Google is a wonderful place:

Looks like this guy certainly knows how to use a TE:

Rob Chudzinski -- Tight Ends
3rd NFL Season, 2nd with Chargers

Rob Chudzinski had excellent results in his first season with the Chargers as Antonio Gates was voted to his second-straight Pro Bowl.

Under the man known as “Chud,” Gates set new career highs in 2005 with 89 catches and 1,101 yards. His 89 catches tied Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow’s team record for single-season receptions by a tight end and his 1,101 yards were the most by a tight end in team history since 1983 when Winslow racked up 1,172. Gates also snagged 10 touchdown catches in 2005 to become the first NFL tight end with 10 or more touchdown catches in back-to-back seasons. He is also only the second tight end in NFL history to register more than 1,100 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches in the same season.

Chudzinski came to the Chargers from Cleveland. When Browns Head Coach Butch Davis resigned in 2004, offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie became the interim head coach and Chudzinski was promoted to offensive coordinator for the final five games.

Coincidentally, Chudzinski worked extensively with Winslow’s son, Kellen II, as the tight ends coach in Cleveland and as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Miami. In 2003, Winslow II won the John Mackey Award as the nation’s top collegiate tight end before becoming a first-round pick of the Browns.

During his three seasons (2001-03) as offensive coordinator at Miami, the Hurricanes played in three Bowl Championship Series games, including two National Championship games. In 2001, his first as coordinator, the ’Canes went 12-0 and defeated Nebraska to win the National Championship. In 2002, Miami’s offense set school records for points, total yards and rushing touchdowns. The ’Canes went 12-1 in 2002, their only defeat coming in overtime against Ohio State in the National Championship game.

Chudzinski also helped develop two other All-America tight ends at Miami, Bubba Franks in 1999 and Jeremy Shockey in 2001. Franks and Shockey both became first-round picks and Pro Bowlers with Green Bay and the New York Giants, respectively.

Chudzinski played tight end for the ’Canes from 1986-1990 and was a member of National Championship teams in 1987 and 1989. He graduated from Miami with a degree in business in 1990 and an MBA in 1996.

Chudzinski was born May 12, 1968 in Toledo, Ohio. He played football at Toledo St. John’s High School. Rob and his wife, Sheila, live in San Diego.
Rob Chudzinski's Coaching Experience

2005-06 - Tight Ends, San Diego Chargers
2004 - Tight Ends and Offensive Coordinator, Cleveland Browns
2001-03 - Offensive Coordinator and Tight Ends, University of Miami
1996-2000 - Tight Ends, University of Miami
1994-95 - Graduate Assistant, University of Miami

I remember Chud, and Heiden really blossomed under his tutelage. Plus, the offensive numbers seemed to get better while he was calling the shots. But history had a way of distorting the truth, so prove I'm wrong...

thanks ABF......
i understand that the league may have changed the rules to stop coaches from bailing. i also understand that it's a rule using a play with words, because there is a pecking order in any business or just plain life in general.
anyone remember when mo and davidson had a falling out? it was simply because the two weren't on the same page on the plays being called. that being said, mo won the battle because he had the final say. he was OVER davidson and the other O position coaches.
they can change the rule if they want, but don't insult the fan's intelligence by saying they are all lateral moves because they aren't. there is a pecking order and they all have to answer to someone other than rac.

Just clicking...

Looks like the Browns are waiting to interview "someone" else for the OC position and the only reason they would be waiting is, they have to.

Just a guess, but there may be someone on the stafff of one of the remaining four playoff teams that Savage wants to interview.

Now, who might Savage be waiting for?

Browns asking to talk to 'Chud'
Saturday, January 20, 2007
By Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns have been granted permission by the Chargers to interview former Browns assistant Rob Chudzinski for their offensive coordinator job, the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting.

Chudzinski, currently the Chargers tight ends coach, joined the NFL in that capacity under Butch Davis in 2004 and was promoted to coordinator when Davis resigned with five games remaining and Terry Robiskie was named interim head coach. He was viewed as a rising star in Cleveland before Davis resigned.

Chudzinski, a Toledo native and lifelong Browns fan, is one of four candidates so far. Others include current Browns offensive line coach / assistant head coach Jeff Davidson, Browns quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer and former Atlanta offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

Chudzinski - better known as Chud - joined the Chargers after 2004 and has learned from one of the best in former Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who took over as Dolphins head coach on Friday. It is not yet known if Chudzinski will interview for the Chargers opening.

Chudzinski, the former Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator under Davis who coached Kellen Winslow Jr. there, helped lead the Chargers to No. 4 in total offense this season and No. 1 in scoring. He also coached tight end Antonio Gates to his third consecutive Pro Bowl.

In his first season with the Chargers in 2005, Chudzinski helped Gates achieve career-highs with 89 catches and 1,101 yards.

A former Hurricanes tight end, Chudzinski was credited with developing three premier tight ends at Miami: future NFL Pro Bowlers Bubba Franks and Jeremy Shockey, and Winslow. Chudzinski was instrumental in the Browns drafting Winslow with the sixth overall pick in 2004.

He has a great relationship with Winslow and undoubtedly would be good for him on and off the field.

In Chudzinski's three seasons as Miami's offensive coordinator, the Hurricanes went 35-3 and finished in the top 10 on offense every year. In 2003, the Hurricanes averaged 27.8 points and finished with an 11-2 record, including a 16-14 victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

In 2002, Miami enjoyed its most prolific season under Chudzinski, setting school records for points (527), total yards (6,074) and rushing touchdowns (33).

It kinda makes me wonder why he was "let go" as TE's coach after Butch left. I really thought he would have been one to stick.

Then again, maybe he resigned too.

Another Plan B interview. See what Chud has learned under Cameron, who's offense led the league with 30.8 ppg. Damn near doubles our offensive output.

I was thinking the same thing. We want the guy back when we could have had him all along.

I wonder what it was about him that made Romeo feel he wouldn't be a good coach on his staff then and be so good now??

And just a hint....this isn't a dig at Chud

I shoulda used a wink at least. or a smirk.

Doesn't it seem puzzling that they didn't retain him but now want him back? I don't know but I wonder how often that happens. Not good enough to be the tight ends coach but relished as the OC.

It was probably RAC giving his bud, Ben Coates a shot at coaching.

Probably so....I don't think Romeo gets to make many calls on staff or selection matters anymore.

It is almost as if we have a eunuch coaching our team.

You sent me on a hunt with that one...

Eunuch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

European illustration of a Eunuch (1749)A eunuch is a castrated man; the term usually refers to those castrated in order to perform a specific social function, as was common in many societies of the past. The earliest records for intentional castration to produce eunuchs are from the Sumerian city of Lagash in the 21st century BC. Over the millennia since, they have performed a wide variety of functions in many different cultures such as courtiers or equivalent domestics, treble singers, religious specialists, government officials, military commanders, and guardians of women or harem servants. In some societies, the notion of eunuch has been expanded to include men who are impotent with women or are simply celibate.
----

Who really knows the situation. Perhaps somebody had close ties with Coates. I haven't been a big fan of Coates since he told Belleyache in N.E. that he wasn't there to block. Just doesn't seem to be the right attitude about the position...especially as a TE coach.

Chud left for San Diego before Romeo was even hired. Stop spreading rumors for the pessimests!
