Well, Saturday was the big day. My first game as a college coach. I threw up about 5 times before the game! Unfortunately, it was a loss and it's the first time in recent memory I have a losing record . I was nothing but a bundle of nerves up until kickoff. Luckily, once we were underway, I calmed down. Lost in the last minutes of the game.

To be fair, though, my son was out with his shoulder. Once he gets back, we will be that much better on D and this kind of loss will be a thing of the past.

To update all, my son's shoulder will be ok. Just a strained ligament from the dislocation and should be on the field, and possibly starting, next week with a shoulder harness. Then we will begin our march to the playoffs.

Losses are part of the game, as you know. I hope you're son gets well soon so he can start busting some heads!

I would be interested too so I can keep up with the scores on the paper. It would be nice to have a local small school to pull for, except Kent State of course.

Well , I know the area you are living in so unless you are coaching at TOSU, and I am fairly familiar with their coach, you are coaching at a small college. HMMM whats in that area?? Only school I can think of is (a unnamed school that I know of ) off the top of my head.

Sorry about the loss coach... but are you sure the defense needs the help? They must have looked pretty stout.

I'm interested in knowing who you're coaching, so I can follow you and your boys' progress.

Congrats on getting that first game under your belt. Unfortunately you didn't get that first win, but it sounds like your confident in your team's abilities. Let us know how things are going.

I want to make sure I understand this here.. first, we have a "college coach" that is posting on an internet message board that would be available to "his" players and on this message board he is touting his own son and saying that a reason they lost was because his son was out of play.. and that once he returns, the team would be so much better, and that losing would be a thing of the past..

I'm trying to imagine if I was a player on this team and reading this.. I can't say that I would be too happy with the "coach"

I have to say that maybe the coach would be best served re-evaluating his priorities, quit fooling around on a message board and focus on his team.

I'm not trying to be harsh but those are the thoughts running thru my head. I hope that none of the kids on the team happens to bump along this board and this thread.

So because he happens to be a football coach, he isnt allowed to visit a a message board and discuss football, discuss his favorite team, interact with people he has for years? Because he coaches football? How is that different from anyone elses career?

Who are you to judge what he does with his free time?

Maybe you should quit foolin' around on a message board and focus on your burger flip so you can get people through the drive through faster.

It's an opinion board.. thats my opinion. He posted what he did.. and in my opinion he'd do well to focus on the team, the team thet is inclusive of his son. Which by the way, I hope has a speedy recovery so that they don't lose any more games.

No I'm not.. but by inference you are saying that a player on that team would be upset.. right?

Maybe the better thing to do is coach up the rest of the team?

Well, he probably didn't mean any harm by it, and the things you are talking about maybe never entered his mind. But ...

... I do think you have a point. I'm pretty sure the name 'CoachB' might be something the players call him so there's not a lot of veiled secrecy from someone who might know him.

CoachB, I'm interested in hearing your rebuttal on this one. Did Saint really just tick you off or make you think about what you are doing? I don't think you meant any harm by it ... after all, you were just sharing, but one of your players could read this. Will you do things differently now?

Rish.. I absolutely don't think he meant any harm with it and more than likely no harm done, I am a proud dad too.. (LOL it's hard not to talk about your kids like they are the second coming) It just struck me wrong and I voiced my opinion. Thats all, it's not going to ruin anyones day or break anything valuable or cost anyone any money.

Who's to say his son isn't a very important part of the defense? Like the MLB and/or defensive captain.

Who's to say he's not a freshman? ::shrugs:: IMO, everyone on a team is an important part of the team.

Me thinks this last interaction just about ruins any chance of finding out what team he coaches.

Good luck CoachB!!!!

I don't care what they call him.. if I play for a non-D1 team in Ohio with a first year coach with a son who is a freshman on the team who sat out week 1 with a shoulder injury..... I'm pretty sure this is the guy.

This actually sounds like it was written by old "b" himself. I'd like to know where he coaches as well. Is he the head coach or just an assistant?

As an aside, I told him earlier that being the guy that cuts the grass doesn't make him a coach. He didn't think it was funny.......

Some people really need to learn to understand the intent of a post. Did you not see the SMILEY FACE at the end of that sentence? Look above, it's right there. It was a JOKE. In fact, the players were joking around about it with us (the coaching staff) that very day at practice. So, I'm positive that if any of the players read the board, they would understand that the SMILEY FACE was a continuation of them joking around about it in practice.

Maybe instead of telling me how to coach, you should focus on your profession? "Not trying to be harsh", but what are your qualifications to tell someone how to spend their free time away from their job? I have had many posters PM asking how we did and how the team will be. So, I posted about it. No one has a problem with it beyond you, apparently. Since you're neither a player or a coach, deal with it. (NOTE: A SMILEY FACE AT THE END OF A SENTENCE IS THERE TO INDICATE HUMOR AND AN ATTEMPT AT SAYING SOMETHING IN A JOKING MANNER AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY).

So did I miss it? Where can we watch you coach? Now that you're in college your fear that one of us would "stalk" you seems to be out of the picture.

Hell, it's possible I already root for your team so let us know.

Well CoachB,
Congrats on the position and sorry about the loss. What people are missing is that you must be a head coach or O-coord because they are the only coaches that puke before a game!! If you need help in evaluating your backs, you know where to find me..LMAO!!!

I share your pain for week one, CoachB. I just went throught my first game as a Defensive Coordinator....We gave up 37 to a wishbone team. Did not sleep all weekend. Still mad about it to be honest with you. This week we face a spread team. I have been in the pressbox for the first 6 years of my career and being on the field is going to be a major adjustment!

So when you do it it's a joke.

But if I do it, it's some kind of way of covering up my real intent?

Maybe you should realise you're not "coaching the world".

I'm not your pupil or a player on your team. So the double standard doesn't work. Carry on.....................
