I want to know what people are thinking as to who the next Cleveland Browns Head Coach will be. Weather it's at the end of the season or at the end of the next game I want to know?

Somebody good.

But I like some of the things Crennel has done with the team. Crennel has done a much better job than Davis. So I'd like some things that Crennel started to stay.

Here are the options as I see them.

1. Established Coach with great track record (Cowher or Holmgren)

The problem is if you bring in either of these 2 guys they are going to want significant control of the FO. I personally like the job Phil Savage is doing and would hate to see him compromised by a new coach.

2. Ex-HC

The benefits are that the guy you hire will be more experienced and may have learned to be a better HC from his last failure. Or, his last failure might not have been that bad. I am just completely underwhelmed by the guys available.

Here are the top guys around:

Jim Fassel - Look back at the superbowl (not just winners) coaches from the last 20 years. Fassel, Cowher and possibly Holmgren are the only options that are not retired or still coaching their team. I still remember those Giants teams playing down to their competition and being undisciplined (why they brought in Coughlin). He might be a decent option, but he's not my style of coach.

Marty Schottenheimer - Ok, winning 10 games and losing our first playoff game every year actually doesn't sound so bad right now. But, with his increasing age and limited assistant coaching staff (most of his preferred assistants are pretty locked in where they are at), I would not be the biggest fan of this move.

Jim Haslett - This is just a pre-emptive move. The Saints were among the worst organized teams when he was in charge and the Rams defense has fallen apart since he has taken over there. Stay away, do not invite him into Ohio unless we are playing his team.

3. Elevate Top Assitant Coach

I prefer this method as I would rather have a guy who has earned his spot at HC rather than someone who has obvious flaws or who has failed as a HC before.

Offensive guys: Rick Dennison (Broncos), Mike Munchak (Titans), Andy Heck (Jaguars)

It is not a coincidence that all 3 offensive guys here are or have been OL coaches. OL coaches have to understand both the offense and defense as well as any other position (one could argue with QB). These 3 coaches all lead hard-nosed, disciplined units. I would discount Dennison a bit though because I think our OL would struggle to convert to a Denver-style zone blocking system.

Defensive guys: Jim Schwartz, Rex Ryan, Jim Johnson, Gregg Williams (redskins), Steve Spagnuolo (giants)

Spagnuolo gets the most out of his guys regardless of injuries (last year secondary or this year DL). His schemes are extremely impressive to mask his teams weaknesses.

Jim Johnson would be a fun guy to have, but I think he might be wired best as an assistant (mad scientist type of guy...sort of like the defensive Mike Martz).

Gregg Williams has definitely earned his chance at HC. I would be happy with him, but I fear too many would see him as another Romeo hire (career DC, older, taking over).

Rex Ryan is another guy who gets the most out of his players. And you would have to assume Phil would know if he would have a good working relationship with him or not from their time in Baltimore. Oh, and we would be weakening a division rival.

Jim Schwartz - Is there a more disciplined group in the NFL than the Titans defense the past few years?

My favorites right now would be either of the Titans assistants (Munchak or Schwartz). I feel Fischer runs an incredible organization and we could reap some of the subsidiary benefits by bringing them aboard.

After them Spagnuolo and Rex Ryan would be my next choices.

Actually Gregg Williams has been a head coach. He ran Buffalo right after Wade Phillips destroyed em.

He's been there but proved to be better suited as a DC.

I like the Idea of Rex Ryan or Steve Spagnuolo

I would LOVE to see our D run the way Rex Ryan runs the Ravens D...especially with what they do before the snap.

Who will be? I honestly believe Bill Cowher.

Who do I want? Bill Cowher.

Who do I want if I'm wrong and we can't get Cowher? Lane Kiffin.

Well, since neither of your timelines are accurate at this point, why do you want to know. RAC is the coach until this team has a complete meltdown and/or Lerner and Savage lose faith in him. Neither have occured. It's amazing how the most "intelligent" fans in the NFL can post things like this.

I really believe a "Cowher" or his very self, is what the Browns need, and I will support that.

However, I just get that feeling in my mouth that I just brushed with Steeler Toothpaste.

I'm for getting Marty back.

Andy Reid and Jeff Fisher aren't going anywhere, that's my only problem with those 2.

I got...

1. Bill Cowher
2. Lane Kiffin
3. Mike Holmgren
4. Mark Richt
5. Jason Garrett

Okay, so Garrett probably isn't a possibility because he's next in line for the Cowboys job, but it's my list and I'll do what I want

I'd personally want Cowher, but I doubt we'll get him. And if we do it seems like selling out.

I really wish we could get Garrett from the Cowboys. He seems to be the next up-and-coming coach. I just want a coach that's really good that we can keep around for a long time. Sort of like the way the Steelers do it. A coach who can last something like 15 years with this team.

Since he's probably not an option, I'm really not sure. May be we can get Jim Mora Sr. out of retirement. That's what we need. A guy who's straight with the media.

Are we really talking about this? WHO in their right mind thought we would win these games? We had to be 100% as a team to even have a shot. We cearly are not...how can you blame romeo for it? All i can think of is the clock management against the steelers was the only real bad decision i can place on romeo...other then that it's pretty much up in the air.

...actually, in Diam's thread I had us losing our first 5.
It doesn't matter what we thought though. The 'media' thought we were going to be great and gave us all those prime time games....so now if we don't live up to that somebody's head has got to roll. And since Romeo's head is the roundest it'll probably roll the best.

The next HC has to be someone who is a proven winner, and a veteran HC. No more rookie head coaches...We need someone with experience, and someone who is not afraid to get into players faces...We need Bill Cowher...If we can't get him...I wouldn't be opposed to Brian Billick.

Why would Cowher want this job? He left Pitt where he had much more power than he'd have here, a stronger culture, tradition and a better team. And he left to spend time with his family etc. Would get none of that here. Not going to happen.

If the Cowboys go deep in the Playoffs and it looks like Wade Phillips is there for the extended stay: Jason Garrett
Cleveland guy (his brother is a teacher at U.S.), he's smart, not too political or power hungry (my read) and a very hot head-coach candidate. Organized, good work ethic and did I say smart? (Princeton and a former NFL backup QB.) And he kinda feels like Savage's younger brother. I think he and Jerry Jones gambled that Wade might fall on his face. Looks right now like that gamble isn't panning out. They're not going to be able to keep that kid as a coordinator after this year if the Cowboys go to the NFC Championship. He's some team's HC next year and I wouldn't mind him being ours. I could totally see him being a Tom Landry type.

my choices

1. Marty Schotenheimer
2. Bill cowher
3. Russ Grimm

im suprised so many are not mentioning Russ Grimm...i would love to have that dude here. He is "our Bill Cowher" he was Cowher's Assistant Head Coach for years, Acctually Cowher "groomed him" and reccommended him to the Rooney's to take over for him after he left...of course the Rooney's dropped the ball as IMO I think Grimm is a better Coach..too bad he didn't get a chance to prove it

Grimm is a Former OL and he understands AFC North Football...this guy is not only passionate, but he is well repected and very smart around the league

More Importantly, Grimm would be more than happy to Work with Phil Savage so we don't have to shale up our FO as much

Grimm would bring that Steeler Mentality(which is actually old Browns Metality) back to this city and back to the Browns lockerroom

Grimm would get us to play smart hard-nosed AFC North football....if we can't get Cowher or Marty...Grimm should be our Choice

What more do you need to see?

The talent on his side of the ball, defense, is not developing. That's on the coaching staff.

Bad play calling- Coaching staff

Terrible game day coaching- All on Romeo

Slow to make a decision- Again, All on Romeo

If he loses to the Bungles, his fate is sealed. Even if he doesn't, anything less than 7 wins will be a failure this year.

Pete Carroll was a failure here in New England. The players had control of the team. He can't handle the big boys. He needs to stay in the school environment.

LOL.

I hate these kinds of threads anyway. It's just a bunch of people throwing out a bunch of names for a team who hasn't fired their coach yet. Silliness.

I think all the speculation is way too premature BUT I can hear the Fat Lady warming up.Especially if we go 0-4 this week. God forbid.
