after him as well.

Here again is the thing with the draft picks...

Foxworth is a solid nickel...He is also a decent enuff starter to play due to injury...

That kinda guy is not gonna be found most likely in rounds 3/4...

Give the pick and get a 3 year guy with experience...

The Rams signed Manning Jr as well, but Foxworth is arguably the best corner available on the block or in FA. (Sheppard is goin nowhere)

Fox did great cleanup work when I think Champ was out with an injury. I would love to see him in a Browns Uni.

anyone available this late is going to be no one's salvation. So why give up a future pick for somebody who's not even going to fix the problems in the secondary we have. Ride or die with who we've got. It's not like nice surprises haven't been in our immediate past.

He's in the last year of his original contract.....

Q: Since Domonique Foxworth is having a good preseason do you think there is a chance the Broncos could trade Dre' Bly and move Foxworth into Bly's starting cornerback spot? Also, since Foxworth will be a free agent in 2009 do you think the Broncos will resign him or do you think this will be his last season as a Bronco?

A: Most teams, the Broncos included, feel you can never really have enough cornerbacks on your roster so unless somebody blew them away with an offer - rare these days in the era of free agency for a team to make a trade though the Broncos have certainly been the most active team in recent years - they would likely keep their rotation.

Bly and Champ Bailey still headed to be the starters with Foxworth as the nickel corner - the fifth defensive back in passing situations. Foxworth would also likely be the first player to fill-in for either of them should Bailey or Bly deal with an injury.

The personnel guys around the league who like Foxworth's game like the speed, the smarts and the flexibility in his hips to make the change from backpedal to running with the receiver.

A lot of guys have speed, but can't get their hips around. These players are termed too stiff by scouts and most believe that is the difference between Foxworth and Karl Paymah, that Paymah has the size and speed people want, but can't get his hips around with enough flexibility to keep himself in the right place.

So Paymah either loses ground sometimes or has to grab the receiver.

The personnel people also point out that for the number of snaps Foxworth has played in the Broncos defense, he has one interception in the last two seasons combined.

As he heads to free agency - and he's made it clear he would like a significant offer from somebody and that the Broncos will have to show him how interested they are in order to keep him - that could tip the scales for him if he wants teams to view him as a potential starter.

But this season he will play plenty for the Broncos and given both Bly and Bailey missed time last season, he may even get a smattering of starts this year as well.

Before I read you post, I was going to comment on his quick hips and footwork. He would be a solid addition to the Browns.

In fact, if we could resign him or get him to agree to a deal before the trade, I'd go up to a 2nd round pick to be honest. If a deal can't be reached before, I'd go as high as a 3rd and try to extend him before the end of the season.

Just a note, we don't have a 3rd rounder next year, that was used to trade up for Martin Rucker.

Just keep in mind Winslow, Edwards, and Cribbs want new contracts and we'll have some FA's we'll have to resign too.

I am OK with this. Haven't seen a bunch of him, but doesn't stand out in my spotty memory as any major screwups. Devil is in the details as far as what is left and what he has to be worth as a player. Figure a larger "ouch" for draft later than Doc Savage may want to hand over. But this is an ongoing sore spot for us. Need to address secondary coverage. Probably a flyer for special teams too if needed. Can a bargain be had? I feel no lead is safe with this D yet given what I have seen

Hard to think about Joey Harrington coming in to help anyone's squad. Heck, Harrington's only been in the league one year longer than Boller, so Boller is just as "qualified" to be the veteran giving advice.

PFT is reporting that it's not a done deal, Harrington has another visit lined up tomorrow, so I guess we'll wait and see.

I´d do it for our 4th rounder in a heartbeat, even 4th and 6th...he´s worth it...I would feel much better with him in the nickel or spot start (if necessary) than Daniels or Cousin...

If we get him, he may end up starting later this season...I dont know why but I have this feeling about Wright...he didnt look good this preseason at all...with him it seems to be all about confidence/mental side of his position...if it´s not there he looks lost...jmho

Bronco Foxworth Traded To Atanta Falcons
DOVE VALLEY, Colo. (CBS4) ― CBS4 has learned that the Denver Broncos have traded Domonique Foxworth to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Broncos will receive a 7th round draft pick for the 4th year defensive back.

Foxworth is in the final year of his current contract and if he were to resign with Atlanta after this season, the Broncos would also receive a 6th round draft pick.

Foxworth was chosen in the 3rd round of the 2005 NFL draft by the Broncos.

In his 3 years with Denver, he started 18 games.

Last season, he was primarily used as a "nickel back" in passing situations.

Foxworth has also been very involved in the Denver community.

He played an instrumental role in the development of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center in northeast Denver.

DAMN...

I ain't buyin' it yet...

Not on ESPN...NFL.com...Atlanta or Denver League sites...

If that's all they want we need to slide in there...

Future $$$ might be discussed seeing this is his last contract year also...

seriously if all he gets is a 7th, i'd really start questioning savage's thought process..i don't see how anyone can look at our roster and say we're ok at CB..he'd be easily better than anything we have sans BM and maybe EW, not really sold on EW yet but he's still young

Savage gave up a 7th for a sure cut like Daniels and now is hesitant to give up the 6th for a much better player? I dont get it..I mean, I didnt get the Daniels trade, the timing...it´s not like we gained a lot of days compared to signing him after the cuts now

Well, sometimes you get the bar...sometimes the bar gets you.

Perhaps Savage didn't see Foxworth coming on the market. Was there an inclination that he'd be coming available?

*Edit* Also, from the article that Shep posted, this could factor into things (especially as someone pointed out with a few potential HUGE contracts coming up for us in the next year or two):

"As he heads to free agency - and he's made it clear he would like a significant offer from somebody and that the Broncos will have to show him how interested they are in order to keep him - that could tip the scales for him if he wants teams to view him as a potential starter."

i hope this latest report is wrong. A 7th rounder is a bargain if it saves the season. Foxworth is a solid player. But maybe the contract aspect of it put a stop to the talks.....

Law sign with anybody????? I think he is still available unless i completely missed it in the last couple of days.

Just heard on ESPN radio Foxworth to Falcons for a 7th round pick. Seems like we could have come up with at least a 6th to get a proven starter.

However, once again, the trade may be that the new team has to work out a longer deal with him. We may have been unwilling to go with that part of the deal.

I have no idea, just speculating.

Report: Ravens agree to deal with Bouman
Veteran QB reportedly will sign one-year contract, ESPN.com source says
By a baltimoresun.com reporter
12:40 PM EDT, September 2, 2008
Todd Bouman, one of three veteran quarterbacks to work out for the Ravens yesterday, accepted a one-year offer to sign with the team, a source told ESPN.com.

Bouman, Chris Simms and Joey Harrington worked out for for the Ravens yesterday in Owings Mills. This morning, Bouman was offered a one-year deal worth $830,000, according to ESPN.com.

The 36-year-old Bouman has played for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and St. Louis Rams. Bouman was an undrafted quarterback when he signed with Vikings in 1997. He was released by the Jaguars on Saturday.

The Ravens yesterday named rookie Joe Flacco the starting quarterback for the regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7

It was also noted/ reported that Troy Smith. who is fighting a tonsil infection, lost 30 pounds over the last two (2) weeks... I hope that he get's healthy, doesn't sound to good....

Unless the kid was asking for a ridiculous amount of money, there should be no excuse for not being able to get him for more than a 7th

Well, the article Shep posted above seems to suggest that Foxworth is looking for a good payday after this year.
