Dude....stop...no....
Theres other canidates....im sure Phil has some names in mind...I trust him. I think we had to choose between RAC and Childress, or Grimm(shoulda been picked)..now we have talent...I actually have a little hope left...Phil and Lerner can get an intelligent, half way expirenced, leader of a HC in here b4 its too late.
Atleast I hope so.....

Why would ANYONE want Tressel...am I missing something? Guy cant beat teams as talented(supposedly) as his own. His title was with not with his recruits? He's not at all what we need.

I just finished listening to RAC's presser from Monday...
HE DECIDED NOT TO PLAY TUCKER! WTF? Tucker is much better than Hadnot or McKinney(sp?).
They are going to EVALUATE everyones play... What is there to evaluate? DA sucks. Make the change.
I'm so sick of this guy.

I am no RAC fan...haven't been for a few years, but in the spirit of fairness, we can't question every decision the guy makes and call it willy nilly.
He decided to keep a DL player instead.
I am not going to moan about that....neither should you.

You know RAC looked as though someone told him to fix this or else... and he has no clue as to what to do. I wonder if some of the players are turning on him. Also makes me wonder if some of that was going on last year at the end of the season and the DC took the fall for a mini mutiny....

Brian Billick may be our best bet if Cowher doesn't want the Browns job...
and I know people are going to hate hearing that.

Where do you see any evidence of the players turning on RAC. It's one thing to not agree with his decision making. It's another all together to make things up to fit your agenda. I think RAC has made his share of mistakes on game day. You guys are questioning the things he actually does right. The way he deals with the media and whether or not the players like him and have turned. That's just a stupid statement. Even the people that want him fired admit the players love him.

Ya know..nothing's happening right now..Rac won't be fired unless he loses the team..I know a lot of you hate to hear that. The stuff thats happening can be fixed ..a lot of it starting now..without a coaching change.. I know you all really hate that..too bad..

I agree 100%...... things are fixable...my question...and I think alot of fans question is............. WHY havent they started fixing what they can? The staff seems snail in honey slow to do anything, and wait until its too late.
I think if RAC has any hope of keeping his job...everything has to get fixed...penalties, focus, attitude, execution, personel moves...it all has to happen now....for him to stay.

I said it earlier and will say it again...I think Lerner has the idea that 1 playoff win is what it would take for Romeo to keep his job....maybe a close playoff loss would get it done.
Being in a position to be out of it by game 3 wasn't in the plans and I don't think is sitting very well at this point.
Owners have pride just like anyone else. He can't like going to owners meetings owning a ragdoll....it has to make him feel sort of foolish in and around his peers. Shoot, he probably lobbied to get some primetime games....he did, and now he has to sit there on national TV watching his team get clobbered...feeling like a idiot the whole time.
Again...JMO.....but Romeo had a fairly narrow window to begin with. I think it is about closed and nearly locked at this point.

Did you listen to the presser? They will start to ..or should I say attempt to fix whats wrong.
But you can't fix injuries. One more reason I said wait till week 6 ..most of the guys should be back then and getting reps. DA is another story..he's in a fog..perhaps the concussion did more damage to his dome than I thought. Perhaps it's made him tenative...there's where I'm leaning.. The advantage of DA was an ability to put the ball into the 25-30 yard range and his willingness to do so. Some how he's not doing that now, and he seems to stare all the way down the sideline.
Then you have Chud who isn't gameplaning to people's strengths and I'm curious why.. Rac mentioned getting Harrison the ball more..so he knows.. He mentioned getting him the ball more.. I 'd like to know why Chud is abandoning plays that work.. Thats a area that Rac needs to address with him.. Stupid penalities..Rac has to get tuffer on his players..
I've also heard that the QB IS NOT taking command in tde huddle..that clearly has to stop..people need to pipe down and get their instructions.. If I was in the huddle..well that crap wouldn't be happening.. So while a lot of you guys think Rac is stupid..he isn't ..he just needs to get tuffer in some areas..and make players perform or they sit.

Ya think?
We're already two and half games out, and 0-2 in the division. And we're showing little heart and no discipline. I think the "really hard to contend" ship has sailed. We are already at "extremely difficult to contend" and will soon be looking at "nice draft pick."

There has been a few QBs that were never the same after a good lick to the noggin. DA isnt the same QB that he was in camp. He is tentative, his accuracy is totally shot, he isn't reading what the defense is giving him.
Steptoe isn't a #2 receiver. Sanders has better hands, runs better routes and is a much more physical presence. I thought he was the 2nd best receiver in camp.
I don't have much of an issue with the playcalling. chud didnt become a bad OC over night. it is very poor execution. This last game reminded me of the Steelers first game last year, opportunity was there for several big plays but they didnt happen.
Mental errors have been killer between drops, penalties. Then tend to come at the worst times also.
Romeo I have never liked and never pretended to. I dont feel this team is prepared and his decision making is borderline lunacy. I have never felt that we won because of anything Romeo did but we have lost games because of his decisions.
Romeo has a chance to turn this thing around. Ordinarily 0-3 would be a death sentence but the rest of the AFC North looks like crap also. Ravens are 2-0 but if they win 7 i will be shocked. Bengals look almost as bad as we do. Steelers have a tougher schedule than we do and they have all kinds of cracks in the armor.
We lose to the Bengals and its gonna get ugly and I am talking 2 win season kind of ugly.

See I do have a issue with the playcalling..or scheme..here's a example.. DA is better going downfield..not really deep ..he can't lay the long deep in accurately..but he's a laser type ..
Post, Slant, In Route, Go, but all must be ran INSIDE the defender..or a tad underneath the deeper routes..20-30 yards.. We aren't doing that.
Use DA to the BEST of his ABILITY, once the Defense takes that away (by dropping LB's deeper, playing the DB inside and underneath the WR, and putting the Saftey over the top in a Cover Two) he is no longer of use. He is ineffective in any other style... Now we've seen corners laying 10 yards off Braylon..so why aren't we taking advantage of it even if he drops the ball? Use that 10 yard cushion until the DB comes up , then work him off that adjustment. Sooner or later they'll use a safety to come over , then you go to the other side , with the receiver on that side getting single coverage.

I like Sanders over Steptoe too. Sanders seems to be more athletic to me.
However, in his defense, I think Steptoe makes an alright back up to Cribbs and a good fourth or fifth receiver... which is what he made the team for.

We can't count on hitting BE in the situation you described because we have no other threats to keep him from being double teamed and when BE has to turn around to catch an inaccurate pass it becomes easier to close that 10 yard gap and punish him.

I agree attack that the play calling should be better...but I dunno IF DA can execute what you would like to see...to get back to strecthing the field DA has to prove to DC's that he can move the team slowly down the field with quick outs, slants, screens, etc.
I too would love to see us quick throw to BE when theres a 10 yd cushion..but how many times has DA thrown the ball 10 feet over his head....slants are way too high or wide, or worse in the ground. DA has never shown the ability to consistently throw anything under 10 yds.
I'm still not sure if Chud is calling bad plays or if he trying to use DA's strengths which are down the field. Until Quinn is in there, then we might see if Chud really is lacking or if he was just protecting DA's weakness's.
I think its a wait and see for Chud, this is only his 19th game as an OC.

Wrong..corner is giving a 10 yard cushion..quick hitter will make him adjust and come up..either the corner will continue to play off or he will creep up to come tighter..that allows Edwards to run a number of routes with tighter coverage meaning he can beat the corner and should either draw LB/safety help..that extra coverage frees up the other receiver and KW.. If you would notice opposing offenses are doing that to our defense.. It's not hard..

It's my opinion that Chud is part of the problem.
What makes you think he is the solution?
I'm not exactly ecstatic about his playcalling the last three games...but what do you expect the guy to do?
He's piloting an offense that's near 2003-2005 era calibur, and pretty handcuffed as to what he can do.
What do I expect? I expect to see him try something, mix it up, what was the definition of insanity again?
As for Marty, I have no concern with his ability to win the big one.. what I have concern with is that he's over 60 years old and even if he did a great job, he would need replaced fairly soon. I'd rather see a young energetic guy that brings some fire and can be here 10 years plus... that was one of my concerns with RAC as well.

"The offense can't decide who's the leader"
That is because of the leadership that DA has brought to the team.
Right now there are questions...no division but questions regarding the QB situation. But once again you will not see a Micro Managment of one mans opinion. All will be ONE with the decision that will come and sort out. It might be a quagmire till the bye week.
But already BQ is getting more reps with the starters. That much we do know. Whether that means if DA falters BQ comes in. Or BQ starts outright?
You can't go and pick a circumstance of poor play by the QB and now site...see they aren't on the same page. Actually they are. They all know something AIN'T right.
Too much ASSumption of the LOOK. Did anyone watch the game last night Jets vs. Chargers.
Same LOOK from the Mangenius.
Maybe thats the look of HC's who simply don't micro manage.
Moxy to lead the team to rise up....Actually this is probably his strongest virtue as he has done this time and again since he has been here.
Here is the reality TOAD...we just are not an echilon talented team and everyone is reacting as we are so RAC must suck. Possibly with 100% health throughout TC n Pre-season and limited injuries during the season. We could stand toe to toe and OUT TALENT our opponents.
This was the first game (Ravens) that I thought we had the upper hand of talent. Not sure totally cause I didn't know how "BACK" some of our injured were?
We lose Jones, Robaire, McG on the D JJ, Rucker still out. Stallworth wtf ES and Tucker out.
Again we didn't have the talent to survive big time errors. DA wasn't a plus but a minus for us. But we simply don't have the talent which ever way you look at it.
Savage is as much to blame for this start as RAC is. After all he got us this talent. But everyone will see its not his fault due to the injuries. But its RAC's?
Pats coach Bellicheck...nobody cares for. Show me one case about that. The tough moves you give Bellicheck credit for was regarding CAP more than tough love. And let me know again why the only Championships he has won has been with RAC as his DC. You know what they say wins championships.
Bellicheck is a good coach who you are mistaking NONE Charisma as not a players coach. RAC is underrated in his coaching technique cause his players love playing for him. And yet you claim that he can't get them to play hard for him which is the farthest from the truth.
Truth be told you and others have had him gone long before this 0-3 start. That says a lot btw - you and others are just opportunist to portray pre-concieved dislikes about RAC.
What you and others simply do not understand. We don't have the talent to overturn the injuries, individual mistakes, against top teams. And that would still exist with a change. And yes the change would then become a process of rebuilding once again...this time when we are pretty close to completion.
Why, why do fans who claim knowledge beckon this recourse is beyond me.
Mid-season coaching change...only if RAC loses the team. I don't see that.
Next year change...RAC says its a one year at time thing, he knows that. 13 games left...after the season the coaches will get reviewed as will the players. If its a problem, Savage should not have hesitation to pull the trigger...but then remember he would be firing his strongest ally on the Browns.
So in the name of failure...I think its a joint FIRING. Just remember what you all are asking for. I complete regime change...Back to square 0.
I just can't believe you all are in that much Pity to ask for this.
Burn the Witch! Not me.

eo, I would not question RACs ability to get the most out of a defense and how much he contributed to Belichics "greatness"... however the skill set required to be a head coach is different, it's more managerial, it's more organizational than it is Xs and Os.. so if I think that RAC is struggling with that transition, that is NOT an insult to what I think of him as a "coach"....
It's like your parents, when I was a kid I had my mom, who was loving and caring and mentoring... she showed me the error of my ways in a kind and gentle way. I loved my mom and feared disappointing her so I stayed pretty much in line... but when I got out of line, there was my dad, also loving, much less tender, willing to do whatever he needed to do to get my butt back in line. This coaching staff appears to have a bunch of "moms" and no "dads"... a lof of soft talk and explanations and almost pleading for players to do better and not make mistakes... IMO, it's the job of the head coach to be "dad"... to be the one who gets in your face when a false start turns a 3rd and 3 into a 3rd and 8, then get a delay of game which turns 3rd and 8 into 3rd and 13, then get an illegal formation that turns 3rd and 13 into 3rd and 18... somebody, simply put, needs to come down hard on the players that do those things and it needs to be immediate and it needs to be harsh.. not the next day in the training room or Tuesday in the film room.. right there, right now, on the sidelines.
I don't see ANYBODY in our coaching staff doing it. I'm not at the games, maybe it is happening and I don't see it... if so then I'm wrong, I've been wrong before.

The players love RAC b/c hes loyal to a fault, he doesnt kick this teams butt in camp....its just like having a boss that doesnt make you work much, lets you do as you please...of course your gonna love your boss...I would! Theres a HUGE difference between loving your coach/boss/parent/leader and respecting him...I dunno if this team repectes RAC's or beleives in RAC...but I have no doubt they love him. Problem is this is the NFL....."trying to play better" next week doesnt cut it...RAC needed to kick these players in the seat and possible bench some people AWHILE ago, didnt happen....and now that things are outta hand...now RAC might...might bench a few guys and give somebody a stern look. Much much more to being a manager or leader than knowing the X & O of whatever your doing....you have to have leadership and managerial skills. I dont think RAC has either....hes a great guy, nice to players but is a lousy coach and leader.

I've been done with RAC for a couple of years now. I think it was the Jaguars game with about 3 or 4 minutes to go and he punted, giving the Browns no chance to win. Not sure of all the particulars now though.
Now some of you might say weren't you happy with a 10 win season last year? I was but still not happy with RAC. This year he has already blown 2 calls (FG's), and playing Tucker cause he didn't want too.
Fire him now, bring someone in for interim coach, not sure who though. IMO, Cowher won't come here, I think Marty is done coaching. Billick are you even SERIOUS?
Again not sure who, but bring in an interim coach, with the understanding that if he turns it around we will give him a go next year, not for 5 years though.
Then I turn to Chud and Mel and tell them get your players playing or you are gone also at the end of the year.

The debate on the level of talent is just that a debate. i believe this team has enough talent even with the injuries to beat the Steelers and Ravens and also be competitive against the cowboys.
Tab the fact of the matter is that Romeo is not a very good in game coach and this team looks unprepared to play most of the time. If one side of the ball plays great the other side slumps. There is no consistency. The lack of discipline on this team is absurd.
Romeo simply does not help this team win but he has helped them to lose. If he sucks as an in game coach and the team comes out looking dazed and confused and once again top of the league in penalties they arent prepared. So what does he bring to this team?
Seriously What benefit does RAC bring to the Browns?

I'm pretty much against the whole "interim" coach concept. I can't think of a situation where an interim coach came in and did anything mid-year, not even a situation where an OC or DC was promoted within the system. I think at this point (as GM) you give RAC the rest of the year... I also think you sit him down and tell what you see that's wrong and who knows, maybe he can fix it... I would be shocked if he doesn't already know but sometimes hearing it from somebody else helps...
As GM I don't think you want to get into the business of telling him how to fix it... but you need to tell him...
The stupid penalties are a problem. The players not knowing where to line up is a problem. The timeout usage is a problem. The lack of creativity in playcalling is a problem. The lack of creativity in defensive blitzing is a problem. The lack of simple execution by some of our high dollar players is a problem.
Now, go fix them...
And oh by the way, us being 0-3 with 2 games where we got embarrassed... that's a big problem.

Regardless of whether or not we are the most talented team or the least in the league, his ineptitude on gameday when it comes to his decision making has absolutely NOTHING to do with talent.
Down three scores late in the 4th......and we kick a field goal?!
Going into halftime and he can't decide on whether or not call a T.O.?
It's been three years of this. He's an old coach who's not able to learn new tricks. Ignore that if you wish, but THAT is the thing we've harped on for years now. That has NOTHING to do with talent. But nice try.
Quote:

See above. Savage isn't making stOOpid gameday calls, and Savage isn't responsible for getting the team organized and ready to play.

Maybe you can show me where I said that.
Quote:

Opportunist: taking immediate advantage, often unethically, of any circumstance of possible benefit
Unfortunately for your accusation, I've been against RAC for three years, having been very vocal even during our winning season of last year. This basically means that while you'd LOVE to portrait me in an opportunistic light, you've swung........and missed. All I see is the same coach that I've seen for several years now......and been commenting on during that entire time.
Quote:

All or nothing, eh? I'm amazed that you can't understand that firing RAC DOESN'T mean a complete rebuild.
So firing RAC means Chud gets fired and the offense changes schemes? WRONG.
So firing RAC means we ditch the 3-4 and blow up the personnel? WRONG.
You're scared, Eo. Scared of change because you don't know what would come. You're afraid that firing RAC would mean a complete overhaul, as exemplified by this quote:
Quote:
So in the name of failure...I think its a joint FIRING. Just remember what you all are asking for. I complete regime change...Back to square 0.
Show me some proof that backs up your claim it'd be a complete rebuild. No, I don't expect you to have to produce a direct quote. That's asking too much. All I want is some hint of somewhere.....ANYWHERE.....that leads you to believe that firing RAC would lead to a complete implosion.
That isn't asking too much, is it?
I think you're simply afraid of what that change would mean. You don't have to be.
In case you'd like some proof that teams DON'T start over from scratch just because they get a new HC:
Quote:
PROOF NEW COACHES DON'T BLOW UP SCHEMES JUST FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE
Since he was hired in February, Zorn has opted to couple his version of the West Coast offense (Walsh's brainchild) with the preexisting ground scheme, established by Joe Gibbs (via Coryell). The choice to maintain Gibbs's running scheme resulted in more work for Zorn and his coaches this summer, but looked like a smart decision in Washington's 29-24 comeback win at FedEx Field yesterday. The Redskins rushed for 149 yards, draining New Orleans' defense and keeping the offense afloat while the passing game endured its ups and downs.
"We've been a pretty decent running football team the last four years here," center Casey Rabach said, "and things haven't really changed personnel-wise and play-wise in the run game. It's nice to see Coach Zorn sticking to it when it's working, and obviously the West Coast offense isn't fit exactly for that, but he's evolving with us, and we're evolving with him."
Don't be afraid of change, Eo. Chud is signed through 2012, and his fate isn't tied to RAC's, just as Savage's fate isn't tied to RAC's.
Playing the injury card in preseason and in the first two weeks was a LEGITIMATE reason as to why things are out of sync. However, the first two REAL games gave both units plenty of time to sync up. Blame Anderson as much as you like because he's played poorly, but Edwards has played like a bum, and the team simply doesn't look as though they are prepared to play.
That has nothing to do with injuries, and EVERYTHING to do with coaching.
I have to laugh at the idea that we'd start from scratch if RAC goes. Hell, it isn't even his offense!
Believe what you want, but what you fear is a fear of change, not a fear based on fact.

I'm pretty much against the whole "interim" coach concept. I can't think of a situation where an interim coach came in and did anything mid-year, not even a situation where an OC or DC was promoted within the system.
As you should be.
When you fire your HC mid-season, you're virtually guaranteeing that you've thrown up the white flag. Firing RAC right now doesn't do anything for this team. The ONLY legit reason for firing RAC is to promote Chud to see what he can do. Before anyone tries to twist my words, I'd say that I'm not for promoting Chud. I'm simply saying that's the only reason to make the move at this point in time.
When one looks at the schedule, there's a chance that this team could go 0-10 if we lose to the Bengals. If we get to 0-6 or 0-7, RAC could EASILY be fired as he'd most likely lost the team. In that case, the situation has changed and he should go.
But we're not to that point yet. He deserves a few more games to turn this around.

Click on the above ... May I add : A simple screen more than once a game ( blitzing teams ) .. Use a fullback with good hands ( see Vickers ) more ..
Moug: Hell yes on Sanders over Step

I think you cut to the chase .... Savage goes with RAC at least to the half way point .. I still don't think Savage is all that and and bag of chips ..

Savage has a reputation as a great GM, but that's mostly in Cleveland. His moves speak for themselves. Some were good, some were bad. He hasn't been a bum, but he hasn't set the world on fire, either.
Regardless of the job Savage has done, RAC can be judged on the body of his own work.
Now, how about a Savage thread, so we can discuss him at length

Speaking of Savage and the FO...I talked to some fans in Canton at lunch, talking about now that Bernie has his arena team all settled he'd might be more inclined to become the Browns president/GM.
Obviously in previous years...we were beatin a dead horse but, I wonder what Bernie is communicating to Lerner.....since they talk alot..and Lerner takes advice from Bernie.
I dont think its likely...but I wonder how realistic it is that Phil gets canned if RAC does...then what...etc

I have never thought RAC the right fit for this team. You think the NFL schedulers aren't slamming on their hip flasks wondering what possessed them to put this pathetic excuse for a football team called the Browns on high profile telecasts? I agree with Toad, lets see if RAC hangs himself or redeems himself. Till then we will suffer...and suffer...and suffer if things keep going the way they have been...but we are used to it..after all, we are Browns fans.

At this point does anybody...even the bigtime RAC homers....think RAC is gonna turn things around? He's a dead man walking...I think the players know it, I think he knows it.
But I dont expect to see anything different sunday....same old, same old...no changes. RAC has already hanged himself...I think now he would have to come back from the dead.

At what point would you actually say this happened? I think it happened in the Steelers game. Up until then, I've given RAC the benefit of the doubt. Do you think there's even a remote chance that his game management skills will improve?

i am pretty sure a guy has to have a neck to effectively hang himself.
