Ravens extend Billick's contractAssociated Press
National Football League News Wire

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens extended coach
Brian Billick's contract Wednesday following the best season in
franchise history.

The team simply sent out a one-line statement to make the
announcement, and promised no further details or discussion.

Asked about his contract Monday, Billick made it clear he would
prefer the situation remain a personal matter.

"I hope you don't misunderstand why I am hesitant to talk about
my contract going forward," he said. "Beyond the personal side,
it's not very comfortable to sit and pick up the paper and read
your personal finances all over the page."

Billick's current contract was to last through 2007 and his
future with the team was in doubt after a disappointing 2005
season. But the team went 13-3 before being eliminated from the
playoffs Saturday with a 15-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

In nine seasons under Billick, Baltimore is 75-53. His nine
seasons as coach is tied with Philadelphia's Andy Reid for the
third-longest current run in the NFL behind Jeff Fisher of
Tennessee (13) and Denver's Mike Shanahan (12).

I know the rats have had their best season yet but they got bounced out of the playoffs at home. I'm somewhat surprised that they have chose to stick with Billick, I really thought he was on the hot seat and I'm sure he was but I guess this season has saved his butt.

However, I'm not surprised that he and the team do not want to discuss the financial aspects of the extension. I don't blame anybody for that.

This is either misleading or just sloppy.

He should have said......."best regular season in franchise history." I would think that the Super Bowl win would be "the best season in franchise history."

I think resigning Billick is a good move for them. Continuity would be important for them. I don't like the guy, but he is probably a good coach and has done nothing to be fired.

Except letting the players get wayyyyyy out of hand sometimes. As soon as there is an inkling that the team won't make the playoffs, all hell breaks loose.

Care to expound on that?

I think they have one of the tighter-knit teams in the NFL. I don't see the finger-pointing and criticizing of teammates, coaches, and the organization itself, like I do on teams like the Giants, Browns, and Redskins, Lions, and Raiders.

Actually, it's neither sloppy nor misleading. The correct terms are "season" and "post-season". To refer to season is obviously to refer to what you call the "regular season" and the post-season, obviously, refers to after the season.

Sheesh. It must suck that the entire world is out to get you and/or deceive the unsuspecting public, huh?

That is one dude that I just cannot stand watching on the sidelines of any football game!

There is just something about that man that I just do not like at all!

Actually, I think you don't have a clue as to what you are saying. Yeah, there is a regular season and a post season.........duh! However, when all is said and done, it is the same season.
