I don't think it'd happen that way, but it's what I want.
I am so glad you are not running the team.
Commit to Quinn and quit this stupid charade. Seriously, if they pull this crap again in the offseason ... I'm joining a bowling league that plays on Sundays.
That's really unfair to Anderson. I know you there's a huge amount of haters on this board, but you can't ignore what the guy did last year, you can't. He's respected by his teammates. Anderson threw tons of TDs last year. We got 10 wins, some we won with last minute drives by DA. Now he does have his problems, he really does, but he needs a chance to work on them too.
So I don't get labeled a Anderson die hard...
I've been impressed with some of the Quinn throws. I've also been impressed on his scrambling skills. It's almost like Chuck Frye with brains.
Judge them equally, not just based on your favorite, because it's not as cut and dry as folks make it out to be. I have a feeling that a new coach would follow Toad's suggestion, because if we pick wrong, it'll be 2 years till we find out.
If the guy is Quinn, great! I'm behind him. I think it's too early to pick Quinn or Anderson as the QB.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Jules, I agree with you. I'm just as disappointed as anyone else. But there are some (many?) who I believe have crossed the line from "disappointed" to "chicken little."
We've always had the deep end jumpers here. Remember the Winslow accident and the Bentley injury? The sky was falling in huge chunks for these people.
The thing is, we continued to lose after these things so, the sky might as well have fallen. Winning cures all, nobody would be having a cow if we DID have a culture of winning. One breeds the other.

OT ... so you want to have an open QB competition. Why? Give me one example in our history where an open QB competition ever ended favorably for the team.
So I get to limit the discussion to 1/32nd of the data in the history of the NFL. What's more, I have to question why Cleveland's history should be so special as to warrant a bending of the Universal rules which dicated probability and causality.
Quote:
Why not go with the guy that we gave up so much for? For crying out loud, there were reasons that we decided to do that.
It would stand to reason that at some point we should. However, I don't like handing the job to anyone for no other reason than "because we drafted him." That's what we did with Frye. Had Quinn come in and been lights-out, I'd be more inclined to say the job should be his, but he didn't, so I can't. Now that isn't to say the Browns won't go in that direction. I simply wouldn't share that view, which would be yet another example of Browns decisions that I haven't agreed with over the years. Many of those decisions have proven to be flawed on their part.
Quote:
So, we'll have our QB competition and Quinn will miss meaningful reps. And just maybe, he's more of a gamer than a practice player ... and just maybe he loses.
It'll be Quinn's 3rd year. He should be ready by that point. BTW, I've never bought into the belief that a player is a "gamer" who looks bad in "practice." There are one or two players throughout history who've been of that ilk, but the overwhelming majority aren't.
If Quinn is the better QB, he'll show it in practice. If he's not, he won't. It's that simple.
Quote:
This FO needs to make an executive freakin' decision and trust in that decision. An open QB competition says "we are afraid to make the big decisions".
Uh-huh. Keep in mind that said FO chose NOT to make a blind-faith decision after last season. The result? We aren't starting Ken Dorsey this week.
Prior to that, the FO made the blind-faith decision to hand the job to Frye, despite the fact he was a "gamer, not a practice player."
If Quinn is a good enough player, if Quinn is mentally tough enough, simply put, if he's the guy you think he is, an open QB competition should make him play BETTER, not worse. He'd win the job, and we'd all have our answer.

Talk football. Insults show your insecurity. Tyler, Me, Toad, and others are simply pointing out that there is NO way you can't judge quinn from the first 3 games. We don't know if he's the one. Why is that so insulting for some folks? I saw the houston game live and believe me it wasn't a game i'd hang my hat on showing quinn to be 'it'. Those where the same games Anderson was nailed to the wall for.

I have to wonder what people think of Crennel pulling Quinn now
I think the best move would have been to not play him at all. I mean, come on, a broken bone on the index finger of his throwing hand? Go pick up a football, and tell me how anyone can hold, let alone throw, a football without the full strength in their index finger. To me it is yet another poor decision by this coaching staff...
I've been one of the first in line to bash Crennel for a couple of seasons now, and with great cause. However, Crennel isn't a doctor. He listened to what the doctors said, which is that Quinn could play. He listened to Quinn, who said he could play.
By all accounts, the injury wasn't serious. Crennel had no choice but to start Quinn based on the data he received.

Agreed. If you listen to Crennel's presser's, the guy doesn't exactly sound like Doogie Howser. Quinn has a finger, Vickers has an ankle, Rogers has a rib......
Quinn was ok'd to play by an orthopaedic surgeon. Crennel trusted this decision. Quinn got a second opinion by the reknowned Dr. James Andrews, and it was recommended for him to stop throwing until it heals, so after meeting with Quinn, they came to a mutual decision on it.
Crennel has nothing to do with this, but should also take some credit for pulling him out if he had any inkling that the "finger" was affecting throws. (Nothing to do with a few misreads he had, though).

Why does everybody leave out the fact that DA is a young quarterback as well. Think about it. BQ this year, in speaking in terms of experience, is just like what DA faced coming into last year. They both are QBs under 25 and have not fully developed. My theory is some people perform better without a potential replacement knocking on their doors and DA is one of them. I have a feeling with BQ not in the picture, he will perform well, now statistically it may not show because of the issues that BE, Winslow, JL, and the OL are having this year. If DA does play lights out the rest of the year with no pressure from the hometown hero, why not trade Quinn? If BQ is "so good" and "such a great leader" we should get value out of him, right?
I'm not a BQ hater or DA lover by any means. I've seen strengths and weeknesses of both QBs after watching every game from the last 2 years. I can't quit hoping DA turns into something because what he has issues with regarding an inaccurate short game and leadership can be corrected with experience. Eli Manning comes to mind. He was a very inconsistent QB in his first seasons, but he developed overtime with a staff that supported him and without threat of replacement.

Good take,..I just want somebody to succeed. I believe there are some of us who just feel we didn't go to Quinn early enough. I wanted to see what the kid had especially in light of Derek performing as though he didn't (have "it.") There are a lot of factors to weigh that some of us don't know about, and I don't even pretend to know. Now, the injury has re-paved the path, so I'm getting behind Derek.

My thoughts exactly. I would have liked to see more out of Quinn, but that neither here nor there.
I'm expecting to get crucified on here for sugesting a trade scenario with BQ. LOL. Though in reality I would like both on our roster for at least a few more years. That would set both QBs up for success in the league in the long run. If Quinn is merely a backup his whole time here and DA remains the better of the two in this system, then that gives him the chance to show what he has learned when he steps in as a starter for antoher team. Quinn will start many games in the future.

You will get crucified Yet while such a scenario is unlikely, it's not out of the question.
The odds of Anderson turning back around behind this offense aren't good. In fact, the odds of Anderson becoming a legit starter are probably less than 50%. But in the NFL, even the best of the best never know how things will turn out, so scenario's popping up which lead to an eventual trade of Quinn exist, even if they are unlikely.

Who'd think that Warner would be starting instead of what's his face?
I think with JJ and an edwards without he head up his butt DA looks almost as good as last year. JMHO. make some of the same dumbass throws, but makes the "trade quinn" thing a possibility.

I admit that DA didn't play well the first 3 3/4 games. A continual poor performance by BE and a lack of a running game comes into factor and cannot be ignored either. He started to come around and played exceptionally well in the Giants game and good enough to win in against the Skins and Baltimore round 2. The biggest downfall of this season has been to the following:
Key injuries Poor Defensive performance Poor play by key players offensively- BE, JL, Winslow Coaching mistakes
Elliminate one factor and we are talking about a different season.

Is it "possible" they both stay? Of course. One QB has to go, we cannot afford the situation we had this season. The controversy just kills the team, it takes away the teams focus and splits the locker room. DA must go, just pray he looks competent these last few games...most likely he'll look like he has all year. We've seen enough of DA, we havent seen enough of Quinn...sorry DA supporters, he is the odd man out, you cant have 2 sheriffs.

DA is DA...we've seen plenty...youll get your fill these last few weeks. I;m not saying he cant get alittle better...but the dumb throws, poor leadership, low com %...and the missed 5 yds throws.
Those will always be there, just as BE's drops will ALWAYS be there...its whether or not it can be managed.
THANK GOD another regime will handle this one, so the wrong QB is chosen/kept for the third straight year.

If DA goes and performs like a Probowler on another team and Quinn is a flop, we will continue to be the laughingstock of the league. I don't know about others on here, but I'm tired of fishing for a QB and losing.
We'll have to take it week by week and see how DA rebounds the rest of the games. The one guy this whole thing rides on is Edwards IMO.

That's just it homer. It's not about that anymore. We can't go into every year in "figure out" mode. We need to make a commitment. The only thing that "figure out" mode does is prevent you from figuring out anything. We should make a commitment to the guy we put all our chips in on, and he has done nothing in the limited time I've seen him to indicate it was a poor choice. Don't forget, there is a reason why we gave up so much for him. The FO needs to have a little bit of trust in themselves and their decision making. We cannot have uncertainty at the QB position to be a successful franchise. We will never turn the corner. These two QBs cannot - and I repeat cannot - continue to coexist on this team. It will tear this team down. Neither guy will be able to have a bad game. It is not in the best interest of Cleveland Browns football to go into next year with both of these guys. My editorial comment to take that a step further is it is not in the best interest of the Browns to have DA on the roster at all next year. BrownsFanZ, you're wrong. We want DA to play poorly and cut our losses with whatever we can get. We DON'T want this FO to have anything at all to consider. I don't have confidence they'll do what I want them to do.

Immediately after we were promoted from 2nd grade. Now I gotta toss my 2 cents in. We're up to 4 cents we're doing better than the banks. Seriously here's my thinking, this seasons is in the crapper. We're not going to make the playoffs so what do I want to see? I want to see something that'll give an old fool like me hope for next year. I was hoping we'd see enough Quinn to get settled at QB but no... instead we get DA the sequel. Best case, he plays well and we're right back to where we were last year except we wasted a year. I'm not happy about it.
Why is it whineing to say this sucks? We are the customers. If you bought a box of cereal and it tasted like ear wax. Would it be OK to say hey this tastes bad I don't want anymore, can you believe they sold me cereal that tastes like ear wax? Or should we just expect the next box to taste better.

Quinn done for the season Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 11.26.2008 Want breaking Browns' news delivered to your phone? Text ‘browns' to 65579.
The Browns have lost Brady Quinn for the season due to an injury to his right index finger.
"Brady is going to need time or surgery for his finger to heal," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. "Brady will make a determination in the near future whether he'll take the time or have surgery to heal the finger.
"He wants to play. He was excited to play. But for his career, he has to get it healed."
Crennel said Quinn could choose to keep the finger in a splint for six weeks or have the surgery. He said Quinn could make the decision in the next couple of days.
"After the (Houston) game he was re-evaluated and it was determined the finger was not healing," Crennel said. "After it heals, he'll be good. This will not be a long-term thing.
"I had planned for Brady to be the quarterback. When he comes back, he will be the quarterback."
Crennel said the Browns have not yet placed Quinn on injured-reserve and that the team plans to sign quarterback Richard Bartel to the practice squad.
In the meantime, Joshua Cribbs will be the emergency quarterback behind Derek Anderson and Ken Dorsey.
Stay tuned to ClevelandBrowns.com for more throughout the day.

Well without argument we now have 5 games to determine what trade value DA has, Ya losing Brady stinks, but DA'as trade value isnt real good at the present time and maybe this little injury will help us get a 2nd instead of a third or a extra pick somewhere. This years over anyway so this might be a blessing in disguiess.

NOw if we could just get BE and KW2 to make circus catch after circus catch, and play the Rams, Lions, Chiefs, Raiders, Seahawks, Texans...every other week we set Toad! And DA can thrive!
Or in 2008 when we went 4-12....I cant believe this has started AGAIN....DA vs. BQ.
Want them both on the team? That will work out...lets do the same thing and expect something different.
Hew, I'm not even remotely worried about DA being a pro bowl alternate for another team, he cannot overcome the film out on him now.
Funny thing, nobody threw the farm at us last offseason for DA, but several teams have thrown the farm at us for BQ.

No QB is going to see his value go up throwing to the invisible Stallworth, the emotional scrambled-egg that is this version of Edwards, and the new king of offensive pass interference penalties that is Winslow, especially since Winslow's so wrecked physically that he can't even practice.
Then there's Chud's questionable game-plan, and a defense that puts the offense in a hole every game to the point where we can't keep defenses honest by running the ball because we have to throw to catch up.
Getting hurt might be the best thing for Quinn.

I'll maintain that a new coach/GM doesn't make that a fact. just like most of BD's folks are gone 4 years into Savage.
I'll also state: - BOTH QBs are having to deal with bad receivers and poor OL blocking - BOTH QBs are playing better teams then we did last year - BOTH QBs are having accuracy problems - BOTH QBs don't have a running game this year - BOTH QBs are young and don't have more then 2 years of starting. - BOTH QBs are playing BAD with some streaks of good.
See my argument? we can't tell who is better from the current body of work.
State reasons, just don't pull stuff out of your butt.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

We'll all be crying in our beer when Derek wins the next five, we sneak into the playoffs, and RAC keeps his job,...

Perhaps next year with the influx of new personalities..probably coaches.. Quinn would probably have a better opportunity.. The offense needs tweeking not overhauled..better recievers..we have enough TE's..and probably a better back to subplant Lewis or bide time till he's out.

Let me get this strait.
We go with Quinn just because we drafted him and gave up picks to get him.
I can understand trying to get value out of an investment, but football is about tough decisions and going with the best players you have.

poor leadership
I've yet to see anything that says he's a poor leader, or exhibits poor leadership.
It's funny, but when people take shots at players, the people that defend a wrongful accusation suddenly become "supporters" of that player.
You want an article emphatically stating DA isnt a leader?...COME ON TOAD.
Are you telling me he is?
DA is DA...said it a million times...its the same OLD garbage...DA teases with raw talent...and never improves. We will always be waiting for him to turn the corner...always.
I'll let DA's play these last few weeks speak, they'll say all that needs said.
