schaub was worth two seconds and two spots up in the first.

anderson has more experience than schaub had, a pro bowl appearance, and a percieved bad situation here. somebody that doesn't have a qb will be ready to pay the price to get their hands on him.

i think he should at least pull a 2nd.

And WE DO NOT need to move to a 4-3 defense...

Right now we are several pieces away from SOLID...

DE (Robaire and Another)
OLB
ILB and Bell
CB (Move McD to Nickel again...With Holly at Dime...

One question..and be careful of your answer..who's going to be the # 2 corner?
Oh draft a corner?
There's a thought..I bandwagon that every year
But moving McDonald to the nickel shoyuld be done..and I say look for a big corner to go opposite Wright.
Phil has to get a impact ILB even if Bell is here..
We also need a pass rusher..a guy
who was tearing it up every Saturday..not just a guy who looks like he might fit.

We spent alot of the off season on DEFENSE...But we had no 1st/2nd/3rd round picks so the pickin's were slim...Rogers and Williams with Bell aren't enuff..
It was the price to pay to get to the Dline up to snuff..
It left a lot of LB's and corners for other teams to snatch up..
This year is heavy in LB's..we need to grab one..Phil hasn't been able to get a top tier LB in FA yet and I'm not about to bank on that changing this year.
But he's got to be smart to find guys that are instinctive and game changers..
Hehehe..you should see my little board that I've been forming already.

It's damn near time to Bring It...

These last 2 collapses have about killed this season...

Right now we're in a 4 way tie with teams of the likes of Houston/Jax/SD...Ya' gotta think SD and Jax will finish better...Guess where that leaves us???...In the 9ish hole...Not good for record wise OR Crennel...But EXCELLENT for a sweet pick-up...

Can you say Maualuga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Corners as much as anyone but DO NOT GO FA FOR ONE...Not the top one anyways after what Clements got...That's BS money...Especially when an entire 3-4 D is predicated on TWO THINGS...NOSE & LB's...And we have the Nose...

The only Corner I like is Vontae Davis and I still go LB ALL DAY...Bell or no Bell...Jackson's last year here is 2009...

We need to go after a decent #2 WR in FA...A STUD at OLB...And a decent Corner to battle for a starting spot...Nickel at worst with Holly...Those 3 FA moves will help immensely with depth defensively and at the WR spot...

Edwards...#2 FA...Hubbard...Steptoe/JJ/Cribbs...
STUD OLB...Wimbley...Hall...
Wright...McD...FA...Holly...

Turn to the draft and hope like hell we can get 2 or 3 teams involved in the Anderson game and snag a 3rd rounder for him...

MAUALUGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a HIGH ROUND TWO Defensive End...A TACKLE in college to move outside which is where the BEST 3-4 Ends come from...

And an Offensive Lineman...RT or Guard...

Maualuga...Bell...Jackson...Williams...(#1 priority is getting MGinest & Davis OFF THE FIELD)

Rogers...Williams...Smith...Smith...DRAFT in 2...

That my friend will go a HUGE way in turning this around...But it will be at the cost of our current Head Coach...Cause I think Crennel's fate is ALREADY SEALED...To have this happen with the internal expectations of this team is gonna have Lerner cannin' Crennel the week after the season ends...And I'm sure he's already workin' on the LIST so he's prepared...

Just DO NOT LET SAVAGE GO............HE AIN'T DONE YET with TALENT.........

Go Browns!!!

Besides the obvious with Rey...

My ILB selection would be: Jasper Brinkley of South Carolina...

My OLB selection would be Clint Sintim of Virginia...

Our problems would be solved for the most part. Sintim is a big boy with big power. We need a meanie to come off the edge, and this boy brings it!!! Check him out.
All this in one game.

I 'll bring it..wish they would leave a draft forum up year long..

My choices for ILB:

Maualuga- USC ..big problem is where other teams have him ranked..

Aaron Curry Vandy-he can play inside and outside and is a hard hitter.
Same problem as Mau..where will teams have him ranked?

Brinkley - South Carolina - 6' 2 270..thats right 270pds..I've always wanted a big backer in the middle that is more like a DT..
Should be there in the seond or third round.
Dude is mobile and can drop in coverage..

DE- Tyson Jackson LSU or
Fili Moala USC 6' 5 295

CB:
Jenkins -OSU
Mikens/Smith- Cinn
Darius Butler-UConn
Davis/Harris-VT

RT:
Phil Loadholt- Oklahoma 6' 8 337
Alex Boone OSU..one of the few times I would look at a OSU linemen..good pickup later in the draft.

OG:
Cedric Dockery -Texas 6'4 320
There are a lot of linemen OT/OG's that you can take in the late rounds that good selectons.

Ok this morning when I was running on the treadmill and watching espn I started thinking about how I would transform the team in the offseason. This is what I came up with. Please pick it apart if you want or share what you would do.

1. Can Romeo Crennel
2. Hire Cowher
3. Package Anderson and Edwards in a trade to Detroit for Calvin Johnson and 2nd and 4th round draft pick.
4. Trade Winslow to who ever he can get to renegotiate his contract for either a 1st or 2nd and 3rd round draft pick. (For arguments sake we will go with the 2nd and 3rd round pick).
5. Free Agency - Take care of our guys first. Sign atleast one stud at either CB, HB, LB or DL if available. Sign a reliable veteran backup to hold clipboard with Dorsey and support Quinn.
6. The Draft - draft Michael Crabtree as first option. Second option in first round is LB Ray Matguala sp?. Third option is CB Michael Jenkins. With 2 second round picks draft OL and either RB, WR, LB, or CB. From the third round on down draft BPA.
7. Let Cowher work his magic and see if he can motivate the guys we already have who aren't playing to our expectations ie. Wimbley, Pool, Sean Jones, Corey Williams, D. Jackson, Leon Williams, and Andra Davis.

Maybe it's too early for all of this but what the hell. Unless we win out the playoffs are pretty much out of reach.

I do like your train of thought, but I don't know if other teams would be willing to trade for Anderson, Edwards, or Winslow

I dont see Detroit giving us Calvin Johnson no matter what...nor would they give up a pick i don't think

I think we'd MAYBE get a 2nd rounder for Winslow, and that is probably a bit high

As for Cowher, again I don't see him signing with us...but i do wish

6. The Draft - draft Michael Crabtree as first option.

I think we get a 1st from a team real close to being complete.

Agreed. Not happening. We would have to thrwo in some picks for Detriot to think about that trade.

If I were Savage (and I'm not):

- Crennel finishes the season but is gone the day after our season ends. No matter what happens between now and then, he is finished. We have talent, but we don't have the heart and desire to play a whole game.

- I do not call Marty.

- I see if there is any way Cowher will come here to coach without being GM also. Obviously will have a big say in personnel moves, just not the GM also. If he insists on being a GM, too then I hope Lerner doesn't stop by to have the same talk with me I just had with Crennel.

- I sit with Cowher and analyze the assistant coaches. No one is safe. Special attention to the WR and LB position coaches. More needs to be done with our players at these spots.

- Anderson gets moved. Seeing what Schuab got I am surprised that people think no one will give anything for Anderson. He has shown that he is capable of amazing things. There will be head coaches, OCs and QB coaches who think that they can be the one to make him a star. He is less of a risk than someone coming out of college, DA has performed very well (at times) at this level. Depending on who we deal with, I think we can get a 1st (from someone picking in the mid-late part of the round, like Minnesota) or 2nd and 3rd (from someone picking early, like KC). This is done early in the off season, not draft day.

- I move either Winslow or Edwards. Not both. I probably go with Winslow. He has more trade value, we're deep at TE, he has shortened his career (IMHO) and he's been a distraction. While he may be able to be a good slot WR I don't see him taking the reduced playing time. I sense similar value as Anderson.

- I thank Willie Mc for his service and send him on his way.

- I do not plan on Joe J playing again. Thanks for retiring a Brown.

- I let Sean Jones go as a FA. Most people turn it on for a contract year, he regressed. We do not need two strong safeties anyway.

- For FA my list includes CB, ILB, WR, FS and RG. One stud would be great, with any others being noticable upgrades.

- Draft LB, CB, OL. Maybe snag Jamal's replacement.

I don't want to get into coaches right now..I have my thoughts about Rac..and the things I mentally hammer him on are the things I bring up..
But it's not boding well for him right now.
As for who might replace him.."sigh"..I don't know..haven't ventured down that path..If something happens I'll comment..but I will say I don't want any new up and coming coordinator..
I want someone who can take the talent here and what will come in and use it to get this team moving forward.
I don't want to see another tear down and start up

Between Edwards/Winslow..It'll be KW that gets moved first..remember we have other TE's and Rucker being drafted was one I alerted people about.

Willie Mac..I agee with Tabber..make him the LB coach..thats all..
FA ..get a WR..a solid one..
Jones/Pool do not play well together..I did like Jones but he may have to go..make Pool the SS ..get a FS..

I think itd be worth it to inquire about Anquan Boldin.

He doesnt wanna be in Arizona anymore...and they could use a pass catching TE, especially if they lose Boldin.

Thatd be something I'd look into, and instead of Cowher...why not Russ Grimm. He's been an assistant under Cowher and now Ken Wisenhunt who is doing very good things with Arizona.

Hire a good DC along with Russ and I think you have a solid team here in Cleveland.

I'd rather not trade Winslow unless he wants his contfat re-done and gets idiotic about it. We would rue the day he left.

If we fire Romeo – and I'm leaning strongly in wanting that – I want a coach with NFL head coaching experience. Cowher'd be my first choice.

Here's how my perfect offseason would go...Romeo would be gone and somehow Savage will make it work with Cowher. Something tells me they see things with a similar set of eyes. Hire away one of Pittsburgh's defensive coaches to become the D-coordinator here, someone who's worked under LeBeau for a long time and understands how his system works. I want the LeBeau 3-4, NOT the Parcells/Belichick 3-4. It's not the 3-4 that's the problem, it's the fact that we're not using it at its best.

1) Trade DA and Winslow. I'm assuming we can get AT LEAST a 2nd for Winslow considering Shockey got a 2nd and a 5th, and Shockey is perceived to be a much worse teammate than Winslow. I have to believe DA is worth a 2nd to a QB desperate team out there. Suddenly we find ourselves with 4 first day picks.

2) Get in a FA linebacker and strong safety. I've soured on Jones. Only keep him if he's willing to take a cap friendly contract because he's NOT worth big money.

3) Sign a corner. Doesn't have to be an elite one, but it would help.

4) Sign a linebacker, I'm not comfortable going in with Bell as the starter next year. I'm ok with staying in the 3-4.

Draft time...

1st round: Give me one of these guys: That USC linebacker Ray M, James Laurinaitis, Brandon Spikes, Malcolm Jenkins or Chris Wells. We could even use our 3 second rounders to move back into the first and get 2 of these players.

Round 2: We have 3 picks here, let's have some fun. If we go Wells in the first, then we go linebacker, corner and OL in the 2nd. If we go linebacker, we go RB, corner and OL, if we go corner, we go RB, linebacker and OL.

I'd be livid if we spent our 1st round pick on Wells. Luckily for me, I think there's no way in Hell we go in that direction.

DeepThreat's 10 simple steps to becoming a playoff caliber team. *L*

1. Romeo stays.
2. Savage stays.
3. We put Tucker back at DB Coach, get a new Defensive Coordinator with experience in the 3-4, and a new Linebacker Coach.
4. We trade Winslow IF we can get a 2nd or higher for him.
5. We trade DA for a 2nd.
6. We trade one or two (I think it would only take one of them, and our 4th) of our three seconds for Anquan Boldin. This makes Braylon expendable if he has a problem with our team, or us making this trade.
7. We sign Terrel Suggs or another pass rusher in Free Agency.
8. We sign a legit Nickel Back.

Draft:
9. We draft Ray M., Beanie Wells, Brandon Spikes, or some other stud at one of these positions.
10. We draft the other two positions or an O-Lineman.

He's not my first choice by any means, but he might be too tempting to pass up. He's like Jamal Lewis in his prime. Breakaway speed and awesome power. He'd be the PERFECT successor to Jamal.

BUT...I realize we have bigger problems than RB. Hence why he's the only offensive player I listed.

That's understable. I don't agree, but it's understandable.

The big concern with Wells is of course injuries. I don't think anyone looks at him and see's an overrated player. He clearly looks the part of a 1000-yard back. Those injuries though........And of course RB isn't our biggest weakness, as you noted.

It's funny, this is like the 200th " If I were Phil" Thread ...

Anywho...

If I were Phil I would wait till the end of the season before anyone starts firing, hiring, re-signing, etc...

What we do know at this point is though:

Players possible quit on Romeo, and quit on their team. Not good for Romeo's future.

DA's stock just went up. BQ losing shows that the QB isn't the hole on this team, irregardless of how well BQ played and how poorly DA has played in the past.

Switching to a 43 isn't going to solve anything on defense. Taking crappy LB's and changing their scheme only makes them crappy linebackers in a differ scheme.

Robaire, Shaun Smith, Williams, and Rogers is a great start to build a 34 around. No point it changing the course, the roots are implanted now its time to branch off and get some depth at LB. Changing the scheme won't do anything.

Corner is a weak spot still.

Not sure why everyone stopped drinking the K2 kool aide. The guy has had a rough season but I mean well...For being K2...he has

A.) Been relatively well behaved, with the exception being one outburst surrounded by A LOT of gray area within the organization.
B.) Has Drew Rosenhause for an agent and has been relatively quiet about the contract
C.) Drops the least amount of passes
D.) Almost one of the only guarantees on this team not to quit on them

So in a nut shell...Phil has a lot to think about but he needs to wait out the season and I think Romeo is in trouble, needs to rebound hard over the last portion of the season. Otherwise he's a goner...

Then the speculation can begin....

Kirk Ferentz?
Bill Cowher?
who knows?

Already taken care of....Holly will be back next year, so McDonald is our legit nickel back (yes, we need more depth still...but finding a starting quality nickel back is harder than finding "someone better than Cousin")

One, Holly's contract is up after this year. He is an UFA. Two, I don't like relying on a DB who is coming off of a major knee injury. Three, I would have Holly as my nickel, not McDonald.

I dunno if livid would be the word for me Toad, but damn would I be disappointed. In the 1st round I want the best damn LB on the board, be it inside (preferably) or outside. I LOVE Beanie, hell I got him as my desktop background right now, but he is NOT the right pick for us IMO given what I see every Sunday. I want a hard ass, ultra skilled LB to insert into the D, and I want it now. I literally smile when I watch Maluaga play, just imagining him on the field for us...

I think if you could get that stud LB in round one and bring in a proven LB in FA, this ship would be turning much quicker than we think, given the fact that we may end up with 2 2nd rounders (da or k2 trade) in which we can use at other positions.. Barring we get that LB in round 1, I would like to take a D-end in round two...

So to recap, not including possible DA or K2 trade, and not including anything past what we KNOW we have through round 2:

Round 1: Stud LB (Inside or Outside)
Round 2: Defensive End

FA: Proven upgrade LB, Safety, Veteran WR

I thought about it for a few moments.........

....yeah, I'd still be livid He's going to be hellu-fun to watch, but I can't see him helping us in the ways we need it most.

Now if we could somehow drop down in the first round, get that defensive guy, then still somehow land Wells, I'd be elated.

Gee, I want it all, don't I?

If I were Savage:

Hire either Rex Ryan or Steve Spagnola..There was always a question in NE if Romeo was the defensive mastermind or was it Bill B. well it seems we have found that out..Also if you look there is talent on Rex Ryan's defense but it is aged. Also it has been made clear that is Rex Ryan's defense...So perfect world I would hire Rex.

Then I ask Rex is he wants to run a 3-4 or 4-3. It seems he likes flexibility in his players (Suggs A. Thomas..etc) so must likely he would say 3-4...IF I hired Spagnola he would probably want a 4-3. Then I start to make Personal Moves to which defense they want.

1) I look to sign Terrell Suggs or Albert Haynesworth...We need atleast one big FA Defensive pickup and those 2 are the best available. I would prefer Suggs but if he is courted by someone else, I might as well go after the best defensive linemen in the league. In all honestly they will probably cost about the same amount of money...tons of it
2) I either hope Holly can replace McDonald and make McDonald our Nickel or I look to sign a guy who can play a number 2 corner.
3) I actually think our Safety's are good all though I am concerned about Jones...It seems he regressed...No idea why..Maybe he's still hurt or has stress who knows, but I give him the chance to come back
4) I look for a marginal offensive tackle...Will not break the bank. I am only replacing Tucker (I don't think Tucker will be of any use next year but I hope he will be) Body/Depth
5) I am trading DA/Winslow. I would rather trade Winslow than BE because Winslow is easier to replace with Hieden/Rucker/Dinkins. Look people if we package them together we will get a first. Someone mentioned that Schuab got 2 2nd rounders and 3 spots moved up in the 1st round and Shockey got a 2nd and a 5th(?). If you put those together that is defiantly a 1st or at least 2nds and some change(Which I would trade to get back in the 1st).Our best target will be the Vikings other Possible teams: 49ers (they have Davis but they would be desperate for DA) Texans, Seahawks, Rams (Both these teams have old QBs), Lions.
Draft:
1) Our pick- It appears we are going to be picking in the top 10. So hopefully Rey Maualuga will fall, if I get worried I trade up for him offer my 2nd round pick to move up. He would improve our Line backing core tremendously. Look what Patrick Willis did...Rey could do the same for us. Perfect world he drops. In these draft he does:
http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php
I know it has us taking Vonte Davis but if we get some serious Pass Rush you would be surprised how much better our Secondary will look.
2- Our 2nd 1st round pick: Whether we trade for a 1st or our 2nds for a 1st we should be able to aquire another first. For the sake of argument we are picking 16th. Here is where FA becomes important. If I got Suggs I would probably go BPA. Whether that be Jerermy Maclin, Knowshon Moreno or Terrance Cody. If I got Haynesworth I draft another Linebacker. Either Selvie, Cushing, or Greg Hardy

Rounds after the 1st are hard to judge cause you never know who falls or what trade offers you get...etc

However I think that's a good starting point.

Go Browns!!

I see what you're saying about wanting the best LB available. But once again, let's look at this from a business standpoint.

Look at what Anthony Henry commanded from the Boys. I mean look at that contract!

And Champ Baily?

From a standpoint of money and cap space, it may be far more of an advantage to draft a CB in round 1 and sign a top rated FA LB.

I'm not disputing the way you have outlined our needs at all. But I think if you are looking at it from a numbers game, which Phil must always be considering, you'll find that top rated FA CB's command one of the highest salaries out there.

Over the past couple of seasons, the price of FA CB's has just gotten out of control. I'm sure that will be one factor that Phil will be taking into consideration in the equasion.

A very good point Pit, and one that I did not think about. Guess that's why I didn't major in Business at OSU ....

I think a lot of this comes down to what the organization internally thinks of McDonald, both near future and down the line (potential)

I would by no means be pissed if we went Vontae Davis or Malcom Jenkins in round 1. A lot of my reasoning comes down to the fact that we need at least 2 new starting line backers, thus I think it would be nice to mix in a proven vet with a stud rookie that we can build around...

I still gotta think it would be pretty tough to pass on Malauga if he is available...

Decisions, decisions....

Just sucks that we are having this discussion on Nov. 12th....

I actually wouldn't trade DA in the immediate offseason. If the aim is to trade him and move on, then he has much more value if we wait until a big arm goes down in TC. The pick would be useful in this draft, but they'll be just as useful in the next.

I'd like to fire RAC while keeping Chud and Savage...unfortunately I think that shrinks the coaching pool considerably.

Outside of that, I'm not going to venture into Madden-esque deals and guesses on a draft that's a half a year away...we need linebackers, period. A possession reciever is a must, and you can never have too many corners...especially when your team hasn't been able to rush the QB in what's approaching a decade.

I have read many of the GM's in waiting suggestions.

We had 5 ProBowlers last year and now it seems like everyone wants to gut the team.

It's all about the Head Football Coach. All this crap about Winslow and Edwards not being able to get along etc. etc. That is all bull. Keep Winslow he will excel with Quinn. Tell him we don't redo contracts. Edwards, keep him next year. When his contract is up in 09 decide his future.

Anderson listen to offers. Not forced to trade him. We would still need a good second string player which is what he is.

Address the defense in the off season, but don't be crazy and pass BPA in the draft.

The issue with this team is Romeo period. Every way you look at it there is no other conclusion. I can go on and on and buld a case no defense lawyer in the world could stand against. The evidence is overwhelming.

Mr. Savage,

We would be lacking a top WR and that would take away our deep threat. You can't rely on Stallworth to play a complete season. Also, canning Chud would be a mistake.

There was always a question in NE if Romeo was the defensive mastermind or was it Bill B. well it seems we have found that out..

Here it is AGAIN...

The lie that just won't die.

I wish I had a nickel every time this diarrheic bullcrap has been spewed across these boards since 2005... I'd have enough to bail out the housing industry, Wall St, the Detriot 3- and have enough left over to bail out both Kwame Kilpatrick AND Ted Stevens.

Why are you jokers so willing to believe, spread or repeat outright lies, when you have enough fodder for honest speculation without them? I just don't get it.

From a standpoint of money and cap space, it may be far more of an advantage to draft a CB in round 1 and sign a top rated FA LB.

I half agree..why?
Phil has not had any success getting a top-FA LB..he's tried but every freaking one of them went elsewhere.
Sooo it doesn't give me confidence..
There are alot of LB's/CB's in this draft..but the best ones will sitting there round one/two ..
I think it would better to get the one LB early and then turn to corner -depending on whats on the board.
I'll break this down as I think on it..
If there's the # 1or # 2 LB when we pick vs #1 or # 2corner..which one fits , and which one could come in and start?
We really need to get DAVIS out of the middle fast..so I'm looking at the backer first..as much as I love corners..we can get one in round two or three, if Phil can get back a third rounder he traded away.
This defense desperately and I mean desperately needs some impact on that linebacker unit..we don't have any..
I know my three choices:

Rey Maualuga -SC 6' 2 260 4.75
Aaron Curry Wake Forest 6' 3 247
Jasper Brinkley -South Carolina 6' 2 275

I think it's early but it appears the Browns will be in that 8-15 range in the first round..so two of these guys will be available..can't pass on all three.
Looking at the corners , afetr the first two come off the board, there are about 3 -5 we could get away with going into round two/three..round two is usually when the run on corners starts..

I don't think we need a high round CB.

I think that if we have better linebacker play that we'll find that our CB's are generally decent enough (although I wouldn't let that stop me from taking a CB in the 2nd or 3rd).

As I see it, our D's biggest problems have been lack of pass rush, stopping the run and getting creamed by Tight End's.... that is ALL stuff that our LB's are responsible for, and it all starts in the middle. We need speed, size, athleticism and FOOTBALL PLAYERS in there. Big, mean thumpers with range.

Upgrade BOTH ILB spots as Priority #1, then one OLB spot as Priority #2... then add either a Safety or a CB and this D will be ready for some business.
Get our DLinemen and Daven Holly healthy plus a fresh influx of UDFA's for depth and we should be Ok.

I would really feel more comfortable if we had picks 1-6..as of this moment we don't.
I do agree with you ..rounds one/two I'm going LB..but only if Phil can't get a FA LB..if he can get one top tier ILB , you can use one of the first two picks on a LB..
Shoot , this should the year to remake that unit.

I would prefer that one of the ILB's be an upper-echelon free agent, so that we have a veteran in there with whatever rookie we get.... and that rookie will still have to earn his way into the lineup.

Looking real quick at who is coming available, there aren't a whole lot of outstanding options that will actually make it to the market, but getting one that will be an upgrade over Dra or DQ and then drafting a top prospect should stabilize us for a few years:

2009 NFL Free Agent Linebackers

By: Greg Davis

Eric Barton, UFA, New York Jets

While Barton's '07 production didn't match his '06 production, he was playing for a defense that didn't get much help from the offensive unit. Brett Favre's arrival should improve the offense, which will also help alleviate pressure on the defense. Barton made 100 tackles and 4.5 sacks in '06, and if he can reach similar numbers this season, teams will consider him a good free agent option.

Karlos Dansby, UFA, Arizona Cardinals

Dansby is becoming a consistent linebacker in the NFL. In his last three seasons, he has tackle totals of 89, 82, and 99. He has also tallied at least 3.5 sacks in each of his four seasons as a pro. His three interceptions last season tied a career high, and Dansby is young and athletic. He isn't in the same class as some of the linebackers on this list, but he may eventually be pretty close. Dansby will appeal to several teams because of his age, size, and potential.

Ray Lewis, UFA, Baltimore Ravens

With over 1,500 tackles, 30 sacks, and 25 interceptions during his 12 seasons, Lewis isn't just a Pro Bowl player and Super Bowl winner, but also a future Hall of Famer. Since entering the league, Lewis has been a force and helped the Ravens to be one of the league's best defensive units year in and year out. He's been in Baltimore his entire career so it's hard to imagine him with another franchise. The Ravens will make him an offer that should lock him up until almost the end of his career.

Mike Peterson, UFA, Jacksonville Jaguars

Peterson has played in just 15 games over the course of the last two seasons, but when healthy he is one of the better middle linebackers around. He hlikely six seasons in double-digit tackles and the three seasons he failed to reach that mark were injury-shortened years. In '05, his most recent full season, he also had six sacks and three interceptions. His health concerns will scare some teams away, but Peterson may still have some quality seasons left in him.

Bart Scott, UFA, Baltimore Ravens

Even though Scott was an undrafted free agent, he has managed to become a quality linebacker. While he has benefited from playing alongside Pro Bowlers like Ray Lewis, he has also helped them benefit from his own contributions. He had just one sack last season as the Ravens defense struggled more than usual, but he showed in '06 that he is capable of over 100 tackles and 9.5 sacks. The Ravens will probably pay Scott enough to keep him around, but they may be looking to see if he can have another solid season this year before they commit.

Jonathan Vilma, UFA, New Orleans Saints

Vilma will be coming back from an injury and trying to make an impression with his new team in New Orleans. Prior to his shortened '07 season, Vilma had registered 108 tackles or more in three straight seasons, including 173 in '05; he also has six interceptions in his four seasons of work. Vilma is quick to the ball and consistently makes the right play. At 26 years of age, he will be a hot commodity on the market if he shows that his injury is well behind him.

Linebacker:
Jordan Beck, UFA, Denver Broncos
Monty Beisel, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Angelo Crowell, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Channing Crowder, UFA, Miami Dolphins
James Farrior, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
Tyjuan Hagler, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Willie McGinest, UFA, Cleveland Browns
Carlos Polk, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Sam Williams, UFA, Oakland Raiders

A lot of work and thought process into that thread...good job.

Of course most of my praise will end right there. Too many wholesale changes.

1. CBs - I think with Holly added in with the competition we will be set as EW and McD mature into their 3rd season. Besides I still maintain the only thing wrong with those two corners is that we don't have a pass rush!

2. I think instead of starting anew with wholesale changes and with that would have to be Wholesale COACHES as well.

Savage will maintain the course and UPGRADE where ever possible.

OG...I think we are set with ES, Hadnot, Tucker and McKinney - I really don't think we will venture out there in the draft or FA unless one falls to us in the draft as a Steal and OL rarely do that!

RT...I can see us making an investment into one. Tucker with what he has left best suits us as our RG. Shaffer is ok...but if we can get another Cornerstone stud at RT - If the opportunity arises. I can see the move being made.

If an opportunity in FA comes our way ( I doubt it) but if Savage upgrades on Shaffer from FA then we will trade Shaffer. Draft...Shaffer has another year as our starter.

Trading BE n DA...hopefully we will be able to trade DA, if more than one team covets DA we could get something good. BE??? Come on - we w¿n't trade him, if his drops get so bad, why would a team trade for him at an Overall #3 salary. And now that we invested in BE we will stick with him. Possibly his days might end with us when its time for his 2nd contract. If a stud we will pay for him...if mediocre I'm sure he'll walk and try the FA market.

JJ...will not start. In 2007 we used him too much as it was planned to just get him in every now n then cause of his age. But we had to use him almost every down and that took its toll...it was the #1 reason we went after Stallworth, to take reps away from JJ. As a starter with his injury past, he doesn't stand a chance to make it through 16 games let alone the playoffs.

I do not mind your movement of KW2 to WR...I doubt that would happen but I see that as more probable than JJ being a full time starter.

Bush??? Not a 2nd rounder, sorry. He hasn't established anything yet, although the one time I saw him in preseason I did like what I saw. But RBs are plentiful and rookies can and do provide Impact. I'd rather see us spend that 2nd round pick on a RB. Bush has as much a chance of being released than not and we pick him up as a FA.

3-4, 4-3
Got news for you 270 is considered undersized for a NFL 4-3 DE. That means both Hall and Wimbley just won't fit well. We are not switching defense. Look we go into the 4-3 defense as it is...its not like we don't change it up. We have that ability.

Rogers n Williams will be in year 2. Robaire n Smith - here. And we can always invest in a 2nd day pick for a Motor guy.

McG is gone...its not a matter of us convincing him to retire, its already been announced (sure he can say he wants one more year cause we lost this season??? thats if my prediction of 7 straight wins don't come true!!! )

AD is gone...we bought out his contract and this is the last year. We gave him one last opportunity to SHOW US. Anyone here thinks he's turned our heads???

Hall and Bell will get a first shot...but don't be shocked if the right guy falls to us that we don't use a first day pick or two (assuming we get one for DA) that we use it one a Tweener DE pass rush, explosion extraordinaire!! Or a kick butt ILB of the Willis, Mayo, Rivers type.

Its called upgrades.

I would like to see us invest into a Kick butt Safety to run with Pool. I think if Jones has a future with us...it would be as a backup. That would serve his fragile body better. But if not, we could use a smart veteran such as Russell who can make the DB calls and point a Pool SS in the right direction!

I see this team as a pretty talented team...not far away. I don't see wholesale changes in playing this If I Were Savage Game.

Even with all the injuries and tough schedule...just at QB there could have been different results in the Steeler, Both Raven, Redskin games. Maybe not all but heck 3 out of the 4... Thats puts us around 6-3 and in this thing.

I also see a breakdown of the Defense the last two games which had a big hand in both losses as well.

FS...ILB, Pass Rush...fix those and improve + upgrade this Defense could easily of carried this team to victories.

To expect wholesale changes would be unrealistic if you ask me.

Savage has done it correctly...start with the LOS and build out and upgrade. We got the OL (sure we can upgrade and if the right guy falls to us we will do so). We got a DL and sure we can upgrade again. But I think its obvious even without recognition of it being a weakness...the fact that 2 of our LB starters will be gone lead us to the direction that Savage will be busy in that area.

RB...a strong draft again at the position. Guys like Bush would be able to be gotten with a 4,5 or less value pick. But if we get one, I want to see what Savage gives us with a 1st or 2nd rounder...after all look what he got us with a 5th rounder!

Well as always JMHO
