Report: Lions president and GM Millen finally out
Sep. 24, 2008
CBSSports.com staff and wire reports

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Matt Millen is finally out as Detroit Lions team president and general manager, FoxSports.com reported.

Millen has long been under fire as the Lions, 0-3 this season, have regressed during his tenure that began in 2001. The team is 31-84 during that time.

Millen's fate may have been sealed when he was ripped by the son of the team's owner this week after another sloppy loss.

"I think the fans deserve better and if it were in my authority, which it's not, I'd make some significant changes," Bill Ford said on Monday.

Asked by a reporter if he believed Millen should leave the team, Ford said, "Yes, I do."

The Ford Motor Co. executive chairman is the son of William Clay Ford, the franchise's owner since 1964.

At least one team in the NFL is in worse shape than us. Well, there is KC too.

Heh... heh... the only surprise is how long it took the Lions to get rid of the guy. The only folks who will be sad to see him go will be the various "Fire Millen" merchandise hawkers!

To bad.

It makes it easier for us when a few teams in the league are really screwed up.

Unfortunately, we'll probably have to listen to him in the broadcast booth or in the studio now.

We'll probably be hearing these sentiments when they finally get around to firing RAC. I hope I'm wrong.

Fox Reports Millen is out!

Gee ... what a shocker. I mean ... he took over a moribund franchise, and turned it into a perennial .....

I was listening to Andrew Siciliano on XM Fox Sports Radio on my drive down to Roanoke,VA and they were saying that over the life of his contract, plus the 3 years they are going to be required to pay him out for firing him the Lions have paid him 50 million dollars! Under his tenure, the Lions have won 31 games, equating to ~1.6 million per win.

They were debating if he was the worst GM in the history of professional sports....kind of humorous and sad at the same time when they started talking about all of the things that occurred under his tenure.

Whats really sad is we're in no position to criticize anybody not even Millen.

Actually, they might be one of the few teams we can criticize. Since Millen's arrival in 2001, the Lions are 31-84, 53 games below .500, and have lost 9 or more games each season.

In the same amount of time, our Browns have had three different people in charge of the team, Twiddledee and Twiddledumb (Policy and Clark), Botch, and Savage and have been 45-70.

the fords should have to refund any lions' fan who seen a game in person under millen's tenure. I'm serious too. to put an incompent dope in charge for 8 years and do nothing until now is stealing in my book. they could put sr ford in jail for all I care, he is a true scumbag. right up there with modell as far as I'm concerned. I have no sympathy for a thief. he put friendship in front of his customer base. he needs to pay.

Yeah my bad. Over 7+ years we've won about 2 more games per season than the laughing stock of the league. Just goes to show 3 heads are better than one. Those poor poor Lions fans....
