I've recently started investing some money for the long term (retirement) in stocks, etc. but I had a question for some of the people who may have a little more knowledge then I do.
What are your thoughts on investing in the Ishares Trust S&P 500 Index (Ticker: IVV) or the S&P Spider (Ticker: SPY) in an attempt to diversify a bit? Why or why not? and what are the tax implications or fees (if any)? or is it handled just like a regular single unit of stock would be?
Also, would you go the ETF route over lets say a no load mutual fund?
Thanks in advance!

Stick w/ ETF's - cheaper than funds and more flexible.
SPY is a great place to start. Build that up and then throw in an international ETF and a small cap ETF into the mix. Some like bond ETF's but I don't.
