I was watching highlight film of him, and I know highlight film is just that...highlights, that's EXACTLY who he reminded me of.

We need that. Especially considering I don't think Beau Bell has that sort of speed.

Is it becoming obvious that I'm annoyed with DQ right now? Too small to blitz or play in a 3-4, too slow to be a 4-3 Will Linebacker. All he has is "instinct."

he's the kind of player that offenses will have to game plan around...

who on our defense right now do teams worry about when they set their game plan up?

rogers? absolutely, but if you stick 2 guys on him, while he's done his job, they know that nobody else will take advantage of that.

but nobody else gets attention. they know what wimbley is, they know the other linebackers are slow and undisciplined. and they know, while our secondary can play well, they are susceptable to poor tackling as well as going for the pick instead of the sure tackle.

why not "what if i was lerner"?

#1. Staff. if there is a possibility to bring in cowher or holmgren you have to try to get him. if they can't get along with savage or phil has to take a reduced role so be it.

outside of those two guys... i don't know if changing HC would be an upgrade. aquiring a first-rate qb coach for quinn would be a priority. mooch comes to mind for OC.

i want a better DC. first interview question being, "what do you think about the prevent D?" when i see prevent barring a hail mary situation i just want to puke. love to get rob ryan in here to compete with his brother twice a year.

#2 medical facilities. as the owner of the franchise i would go to just about any lengths to eradicate the ongoing staph problem. it has hurt this team more than any other single thing. put in a janitorial staff that will sterilize everything every day. whirlpools, benches, laundry, equipment, practice turf, everything.

as far as player changes, thats going to depend in a large part on who is running the team next year. obviously this team needs a MLB, and a pass rusher. those are the top two draft priorities, after that there could be debate about needs. FS, DL, WR, RB, G, CB in no particular order.

there are guys that will need to go. personally i'd trade braylon and DA for calvin johnson and a third. winslow i'd hate to lose, maybe give him an incentive based contract. if he really wanted out i think he's worth a 2nd.

eh, hopefully we win out, squeeze in at 10-6, run the table and bring a trophy to cleveland. got at least 8 more days to dream about that.

Excellent thoughts....

The DA trade is simple...I think he will bring a 2nd rounder.

I would also throw the Edwards name out there...That too would bring a 2nd rounder or better...

It is a big change, but in the whole scheme...we can gain more than we lose....receivers come open all the time in FA....get one of them if we can't draft one.

In this next draft, we need a center and guard....and the 2nd round is a good time to pluck those guys...Sign a impact backer and or draft one...add a corner....

I would like a new back, but we have to cross our fingers Harrison is ready for a full load.

I say full load because I would expect Lewis to be the back-up...he;s done as a 20 carry a game player.....but he will make a nice 5-10 carry a game player....or goalline player much like Tennessee uses White on the 5 in.

I see you are following my thought. IMO.. we sign the backer and draft the cover. I think we would be much farther ahead in the learning curve gap.. an experienced backer helps us right the Bleep now.

Another thing we all need to remember is that our guards may need some looking at.. Tucker is having some health issues and I'm not comforted by the depth behind Tuck and Steiny. And as long as I am looking at the OL.. Shaffer could use some serious competition for the job.

If we can get the DL healthy, I actually think we aren't too bad there. Rogers has been a blessing for us.. if I could get ahold of the guy, I'd invite him over to bless the turkey and help me eat it in a coupla weeks.

The strength and the point of having a 34 is the LB's. I've been screaming about them for some time now.. I get PM's / and posts chewing me out for saying Willie has been stealing his paycheck since he's been here and honestly, RAC and the FO blew it when they brought him here.

In all this time, we could have used his roster spot to bring along a young, upcoming and promising linebacker that could have blossomed into the D leader we all wanted. If people wanted Willie for a mentor.. fine.. put him on the sidelines as a asst LB coach and let him mentor to hearts content. His paycheck has amounted to outright robbery.

Trade Braylon for a first rounder. If Detroit can get as much as they got for Roy Williams, we should be able to get a first rounder for Braylon.

Sign T.J Houshmanzadeh, he is a sure handed, tough receiver, and doesn't complain. He is a pro.

I don't know our cap situation, but we need to sign either Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott, or James Farrior. If we are going to stay in the 3-4 we need two new linebackers this offseason. Ideally one from the draft and one via free agency. I would take any of these 3. They all have experience in the 3-4, and they all are very good LB's.

Draft the best LB available in the first round. I would love to get Ray Malaluga, but he might be gone by the time we pick. If he is...get the best LB there.

Assuming we have a second first round pick (Braylon trade) draft either a RB, WR, or CB...whoever is highest on our draft board.

I think everyone agrees that the majority of our draft picks should be defensive players, but I still hope we continue to address the offensive line...preferably a right guard, but a right tackle would be just as good. We can improve at both of those postions on the o-line. I am not saying we need to draft someone who can play right away, but someone who can step in if needed, and can start for us a year or two down the line.

As far as the head coaching position goes...I am in favor of giving RAC one more year. We need continuity. I would hate overhaul the coaching staff when we will be going into the third year of Chuds sytem. We need some consitancy there. However, after this offseason there will be no more excuses. It will be put up or shut up time.

Housh is the top WR in the 2009 FA class. Guy is solid all around. Just needs a haircut.

I would take him and his hair over Braylon and his attitude any day. Trade Braylon, sign Housh. WR problem solved.

If I were Phil Savage, I'd spend a little time checking on flight availability to some particular island for about a week of solid drinking as soon as this season ends. He needs to go someplace with no telecommunications industry and where the price of beer is inversely related to the size of the cockroaches. You apply the cockroach to beer formula so you can afford to hire a staff of locals whose responsibility it is to keep you from getting thrown in a volcano or something. Sand, surf, and a local to keep bringing drinks. His job would make me completely insane.

We need line backers. We need a legitimate #1 receiver. We need linebackers. We need a bit of depth on the O Line. We need linebackers. Oh, and what's that guy called who wears the headset on the sidelines and tries not to laugh when everyone screws up so hard it looks like "The Longest Yard" out there? Oh, yeah, a head coach, haven't had one of them for a while so maybe it's time to shop around a bit. We also need linebackers.

WR position is not solved by signing TJ...he is what he is because of the presence of Ocho Cinco. Im not saying he isnt a great player, but not a number one.

He doesnt demand safety help like Chad or BE...hes a possesion WR, similar to JJ...but will not pick up the slack that losing BE would bring.

Taking Braylon off this offense would severely cripple it...I know hes dropping passes and hes been a big issue. But what most fans dont see is the double coverage he demands and his blocking downfield. Both were key against Denver...hes the reason BQ had KW2 and Stallworth open underneath.

You cannot trade BE...you will not get equal value in return...the hope is a new coach can get him in gear, or the presence of BQ will help him.

A new leader in Quinn might really help BE.....but trading BE only appeases the fans and only hurts our offense.

You cant just get rid of a guy when you have no have no viable backup or if you dont get proper compensation in return...the BE situation is a ISSUE...but not a PROBLEM as so many want to preach.

We would be stupid to dump BE, unless we can get a replacement that has similar abilities.

You and 'Peen.........handslappin'........hysterical!

Ok..................IF I were Savage...............

The year is over and the team went flat the last month of the year.

Crennel, thanks for the efforts, but you're not the answer. Here's a Rolex, the lump-sum left on your contract that I fOOlishly gave you, and a two-year's paid membership to Jenny Craig. (PPSSTT!! TAKE THE HINT!!!)

I'm interviewing veteran head coaches who are willing to share the draft duties with me. Some will balk at the fact I have control over the draft, but I'll be able to sell them on the fact that I'll defer to them on certain decisions. I did it for RAC, I'll do it for them as well.

Sadly, I can't find 3-4 OLB's, so I gotta scrap the system. After several seasons, I still can't find guys that fit what I want to do. After looking over the roster, the only shot I have to save my gig and the team is to switch back to the 4-3. There's just more players available for that scheme than the one I'm running. Personel moves will be dependent on who I can land, but Davis becomes someone's stopgap, veteran minimum guy, and Wimbley will be moved to OLB, but I allready know it won't work. He's going to be my 3rd-down rush-specialist until his contract runs out. Jackson becomes my ILB, unless Bell can prove to be a 1-down starter in the middle, or if Karlos Dansby is foolishly let go by the Cards.

On offense.........Anderson has to go. Crennel (without my urging *wink*) has made the move to Quinn, and though I'd like to keep Derek as insurance, that simply doesn't work, and we need help at other positions. Enough teams are interested that I might be able to squeeze a future 1st rounder (2010) or 2nd rounder (2009) for him. It'll be important to have a veteran QB who can step in if called upon since, theorhetically, the goal is now the playoffs. However, he can't be good enough to challenge for the job. I'm thinking a Todd Collins/Gus Ferrotte type.

I have to move Winslow or Edwards. They both can't stay. Too much ego, not enough lockerroom space or oxygen. Since he called me out, Winslow gets the boot. He's only got so many snaps left in those knees, and frankly, I'm tired of dealing with his agent because there's no way in HELL I'm giving that jackass a new contract.

Stallworth gets his 5th team next year. Thanks for nothin'. Housh is gonna get a call from me saying "How'd you like the chance to beat the [censored] out of those idiots twice a year for the next five?"

Signed, sealed, and delivered.

I'll have to decide what other pieces I can plug in during free agency, but there won't be more than one high-dollar guy on offense. Defense is what wins championships, and we need defense.

Going into the draft, I'm looking defense, defense, defense. I gotta get guys who can get to the QB, because if I can't, it won't matter who I break the bank for back there.

It's just too soon to predict how things will play out, other than to say the Bengals are both too stOOpid AND too cheap to pay Housh.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

I we could get a 1st and 3rd for him I would trade him. Pitt won the super bowl after letting Plax go the previous offeseason. They had a posession receiver in ward, and a 3rd down reciever in randel el as their guys.new england never had great receivers when they won their 3 super bowls. We could win without him if we get the right compensation.

I would look at grabbing housh as well. And I would trade both Winslow and Edwards, as well as DA

I don't know about bringing in ex-head coaches how someone who failed somewhere else needs to be recycled. Granted Cowher or Mooch looks promising but will Cowher have the same fire to win here that he did in Pittsburgh, and will Mooch be able to replicate what he did and San Fran? I'm not sure and would like to here some arguments. (I have an open mind)
What about hiring someone who CAN become a head coach who also has the desire to achieve that which they have yet to achieve. (Russ Grimm? Rick Dennison?) Just tossing some names out there . . .

As for draft . . . my wishlist not knowing if we are going to be a 3-4 or 4-3 or doing any extensive research like some of you . . .
Ray Maualuga
Malcolm Jenkins
Chris Wells
Brandon Spikes
Brian Cushing
Clint Sintim
Patrick Chung
Herman Johnson
Travis Beckum (TE though I'd bet he can play WR)

And someone to cough up there seats in the lower sections . . . I get nauseous sitting in the nose bleeds

I'm somewhat amused and somewhat saddened by the posts on here. There a few thoughtful ones, but other than that...

If you wer Phil Savage, you would change to a 4-3? So, you are going to handcuff the new head coach many are saying they're bringing in by telling him what coaching philosophy to use. Yeah, that will get a quality coach in here. Jerry Jones style of hiring.

Many have said they'd trade BE and KW2 and sign TJ. TJ is a posession type receiver. You want a JJ style (though faster) as your #1? Ummmm, right. If you trade BE, you need a legitimate #1 receiver. TJ is great but feeds off of Chad Johnson getting the focus of opposing teams.

I read somewhere in all thi that we make KW2 a WR. The guy can't line up on the field correctly or run the right routes at a position he's played his ENTIRE LIFE, but we are going to put him in a new position and watch him flourish? Add to that the biggest asset he has is speed against LBs and now you line him up wher he is slower than the defenders. Hmmmm, that has success written all over it.

Bring in Bilick, who floundered at finding a QB and won a Super Bowl based on the defensive genius of his DC and the talent on the defensive side of the ball. Bring in Marty and get bounced the first year of the playoffs and that is going forward toward a Super Bowl? Bring in Mooch who hasn't won ANYTHING and all fo a sudden we are on the right path?

Sorry, but some of the posts are just incredible. I don't have all the answers, but I'll take a stab at it and let you all rip me to shreds in return.

I would be looking at Bell replacing AD next year. I would be looking at Alex Hall replacing WG next year. I would be looking at more maturation and consistency from Wright and McDonald next year. I would be looking at a healthy Holly next year. I would be looking at a Smith being healthy to add to the DL rotation next year.

Then I would look at replacing Sean Jones. Pool has flourished and we need another safety that can actually be a field general.

I would draft another MLB as early as possible. One that has great instincts and is a solid tackler. DQ could still grow into a very good LB, but is undersized and at least would be solid depth.

I would look at drafting a RB to take over for Lewis after next year and be mixed into the rotation next year. I know, I know, we have All World Harrison on the team, but he's just not a between the tackles, pounding RB we need in Cleveland in November and December.

I would look at adding more OL/DL depth in the later rounds of the draft, but focus on RG. Tucker may or may not be back, but his days are numbered either way.

I would be trading DA for a decent pick. I think he could bring a 2nd rounder to us. I can see a Minnesota wanting something to complete the puzzle on their O.

I would trade KW2 for whatever I can get for him. He's a disruption to the team. He has incredible talent, but at the same time, his me first attitude int he huddle and locker room coupled with his knee makes him a liability to the team.

I would also sign a veteran OLB that understands the 3-4 and still has some gas in the tank. I think that if Hall develops, he and Wimbley will make a very formidable pass rushing combo.

I would look at signing TJ, but only if I still bring in a #1 WR Just think, a legit #1, Stallworth, T.J. and Heiden/Rucker. Lots of weapons that catch the ball when thrown to them.

So you are or aren't looking at getting rid of BE? I thought you said you weren't. In that case, it's solved. We have a #1 on the roster already.

After your normal ranting, I thought that was a good post.

I am not in favor of trading BE and replacing him with TJ.

Ranting? I guess when you dissect the flaws in someone's wishes for the team it's "ranting", but it's ok to rip apart the organization's moves. OK, thanks for letting me know.

Coach, you're just kind of high strung. Or at least on this board you are.

I think people would listen to you more if you were a little less emotional in your posts.

But wait a second, we do need some fire and emotion on the sidelines, and you are a coach ... do we have a match there ????

Before you go beserk on me, that was a joke.

Those are cool pictures...How'd you do that???...lol...

One thing...THOSE RECEIVERS SUCK...

One more thing...The WHOLE Coaching Staff DOES NOT need to be let go...The HEAD COACH MAYBE...The new coach will decide on the rest...Particularly the COORDINATORS...

And WE DO NOT need to move to a 4-3 defense...

Right now we are several pieces away from SOLID...

DE (Robaire and Another)
OLB
ILB and Bell
CB (Move McD to Nickel again...With Holly at Dime...

Something noone realizes is this...We spent alot of the off season on DEFENSE...But we had no 1st/2nd/3rd round picks so the pickin's were slim...Rogers and Williams with Bell aren't enuff...We have a FULL BOARD come this off season between FA and the Draft...This D WILL BE BETTER NEXT YEAR...Savage will see to it...

And the NUMBER ONE AND TWO PRIORITIES MUST BE

1) Get Andra Davis OFF THE FIELD
2) Get Willie MGinest OFF THE FIELD

Am I high strung? Nah, I am passionate, though. It's hard to sit back and watch people that have no idea what a job entails sit there and blast those that are doing the job as "idiots", "morons", etc. I have only a taste of what the job entails and I wouldn't do that. I am very passionate about what I do. So are the Browns' coaches.

As for the job, let me see where we stand in the seeding for playoffs today and finish up the season. Then I'll dust off the resume and call Randy and explain to him that we need some fire on the sidelines and I have a pack of matches and a can of gasoling.

Agreed, big time. But we do need to find out how to get his game on the right track.

I'm not sure if there is a more frustrating thing than watching a player who plays for your team with all the gifts in the world underachieve to such a great level. It's maddening.

Trading him would still be foolish. Unless we had a replacement, and I maintain that replacing Edwards would be so much harder than we realize. Guys with his talent don't grow on trees.

How much more time does Phil Savage get to things turned around in Cleveland?
Its evident the honeymoon is over for Savage. At one time Phil Savage was applauded around these parts for being one of more shrewdests GM's in NFL and his star was rising.
His drafting suggests he's been more miss than hit in the 1st 3 RD's in 4 years. Joe Thomas is the best of his 1st RD picks, obviously. Braylon Edwards needs to do some soul searching. He reminds me alot of former Redskins WR Micheal Westbrook. Physical speciman. A matchup problem for CB's on paper. But the only thing that stopped Westbrook was himself. Just like Braylon.
Kamerion Wimbley is just soft. He doesn't have the heart of a lion, warrior.
But Savage out thought himself with the draft day trade with the Ravens. Ngota vs Wimbley isn't even close as far their impacts on the field.
He's fared better somewhat in later RD's. Lawrence Vickers is a stud. Jerome Harrison can be the 2.0 version of Micheal Turner but the coaches fail to see that in Berea.
He struck gold in Josh Cribbs who was undrafted.
In 4 years Savage is 23-34.After this year the best he can do is 30-34,or he can go 23-41.
How many of you have lost faith in Savage? Or better yet whats your approval rating of him after 4 years?

The thing is, I agree with the plan that you've outlined. Almost 100% agree with it.

I've hypothesized that we could end up with 3 second rounders in this draft in a Winslow and DA trade. I too agree that DA can land a 2nd rounder due to the supply and demand curve on QB's. I'd hope Winslow could net a first because Shockey netted a 2nd and 5th, Winslow's talent exceeds his, but he has just as much baggage which I think hurts his stock.

If we have three second rounders, do we go for quantity? 4 picks on the first day? Or do we use those two of those three second rounders (or maybe even all three) to get back into the first?

I'm with you on a linebacker. Just about all the way on it. I love the USC linebacker. Same with another RB...Chris Wells would be awesome.

Healthy Daven Holly or drafting a 1st or 2nd round corner...I really have to think about this one because the allure of having three quality corners (assuming Wright and McDonald keep developing) has me salivating. 3 corners is going to become the standard in this league among elite defenses as more and more teams use 3 and 4 WR sets.

We're going to disagree on coaching though. I know "this is the scheme that won Superbowls." I watch our scheme vs. the Steelers and Ravens' schemes and it makes me nauseous. I want that kind of crazy mad scientist approach to our D.

I don't want Edwards traded unless we could somehow bait Detroit into giving us Calvin Johnson for Braylon straight up (yeah right, Millen ain't there anymore). I think he does more for our offense than Winslow does.

Do we look at the draft or FA for a strong safety? And if we look at the draft, who?

Wimbley is a beast. I'm sorry. He hasn't done much this season, but to go up against every teams best offensive lineman every week like he is a defensive tackle.... I have to give him props still.

I know if I were him, I would be COMPLAINING like CRAZY!!! lmao. I'm 250 lbs, and you WANT ME TO BEAT A 320 lbs. LT ALL BY MYSELF!!!??? lol. I would be pissed.

Scheme baby... SCHEME!!!! It's just not there yet. And when given the play, each and every one of our defensive players has to step up.

McDonald... You have to hold on to those INT's.
D'Qwell.. Davis... You have to hit that hole better on the blitz.
Sean Jones... You have to know when you are needed for run, and when you are needed for extra pass protection...
Adams... You have to make the tackle when it comes to you. I can say that to more players than just him. D'Qwell!!!!

When this defense clicks though, I think they are pretty good. But when it starts to go wrong for them, they haven't reached that point where they can turn it around and regroup.

Not pointed at anyone in particular....But I am not expecting to see much offered for DA. He really should have been moved this last off season. Everyone knew Quinn was the future....DA's stock was as high as it ever will be last year.....

Where Savage made the mistake IMO was FEAR....he was not afraid that DA would play poorly and that they would end up eating that contract.

He was afraid that DA would play well somewhere else.

Just like the Packers with Favre....they did not want him...but they were afraid of letting him go and stinging them in the behind....

I would have traded Favre to the Vikings in a heartbeat if I felt it would help build my team.

DA still has value....but not much....he has shown to be just to inconsistent....

There is still a shot to get something of value for him...but not was it was a year ago.

Not sure if you are directing that at me because I didn't say I WOULD switch to a 4-3 if I was Phil only that I am not sure what defense we would be running with a new coach if we had one. Then I posted a few players I would look at . . .

Then you say "I don't have all the answers". Well neither do I big fella, just tossing some thoughts out there as well as reading what others have to say on the subject.

Hack, this is the NFL, not the stock market.

The bottom line is to find a QB. When a guy you had no idea was coming did what Anderson did, you just don't let him walk because you drafted a QB in the 1st round.

If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out, but that doesn't mean Savage made a mistake.

I don't care what your homey Florio says

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

Not sure what the Florio line meant....but I am just saying...DA had value...now he has none.......DA was a PRO BOWL QB....now he is an over paid backup.

EDIT: Ah...just went over to PFT..and see he has something similar.....I still feel it was less about DA doing good or bad in CLE...and more about him doing well somewhere else...and being "THE GUY WHO LET HIM GO"

I think he "went" to the Pro Bowl, but that's about where I would draw the proverbial line in the sand,....

Oh he'll get something for him. But I don't believe he'll get what he could have gotten this past offseason.
