I'm just looking around for some new music to listen to. I'm not looking for old songs, just new music. I think a lot of this year has been slow as far as music goes. Nothing was catching my ear for a while, but I've been hearing some good stuff lately starting to come around.
What are some great songs out there worth a download you've been listening to or catching on the radio?
Street Dogs new album just came out so Ive been digging that for a few weeks. Its Boston Street punk. Mike McColgan is the singer, he was the original Dropkick Murphys vocalist. Good stuff if your into punk stuff. Also been listening to Social Distortion and Clutch as of recently.
I listen to a bit of everything. Used to be real heavy into music in high school and college to the point of buying anywhere from 1 to 3 CDs a week.
I had my entire CD collection stolen a few years ago, and basically quit buying music. I'll just download songs here or there that I like. Never heard of Street Dogs, but I always enjoy listening to something new.
Peter Bjorn and John just release a new CD...theyre pretty indie and calm and good.
My personal favorite new group is One Day As A Lion...they recently released an EP...the group is the drummer from Mars Volta and the lead singer from Rage Against the Machine...amazing album.
They arent new...but if you like hip hop, a group it seems no one knows is Jurassic 5. Theyre good because their stuff is real hip hop. They flow well and remind you of the bands from the early 90s. theyre very good.
Also...Flobots are really good and worth a look. they have a single Rise out now, and Handlebars was their first which is amazing.
Dragonforce has a new cd, but it sounds just like all their other songs so its disappointing. but if you like their style...its good.
ummmm...Metallica is putting out a new cd the 12th...i dled it, and its really good. It sounds like ...And justice For All meets disc 2 of Garage Inc. Its got the hard beats, but faster, it sounds very good....diehard metallica fans will like it, unlike the Load series and St Anger.
thats all i can think of for now. ill come up with more

Actually, I found that they did a pretty good job of introducing some new sounds/elements to their music while still keeping the overall sound the same... not an easy thing to do when playing 1000000 notes a second. Choruses still sound like they could have come from any of their other albums though... but hey, they're still catchy as hell.
Here are some of the bands I've just started listening to. Not sure how new they are. I discovered them on Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius.
The Resistoleros, Ko & The Knockouts, The Shys, The Mooney Suzuki, Boss Martians, Woggles, Gurus, Dictators, & Lords of Altamont.
You can pretty much file them all under old fashioned "garage" style rock.
Some bands that aren't new, that I will always love are . . .
Clutch (Rock on, 1488!!!), FuManchu, Primus, Morphine, The Reverend Horton Heat, Rocket From The Crypt, Avail, The White Stripes, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Guns N Roses, Metallica (83 - 91 only).
Kind of a wide-open question, 017... which I like. When I read the responses, it tells me a lot about the posters they'd never share in some other topic.
(...been making and teaching music for a paycheck for 30 years...)
Lots of what I like falls waaaay outside the mainstream, so take my post for what it's worth... I'm a wierdo even to my colleagues, sometimes.
Straight-up Jazz is huge for me...and I just came across a girl named Esperanza Spalding who has me chasing down everythig she's done. She's a smokin' singer, bass player and arranger... and she's throwing down some pretty sophisticated, well-played stuff.
(...and she's pretty danged easy on the eyes, too... if that sort of thing helps you. Works for me, anyway... I'm checking to see when she might be swinging 'round my town...)
I couldn't tell from your post what kind of music you like... but if you're an adveturous, open-minded sort, you should check her out. You'll hear some stuff that you'll never probably hear on the radio, and stuff that just might take your ears in another direction-
His first two albums, "Deadringer," and "Since We Last Spoke" are pretty amazing. Great stuff, and stuff you would prolly recognize from TV commercials, the NBA has used his stuff, as well as some movies and such. All really cool. His third album uses live instrumentation and moves in a bit different direction than his first two efforts.

I knew you were a Sun Ra kind of guy. I played jazz trombone for years and one of the instructors was a huge fan. I'm sure you of all people would know them, I can't seem to get into it, it's like the guy's from Mars or something. I like classic jazz more so than the newer stuff. I actually saw Count Basie's Orchestra in concert. And I always like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, obviously... they made it look so easy.
Quote: - Deepthreat : No, thanks. Told you, I been listening to rap for a while...
Fist off It's DeepThreat. The T in threat is capital. I changed it on April 28th. Second, you can still listen to rap. I listen to everything except rap and hip hop.
John Mayer (especially if all you've heard is his radio stuff) His other music is much better than the radio stuff... Very Claptonesque... Mayer is one hell of a guitarist!
Ray LaMontagne, Will Hoge, Jack Johnson, Jack Savoretti, Damien Rice, and Coldplay. Also Joe Bonamassa and Jonny Lang are very good guitar players to listen to..
I went to high school with him(and the rest of Bone) used to sit at the same table as them at lunch. Even back then they were always working on beats and rhymes.

OOOOOKKKKAYYY if you say so. I can not remember which was which but I know two of them were brothers and the one I used to have gym class with was Stanley Howse,I think he was Bizzy Bone, I think Krazie is his younger brother. I graduated from high school in 1992 so it has been a long time. I actually belive Stan is in jail right now for pulling a machine gun out on a large group of people.

If it's the one that is in jail, it might be Flesh, which is kinda the 5th member. He was sorta part of the group, sorta not. I know Flesh was in jail for a while, so unless another one got thrown in, I don't think it's Bizzy.
Actually, I heard Bizzy on XM promoting his album a few months ago, as he's no longer part of the group either.
