I'm talking about the Coaches and players silly

Not us fans

Diam...hopefully you read that article by Steve Doerschuck. It answers a lot for me. Sure it was exactly what I wanted to read but that doesn't mean it was made up as some I'm sure will profess RAC is just towing the company line for his job.

As you stated, RAC is a stand up guy that has been coaching too long to be dictated to. His quotes seem hones and genuine and he states that this was his call and it was due to.

Our Record (several games we just should have won)
Offensive Ranking 30th
Offensive Production 27th with the Bengals, KC, Lions, Rams and Raiders all behind us...A who's who of Offensive futility!

He had to do something or felt that he did. Not to save his job but to save our season cause the HC and staff ain't giving up.

I still don't know if this means the end of DA - the kid should make it a no brainer I hope.

On the DA thing...I no I'm right no need to debate...lol j/k I don't really know what we disagree about. Except nice to know the Coaching staff is on the same wave length as me. Time for a change cause you can't fire the entire offense...fire the QB.

I just listened to Doug Dieken on 1460the Fan, and they asked him who's decision was it?
Diek said it was Rac..and he was saying the offense needed more consistancy and wasn't getting it.

NRTU Attack.......

I'm curious...........does anyone REALLY believe that this is RAC's decision alone?

Knowing what we know regarding Savage stripping him of some of his power with the whole Ben Coates/ Mo Carthon thing, I don't believe for a moment this is RAC's call. I even waited until I could see his press conference for myself before making that call. He's lying through his teeth, and sincere people don't lie very well.

850's morning show with Tony Rizzo...wasnt as sure, he was saying it was Phil...but I heard RAC...and he sure was convincing that this was his call.

If not, hes a dang good liar, and can say all the rights things with only a few hours preperation, and to speak geniunely...the butterflys are slowing leaving my stomach. I think RAC was in on this.

If it is as you suggest...although its quite easy to see the change - I don't know why now that it has come so many want to think its a conspiracy.

The only reason I thought it came from above was because of RAC stating Mon. morning that DA was still the starter. And of course idiots like Dilfer.

Also I think you are totally off base with the Mo thing.

Again so you state a very sincere person like RAC only LIES about the Big Important things? Like about the Mo Thing and now about the switch of QB???

So RAC is just a Rah, Rah guy for Randy and Savage like Switzer was for Jones...a puppet.

I really don't think so. If this was shoved down his throat. RAC will resign at the seasons end or maybe even sooner.

JMHO - but hey guess what. Maybe RAC ain't a Bold face LIAR. Maybe our Owner who don't have a clue about football didn't DEMAND THIS. It just might be cause the OFFENSE under DA simply SUCKED! can it be that simple?

Nothing is that simple...there must be "plans" and "lies"..."conspirancies"....."who really made the call".

Guys in black suits and cheesy sunglasses...

I think your right...the more I hear on the radio...it was RAC, and its as simple as DA was too inconsistent.

I don't think RAC any choice other than to go along or quit in protest.

I am not even sure Savage had much say so in the deal, and wouldn't say much because I think he is beginning to worry about salvaging his own position.

Several things tend to help me think it was his decision..I'm not totally buying it but until I hear otherwise(and I have asked several people who said nothing contrary) I will go with that..
.
“I wanted to talk to the players before I informed anybody else. I talked to Anderson first, then Quinn.
“D.A … He was disappointed but he’s a professional … he’ll handle it. He’ll deal with it.
“It’s my decision. I informed the organization what I was thinking. They told me it was my decision and they would back whatever decision I made. I feel like I have the organization’s backing.”

Those remarks do make it sound like it came from Rac ..

“It’ll be a little tough on Denver to do all their homework on Quinn. A lot of times teams just carry some of the basic things from the last game forward into the next game.”
“The crowd will definitely be for (Quinn). That should lift him up a little bit.”

That lends me to feel that this being a home game and short week weighed heavily on the decision.

I tend to agree with U that it was RAC's decison ... cause i trust RAC and think he is a stand up guy .... but I also know he is a team guy ... so I do not expect him to throw BQ under the bus and say he was forced on him .. that would not be good for anyone .. so I believe RAC is a stand up guy .. but also know he HAD TO SAY THIS at this point ...

i am still well on the fence with this one .. and want more info .. LIKE TO SEE HOW THINGS PLAY OUT ..

no way am I on the it was forced down his throat crew either ...

my gut says we will never know the real truth on this one .. well maybe we will .... and we all ready have it .. I am just not smart enough or see enough reasons to doubt what were hearing is the truth .... so i may just never feel real comfie with what were being told is or was the truth as this plays out ...

Spin Master ... ya .. thats U TOAD ... u got a link to the presser ... please post it for this puter illeterate moron ... I;d like to see/here this one ..

this way i can deciher what he said for myself as opposed to rely on the spin masters interp of it .. *L* ..

thanks bro ...

And I'm saying it's academic. It's a done deal whether all the coaches and players, fans and media or whoever agree or disagree. Like the decision, don't like it, it doesn't matter. It's done.

I'm beginning to believe that, yes.

It's all conspiracy theory crap Eo, but I found it HIGHLY curious that Savage would give RAC an extension after a 10-6 record against a bunch of sorry teams, not very long after Savage had to clean out the coaches that RAC wanted to bring in.

It stinks Eo, it stinks.

Besides, what else could RAC say? That he wasn't on board with the decision? That the call was made by Savage so he was executing the call?

Nah, I can't buy it man.

As I'd said over and over weeks ago, Quinn would get his shot. I just think it's happening one week too soon.

I don't know how you read the words and conclude it was his decision?

I am sure people let him say he took credit.

Here is a possible conversation.

Lerner: Phil...I am telling you to start Quinn on Thursday. If Romeo won't make the change, fire him and you make the change. If you don't, you're gone too and I will make the switch through whoever I appoint as interim.

Is that clear??

Savage: Very clear Mr. Lerner.

I don't think the above hypothesis is so far fetched or that far from a actual conversation that could have taken place in the owners booth late in the game.

Have you known Rac to just lie about a situation?

He's pretty straightforward..I listened to part of that spot presser and posted the quoted words..
He said it was time for a change..it didn't sound like someone was putting words in his mouth.
BTW I thought you let others talk about conspiracy theories??

Look, before someone starts to put words into my mouth (Pit ) I'm not saying RAC is being overruled by anyone, or that he still backs Anderson unconditionally.

What I am saying is that he isn't the one making all the decisions, and that Savage probably sat down with him and encouraged the move.

This just didn't happen overnight. Anderson has been on very thin ice for weeks. The move was nearly inevitable once we had all those issues in camp and came out of the gates with a thud. Nobody is saying RAC was behind Anderson and was overruled.

The way this went down leaves the door open to all kinds of speculation.

My thought before this was announced was: if Romeo did not go to Savage and say " I want to start Quinn" then he would drive the nail into his own demise.

Savage drafted Quinn. It was his signature move. However, if Savage had to go to Romeo and tell him to start Quinn; then he would know for sure that he would have to fire Romeo. Possible before the season ended. Which from Savage's view point would not be what he wants to do.

Now for face value Romeo appears to be calling his own shots.

Toad, my inner self says this was not his call but we will never know.

The question now is does Anderson remain as a backup? I doubt that. What is Anderson's market value now? Could he bring a second rounder?

Anderson for some clubs would be worth a gamble. He is young. He has talent. Hard to predict his future. The big question with him is will he develop?
Will he learn and grow or is what we've seen from him what he is?

Well eo, I heard Cribbs interviewed on ESPN. His take?
( And I'm paraphrasing here )

Is that the locker room was kind of surprised and shocked by the news.

Then he went on to say that Quinn isn't a guy who wows you in practice. But under the lights, on the field, he's a gamer. That he finds a way or somehow manages to make things happen.

Now I believe you can look at those comments as the glass being half full or half empty, depending on one's perspective. But I have first hand experience in what he means about a guy being a "gamer". And there are many players that would fall into such a category.

I can only go by the comments I heard Cribbs make. But IF the rest of the team agrees with his comments, then I think that alone would establish that they believe in Quinn.

That they believe he is the kind of QB who can "make things happen". And I believe that if that is a shared sentiment among the players, it will translate on the field in how they play. At least that's my utmost hopes.

Who made the call? I have no idea.

What I do believe is that many scenarios could have played out this year at the QB position. And all of those scenarios hinged upon how DA played and progressed.

Bad or good? I think it's good. If and when management believes the major components that it takes to make a franchise QB are missing and you have a very talented alternative at your disposal, it's time to move forward.

And one thing I do KNOW, is that the NFL is a business first. Not that the concept thrills me, but that is the nature of the beast. Whether this was strictly a business decision? I have no idea.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

For what it's worth, here's Schefter's word on the changing of QB. Not that he has an inside line to whose call it was. Besides, if Quinn does lite it up on Thursday night. Who cares whose call it was?

Here's Schefter's blog:

Adam Schefter
Was Anderson the problem in Cleveland?

Posted: November 4th, 2008 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Cleveland Browns, Derek Anderson

The more time there is to sift through the numbers, the more confounding it is that the Browns benched quarterback Derek Anderson for Brady Quinn.

In an earlier posting, we compared Anderson of this year to Anderson of last year. Those numbers told one story. But the more revealing story comes from these numbers.

During the Browns first four games this season, Anderson posted a 54.1 passer rating.

During the Browns past four games this season, Anderson posted an 88.8 passer rating.

The Browns struggles have more to do with their defense than their offense. In Cleveland’s three wins, the defense has allowed an average of 14 points per game. In Cleveland’s five losses, the defense has allowed an average of 24 points per game.

If the team were going to bench Anderson, the optimum time to do it would have been earlier in the season, when the quarterback’s performance warranted it.

Numbers show time is right for Quinn

Posted: November 4th, 2008 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns, Derek Anderson

From the moment word leaked that Brady Quinn was replacing Derek Anderson as the Browns starting quarterback, there have been debates about whether Cleveland made the right decision. The numbers tell one story. Take a look at Anderson’s numbers this year compared to last year, when he threw the fifth-most touchdown passes in the NFL and was voted to the Pro Bowl. And by the way, Anderson’s 68.9 passer rating now ranks him 31st in the NFL.:
Derek Anderson (as a starter) 2007 2008
W-L 10-5 3-5
Comp. Pct. 57.1 49.8
Pass YPG 240.2 181.8
TD-INT 28-18 9-7
Passer rating 83.4 68.9

I'm not a fan of Schefter's, and his opinion is only one of many, but that angle is the same one I'm coming from: Anderson was improving, and this move is coming at the wrong time.

As B and myself had stated weeks ago, Quinn would be the guy once the playoffs were out of reach simply because we had to know what we had in him. However, the timing of the move is suspect.

It better work, because if we lose, RAC is going to have his arse handed to him on a platter, and rightfully so.

Anderson hints Crennel did not act alone

Nov 4th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm by Steve Doerschuk

Derek Anderson was thoughtful and more open than he normally is in the wake of getting benched. He kept his sense of humor while conveying a measure of pain.

Anderson said:

“I expect a lot more from myself. It took me a little bit by shock.”

(Did he get a fair shake?)
“I’m behind Romeo 100 percent. He’s a great man. I respect him for that and everything he’s done for me.”

(Does Anderson think this was solely a coaching decision?)
“Like I said, I respect Romeo Crennel and what he’s done. That’s as far as I’m gonna go with that.”

“We’re 3-5. In this league, it’s a bottom-line thing. RAC has always told us that. You’ve gotta win, and that’s how things go. A lot of times it goes to the quarterback. I understand that. I expect Brady to go out and play well.”

(On not getting help on some key plays)
“You just keep playing, keep going, keep giving guys opportunities. I give these guys in here all the credit in the world. I love ‘em. I’m gonna keep throwing balls to those guys. Eventually everybody’s gonna start making plays. It’s just a matter of time. You don’t tuck it and run it.”

(Does Anderson want to stay in Cleveland?)
“I love playing football. I love the guys in the locker room. That’s the reason I came back here. It wasn’t about anything else. It was more about playing with these guys, having fun with ‘em. They’re my guys.”

(On pressure)
“I understood when I re-signed here there would be a lot of pressure to succeed and do what we did last season. I knew it. All summer, I prepared for it. I knew it was gonna happen. I’m not saying I knew this was gonna happen. I knew the pressure was gonna be there to win games.

“We go 10-6 last year. The pressure’s gonna be there to win more games. Unless you win the Super Bowl, you haven’t done anything.”

(Is it tougher because Anderson thought he was playing better lately?)
“Yeah. Obviously, I felt like I played poorly in the first couple of weeks. I’d be the first to tell you guys that. But I felt like I’ve been doing some good things, we were starting to come around. But it’s a team game. I can only control what I can control.”

(Tough going from a 14-point lead to getting benched?)
“Obviously it’s tough, you know …. getting your job taken away from you, as it would be tough for somebody to take your job away from you. And it means a lot to me. I put a lot of effort into it.”

(What Anderson said to Quinn after the move)
“I told him I was behind him. Whatever help he needs from me … I expect him to go out there and play well. Everybody in this locker room will rally with him and make plays for him. I know he expects that for himself.”

“I’m obviously a little frustrated, but I love these guys in this locker room and there’s nothing I can do about it other than help them any way I can. I’m a captain of this team. I’ll stay focused and make sure we keep working.”

(On playing again in 2008)
“I’ll stay ready. Romeo said just stay ready. And I will. I did the same thing for the first 2 1/2 years I was here. Prepared and got a chance against Kansas City and went in and played pretty well. If that situation arises then I’ll be ready to go.”

- Someone asked Braylon Edwards if he felt some responsibility for Anderson’s demise?

“What kind of question is that?” Edwards said.

Anderson went on to say he obviously didn’t want to drop the bomb Sunday, but there was nothing he can do about it now aside from catching the next one.

I'm not really sure where the "hint" comes from, IMO.

Quinn plays it cool

Nov 4th, 2008 @ 2:06 pm by Steve Doerschuk

Derek Anderson left his locker stall. Brady Quinn walked in.
“Just another work week for us,” the new No. 1 QB said. “No change. A lot of stuff to get in today and tomorrow before the game.”

It’s just that he’ll need a helmet to process the stuff when the game rolls around.

“I guess in some ways I was surprised,” Quinn said.
In some ways, then, he wasn’t.

“The biggest thing for us right now is to try to get on the same page right now with routes and different things with the wide receivers.”

(Quinn’s chat with Derek Anderson)
“Obviously I feel tough for him. We talked about it. I was upset for him. I think a lot of people see this as more of a business, but there’s definitely friendships that extend way off the field. He’s like family to me. It’s tough to see him go through that and see him treated the way he was here.”

(We’re guessing Quinn was referring to Anderson getting skewered by fans. We have no inkling that Quinn thinks coaches didn’t give D.A. a fair shake.)

That said, Quinn understands how fans think, and he is asking a little favor.)
“We know how big our crowd factors in against opposing teams, and helps us. A lot off times our fans don’t feel how big a help they are, giving us energy.”

(Was it a sleepless night?)
“Yes. There’s a lot of preparation, especially in a game with such a short week. If you have to sacrifice somewhere I guess that’s sleep and eating a little bit. I wasn’t here that late, but I was at home watching a lot of film.”

(What Anderson told Quinn)
“He said he’s behind me. That’s obviously something you want to here. I think that’s something I always told him.”
(His first start since a bowl game in 2006 as a Notre Dame senior)
“It’s been a little while (smiling). It’s gonna be fun to go back out there. Obviously I’m excited. The main thing is remaining calm and not getting too excited.”

(Quinn didn’t play last year until getting 10 snaps in the season finale; he said then he felt like he had cement feet.)
“It was cold out there, man.”

(New energy for the offense?)
“It doesn’t change up the dynamic. All quarterbacks are different. We bring something different to the table.”

(Some teammates said they were surprised by the change.)
“The way things work in this league is, you know your role and do your job. My preparation was as if I was going to be the starter. Now I actually am, so it’s a little different because you get more reps but other than that I’m still watching a ton of film, doing everything physically I can to be ready.”

(Where can Quinn take this team in eight games?)
“I’m not looking at eight games. I’m looking at a game.”

(OK, where can he take it Thursday night?)
“Hopefully a win. That’s what we’re working for, right?”

What someone should have said was "How does it feel knowing that if there was someone worthwhile available, you'd be riding the pine for a little while, too?"

No doubt the timing smells like 3-day old fish. But at 3-5 and 1-3 in the division at what point do we consider ourselves done? If Quinn comes out and lites it up on Thursday, it potentially gives this team some hope for the future and potentially this year. However, if he stinks it up on Thursday then people will say he wasn't given enough time to prepare for the starting position and all of the people calling this a knee jerk reaction will say 'See, I told you so!" But I don't buy that. He's been given one and a half year to prepare for this. It hasn't been a short week for Quinn, it's been 18 months.

Wasn't getting rid of Frye last year after week #1 a knee jerk reaction and a so-called bad move by our Front Office?

I for one, certainly don't put all of the blame on Anderson as he was improving. Just wasn't consistent enough. I think that's why Crennel made the switch.

I have too many thoughts on this subject right now and it feels like I'm just rambling. Not sure what to think. Hard to believe I'm still a fan of this organization. But have always been a fan of Savage and his moves to make this team better. I just expect better results.

No he wasn't improving...he was still blowing it anytime there was any significance on the game to be played. We KNOW what he is capable of. We don't expect it week in and week out. But what we do expect is a little consistancy. And the ONLY thing consistant with Derek is that if there is any significance on the game about to be played...he tanks. If the pressure is off he will play lights out. The Giants game is a perfect example. we were 0-3 going up against the World Champs who were wrecking through everyone. No one gave us a chance..so if we lost...who cares....we were expected to lose. So no pressure to win...Derek outplays Manning. But as soon as the game means something. Boom Flacco outplays Derek.

And frankly this improvement you speak of isn't good enough. Improvement from what???? Certainly not last year. We needed him to play better.

OK enough of that that isn't exactly what this thread is about....

My first thoughts are that this came from above...This all seems to be happenig too quickly with the short week and it seems out of Crennels usually methodical and careful aproach to things. So if this is Crennels move it had to be coming for some time. This decision was not made spur of the moment. Crennell just doesn't do that. You have to get a crowbar for him to let a rookie play or make a change....And so if the order did come from above....it just cut his legs out from under him. And we "officially" have a lame duck coach.

But if lets suppose it is Crennels decision. First as someone stated earlier...I have never known him to outright lie to the media. He will talk around an issue and basically tell you nothing...but I have never known him to outright lie. Next...if this is his decision, it makes me think that he picked this game because of several reasons.

#1 it is an easier defense in the schedule.

#2 Its at home for the support of the crowd.

#3 After this game he has 11 days to prepare for Buffalo.

#4 at 3-5 and 1-3 in the division our season is all but over(not mathematically and not completely) so the pressure in this next game is far reduced...we could expect Derek to light it up and it would be a few more weeks before he could make this move again. Again you have to assume he has made his decision to switch so now he is looking for "when" not "if" he is going to switch.

#5 its not too late

The Browns struggles have more to do with their defense than their offense. In Cleveland’s three wins, the defense has allowed an average of 14 points per game. In Cleveland’s five losses, the defense has allowed an average of 24 points per game.

This kind of statistical manipulation ticks me off.. in the 2 of the Browns 5 losses, the defense gave up 10 and 14 points... in one other loss the other team scored 28 but the offense gave up half of it.

And in 4 of the Browns 5 losses, the offense scored 10, 6, 10, and 11.... why doesn't he mention THAT? Oh right, because the defense is responsible for those losses... what an idiot.

This guy has a point to make and he's not above letting facts get in the way of making it.

What a piece of garbage.

KNR played a bit of it..
Brayless was saying that it was Rac 's decision and they support Quinn..and really who cares?
That one caught my attention..
When he was asked about his performance..he then said somethign to the effect of :''yeah I shoulda caught ut but even if I did would it stop DA from having the pick later"..or something to that effect..

He seriously said that? I mean, seriously? If he did, wow.

Wow, sounds like he's throwing Anderson under the bus!

I would love to be a mouse in the locker room right now. See what BE's reaction to all this is. Maybe this move puts more pressure on him to perform. I remember that at the beginning of the year when he was training with Michael Phelps and he said he was going to get twice the TD's that Phelps does medals and then added one saying he was going to get 17 TD's. I was pissed. That's a TO type of statement. There's no room for arrogance on this team. They've accomplished nothing since he's been here.

I'll bet Denver is licking it's chops to come in to Cleveland on Thursday night.

look at the wild card teams ... NONE OF THEM ARE VERY GOOD AT ALL .... not a single one ... and our schedule lightens up considerably right now ... our next 3 games are very very winnable

Right there might be the answer, Diam.

Think about it- if ever the was a time to make an in-season switch this might have been it. The schedule gives BQ the best chance to get on a roll... along with the team. PLUS- teams won't have tape on him, and he could be the benefactor of the same phenomenon that (seemed) to help Derek last year.

If Quinn manages to close out the year looking at least competent and reliable, it will be because of the lighter schedule. He'll have had close to a half-season of true NFL experience going into next year, and it will be fairly representative of what he'll face next year. Playing well here could bode well for him next year.

I do however think that making the switch singnalled that the admin was willin to look at a playoff berth/run as a bonus, with getting a jumpstart on next year being the main underlying theme.

It sure would make headlines if this kid could start pulling out wins like we had last year, tho.

just another supposition...

Have you known Rac to just lie about a situation?

He's pretty straightforward..I listened to part of that spot presser and posted the quoted words..
He said it was time for a change..it didn't sound like someone was putting words in his mouth.
BTW I thought you let others talk about conspiracy theories??

GMAB man...we are all talking about the unknown.

No...I don't know that RAC has lied just as you don't know he hasn't unless you work in Berea with the guy or he calls you at the house a few times a week. Has RAC ever called your house to chat?.

All you can do is look at the situation, put it in terms of what you or I may have experienced in our life and come to some sort of conclusion based of what has happened, how it happened, and relate it to things we have seen and experienced.

Cut the crap and talk straight up for a change.

You can't tell me with a straight face what I am saying is preposterous.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I didn't hear Braylon say anthing about DA throwing the pick. He did say he should have caught the ball though.

It was so out of character for coach Romeo Crennel to change quarterbacks that the prevailing perception is that the switch to Brady Quinn was mandated from above.
"Nobody saw it coming," said linebacker Willie McGinest, who knows Crennel better than any of the Browns. "It's a decision somebody decided to make, or a collective group decided to make. It is what it is."

Asked if he felt it was strictly a coach's decision, deposed starter Derek Anderson said, "I respect Romeo and what he's done, and that's as far as I want to go with that."

Yet Crennel and General Manager Phil Savage insist it was Crennel's choice to begin the Quinn era with the Browns struggling at 3-5.

"I felt we needed a different dynamic on the offense. That's why I made the decision," Crennel said. "Some of the things that had to do with it was our record, offensive ranking and offensive production.

"Some people have talked about the timing [compressed by a Thursday night game]. Well, I don't think the short week had anything to do with it. It was just time. So I did it and we're going forward.

"We're not throwing in the towel, not giving up on the season. We're going to beat Denver, that's what we're going to do."

A lot of the perception is based on Crennel initially telling media shortly before noon on Monday that he didn't plan a change at quarterback. He did qualify it a bit by saying Anderson was the starter "as of right now."

According to a source, Crennel already had met with Savage on Monday morning and the two men did discuss the negative reaction fans had to Anderson's interception that sealed a 37-27 loss to Baltimore. It was mentioned by Savage that the fans could jump on Anderson hard if the quarterback had a slow start Thursday night against Denver.

Crennel said he wanted to discuss the quarterback situation with his coaches before making a final decision. The source said that offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski "was disappointed" in Crennel's thinking, but neither he nor Rip Scherer, quarterbacks coach, attempted to dissuade Crennel.

Al Behrman/Associated Press
Brady Quinn, with Browns quarterback coach Rip Scherer, earlier this season. "We're not throwing in the towel, not giving up on the season," said head coach Romeo Crennel. "We're going to beat Denver, that's what we're going to do." Crennel then met with Savage later and announced he was making the switch.
"It was Romeo's call," Savage said. "He's in charge of the 45 [game-day roster]. I have no problems with it. I told Romeo I could argue either way. I told him I'll stand behind him on it."

After the team tripped over lofty expectations and failed to climb out of the hole it dug, the eventual insertion of Quinn was a decision nearing the front burner. Some in the organization felt the loss to Baltimore was the catalyst for change.

"We've been talking about this for a while now," Crennel said of the almost-weekly questions about Anderson's job status. "Usually I try to be pretty thorough about what I do in evaluating things. I just felt it was time."

Crennel did not buy the argument that Anderson had been playing better in three wins in five games after opening the season with three losses.

"The play was inconsistent, as the record indicates," the coach said. "We're an inconsistent football team. I've told you all along, the supporting cast impacts Derek's play. But he's the quarterback and along with that position comes added responsibility and added scrutiny. It's part of the job and he'll live with it and he'll go on."

Crennel disputed the national perception that the decision was driven by Quinn's immense popularity with the fans.

"Generally, I don't think they have my telephone number," he said. "I haven't been fielding calls from the fans. I made the decision, what I think is best and what I think needs to be done."

One of the outspoken critics of the move has been ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer, the former Browns quarterback who shares the same agent as Anderson.

Dilfer called the Browns a "dysfunctional organization" and said, "It's a knee-jerk reaction by the owner to fill seats."

Through club spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz, owner Randy Lerner responded, "Trent Dilfer running his mouth about a past employer doesn't merit a serious response."

something is happening to rac and he's changing in front of us. i don't know what is causing it and i don't even know if i like it. i don't know if it's stress or outside pressures but it feels like he's taking more ownership of the team. the "we're going to beat denver, and that's what we're going to do" thing is very anti-rac but maybe that's what we need.

i think it's surprising to hear that neither chud nor scherer were on board with the decision. too bad they didn't want to stick their necks out for something they believed. maybe it shows a lack in confidence in both qbs, i don't know. i've experienced all the possible emotions in these couple of days. first disappointment, then excitement, then remorse, then sympathy, and now i'm just plain confused. something doesn't sit right in all of this. but i do know this, i loooove the nfl

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Trent....glad to see Randy addressing Trents crusade to smeer the Browns. He was on 2 radio shows today, pounding the Browns FO and Staff.

The article is pure speculation...and it does back up the fact that this was RAC and Phils call....we have no definitive statements from anybody that is upset that the Browns benched DA.

Its all speculation...and reading into things...alot of "supposedly" and "they think" or "might have".

BQ is the guy, for many reasons, this is not some big overblown conspiracy as the media wants us to beleive. Its pretty simple when logic is used.

Simple, straight-forward, and right on.

The Derek Anderson Experiment is over. Long live the Brady Quinn Era.

I could care less what Chud or anyone else thinks. GAME PLAN for the Broncos and lets get this show rolling..... I just hope Chud doesn't hold Quinn back w/ the play calling.

Give him the slants. Give him the curls. And make sure you USE the Play Action!! Let him move the team up the field.

Toad I don't know, somehow I have faith that people are honest. At least with sports. You can smell the BS. This is not clear cut. But I do see what you mean. As in RAC...MAKE THE CHANGE! Ok, but I'll do it my way...and then proceeded to say nothing to the media cause he wanted to speak to DA n BQ and then the team first.

Except I think his team could smell through the BS....just like I think they would have smelled through the MO stuff if what was said was BS. I think he COULD NOT HAVE THE RESPECT he does from the team if he was a puppet. NOBODY RESPECTED SWITZER, nobody.

Everyone respects RAC...I think he's his own man - maybe it was a meeting of the minds and after knocking heads they came to an agreement??? I don't know how it worked.

Pitt...as I have stated before. There are Game Day players and there are Practice players. DA always came off to me as a practice player cause I heard the gaga and me...only saw the games and they just weren't the one in the same.

BE not too long ago, I think in our bye was asked about BQ and he gushed about how when he's in the huddle you know he is in charge and that everyone respects him as a leader.

There is no doubt in my mind that the players believed in DA...no doubt, especially OLmen...those guys will love any and every QB they play for...lol

Fargo... "The Browns struggles have more to do with their defense than their offense. In Cleveland’s three wins, the defense has allowed an average of 14 points per game. In Cleveland’s five losses, the defense has allowed an average of 24 points per game."

Not quite...just a guy who hasn't watched our games and going through the numbers and think he's made a revelation about our team.

5 losses average 24 points. But how of those points came from DA's INT's - I remember in Ravens game one at least 14 points not really at the fault of the Defense maybe more. And Ravens game 2 there was the pick 6 to make it 37.

Also we had them held to 13 points till we went into the prevent OFFENSE...20 points, 27 points as the TOP was way into the Ravens court. The Prevent offense was stupid cause they acted (CHUD/RAC) like we were the team with a big TOP and that the Ravens D would tire...Our D has kept us in the game.

Dallas forget about it. We were a mess that game.

Steelers 10-6 D didn't lose it. Ravens 28...DA had 4 INTs??? how many points did that play into it.

Redskins...forgot the score but I remember the D played well. And now this one.

Statistically our Defense looks bad - that is cause we get tired and start giving up big chunks of ground but we keep them to FGs in a lot of occasions. I'm not saying our D is awesome...far from it. But not the culprit...Its been the O in our losses. Pure and simple OUR OFFENSE!

Btw- Thank you dawgs for the participation of this thread...and sharing all the articles. Actually this is how I remember EVERY THREAD being on the board once upon a time. But thanks for the good discussion. DA is a good guy and a trooper he knows RAC was in his corner. BQ is a good kid too. I just hope somebody will smack him real hard right before the game so he can relax a little...lol
