I for one allow these games (loss to Baltimore) to affect my mood week to week. I'm a little more edgy and my wife notices the differance from a win and lost cause of this. I actually find that I drink more as well. I already know now that I'm going to have a 3rd straight week of being in a bad mood. I may need help.

Problems? Not the whole week. It definitely does affect me today, and probably some tomorrow. I think it affects me less than it did several years back. I used to be in a foul mood for quite a while. But losing so much takes a toll. I don't like getting used to it, but that's what is happening.

I find that losing affects my mood for a day or two. These past few Sunday's I have wondered what better things I could be doing, but I'll always be back cheering for the Browns the next Sunday.

My team losing doesn't bother me for a whole week! At the worst it's an hour. Today I just shook my head and went home.... forgot about it before I got in the car. There are more important things in life, it's just a game.
A week? Do you have your IRA riding on these games or something?

LOL, I will admit losing to Pittsburgh gets my feathers ruffled a little more than other games!
I used to get really upset about it. I guess I kind of envy people who have nothing better to worry about. No offense to anybody.

I Wish I didn't care as much as I do..... I do admit I let it get to me way too much....
Doesn't help that I live out of town and am known in the office for being the die hard Browns and Buckeye fan...

I typically burn off all frustrations from a loss at the gym after the game.

Yes, and working with a bunch of Steeler fans, they rub it in all week. However winning the pickem's again this week and taking their money sooths the pain a bit

Doesn't really bother me, cuz I usually make the distnction between what I can change and what I can't before I allow myself to become angered.
The Browns play bad, and I just shrug it off. And look forward to next week.

So, are you of the opinion it's "just a game"? I also don't believe the Browns losing is all people think about. It crosses my mind now and then throughout the day and makes me a bit angry, but it passes until the next time it comes around. Just like anything else humans may think of.

I used to get very upset.......but since my daughter was born 10 months ago, I just look at her and then I smile. It's only a football game. Eventually, our time will come (and if it doesn't, it's still only a football game).

I said "No offense" so nobody would take offense! What I meant was there are more important thing and I don't see how people can let it bother their mood THAT much. Like Tyler said, you have no control over it so it's a wasted emotion. Why make your family and friends miserable? I know you don't take it that far but I know people who do and I've never got it.

I think some people would be more upset if they didn't have a message board to talk on. I come to the message board to get information about my team and read perspectives of fellow fans. I don't come here because I like to type conversations with strangers who I'll never see.
I have 2 young sons, a full time job and a business on the side. The reality of it is that the Browns are my escape and when I wait all year to just watch a team lay an egg on Sundays it does bother me. Is it a game? Sure it is but where I come from the Browns are a way of life as well. That's been bred into me from day one and I can't help it.

Yeah, but sometimes I don't leave the bar for an entire week.
No seriously, I wouldn't say that I'm over it before I get to the car....but definitely by the next morning. I was over yesterday's loss before my head even hit the pillow.

That's fine. Everyone has a life. But the way I deal with a loss doesn't make me any less of a fan than anybody else. I'm not saying I don't get frustrated during a game, but I was never cranky for seven days over a football game, even when I did bet on them. The Steelers fan gets it. I don't get you, you don't get me. We can now end the conversation since you'll never meet me anyways.

Oh, I didn't take offense...I was just curious how you look at the "game". I don't like the "it's just a game" crowd given that these bozo's make millions to play it. It's their job and I expect more from them than a bunch of weekend warriors tossing the pigskin around -- especially when I've been brainwashed into buying tickets.

I've always been a Browns fan. I will always BE a Browns fan (for better or worse). However, in the end, it IS just a game. Whether I leave the stadium elated or disappointed, my general mood is unchanged. The sun rises the next day (well, in Cleveland, there's always a CHANCE you'll see the sun the next day... ) and life goes on. For me, life is too short to be upset for days about a bad Browns' performance. I've been blessed with the resources to afford season tickets for the last four years. It was a dream come true for me and the great times I've been able to share with my teenage son at the games have turned out to be priceless; win or lose. Regardless of how each season turns out, I consider myself a pretty lucky guy.

I thought I made you mad. I totally get your reasoning, believe me. They're getting paid tons of money and should be doing better. But somebody has to lose. Sucks that it seems to always be our teams, but what can you do about it? Again, I get frustrated at times but I'm not losing money, I don't have my brother out on the field... no real personal investment. If something doesn't threaten my family, friends, finances, or my life, why should I sweat over it? But to each their own, whatever works for yinz.

Look, folks... I'm old.
Age has a way of readjusting one's outlook. I've been a Browns fan since 1960, when I first sat down with My Pops and watched an entire game. For me, Sundays with the Browns was a great way to share something special with him that nobody else in the house could really understand.
Win or lose, they were MY BROWNIES... and my Dad's, as well.
Pops has been gone since 1979... but this fascination of mine has never wavered. He handed down to me his fandom for the Browns like a precious family heirloom... and I honor his memory to this day by maintaining it-no matter how well (or poorly) the game on Sunday goes. In short- my fandom for the Browns will last for as long as I do... no matter WHAT happens from week to week, season to season. Don't get me wrong here- I cheer, scream, rant, rave, throw things at the TV, and leap out of my chair just like I did when was six years old... it provides my weekly 'cardio' while the O&B are on screen. But-
Getting old, and taking the 'long view' of things keeps me from getting too high or too low during any 7-day stretch between games. My life goes on... and I love my life. Perspective will give a person that.
WHEN the Browns finally win that next Big One, I'll probably have a heart attack from all the pent-up years of anticipation, highs, lows, and frustrations... but NOONE who knows me will blame the Browns for my demise. They all know I love'em that much. Even tho my time is probably shorter than the vast majority of You Dawgs, my time ain't up yet, so I can afford to be patient a bit longer. (Young Pups- take note...)
Does it affect my mood? Yes... for about 60 minutes.... and I'm working on shortening that timeframe. (Old Dawgs gotta watch their heart-rate, y'know....)
Hang loose, y'all.... our time WILL come. (Think Bosox...)

Sure losing affects me. However, I have lately had to take a step back and re-evaluate what's really important in my life. I recently lost my job of over 13 years due to budget cuts and tomorrow my 71 year old mother will be undergoing heart surgery tomorrow. If I didn't have the family and friends I have now things would be very difficult for me emotionally. It's taken things like this to realize it's just a game, and that's all it is.

I have been fan of the Browns for as long as I can remember. I think I realized I was a lifetime browns fan when I was around 5. Been hooked on football ever since. That would have been around 1976. I cannot write anything as eloquently as Clem put it so I will just say DITTO. Although I am working on the not letting losses get to me part still. Hope I have the kind of time it will take to not let it get to me at all.
Einstein could not even fathom the mathematical improbabilities of the Browns woes.

I to have seen the effects of a looseing browns game. It alters my overall happynes level for about 3 days. I have been watching the browns every sunday for 25 years. I CANT say that somewhere in my sub-conchense it does NOT affect me. I am a Browns addict. What else have I been watching all this time for, but to see them WIN! When they loose, I have emotional hangover.

I voted no.
Life is life, football is a game. The NFL didn't give me my beautiful wife, my house nor do they pay the bill. The Browns give me a reason to relax and watch a game I played for many years and love, but no I don't get wrapped up in the "depression" attitude some do, I can function normally minutes after a game win or lose, though winning is always great, but the Browns do not and have never dictated my overall mood. Life is way too short to get bent out of shape about something I cannot control.
