I have a girl I consider my daughter. I find her nudity no more uncivilized than I would find any male nudity. I consider harming others indecent and unacceptable. There is a world of difference between indecent and uncivilized. I find it is civilized to treat people with kindness and respect.

I feel the majority of the population supports the status quo. If we lived in a place where nudity was the norm the majority would support nudity. I understand our law here has restrictions on personal nudity in public, there are a few movements (topfree and public breast feeding) which have significant support from the population. I am not terribly bothered about modern nudity laws, what I find objectionable is when the restrictions punish unfairly when no harm has taken place.
I do worry about the public conception that genitals and breasts are somehow indecent. I wonder how much body image issues would exist in a world where clothing wasn't the norm.

How does somone getting off to her picture hurt her? It might gross her out, and being grossed out would be her choice.
The only way she can get hurt is if she is socially ostracized such as being sent to a detention center or having this story posted up in the news....
She can't control how other people treat her or respond to her actions, she can only control her own behavior.

Here is the problem ... such as it is .... with a situation like this:
This same 15 year old girl could be having sex with every person she had sent the nude pictures to instead .... and if they were the same age, there is nothing the law could do about that. (and I would presume that she'd be naked having sex as well)
I understand the intent of child pornography laws ... but we really have a heavy duty double standard here. Kids having sex ...... often with older kids ..... and sometimes even with adults ... and many times resulting in pregnancy results in people (and often the law) looking the other way. Naked pictures though ..... well, surely that's worse.
IMHO, it's all different aspects of the same societal problem of kids trying to find acceptance somehow ..... in any way ..... because they don't feel valuable or valued in their own lives. I think that this girl is probably wanting people to like her ..... in any manner ..... and just like the girl looking for "love" by sleeping around at a young age ..... she's looking for acceptance by giving away her body through pictures. It's a tragic situation, but not within the law's intent of preventing children from being preyed upon by lecherous adults.

I think I understand Kings position.
Nudity of itself is not indecent, well unless your 3' and 800lbs but that's another matter. Public display of nudity is taboo basically because we made it that way. While even in other parts of the world, public nudity is against the law, America has a much harder stance on the issue.
Nudity on television in Europe isn't considered indecent as it is here in America, in many ways we are overly prude about the issue. We have let society decide that the human body is an object of sin and should be covered at all times.
Should everyone be allowed to walk around naked in the streets? Probably not, but if you choose to take nude photos of yourself for your friends and family to see, that's your business, aside from one of them being disgusted, and then it should be a simple "Don't email that anymore."
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Well put. I personally wouldn't mind having people walk around nude in public. If we lived near the equator I'm sure it would make a lot more sense to do so... In Ohio you end up with major shrinkage and hypothermia  Would you prefer to walk around naked if you could?
