How does the voting work? How many votes does each voter get? Then we could do our own and count up the votes

Considering that only 5 get in per year, that's a hard list to choose from.

My 5 would be:

Bruce Smith - He's a lock

Roger Craig - 4 Super Bowls

Charles Haley- 5 Superbowls

Kenny Stabler - Didn't know he wasn't already inducted.

Derrick Thomas - Most dominating defensive player of the '90's. - Again, surprised he's not in already.

Hard to argue with those five. I also think Shannon Sharpe and Andre Reed have a fair chance, although maybe not this year. It's nice to finally start getting guys up for vote that I've seen play live.

Do you mean all 8 of them will eventually get in?

OPINION: Ray Guy is a shoo-in. Rest of this list is too tough to choose from. (No Art, obviously). Maybe Kuchenberg and Dawson, maybe Carter, Grimm. Woodson will get some consideration (NFL 75th team,...)

That looks about right to me.

Guy has to get in....not many players have awards named after them and aren't in..

There can actually be anywhere from 4 to 7 people picked each year for the HOF, not just 5...

As others have already mentioned, the number "allowed" in each year can range from a minimum of four to a maximum of seven. Last year, for example, there were a total of 6 inductees.

Once players have been out of the league for 25 years, they have to be placed on the final list by the senior committee......out of the 17 final candidates to be voted on 15 will be modern era and 2 will be from the senior committee recommendations. This is what took Gene Hickerson so long to get in.

As for Modell.....like it or not based upon his contributions to the game he deserves enshrinement. I don't hope he "dies on the stage" as that would be mean and would delay the enshrinement process for the others. I have no doubt he will get in one day, but I hope it's posthumously so he has no earthly idea that he made it........

I agree, though I think he should get it while still alive....there comes a time to forgive...people need to let that go.

My 7 in order would be:

Rod Woodson
Charles Haley
Bruce Smith
Ralph Wilson
Cris Carter
Derrick Thomas
Ray Guy

And for those thinking Roger Craig .... he wasn't IMO in the top 5 as far as skill and production on his own offense. It's incredible to me that he's on this list frankly.

Another point...Charles Haley was a big time, and I mean big time factor in both the 49ers and the Cowboys success. He was a GREAT player and a game changer. Charles Haley is very underrated.

Just clickin,

While he was a good player (Roger Craig) i don't understand how many of you think he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He averaged less then 50 yds rushing a game and less then 30 yds receiving per game for his career.

multiple superbowls, first player ever to rush and recieve for over 1000 yards in the same season. Also first player to score three TCs in a superbowl.

So because your team makes the superbowl or you play well in one that qualifies you to be in the Hall of Fame? Yeah he did have 2 really good years, in ' 85 when he went over 1,000 yds both rushing and receiving and in ' 88 when he had 1,500 yds rushing but his other years were fairly mediocre. He only finished in the top 10 in rushing 3x in his career and ranks 34 all-time in rushing yds.

Bruce Smith (no brainer)
Rod Woodson (no brainer)
Derrick Thomas (agree with earlier poster...how he's not in yet is confusing)
