There will be no more quarterback controversy in Cleveland this season.

FOXSports.com has learned that Browns quarterback Brady Quinn is done for the year after doctors revealed that the break to his right index finger has gotten worse since he's tried to play through the injury.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8850902/Sources:-Quinn-to-miss-rest-of-season

Team sources said that Quinn and the team made the decision together earlier today. Sources say that not only has the break in his right index finger worsened, but it is also starting to injure the tendons as well.

Derek Anderson will return as starter. Quinn met with renowned doctor James Andrews and the Browns brought in specialists as well.

A team source said that all agreed that Quinn needed to shut it down before the tendons tore from the bone.

Didn't RAC say he couldn't injure his finger anymore than he did and it wasn't serious?

Wow...this freaking sucks...what's there to look forward to now?

Right. Still, this stinks.

We barely got enough of a look at Quinn to be comfortable going forward next year.

My bet is that DA plays better than he has. Now the pressure is off.

This will be interesting.

I'm neither comfortable nor uncomfortable with Quinn. I didn't see enough of him to tell one way or another.

Well, we had hardly any injuries last year and getting killed this year.. I was thinking the other day, the last 2 years happend in reverse. We had a good year and bad year this year. If this year was last year and last year was this year we would be loving life..

Oh well. Hopefully we right the ship in 09...

This season is now an official TOTAL WASTE. We have no idea what we have in Quinn and now we won't know till next year.

Great.

So we'll dump DA in the offseason and then later find out that Quinn is the next Ryan Leaf, while DA leads a team to the playoffs. It cannot happen any other way.

Great! We don't get enough of a look at Quinn to tell if he has 'it'. Also, he doesn't get enough experience in game situations.

What's going to happen now - Derrick Anderson is going to play poorly, thus diminishing any decent trade value he would have had. This is Cleveland, it can't happen any other way.

It was a waste when Romeo took the FG against Dallas and left the team still down three scores,....

Now it has been exacerbated by injury. And not just to Quinn.

This kind of bad luck means there is a football god, and he thinks it ain't our turn.

The situation has to get better; it cannot get any worse.

Well,...Anderson takes us through 5 straight wins, we make the playoffs, and RAC keeps his job,.....

Hypothetical Question:

What if DA looks like Pro Bowl DA for the rest of the year?

What do we do then? Still trade DA? Keep DA? Trade Quinn?

If DA throws 65 TDs and 0 INTs the rest of the way, I want absolutely no part of him at all whatsoever into the future ... turn this thing over to Quinn next year and don't look back.

I don't understand why everyone is fretting over this. It shouldn't change one single thing at all. DA will still be gone, and Quinn is our future. And that's the way it should be. And Quinn will have an entire offseason to prepare as the starter.

Bright skies are ahead ... then again, we are talking about the Browns ... LOL.

Well, I guess this means that both quarterbacks will be on the roster next season, there is no way we can go with Quinn after how little we have seen from him.

Ive heard it twice now on ESPN (TV)

they said...that he cant do anything football for 6 weeks. and thatll end our season. So thats why hes "done for the year"

it isnt like this is a 4 month injury...its a 6 week thing, and he may need surgery, which i dont imagine causing it to last any longer. He'll be fine by January

He's done it for five weeks in the past...doesn't mean it's a forever thing.

Yes. He's not reliable -- this much we KNOW. BQ may not be either, but we don't KNOW that yet.

That's not necessarily true.

It could happen, but it's far from a certainty.

The cap notwithstanding, I'd like both QB's to enter camp with an equal chance to win the gig. Whichever one has a better command of the offense gets the job. The other becomes a valuable backup. THEN we can make a final determination going into 2010.

I don't think it'd happen that way, but it's what I want.

At some point, this staff (and maybe the fanbase too) is going to have to have some faith in the guy that they drafted to be the #1 guy for the next 10 years. There has to be some belief based on everything they (and we) know about this guy that he is the one.

We have our future quarterback ... his name is Quinn ... and he is going to be the guy that finally gets us to the promised land. We don't need to see anymore of him to know this. We've seen enough. We know the measurables. This is the guy.

Intelligence? Check.
Work Ethic? Check.
Natural Born Leader? Check.

These are the three biggest intangibles you can ask for in a quarterback ... the three BIGGEST .. .and he's got them all. Why is everyone so worried? We should be on cloud nine that we've finally got that guy that we've been waiting for since Kosar.

Now let's fix the rest of the team ... and we are in business.

There is a chance the FO will screw this up somehow, but I'm crossing my fingers that won't happen ... especially if Lerner is a Quinn fan ... and I think he is.

I am so glad you are not running the team.

Commit to Quinn and quit this stupid charade. Seriously, if they pull this crap again in the offseason ... I'm joining a bowling league that plays on Sundays.

I don't disagree...that's why I said we should get rid of DA since we know what he's about. I have more faith in Quinn after a couple games than I'll ever have in Anderson.

Were you one of the ones saying this about Ben Gay after his first 2 games?

To be honest, Quinn's outings have left me very nervous. He gets a pass on that feeling because of his green status...but now that he's done for the year...NO WAY I want DA gone. And I think if Savage sticks, he keeps both...

DA may have proven that he isn't the guy...but Quinn is yet to prove or disprove that he's any better...which should leave us a bit scared.

Otay.. I've been kicking all this around, what I'm wondering at this point is if surgery to the finger / tendon is indicated. I wont see that come from the Browns as that information would need to be released by Brady. While I was wondering about surg, I got to getting curious about Dr James Andrews.. googled him and found a pretty darn decent read (yep, it's a long one) I thought I'd share it for those that might be interested in him too..

Read that statement over and over to yourself and tell me how it makes any sense at all to keep them both ... and really how it makes any sense at all to keep DA ... if you really feel what you said there ... you left yourself an out with the term "may", but I don't believe you think DA is the guy.

So read it again 100 times or a 1000 times or whatever it takes, and tell me how a sound, logical, intelligent person would make the case to keep DA.

So what are we going to do if Quinn isn't the guy? Go back to a guy who we also know isn't the guy? GMAFB ...

Commit to Quinn ... it's that simple. The playbook has been toned down for him ... he's been handcuffed ... he did well with what he was given ... he has given us no indications at all he won't do well with additional plays ... he's tough, intelligent ... a leader ... will not make excuses ... will face the music if he needs to ... will look at himself in the mirror and know he needs to play better when needed ... this is everything we want ... this is the guy we gave up a CRAPLOAD for ...

Why in the world wouldn't we commit to him? That's just STUPID. People are making this 1000x harder than it needs to be.

Why do we need to see more to know more ... have a little faith as a fanbase ... and as a FO ... make a freakin' executive decision. Enough with this indecisive crap. I can handle it from fans like you ... I can't handle it from the guys who make the big bucks.

Nooooooo!

Why doesn't he just throw it left handed? Probably would still be more accurate than DA.....

Man, I really wanted to see how he progressed through this last month and get the experience under his belt for next season.

I did not agree with Crennel benching Quinn for poor performance (which is why he benched him) but it looks like it might have been better for Quinn after all. Crennel actually made a good move by mistake.

I am going to be optimistic and say that DA will play well the rest of the year and convince a few sucker teams that he is worth a bidding war over. We accept a 2nd round draft pick for him and commit to Quinn. While we may not know what we have in Quinn, I am pretty sure I know what we have in DA and that is inconsistency. One good game one bad game doesn't work in the playoffs!
