Nooooooo!

Why doesn't he just throw it left handed? Probably would still be more accurate than DA.....

Man, I really wanted to see how he progressed through this last month and get the experience under his belt for next season.

Wow.

Well ... this sucks for Quinn.

Now, as far as all of the hating on DA ...... Quinn really didn't do much (if any) better. He had one great game against the worst defense in the NFL ..... then a couple of pretty bad games. His season completion percentage is hovering around 50%. Hardly inspiring,

Anyway ... I have to wonder what people think of Crennel pulling Quinn now. People railed against Crennel because he pulled Quinn ..... and now it turns out that his decision was validated. The bile spewed forth by certian posters was pretty intense. I wonder if they still feel the same way now that this has come out?

I really don't hate DA. Just being funny.

I really do think DA is inaccurate and inconsistent, though. I think we've gone around this enough.

Anyways, yes, there's more issues on this team than the QB. I think if other areas on this team got their shtuff together, it would elevate the QB play. In the limited amount of time we did get to see Brady, he had some intangibles that I didn't see in DA. People think arm strength = great QB. DA has the arm, but I don't see that leadership, poise and confidence. We just didn't see enough of Quinn to make a judgement on him. Though his numbers weren't much better than DA's (and his averages were a little bit better), he showed me some things that I've never seen with Anderson.

I still don't understand why everyone seems to think DA is soooooooooo bad.

I don't get it.

I think its also funny that we went from blaming the QB, to blaming the HC, to blaming the owner in a matter of weeks. Its kool that fans can make such amazing judgements. The fans should just coach Clevelands team. I mean, Browns fans Always know whats best for their team.

Brady Brady Brady (changing QB's made such a HUGE difference, didn't it. )

Cowher Cowher Cowher (So many Clevelanders want to be the Steelers, Pittsburgh West---its sad.)

I don't get it.

We all know Phil is a smart GM. Knowing the "big brother" type of officiating that goes on here it is a must to keep your opinions professional. So my college educated self will continue to do so. Now lets look at what is really going on. Every week we have Dr Jekel and Mr Hyde. This situation usually starts on Defense and continues on Offense, however; there is no set rule for how it will occur each week. We have beaten the coaching situation down to a level to where there is not really any motivation to talk about it any more. But, on a side note, Mike Singletary would be my first choice for Defensive Cord, if indeed SF decides to move on after this year. San Francisco, the twilight zone of the United States of America, where face lifts and bong smoke are more common and than the government giving AIG CEO's money for a weekend getaway. The topic here is not wither or not the auto industry knows they build cars and not jet plans (and trust me any criticism of that industry is constructive). The common denominator that ties Derek Anderson, San Francisco and AIG together is business. One company always has something the other does not, and it works in cycles. The folks of the fine city of Cleveland have what could be the greatest thing since 10cent beer night, (if you remember it you weren't there). Why wouldn't the browns tell Brady to take it easy, we saw a glimpse, not the fans the NFL. Now all eyes will be on Derek Anderson.

Now lets be honest with each other, we are really hungry. Since our teams left in 1994 we have watched a man who dressed as Santa Clause win a super bowl trophy and the team from over East accomplish an incredible championship run. At this point we, as Browns fans, are salavating over a christmas wish list for this year.

5. Every game to have a blizzard of epic proportions.
4. the Dawg Pound to start an "I Pity the Fool" section for our favorite mohawked DT.
3. Braylon Edwards to drop less important things. like the 5 Hour Energy Jinx.
2. The return of what we all knew as Municipal Stadium.
1. A shiney statue that looks like a kicking tee for a god.

That is my list, and that's why I am a fan. I don't much look into the business aspect. Upon further review starting Derek is a great call. Not only for a chance to prove himself, but a chance for our franchise to see what direction we will be heading in the next few months. Everybody wants to see Brady, including myself (i have tickets for this Sunday). Let the kid rest and take care of the main component to throwing a ball. The guy has played with this team before, and I am sure he was watching the Titans beat Jim Sorgi.

Giving Derek Anderson an opportunity by letting your young quarterback stay healthy gives this team the best chance to win at this point. We could possibly see the best yet out of number 3 Sunday.

Yes, Pittsburgh is obviously a franchise you do not want to copy...

You're telling me you are not in the least bit jelous of how they have been able to run their organization for the past...15 years or so?

It's not that he's soooooooo bad, it's those things you don't see at the combine or in drills. It's stuff that you only see in game time, in tough times. And it's inconsistencies that we all have seen. Unless your name is Stevie Wonder.

The guy has the tools, but I'm not sure if he knows what to do with them. It's like the guy who gets the best set of tools money can buy from his wife for Christmas. Just because he has them, it doesn't make him a carpenter.

I don't see the leadership, poise, or confidence on the field that the good QB's have. I see him continuously struggle with touch and being off target on specific throws. He hasn't shown improvement. It doesn't mean he's an awful QB. When the rest of his team does their jobs and helps him out, he can be a solid QB. I just don't think he'll ever be a great QB.

BTW, my above comment about Brady throwing lefty was a joke. This season went to hell in a handbasket, and I can't help but crack a joke. This season has been one.

Oh. Well. Since you put it THAT way....

My decision has CLEARLY changed! After three games, come to think of it, Quinn MUST be the man!

GMAFB!

Quinn might be the man and he might not, but only blind faith one way or another would lead a person to make a snap judgement like that. After three games, Quinn hasn't answered the questions that followed him out of college. I've seen good out of him, and I've seen bad, neither of which are enough to make a reasonable person believe he's a bum or a God.

Thanks for the confidence boost, but you'll forgive me if I wait and see for myself. I prefer to be a critical thinker, not a sheep.

Man Da has got to be that friend of yours that beats up all the bullies that picked on you on the playground.

Wake up will you. let me brake it to you,DA SUCKS.

AT the beginning of the season I told A friend of mine DA would be just good enough to ruin the season for us.

I know you can't blame him for the drops and the defense not stopping anyone but as we all can see except Tyler_Derden

DA good game
DA bad game

I just can't take it anymore.
I haven't missed a game in 15 yrs.watched the Browns for over 30 yrs.

When The Bengals were winning and Columbus wasn't showing the Browns I bought NFL Sunday ticket so I wouldn't miss a game. But I don't see me watching them this week.

AS THE SAYING GOES AND GOES AND GOES.

WAIT TO NEXT YEAR.
Just please give it a break,if you chose to think DA is so good, that is your choice, but you will never convince anyone on here because we know what we see.

Just heard this on my way home from work, i'm pretty depressed.
My next thought went all the way back to how he started his career here . . . he would have been the starter (most likely) had he not held out.

yea, pretty depressed here also as was wanting to see how Quinn would fair against tougher defenses.

also as others have said the only thing the rest of this season had to look forward to was watching Quinn.

Heck DA will probably look just good enough that the QB controversy will carry over to next year. I just don't think I can take that any longer.

I believe that we could have beat Denver and Houston with DA instead of Quinn in the game.

I think DA showed a lot last year, and this years offense just wasn't as good as last years and DA was the scapegoat for that.

Thats how I feel about it. I saw DA play pretty good through the season last year, went 10-5 as a starter.

I saw us start this year with many issues on offense, and watched as issues continued to build---then the fans began chanting for Brady thinking that it would make some magical difference---or b/c they needed to pressure the coaching staff into showing off their "QB of the future." Then I saw no real difference, and so fans climbed up the ladder to the coach, and then the owner.

This years offense was awful running the ball, awful at throwing the ball, awful at catching the ball, and pretty downright awful at calling the game. I believe that a lot of that boils down to personnel this year, some guys got older, some guys got injured, and we faced some tougher matchups.

I think benching DA was pretty lame, I think our O line looks pretty suspect at times, I think Jamal is not what he was last year, I think not having a legitimate #2 receiver hurt us, I think BE and K2 played very poorly this year, I think we had way too many issues in the locker room, etc. etc.

I think that blaming people and pointing fingers is stupid at this point, and has been most of the season.

I think we performed the way we did this season b/c of injuries, and poor play from guys who were supposed to carry this team----this goes beyond DA.

I probably just don't understand anything about the game---or maybe I'm a Quinn--hater cuz I say this, or maybe I'm just a realistic Browns fan that recognizes that problems with this team this year went beyond just one player or coach. It was collective effort to suck as bad as we have. IMO Edwards was one of the BIGGEST offensive problems this year, J. Lew hurt us, and I think Chud is having a sophmore slump type thing---the guy seems pretty predictable.

This is too much! I've been reading this board for some seven years and it never changes ... one person says one Qb, another says the other Qb. And it always seems selective comments or the extreme opposite is used to buttress their argument, while ignoring the full picture. You just did the same thing!

Look, no one KNOWS anything for sure about either Quinn or DA. But, you cite that Quinn hasn't overcome his college-level concerns. OK, great, he hasn't. However, DA hasn't either, with a ton more starts than Quinn. His college-level concerns were consistent inaccuracy, lack of short throw touch and a high interception rate. Guess what? He still has 'em.

Why don't you comment with that in mind when you try to give the impression of 'critical thinker'?

After I heard on Mike and Mike yesterday (at least I think it was Mike and Mike...may have been Sirius NFL Radio), that BQ was going to Alabama to see Dr. Andrews, I knew he'd be out at least a couple of games. So, the rest of the season doesn't surprise me at all.

Still sucks, but not completely unexpected.

The decision to let him play Sunday is inexcusable.

"Um... we don't THINK it will get worse, so you should play."

And now, we know that playing and practicing with it made it worse... Thank goodness it was a finger and not a knee.

Someone else said it, but the organization needs an enema.

I just yacked all over my PC screen when I read this.

Seriously, have we ever had a year that sucked as much as this one? At least in 99 and 00, we new were going to suck. What's next, is Lerner going to announce he's moving the team to LA??

On a bright side, at least Sunday's will be freed up! Wait nevermind, that means I'll have to go shopping with the wife. Ehh....on second thought, I can't wait to watch this weeks game!

I guess I'll throw my $0.02 in here.

When did Browns fans become a bunch of 3rd grade girls?

I remember a while back, someone was saying that he admired Mike Tomlin because when he was faced with injuries, he said "well, we just expect the next guy to come in and fill the spot just as well as the injured guy."

Wanna talk about a culture of losing?

We lose a QB who has played THREE games this season, and people are ready to take a bridge. You wanna talk about giving me a freakin' break.

Is BQ the man? Who knows. Is DA the man? Who knows. But isn't it about time we just EXPECT the next guy to come in and do his job?

Did the Steelers fans all cry and moan when Big Ben went down? Did Patriots fans whine this much when Brady went down?

C'mon folks. As bummed as I am that Quinn got hurt, I refuse to get the sniffles about it. I expect DA to come in and perform at a high level, just like I expected BQ to when he came in.

Stop the culture of whining, stop the culture of losing.

Why do Cleveland fans always get a lump of coal in their stockings?

It's Thanksgiving folks, no time to cry in your beer. So on to the off the wall post of the day - or how much of an Oklahoma homer can I be?

We trade BQ in the off season. He'll still probably have better trade value than DA because everyone already knows what DA can't do. This will insure we suck for 2009, if we suck enough, figuring that's a safe bet, we'll get 1st pick over all 2010 draft.

Enter Sam Bradford QB from OU who will have completed his Junior year and won the Heisman for the 2nd year in a row and decides to come out early. We draft him - God smiles on our team and we spend the next 10 years as SB Champs!

If you think this post is then your powers of deduction are in tact.

So what is your silver lining from this debacle?

Now see, that's a very positive way of looking at it. At this point, the only thing that DA can do is raise his value.. I doubt he could lower it much more than it already is..

So it's a win win

lol, point well taken.

I guess what I meant was that I am tired of setting my expectations low with this team. Am I setting myself up for a massive letdown? Potentially. But I just refuse to take the "woe is us" attitude.

Arch, I gotta say that was a good one. Right back at me. ...except where yours was just complete venemous garbage ... mine at least has a little validity ... we do know about Quinn ... what is this we know very little crap? I swear everyone is making this way too difficult.

OT ... so you want to have an open QB competition. Why? Give me one example in our history where an open QB competition ever ended favorably for the team.

Why not go with the guy that we gave up so much for? For crying out loud, there were reasons that we decided to do that. Have some freakin' faith in why we made a freakin' decision. Why continue with this experiment? This experiment is just another in a long list of dysfunctions with this franchise. Commit to the guy who you already projected to be your long-term starter, not the guy who caught a flash of lightning.

It's not the rocket science everyone is making it out to be. Critical thinker? How's this for my critical thinking skills ... I thank the Almighty you do not run any company that I work for. ... Can you say bankrupt? No, you GMAFB ...

So, we'll have our QB competition and Quinn will miss meaningful reps. And just maybe, he's more of a gamer than a practice player ... and just maybe he loses. Meanwhile, the Flaccos and Ryans of the world are becoming seasoned guys and continue to kick are arses all over the place.

This FO needs to make an executive freakin' decision and trust in that decision. An open QB competition says "we are afraid to make the big decisions". Is that the people you want running the show? Oh wait, yes it is. Crikey...

If we commit to Quinn, the worst case scenario is he is not the guy and we have to go find the guy. Why prolong that? I just don't get it.

I have to wonder what people think of Crennel pulling Quinn now

I think the best move would have been to not play him at all. I mean, come on, a broken bone on the index finger of his throwing hand? Go pick up a football, and tell me how anyone can hold, let alone throw, a football without the full strength in their index finger. To me it is yet another poor decision by this coaching staff...

I don't know that it is whining and crying as much as it is disappointment. This year is basically over and the one thing many people were looking forward to was seeing Quinn improve over these last games and see if we possibly have our franchise QB. People wanted him to get the experience this year so that a lot of the growing pains would be gone for next year. That's all out the window now....

And anyone here trying to compare the play between Anderson and Quinn after these few starts and half the playing time of Quinn with a broken finger needs to pull their lips off of Derek's behind.

If you can point to anywhere in my post where I talked about Derek Anderson, I'll listen. Otherwise, you missed the mark........badly.

EDIT: Ok Chet, you're combining my posts. I get it now.

I've never stated Anderson would be a 62% passer, even when he was going strong last year. In that regard, he's limited. It's factored into my thinking. However, I've seen accuracy issues with Quinn when going down the field. He didn't answer those questions over these past three games. He brings a completely different game to the table from the QB position.

As for both QB's, they are both very young. They didn't get to show what they could do because they are under center of a dysfunctional offense. I can excuse Quinn because of that, just as I can excuse Anderson. Isn't it amazing how both QB's have nearly identical ratings and comp percentage, despite the fact they are two very different QB's? I know people can say that Anderson had more time under center, and they'd be right. Conversely, I can say Anderson was a developmental QB while Quinn was touted as being "NFL-ready" coming out of a "pro-style system" having been taught by a "pro-style QB guru." If you want to point to Anderson's college scouting report, I can point to Quinn's and say he ALSO had accuracy issues, and came into the league with questions about his big-game play. Have those questions been answered? No, they haven't. Granted, he hasn't played in a "big game" yet, but he sure hasn't answered the questions about his accuracy.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I know Anderson's short-comings. If he improved enough from last year to where his rating goes up just 5 or 6 points to the high 80's, that'd be plenty good enough for me. Same goes for Quinn. Considering that Quinn was supposed to be more NFL-ready, by this next training camp, I'd expect both players to be at nearly the same point in their development. For my thinking, that would mean the cream would rise to the top, so let the best man win.

Uggh, might as well make a joke about an otherwise depressing situation to lighten the mood. The way this season's going you can't help but make jokes...

"Now I'm Done!"

that's awsome. I hate to see anybody get injured, hopefully he heals up. I'm not sure he's the QB or not, but he's made some good throws and displayed some good poise under pressure. I do believe that if Anderson lights it up like last year a new coach is going to have a difficult decision to make. (despite my sarcasm in the Indy thread, i'm not anti-quinn. I just don't think he's evaluated the same as Anderson is by the fans)

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I believe that we could have beat Denver and Houston with DA instead of Quinn in the game.

The irony here is thick enough to choke someone.
