http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2736313Dolphins' talks with Cameron progress to job offer The Miami Dolphins have extended an offer to San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to be their next head coach, but there is no indication when or if Cameron will accept. Cameron Cameron returned to the Dolphins' complex Friday accompanied by general manager Randy Mueller, raising speculation the team might be on the verge of hiring him. Team owner Wayne Huizenga and chief executive Joe Bailey arrived earlier at the complex ahead of Cameron and Mueller. Cameron has been in South Florida since Wednesday, when he began a second round of interviews. The Dolphins, looking to replace Nick Saban who left for Alabama on Jan. 3, said Thursday they hoped to make a decision by Saturday. Timing is an issue because of next week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., where teams scout college prospects and assemble coaching staffs. Cameron, who first interviewed with the Dolphins shortly after Saban left, became available when San Diego was eliminated from the playoffs last Sunday. Other candidates still in the mix included Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey, Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers, former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora and former Alabama coach Mike Shula, the son of ex-Dolphins coach Don Shula. Cameron was coach at his alma mater, Indiana, from 1997-2001 and has directed a high-powered attack the past five years at San Diego. The Dolphins might opt for a coach with an offensive background because a sputtering offense is a major reason Miami failed to make the playoffs the past five seasons. The Dolphins interviewed at least 13 candidates in their most extensive coaching search since the franchise's first season in 1966.

They better had offerred this guy the position. Because Cam would have been ticked off for a 3-day second interview and not offered the job.

I think this would be a smart hire for the Dolphins. Cam has all the potiential to be a successful HC. Doesn't mean he will, especially since he (or whomever ends up the Dolphins Coach) has their work cut out for them.
He's done a good job with S.D.'s offense, of course, having L.T. and Gates does help. He will have to build and/or rebuild Miami's offense.
Well I wish him luck if he gets the job.

Updated: Jan. 19, 2007, 5:27 PM ET Dolphins, Cameron strike four-year dealESPN.com news services
San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has signed a four-year deal to become the Miami Dolphins' new head coach, ESPN.com has learned.
Figures of the deal were not available, but a 7 p.m. ET press conference was scheduled to announce the hiring.

When Cameron returned to the Dolphins' complex Friday accompanied by general manager Randy Mueller, it raised speculation the team might be on the verge of hiring him. Team owner Wayne Huizenga and chief executive Joe Bailey arrived earlier at the complex ahead of Cameron and Mueller.
Chan Gailey, also considered a strong candidate, said Friday he's staying at Georgia Tech. Gailey also interviewed for the coaching job in Pittsburgh.
Cameron has been in South Florida since Wednesday, when he began a second round of interviews. The Dolphins, looking to replace Nick Saban who left for Alabama on Jan. 3, said Thursday they hoped to make a decision by Saturday.

But, but, but, but, but...he has no head-coaching experience!

This is the best candidate out there this year. JMHO
That is the reason I don't understand all of the people that wanted to get rid of RAC this year. I just don't see anyone worth making a run at. The only other guy I would have been interested in was Grimm and it looks like he is going to stay in Pitt.

Sounds like a good move for the Dolphins...one never really knows.
But they kept Capers who runs the 3-4 D which Cameron should be comfortable with after his experience with SD. They got a good TE, RB and top WR - like us they need some OL

I'm not sure about this guy. San Diego is loaded w/talent. And he called a stupid-ass game against NE. I hate when coordinators act like fans and out-think themselves. He should have played more conservative. San Diego was bigger, stronger, and faster. Yet, this guy goes pass happy. And he does it w/a rookie QB and two wide receivers who can't catch. He neglects the best player in football for those guys? I wanted SD to win, and believe me, I was going crazy w/his play selection. Dumb as hell. Miami has QB problems and their offensive line is one of the worst in football. It will be a different story in Miami.

Absolutely, I could NOT believe the play calling in that game. Lots of mistakes made in that entire game by more than one person, no doubt. However, I was dumbfounded at his play calling with the offense he has and what got him there. Unbelievable in my opinion. He certainly helped Marty miss another opportunity.

If troy brown had not stripped the ball after the INT this whole conversation would not even exit. He is a solid OC.

That's a BIG IF turkey. I didn't see L.T. being used as much as I thought he would be and Merriman didn't exactly have a stellar game either.
