I have an original xbox that nobody can fix. I'm just debating what to replace it with. I've almost ruled out another original since the 360s can play my old games. I just hate all my controllers to be trash.

Is a used 360 going to last? Should I just spring for a brand new one?

I found a place in town where a used 360 costs $200 plus $7 for the upgrade. Is that a good price? I know there are three different kinds, this is all so confusing!

I guess I'm just a little upset that I have an Atari older than I am, and this Xbox lasted a cool seven years.

Any advice?

Honestly the PS3 is a better deal. Especially if you have an HDTV.

360 + Wi-Fi connector + Blu-Ray Player costs more than a PS3 (Blu-Ray player and built in Wifi).

I don't have an HDTV yet. Is the Wifi thing necessary to play games? I thought it was just for xbox Live.

It's not that I'm against PS, I just have a lot of xbox games that I love. I'm really behind the times, I played an 8bit Ninendo up until the xbox came out. And that was only because it was a gift.

My concern with a used one would be the 'red ring' freeze issue.

Make sure that if you do buy a used one, it already has a harddrive. Most of them do, but if you don't have the harddrive then you can't play your old XBox games.

considering the horror stories I've heard with the 360, I think it would be a big risk to buy one used.

Just get the $199 model if you can afford it. Red Ring of Death should stop anyone from buying a used 360 and I'd hate to see anyone throw thier money away. Even a BenGal.

Thanks for the input everybody. I've decided to get a new one, but will probably hold off until the Christmas time sales. I've been reading the official website trying to figure out which model is the best deal but they just make it so hard to understand!!

Anyway, I apreciate you guys for stopping me from making a mistake!! <3

why?

they basically let you ship it to them for free, and you get a brand spanking new one in return.

actually, going out and buying a used 360 wouldn't be a bad way to go...

i've heard of people buying defective ones, wrapping them with hot wet towels, and letting the red rings show up, just so they can go send it in and get a new one.

my original xbox broke in 2004, and i had problems with just about everything when they handled it, but just a few months ago my 360 went and they have really improved their customer service.

i own both a 360 and a ps3, but really, i play them both equally as much.

Wouldn't they have to be owners covered under a registered warranty to do this?

IF you go the Used ( refurbished) route.
You can get one form Microcenter with the starter hard drive and controller.
Microcenter.com sells them for $179.
On the other hand. my brother purchased a new one and has the warranty.
It was extended due to all the problems alot of users are having.
My brother has just sent his in for the third time.
He has one of the older hotter running models.
If you want to go new buy the Elite ( black) 45nm CPU, rather than the 65nm.
It is the Cooler running Elite with larger hardrive and more connection options.I think.
I do not know much about the PS3.
Xbox has better online service.
But SONY's just got revamped I think.
I myself prefer PC gaming.
As far as consoles go.
I think it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.
But what to do with a bakers dozen?

You could pick up a new 360 and the 20GB hard drive for $220 now. The arcade system is $200, and Microsoft now has a deal where you can get a refurbished harddrive in preparation for their big release this November. Here's the link:
