It's a mix of all of those and also this will get the pressure off the public demanding domestic drilling.

Foreign oil companies don't want us drilling here.

I've never been one for conspiracies, but what if this whole shortage and excessive demand thing were intentional to condition us so that $3 a gallon gas made us happy. A year and a half ago, $3 gas would have caused outrage and now we're celebrating it. Just a thought....

Hummer is only $10 if you find the right corner....oh wrong kind.

it is a supply and demand thing, but the supply end is controlled to keep prices where the middle east wants it. Hence why they are talking about cutting back supply right now, because demand is down.

Truth is, the oil in the ground isn't any more expensive, most of the equipment used to get it out of the ground has been in service for years and costs no more than it ever has. And refining still is the same, the only thing that has changed is that as the price of oil goes up, so do all the resources needed to get the oil from the ground to your car, thereby increasing production costs, and raising cost, and starting the circle all over again.

It happens every single spring, summer and fall.

In the spring, prices escalate rapidly on various, meaningless "worries" about things that MIGHT, but pretty much never do, happen. Tensions with some oil producing nation, some dictator spouting off or some rain storm blowing through... take you pick depending on the season.

In the summer, prices peak around 25% higher than they were.

In the fall, prices fall back about 10-15% from that peak giving the public a sigh of relief.... and the same cycle begins for natural gas and heating oil through the winter.

If oil gets too low, I see Russia doing something about it. Or at least trying. Exactly what that is I don't know, but I have some guesses...........

Must be nice. Here in NC we are still around $3.85 or so and we have little supply in many areas.

I guess I'm not quite up to speed,...why does Russia have to worry about it getting "low" ?? Do you mean the price because they export a lot to us, or worry about their own supply getting low,..??

Not their supply. They are counting on high oil prices to pay their way, so to speak. Let's face it, russia is a major player in energy. Not just oil, but natural gas. High energy costs help them, low costs do not.

Before it's all said and done, Russia and some of their allies will act. What will the actions be? Reduced supply maybe/probably. Assisting others in terroristic attacks on current energy suppliers?

Just my lowly opinion, but I feel Putin wants Russia to be THE major player in this world. And he sees energy as the means to that end. Directly or indirectly, they control quite a bit of energy.

I guess that's better then no gas in Atlanta. I was there last weekend and any place that actually had gas was around $4.19-$4.39 and the lines were at least 1/2 mile long...

I absolutely refuse to be excited about gas dipping below $3.00 a gallon.

Until we're back in the $1.20s, I will stay pissed off. So, I'm conceding that I will stay that way the rest of my life.

I saw 3.27 on my way home from work just now. How there's a .30 difference is just goofy.

Hey! Where'd you get those prices in the Falls? When I filled up at the Sunoco on State Rd. last night, it was $2.97. No tthat I'm complaining, just curious. I only pay about $30/month is gas, the rest is paid for by my employer.

Obviously I'm not dancing a jig over this, but as of two weeks ago, I thought I would never see it again.

One thing I've noticed since I started watching the gas prices using that link, is that the gas stations I set up as my "watch list" do rotate their prices in the given citys. Example, I monitor Westlake, Elyria, and Sheffield Village. They are on my drive to work path (about 13 mile trip). Every two weeks, one of these areas will be the new "best price" area.

For example, two weeks ago, Westlake stations were 20 cents higher than Sheffield and about 10 cents higher than Elyria. Now Westlake stations are 10 cents lower than Sheffield and 20 cents lower than Elyria. A month ago, Sheffield had the best prices by the same differences. Its been like clockwork and this has been going on for months. If not collusion, what is it?

Those prices were at the gas station(Circle K) when you get off at Steeles Corners). Also, the same price can be found on the corner of Steeles and State Rd.

The cheapest gas is always down in the valley, the AM/PM station on the corner of Akron-Peninsula and Merriman.

Thanks, I'll have to keep an eye out. I was on "E" yesterday so I just went to the nearest station.

Ammo~Gas prices almost always drop in fall, election year or not. It's not a conspiracy. Though the amount of the tumble is surprising. I figured we'd settle in at about $3.19/gallon this fall.
