lets talk about stuff you not supposed to talk about in public because it causes tension.

Politics- Well we all seen how that went with the election

Religion- Well, yet again we seen how that went with the sideline praying of Brady . One of my personal top 5 stupidest arguments on this board ever.

Money- The last topic of the 3 topics you should not talk about.

So how much do you make? how much better are you than others because of this? how greedy are the people that make more than you? How dumb are the people that dont agree you? Are you a grasshopper or an ant?

so in the tradition of this board, lets hear some stupid opinions. makes going to work easier everyday laughing at some replies on this board.

I no longer make a lot of money. Those of you that make more then me are just greedy no good for nothings. I don't care how many years of schooling you had to pay for or how hard you work to get your money. I don't care if you folks who have taken huge risks to start your own businesses think you deserve to keep what you earn.

I'm hurting and I think my government should make my life easier. If that means taking your hard earned money I'm all for it.

Honestly, I don't begrudge those who earn more and I don't think if I made more money my life would be any different. Like just about everyone else I wish I could make more, but it doesn't define who I am. I use to think it did, and tied my self worth into my job and money I made. I was forced to to examine how I felt when my life as I knew it came crashing down around me.

I worry about money all the time but thinking back I always did. I have had to change my lifestyle but my quality of life has not changed.

All I really have to say about money?

People place too much importance on money as it pertains to happiness. The two are seperate. Not one in the same. I don't begrudge anyone who worked hard to succeed what they have. In fact I applud them for it!

I have seen both poor people and rich one's who are greedy and self centered. I do not believe their tax bracket dictates such behavior. The same can be said for loyalty, honesty and character. These issues are not money related.

That's pretty much all I have to say about that.

Oh, and I'm relatively happy, but not wealthy.

I make as much money as I can because science has proven that if I have more money, I'll be happier and a better person.

Just as science has now shown that God caused a steady wind at Dawsons back for his kick, then caused an unusual sidewind to not allow Buffalos kick to hook back in.. all because BQ prayed for it.

I'm not rich and I'm not poor. I've been poor and although I worried about money then, as Pdawg said, I still do. I had some great times during those poor times, money has absolutely nothing to do with happiness.

If you and all the other people don't want to miss out on the Obama Reveloution you can just make out checks to me. I also accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. Please, no American Express. They expect you to pay for what you spend every month. How un-American.

Money doesn't buy happiness. I'm already happy, so now I want money!

I'm a school teacher, so I get paid enormous amounts of money to work 9 months a year, with weekends, holidays, and summers off. All I have to do is babysit some kids, and I still want more money and better benefits with each contract. I teach because I can't DO. It's such a good gig, I'm almost jealous of myself. I hope everyone's sarcasm filters are off!

There's a group of 6-8 of us that get together regularly to play cards. One night one of the younger guys brought his girlfriend. She decided that the high school teachers were smarter than the elementary teachers, which is why they taught high school. I told her I teach high school English and Paul teaches high school biology and asked which of us was smarter. She said he was because he's a scientist and besides everyone already knows how to speak English! (And before anyone asks, she wasn't one of my former students!)

Sometimes, New Year's Day falls on a Wednesday or Thursday, and we get to be off through the weekend, too!

I'd gladly give up several of those days off to have an extra few days for archery and gun season. (Our school actually closes for the first 2 days of our gun season because teacher and student absenteeism is so high otherwise.)

How much money do I make?

$9,000/year Stipend
$2,400/year Work Study
$2,000-5,000/Summer
____________________
$13,400-16,400 year
Plus Grad School is free on a Graduate Teaching Assistantship Tuition Waiver

On making that much money, I live in a three bedroom house with two other roommates. We divide it up so one pays the water bill/one pays Electricity/Gas, and one pays for Cable/Internet.

I also eat just fine (save a TON of money by getting everything at Costco) and am paying for trips to Cleveland in the summer for my brothers wedding and a trip to Cinci in March for a conference (which I can write off on my taxes). On top of all of this, my credit card debt is only $500 from when gas prices soared.

So:
How much better are you than others because of this?
Well, it taught me that as long as you stay close to your budgeting and actually plan everything out, you don't have to live in a run down shack if you don't make much money. Through putting just a small amount of each check aside the past 3 years, I also have over 2k in my savings account for an emergency.

how greedy are the people that make more than you?

Depends on how much more...since it pretty much encompasses the majority of the people in the country But I see people throwing money around like it means nothing all the time. I could sure use a bit of that spare cash.

How dumb are the people that dont agree you?
Pretty damn dumb A lot of people don't really realize how lucky they have it. At least I have the stability of knowing that I'll be making this money for sure though through the middle of 2010.

Are you a grasshopper or an ant?
I'm the little ant, trying to find anything that I can. I am at the school 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm. From there, I go home and work on any homework that I have and grade papers/create lesson plans for the classes that I teach. If I'm lucky, I'll get to bed around 2AM only to rinse and repeat. In other words, there's barely any time to even sleep, let alone get another job outside of school.

I also do work for the local production company that does the tours. In fact, tonight I'll be running spotlight for Carrie Underwood. It's only $10/hr for about 4-5 hours of work but every little bit of extra money always helps. Plus it's a lot of fun and a bit of a change of scenery. Coming up we have the NIN concert which I'm really excited about. Their show incorporates a lot of new technology that I can't wait to see how it all works out. It should be about as interesting as the Blue Man Group concert that we did last year. Underwood's should be amazing as well. Country concerts always have the biggest budgets. Heck, Brad Paisley even had custom semi trucks that advertised his tour. The Stones and Elton John didn't even have that.

So how much do you make?
Average American living...although this year I'll make about $3000 less than last year.

how much better are you than others because of this?
Not at all.

how greedy are the people that make more than you?
Fairly...the more zeroes you add a to paycheck the more greedy ppl get, IMO

How dumb are the people that dont agree you?
It never happens? I don't know..."Accept with no exceptions" is something I'm trying to do.

I am a Dental technician, I make a hell of alot less than I should be making. I know and am able to do more than 99% of the people in my field that I work with. Probably 85% make more money than I do and I work harder than pretty much every one of them. Theres people that have been there for 20 years and when they don't know how to do something guess who they come to. Yep the ole' Clutchster.

And with that being hard enough I pay the ex child support.

I used to think I was a grasshopper but it seems more evident lately that I am an ant or maybe that little speck of film that dry's up on ur mouth when ur really, really thirsty.

And absolutely YES more money would give me happiness.

I'm not rich, I'm not poor.
I have lived paycheck to paycheck in my life.
I've had to decide between paying the electric or paying the water in my life.
I have work 3 jobs simultaneously, and still just made enough to pay my bills, and have a little fun on Saturday night.
I quit a decent paying job, for what I thought would be be an improvement to my life. I was right, but that I took a big hit at first and it took me close to 10 years to climb back up and over.

I now do not 'worry' about money, although I respect it, and know I could at anytime face those same decisions and situations as I had earlier in life. But now I plan and have a backup to carry me for a short period if need be.

I don't know that if science has proven it, but my eyes have proven that rich old people look better than poor old people.....so make as much money as you can while you are young, because a lack of money will wear you out.

I have been told I look younger than my age.

j/c I make enough money such that I don't have to worry or think about it, but not so much that I can live flamboyantly. I'm more of a money hoarder because I want to retire someday. It would certainly put a dent in my happiness if I was stressed about money.

I don't think greed and amount of money are in any way related. I've met rich people who were extremely giving and poor people who were extremely taking. And then there's others who would say the opposite is true. Bottom line greed is a personality disorder and not a money disorder.

I guess I'm an ant.

So how much do you make?
Not enough for a family of 4. I currently make less than $30K a year but really believe it's temporary b/c I have a few goals I am working towards and I know the future will be good. Both my wife and I have picked up 2nd jobs working part-time with the wonderful Lisa aka BrownsBabe to help out. Mix in me going to school full-time and things are rough right now.

How much better are you than others because of this?
I am no better than anyone else but very envious of some. Like I said I have big goals in the future of owning my own business and home and truly think the struggles my family and I are facing builds character. I have a new respect for making my money go further and saving it, which is impossible for us. But I also know there are people far worse off than myself.

How greedy are the people that make more than you?
Some are greedy sure. What I can't stand are those that have money and try to rub it in people's faces. For example a relative of mine is rich and brags about the 5+ vacations they go on each year and actually asked me how I could afford such a hot car brand new? 2 days later they bought a new car and brought it by to show it off and made it a point of saying "and no payment like yours, ha ha"

How dumb are the people that dont agree you?
If they don't agree with me I pound on them till they see the light. or the stars Nah, I like when people disagree with me b/c if I think I'm right I love to debate.

Are you a grasshopper or an ant?
grasshopper. I am a worrier and always plan out every scenario so I am ready. Especially when it's financial related. My wife is horrible with money and it drives her nuts b/c I want every nickel we have to be accounted for.

Money definitely can't buy you happiness. I agree with both parts of what you said.

I make decent money. In my field, you're never going to be rich, but you're going to always make a decent living. Unless I screw up in life, I shouldn't have an excuse to be broke. If I really want to, I can work a lot of extra hours and make a good amount of money in OT and some bonus pay, but money isn't everything. Some people think it is. I used to think it was. I worked a lot of hours in highschool and college. I had a full time college schedule plus 16 hours in clinicals a week, and still worked 30-40 hours a week. At one point in time I actually had 2 jobs and worked over 40 hours while going to college full time and having clinicals for school on top of it.

I prefer to work my full time hours, pick up only when I need to/have to so I have time for myself, time for rest, time for family, and time for chores. I realized over time that money isn't the most important thing in life. It can interfere with these above things if you work too much.

Would I like more money? Of course, who wouldn't. Greed runs the world. I'm not hurting for money, but I don't make enough to do whatever I want whenever I want. Sometimes I wish my wife had a job that made more than she did because it would make it better.

Having not looked at your profile but by just reading your post I thought to myself, "This person sounds like they're a nurse." Sure enough you are.

I, like you, will never get rich but will always be in work unless I really screw up. Currently I only work about 32 hours a week. Mainly by choice, but also because of low census right now. Either way no sweat. My personal time is worth more than any pay. I use my extra time to get things done around the house, fish, and work on my art/production work. My wife out earns me by a fair amount so the money I make pays the mortgage and the rest gets put away. We are both dreaming of early retirement.

Ha, pretty cool you recognized it without knowing what I did.

Yeah, my wife works as a secretary at a doctor's office. Doesn't make great money. Basically just pays a few bills.

Nursing is something we'll always have. You or I can pretty much move anywhere we want and be able to get a job. With the way things are right now, I feel very secure in what I do. Raise is coming in 2 weeks, and my insurance rate dropped by almost $80/pay starting Janurary 1st! Woohoo, now I'm rich!

Yeah man nursing is a field thats always going to be in demand. I aways see ad's in the paper and hear the Cleveland hospitals holding career events for nursing and even offers to pay for school. Even the marketing manager at my job was talking about going to school for nursing. his cousin is a flight nurse and was talking to him about it and got him real interested.

Congrats on the raise BTW! My company has a lock on merit increases of 3% I'll be rolling in it for sure now, ugh. My benefits shot up like crazy and I had to change coverage from just me to the entire family. My wife had better insurance from work so she carried herself and the girls, but she got extremely upset and fed up with her job she up and quit and that was it. At my company I am only allowed to change my insurance once a year and only during an open enrollment period. if I kept just myself my rates jumped $20 a week. Now that I had to add everyone my rate really shot up $100 a week It's important though to have and theres not much I can do about it.

Our raise is also 3%. Last year we received 2%, 3% the year before that, and the rest of the years it was 4%. So it got better this year, though not as good as it used to be.

They changed insurance plans this year. We used to have 2 plans- the normal plan where you use our hospital system, and the one the FORCED me on to because of Kenleigh. It allowed us to go out of network, but you have to put the whole family on it, which stinks because it was just for her.

I can't complain too much because our rates aren't bad. For the family, it was just over $40 every 2 weeks for medical, dental, and vision. But it jumped to around $120 every 2 weeks when I was forced to switch. Our open enrollment is once a year also, which was this week and last week.

My wife has her own insurance now, so with the new plan I'm paying just $36 every 2 weeks, but our doc in Pittsburgh is considered Tier 3, so they cover a hell of a lot less. I gotta call HR because she's been established since before she was born, and I don't think that's right.

Between saving $80 a pay for insurance, my 3% raise, my bonus for precepting new nurses ($300) and my annual bonus ($235) that all will come between December and January, hopefully I'll start to be able to save some money again.

Never ceases to amaze me how I could be single, live in this house, and be able to stock away money. Now I'm married, have 2 incomes, and can't save a dime.
