I just received a phone call from work that someone was looking for me. My wonderful fellow co-worker tells me over the phone that Jim was looking for me because my grandmother died. I am at a total loss as to how to feel about how I was told but I do know how I feel about losing my grandma.

She was a wonderful woman that led a simple life for as long as I can remember. Worked hard and loved her family with all her soul.

She was 100 years old on March 20th of this year. She saw alot and lived a long wonderful life.

Mam-mam, I will love you and miss you every day of my life. RIP and be with God.

Don't waste 30 seconds thinking about it. Use all the time to remember your grandma. God bless you and your family.

Thanks DC. I know, I was just pole axed that someone would do that. At least when my pops passed in 2003 everyone made Terry wait to tell me until I was home from work. Even if he was snotfaced drunk when I got the call.

I've been thinking alot about grandma because she is so much a part of who I have become over the years.

Saturday evening I was visiting with one of my extened family....my "daughter". We were telling stories about our families and the things that happened. I was telling them the story of my Grandma swearing the one and possibly only time I could ever remember her doing so. We had a good laugh about it and I know I will be ok but it hurts because she's been a part of my life for so long and even accepted my biological family as hers. You see, she was my adopted father's mother. So that made her more of a treasure than most folks would think. I only have a few folks left on her side of the family. So we are dwindling away. Great people, everyone of them in her family. Good West By God Virginians.

100 years is a alot of time to spend & touch the ones you love, Your grandmother spent her time well and her kindness sounds like will be passed on from her to you and your family. whenever you or your family member does something kind for another person, your grandmother will live on in the simple gesture, for she passed this on. If each one of us could be remembered & could pass on this to each other the world would be a better place.

Prayers to you and your family.

Thank you everyone.

Clay, that is so well said. It is true, do something kind for someone and pass that on to our children and grandchildren.

Thanks gang. I am at my sister's right now. (Yeah, the Steeler fan) We have a little fire going and just sitting around it quietly listening to some Yngwie Malmstein.

I had my daughter with me earlier because this is very hard on both of us. Me because she's the last of my pops side of the family except for the 3 youngers~me, Craig and Melody. I do believe I am the only one currently with children and grandchildren. So you see, there aren't many left from that side of the family and I proudly bear my gran's first husband's surname. I am proud to be her granddaughter. I was blessed so much as a child......I was adopted by a wonderful family and raised as their own. I met my biological family and have only one person in that family that I really have anything to do with on a very regular basis and it's my sister. My gran loved Shonda as if she were her own. We will miss her very much but we will also celebrate her life in a very quiet and modest way as would be befitting of a wonderful lady from the hills of West Virginia. Nothing fancy for her just a nice little fire and fellowship by that fire.

Again, thank you all for the kind words and once again I am glad to call this place "home". You are a wonderful group of people that I proudly call family. (most of ya'll any who)

Much thanks to all for your kind words and thoughts during this rough time. As each day goes by we all should try and do something good even if it is to smile at a person as they pass us by, it may change their day. this is the valuable lesson I learned from grams and will carry with me and pass on to others. Again much appreciation and thanks.

I am sorry to hear that Jan. At 100 though you can at least smile knowing she lived a long good life while she was here.

My Gandpa is 88 and fell down his stairs last Thursday and had to be lifeflighted downtown. He is recovering but wasn't doing too good at first, so I'd appreciate some thoughts coming his way if y'all don't mind b/c he has a hard recovery after this. He has almost 100 stitches over his face, head, and arm. He is a tough old bird though and was only worried that he may miss Sundays Browns game lol

My condolences Jan... I know exactly where you're at.

I just buried my grandmother yesterday morning.... Sunday, the day of her Wake, was her 99th birthday.

The last thing we all did before closing the casket was to sing Happy Birthday to her, but the line "..and many more." wasn't sung this time.

Sorry to hear that buddy...glad to see you still see some humor in the deal about the "and many more*"....I have a feeling she would.

* If that wasn't meant to be humorous, I surely didn't mean any disrespect...it sounds like something I would say.

In the end there is no real good way to tell someone.

I might not have done it that way, but I wouldn't bust someones chops over it.

Jan~Sorry to hear about this. She sounds like a great woman. {{{{{{{{{{atomic}}}}}}}}}}}

PPE~Condolences to you as well.

As Peen said, there is no right way to tell someone about a death. I found out about 2 separate deaths in unusual circumstances. One was through a Facebook posting of a friend, the other well, that is a long story, but I found out about it on a message board.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for thier condolences.

That said, I wanted to share the good news.

Some of you remember when my pops passed and I had that place in Myrtle Beach. Well, Grams made sure I didn't lose it and I had made a promise to my pops when he passed that I would stay in Ohio until we lost Grams.

I am now getting things in order to make the move to Myrtle Beach. I am going to give it a try for about 6-12 months and if it works well then I will completely close out my place up here and make the move permanent.

So iffen some of ya want to come and visit let me know.

I will be going to see my sister's youngest daughter the first week of November and we will be taking a quick side trip to MB. The side trip is to see what I need to pack up and take with me to Myrtle. Right now it looks like it will be, computer, cats, clothes and bedding.

Ended up being very informal. The preacher ended sitting to do the ceremony because of how few folks were there. (About 10-12) I will have an audio recording of the service from the funeral home. The "graveside" service was nice also. Alot of cemetaries do not actually do their services graveside anymore due to safety issues.

Thanks for asking L.

I'm actually looking forward to making the move even though I know certain people are not happy with me at the moment....oh well, maybe if she was a little less ungrateful and a little more adult about things I may have asked her to move with me but it won't happen now. At least I won't have unannounced visits from her.
