First of all, let me say that I absolutely love Firefox. I've used it for several years now. However, lately I've had several problems with it crashing (crashed as I was typing the previous sentence). I've tried to use Mozilla's support for this with no luck, and I know there's several people on here that use firefox, so I thought I'd try to get some help.

Here's the message I received on one of the crashes from the Crash reporter:

Quote:

Add-ons: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0007-ABCDEFFEDCBA}:6.0.07,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.0.3
BuildID: 2008092417
CrashTime: 1225566409
InstallTime: 1222556905
ProductName: Firefox
SecondsSinceLastCrash: 337
StartupTime: 1225566238
Theme: classic/1.0

UserID: 7e8094cf-6194-4f93-b1e7-b63cac168319
Vendor: Mozilla
Version: 3.0.3

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

I don't have any extensions and I previously disabled all of my plug-ins and it crashed then as well (it crashed twice while I was typing that sentence).

I already tried once to post this and it crashed on the preview screen, so I had to retype all this.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Maybe it's problems with Firefox then, I tried the Beta version of Firefox 3.1, but it did the same thing for me. It's crashed probably 10-15 times on me today, in about 4 hours.

First thing, stop downloading porno, it is very bad for you're computer.

Have you checked out a Mozilla message board? I've yet to have firefox crash on me so I'm not to sure how to help you here. Have you installed anything (programs or windows updates) lately? Try retracing you're steps of installs since the crashes started, maybe something you downloaded is not agreeing with firefox.

Only thing I have to toss out is, are you using AVG 8.0? There was an issue with AVG 8.0 causing firefox to crash frequently. I rolled back to avg 7.5 and haven't had a problem since. That was back in August, not sure if the issue was fixed or not.

Worst case scenario, backup your bookmarks, then uninstall it and reinstall it fresh. Should work.

Not sure what's causing yours to crash. Could be a bad ext that you're not seeing that has corrupted a file. Could be just about anything, unfortunately that error message doesn't give you much technical info.

Are you speaking from experience?

I haven't downloaded anything new recently.

Don't have AVG, on campus here at Tennessee they require you to have McAfee to access the internet.

This has seemed to work so far. I tried re-installing without deleting the private data, that didn't work. So I did what you advised.

Thanks to all who offered some help, it was incredibly frustrating. At times it was crashing every 2 minutes.

I'm using v3.0.3 (same as you) and have not had any problems with it. Have you installed something new on your computer?

No, I haven't. I fully uninstalled and reinstalled and it seemed to work, so far anyway.

Thanks again Keys, didn't realize I could backup my bookmarks. That's what was preventing me from fully uninstalling.

Where in Tennessee are ya?

More then likely you did have a corrupt file, how long did you use it before it started crashing?

lol, I'm at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

I've had it for three or four years maybe longer, but from Jan. 2007-Aug. 2008 I didn't have an internet connection on it. We only had dial-up where I live. I just started using it again around the middle of August. It worked fine until a couple weeks ago, when it started crashing. Then it got a WHOLE lot worse about the beginning of this week.

If you uninstalled and did a fresh reinstall, then you definately had a corrupt file somewhere. Which is easy enough to do. Any plug in could have tried to write to your file and got stopped or caught in a loop for some reason and corrupted the file. It may have been adware, or malware from some site as well.

Since you put a fresh version in, make sure you add the NoScript plug in. It will prevent a lot of browser hijak'ing and you can still allow the sites that you know and trust.

J/C,

I'm having an issue with Firefox...it thinks I'm in France. It pops up Google, Yahoo, etc in French. My computer itself is brand new, only two months old and everything I have checked shows I'm still in the good ole US of A. I logged into Gmail and checked my setting, and nothing shows that I'm in France.

Can anyone help?

I think your browser is just guessing at the results of tomorrow's election and adjusting itself early to the inevtiable.

At my post?

Foxmarks is a great add-on and backsup all your bookmarks remotely. You can even access on the road from a different computer.
