Are there other ways to get the Home Beta? I just got a PS3 about a month ago.

Back in August they had a Home Theme they you could download from the PS Store. Downloading it was your application to be a beta tester for Home. That is the only way I am aware of.
Seriously though your not missing much. Hell the new update took all of the Games Spaces out, we lost all of the furniture, we still don't have the Audio and Video streaming, and we lost the summer house.
They don't have the game launching working yet. There really isn't any usefulness for Home "yet", besides meeting up with some friends and talking and playing mini games together.

Yeah. I checked an old email account and it seems that's where they sent the invite code. Could have been in it for a long time, but just got in.
I guess they took all that stuff out to do load testing on their end to test capacity.
PSN ID is ken7380 if anyone wants to play pool in the bowling alley.

Speaking of the Pool minigame. They need to check out GTA IV's pool and make it more like that.
My PSN ID is Letherface if you can't see my sig image.
They took out the Video and Audio streaming because they didn't want to deal lawsuits from people streaming pirated music and movies.
I hope they bring back the game spaces soon as well as add in the Socom space.
I see what Home "can" become in the full version. But they need to get the game launching to work, they need to get more game spaces. I couple more minigames would be great as well. But this is a beta and I realize what a beta means.

agreed.
I'm more of a Saints Row fan than GTA. Thought GTA was a bit over rated by everyone. You couldn't even make your own character, had to use some dumb russian.

How is it?
Well when I got in the beta it was version .98.
Once you first log in you install the "Home Space" which is your Harbor Studios apartment. At this point you can take one of the default characters or use the customization tools to try and make the avatar look like you.
As for the wardrobe the beta only allows a hand full of clothing options.
Once your done customizing your character you are standing in your "Home". There are only a couple peices of furnature you can use to decorate your Home. Beyond that there isn't much to do in your home space. None of my personal freinds got in the beta so I havn't tried inviting somone into my space.
Prior to version .98 they had video and audio streaming. Each person was able to have a TV and a Jukebox in thier home and you could invite poeple over and watch movies on the TV or listen to music on the Jukebox. So any video or music file on the PS3 HDD was able to be shared. From what I heard they worried about people sharing bootleg movies that are still in theater and that would cause lawsuits so they took out the service.
Also prior to .98 they had picture frames where you could have images saved on the PS3 HDD and you would be able to display them on your home space wall inside a picture frame. Again I heard they took this out because of fear that people would display images that are of mature content and then have underage people being able to view them so those were stripped as well from version .98.
There is a balcony on your home space that overlooks Santa Monica boardwalk and the Pacific Ocean. It's a nice view.
Then you have your front door. This leads to the "Central Plaza". The central plaza is the main common area that links all of the other main Home areas. In addition to the aparment building that will take each user to you home space there is a Theater, which shows trailers of upcomming games and movies. There is a mall, where you can purchase more items for your home. (Version .98 had a small variety of items to purchase) or play minigames like checkers and chess. Also there is Bowling alley, which has bowling (duh), an arcade with small mini games and pool tables. The central plaza connects all of these area's or you can hit the start button on the controller and jump to an area via the world map option. In the central plaza there is a music machine that plays generic music and there are two tv screens. One really large one that is playing the Socom Trailer and a smaller one that is playing the farcry 2 trailer.
Shortly after I got into Home Beta they added the Sully's Bar game space which is an Uncharted theamed space. There was an arcade minigame and a few locked doors. Once you got acces to each door there were some cool features like artifact viewers and other fun minigame objectives to do.
A few weeks ago they added the Farcry gamespace. I didn't get to test that one out because I was busy and didn't play my PS3.
Now we are on version 1.0 which is a stress test. They took out both the Farcry gamespace and Sully's bar. We lost all of the objects that were in the mall and everystore is empty. They added new arcade games in the bowling alley. Not much else to do.
As far as game launching, it don't work to well. I could invite you to play Socom. But instead of launching us into a game it will only launch us to the main title screen. We would still have to find each other once we are in the game so it's pretty pointless at this point in time.
That's about the best way I can describe home and it's experience at this point in time. I realize it's a beta and they don't want everything available yet. But I'm really hoping they get the Video and audio streaming thing worked out and added. As well as the picture frames. Also.....where the hell is the socom game space. How do you feature it in the November issue of Qore and then we still don't have it?

Sounds like it CAN be pretty cool once it's a full go, and if they get the a/v feeds and pictures back in. That adds to everyone's personality on there. Game launching was one of the big things they talked about, so I'm sure that will get fixed soon. I'm anxious to get into it. Wasn't invited when I downloaded that theme in the summer.
Thanks for the update.

It really is a nice view from the balcony. The loading wasn't taking a long time during the peak stress point either, and downloads are quick.

How did you get invited? Did you sign up or something?

For anyone that didn't get into the Closed Beta today Sony is launching the Open Beta of Home. It's Free for everyone and you can download it today when the Store is updated.
I hope they added back in all of the stuff they took out for the test. And I hope they have the Socom Space in there now.

I heard they will have 2 game spaces, not sure if socom was one of them.
There will be an icon on your ps3 under playstation network (same place as folding at home and ps store)
This icon will show up when beta goes live and once you open it you will have to download the actual data.
Kinda weird the icon is already on everyone's ps3's.

They are probably just adding back in the Farcry 2 space and the Uncharted Space then.

Yeah I heard the Euro's was good. A few things I want in Home are: 1) Music and Video streaming added back in. 2) Trophy room to sport and show off our Trophies (achievements) when we invite our freinds into our Home space. 3) Socom Space.
