I know everybody is tired of the whole is lebron going leave discussion (myself included) but

Could the Cavs survive in Cleveland if Lebron left?

I have heard a few experts including Bruce Drennan state that if Lebron left, the Cavs franchise would move somewhere else. I know the Cavs have survived some rough spots especially in the early 2000s with low attendence and poor records .

but could they survive if Lebron left in a worst case scenario? I like Lebron but Im Cavs fan first

It all depends man. Sometimes, losing your best player can be a blessing. -Look at the 2001 Patriots, they started the season 0-3, then lost their hall of fame caliber franchise quarterback to injury and ended up winning the Superbowl. Look at the Rockets last year - they won something like 20 games in a row following a season ending injury to Yao Ming. I'm sure there are more examples. If Lebron leaves, it could be a blessing in disguise.
Personally, I hope he stays and I think he will.

Of course the franchise could and WOULD survive.

It existed for decades BEFORE we had a LeBron, even before we had a Mark Price. It existed when they were twice as bad as the expansion Bucanneers and the 70's Indians... combined. It'll exist long after LeBron leaves or hangs it up.

over time, no.

if lebron left, and assuming we didn't trade him (and folks, the cavs will never trade him, so the talk of that is just hilarious) the cavs would eventually leave.

i would say within 5 years...

unless they somehow struck gold again in the lottery

but again, the lebron leaving talk needs to wait 2 years...

saying he is, or isn't going to stay right now is lame.

i'm just glad this organization put themselves in the best possible position to keep lebron... you could not have asked for a better shot.

Sure.

As a matter of fact, I think it could get better.

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers signed center Lorenzen Wright on Friday to help offset the loss up front of forward Joe Smith.

Cleveland has been looking for some frontcourt size since Smith was traded as part of the three-team deal with Oklahoma City and Milwaukee that brought guard Mo Williams to Cleveland.

The 6-foot-11, 255-pound Wright played 12 games for Atlanta and five for Sacramento last season, averaging less than a point and 2.1 rebounds.

Wright has averaged 8.1 points 6.5 rebounds in 761 career games. He has also appeared in 15 postseason games. The 33-year-old will also give the Cavaliers a backup for centers Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Ben Wallace.

Remember, Seattle is wide open.

I was thinking about this a while back and I think him leaving, if he did, would eventually cripple this franchise enough that they would have to move. Within a few years, an NHL team would move into the Q. I always thought Cleveland was more hockey than basketball.

It would suck for sure. The Cavs are my 3rd favorite professional team. Then again, I don't have a 4th.
