So, I need some help from my fellow Browns fans.

My brother's birthday is coming up and he told my mom he wants and Xbox 360. Just as background he is turning 19 and in college. I have a PS3 and my youngest brother has a Wii, but I don't know much about Xbox 360s. I've never had one. I do know there are the different versions, but I don't know which one would be the best for him. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

as you know, they have the arcade, the "pro" (which they updated from a 20 gb hard drive to a 60 gb hard drive, and the elite. i originally got the arcade (first one to come out with falcon chipset and hdmi output) and waited for a sale on the hard drive. if you know he plans on playing games like halo 3 online, which require map downloads, he'll need a hard drive, which would knock out the arcade. i don't really see the point in the elite though, imo

if you have an FYE or sam goody near you, i've read that they're trying to get rid of all their pro sets that only have the 20 gb hard drive. something like $230 with a $100 mail in rebate that prints out at purchase. they do these normally as i got halo 3 from them when it came out for $20 after mail in rebate. you should check that out first as it's probably the most cost effective.

bundle-wise, typically costco has bundles that are pretty good deals. they're normally the pro with an extra controller and charger, and game. it's also better to grab it there due to their lax return policy if anything goes wrong.

My recommendation would be to buy 2 360's, so when the first one craps out on him, he'll have a back up.

i would reccomend at least a 60gb...

i have a 20 gb, it was replaced a few months ago free of charge, including free shipping.

yes, they crap out, but they do a wonderful job of sending you a brand spanking new one, and so far, so good on the new console.

ps3 fanboys will always dog it, but it's still a solid system with wonderful exclusives.

Solid systems don't "crap out," like you said.

Their line up is solid, yes. The hardware, no. Typicl Microsoft.

Knock on wood, mine has been perfect. I've had it for a few years now and no complaints.

Granted, I do not have the time to play on it as much as other might.

they really fixed things up in the recent builds. falcon and jasper address a lot of the old issues. the problems that many people had in 2007 aren't really the same issues now. new heat sinks, smaller processors, and such have fixed a lot of these problems. the reliability now should be significantly better but time will tell.
