Good lord Analysis: Does Crennel deserve to be the fall guy? by Mary Kay Cabot Saturday December 20, 2008, 7:08 PM Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who received an extension just 11 months ago and is coming off a 10-6 season, mostly likely will take the fall for this horrible season despite the fact much of it was out of his control.
Fortunately for Crennel, he's got so much respect and support around the league that he'll have no trouble finding work if he wants it right away. Coaches such as the Jets' Eric Mangini, New England's Bill Belichick and the Giants' Tom Coughlin all would jump at the chance to hire him. Any of them would tell you that his 24-38 record -- including 4-10 so far this season -- wasn't a true measure of what he could've done, given the right circumstances.
"Romeo Crennel is a rock solid man," said Coughlin. "He's an excellent football coach and an even better person. He's an extremely stable, solid person. He's got both feet on the ground and his values in place. He's a very, very good football coach and an excellent person."
Also, with a dozen or so head coaches on the hot seat or retiring, he might even get some interviews for another top job. "His age [61] might work against him, but people know he can coach," said one league source. "It's evident his players love him. Look at the success Bill Belichick had after supposedly failing in Cleveland."
Those close to Crennel, who know the inner workings of the Browns, find it ludicrous that the Browns would fire him and not Browns General Manager Phil Savage, who supplied the players and either hired the assistants or encouraged Crennel to do so.
"Anybody with a brain knows that Phil and Romeo were in this together," said Crennel's agent, Joe Linta. "To do something with Romeo and not Phil wouldn't make any sense."
To Crennel's credit, he's taken the blame all season and hasn't mentioned the extenuating circumstances. But there have been plenty, including talent, staff and injuries. A look at those things, according to interviews with multiple league sources:
1. Players: An example of the disconnect between Crennel and Savage concerns the drafting of UNLV linebacker Beau Bell. A league source said Crennel watched tape of Bell before the draft and determined that he was not the right player for him. Not only did the Browns draft Bell, they traded their fifth-round pick to move up in the fourth round to get him.
Before the 2007 season, Crennel made it clear he wanted to keep safety Brian Russell. Russell was allowed to become a free agent. This season, when Daven Holly went out for the year with a knee injury and Leigh Bodden was traded to Detroit, Crennel wanted to bring in veteran cornerback Ty Law, who was signed by the Jets before Week 11. Crennel talked to Law all season, but Savage repeatedly said Law didn't fit in the Browns' budget. Crennel also was interested in trading for Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard when he was available.
Instead, Crennel was forced to suffer growing pains with Brandon McDonald, who gave up some costly TD passes and was benched for a play in Buffalo. McDonald, a fifth-round pick in 2007, is a good, young player, but too much was expected of him this year.
Crennel and his staff also wanted to bring in a veteran receiver such as a Joe Horn, Terry Glenn or Keenan McCardell when it became apparent Joe Jurevicius would be lost for the season and Dont Stallworth was hurt.
As for his 3-4 defense, Crennel was not given the horses to run the scheme effectively. Some of Savage's draft picks, including linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, are better suited to the 4-3. Even Savage admitted that he hasn't been drafting specifically for the 3-4, but leaning toward versatile players. Crennel needed a formidable pass rusher to make the scheme work, and Kamerion Wimbley is barely rushing anymore, instead dropping back more into coverage.
In Baltimore, Savage and Ozzie Newsome stocked the Ravens with Pro Bowl defensive players such as Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware, Chris McAlister, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs. No Pro Bowl defensive players have been drafted here, and the only one to make it, Shaun Rogers, was acquired in a trade and came at a huge cost.
2. The staff: After Crennel whiffed on his first offensive coordinator, Maurice Carthon, he wasn't given a mulligan. When it came time to hire a new one, Savage picked Rob Chudzinski. The move worked well last season, with the Browns' high-flying offense finishing at the top of the NFL in most categories. Crennel admires Chudzinski and his incredible work ethic.
But the pass-first mentality is not what he's used to. Crennel's second hire probably would've been Jeff Davidson, now the Panthers' coordinator, or Chris Palmer, the Giants' quarterbacks coach. Davidson's Panthers are seventh in the NFL in scoring this season. It's not that Chud isn't good, it's that he wasn't Crennel's pick. In fact, he has ties to only three or four of the assistants. Crennel gives his coordinators much autonomy, so when Jerome Harrison isn't getting more touches or Jamal Lewis isn't running much, it's on Chud more than Crennel. Still, they'll be factors in him losing his job.
As for defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, Crennel also really likes and respects him. But Tucker was a first-year coordinator and suffered some growing pains. Like Crennel, Tucker was forced to run a 3-4 without some of the right personnel and had to rely on young defensive backs.
3. Injuries: Even in Cincinnati, Mike Brown recognizes the Bengals' season was essentially over when Carson Palmer was injured early on. Crennel is getting no such injury pass here despite 10 players and maybe 11 by next week finishing the season on injured reserve.
Included are the top two quarterbacks in Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Jurevicius was a huge loss, as were Robaire Smith, Holly, Antwan Peek and Ryan Tucker. Some observers feel that the Browns' fortunes changed before the season began when Anderson, Edwards, Josh Cribbs and Stallworth all were injured.
The Browns aren't built to withstand so many injuries because most of their money is spent on starters. A team like New England, for instance, focuses on the entire 53-man roster and can overcome such losses. What's more, with so many of their second-day picks out of football, the depth just isn't there.
Despite all of the above, Crennel most likely will be gone shortly after the Pittsburgh game Dec. 28. But for a man who waited so long for his opportunity, he wasn't always given the best chance for success.

Which is why I wish the Browns kept Thompson. Yeah he didnt live up to his 2nd round pick expectations, but he was a good specail teamer, had starting experiance, led the team in sacks before Wimbley was drafted, a veteran that was familiar with his teammates, probabley one of the browns better coverage LBs, and could step in at any LB spot at any time during the game. Orr and Hall was a dropoff from Thompson.
I think Savage was focusing too much on value players like Steptoe, and the other young WRs, instead of going after a vet WR. It worked with Cribbs, be Savage has to realize that getting a player like Cribbs for value and to contribute in the way he does is almost a once in a career thing.

This is true, and this is why I want to lose both of them. Fact is, people need to be held accountable for this season. Some of Crennel's coaching moves really dissapoint me, but I can't blame the player's lack of preparation for this season completely on him. Unfortunately, you can't fire an entire team, so........... sorry RAC you gotta go, and see ya as well Phil Savage.

You're entitled to your opinion, Petey, but don't you think there's a chance that such a statement is just a little fishy since it comes from Crennel's agent?

it's no scecret that phil really runs the show and that is one of many reasons we still suck. IMO phil is a good evaluator of talent, but not yet ready to be the guy making moves to put the coach in the best position to win. Also after Staph-gate, and the e-mail incedent, he has earned his reponcibilities to be greatly diminished at the very least.

Crennel carries his own cross. He's failed in ways that a head coach can't fail, regardless of the people above him.
As for Savage, there's no excuse for the email, and his record of free agents and draft selections is up and down, but the crap with Winslow was ALL on Winslow. Savage had to back down only after he learned that the PR person tried to tell Winslow to keep quiet.
There's things to be unhappy with regarding Savage, but Winslow's situation was all Winslow, and nobody else.

Toad, no need to split hairs or look to deep into things. The agent is clearly trying to deflect 100% falling on Romeo's shoulders. That's his job. Any further expaination is really meaningless. In the end......it's time to just move on and see what happens next.

You know, I've thought long and hard about this.
Before these past few games, I would say you could probably make a successful case.
Ever since that Houston game, he either realized he was fired or he just didn't care anymore, because he stopped coaching.
However, with all that said, Romeo was just in over his head, not ready to let his voice be heard, too passive, and too loyal.
Great man, terrible head coach.
you had a good run Hank.

If it was that bad between him and savage, he should've resigned long time ago to save face. No sense staying with an organization , when you have philosophical differences between you and your boss. that's a recipe for disaster, none wins in those situations.
Besides Livy and Shaw, it seems Grossi and Cabot has a soft spot for Romeo. None is saying he's a scumbag like Butch, but as a coach he's equally as bad. Heck when it came to coaching Butch has Romeo crushed. He's terrible. Bring on BLACK MONDAY.

Interesting article that cites how lots of things were out of RACs control. Not sure why you used only the rolly-eyes smiley when posting the article, which parts do you think are inaccurate Toad?
The part from Linta I don't find "fishy," I think it is dead nuts on. The coach and the GM have to be on the same page as far as acquiring/retaining players to fit the schemes. The HC has to be comfortable with and knowledgeable of the schemes the coordinators run.
Players have to stay healthy, and if they don't you have to have adequate depth.
I don't disagree with the article at all.....

For all those who are stedfast in gettin' rid of Savage also...Be careful...A dumb ass email and Winslow is nuttin' to get ansy about...We can Crennel and let Savage go we're gettin' TORN DOWN for the most part...AGAIN...And we ain't that far away... I don't care if it's at the expense of a Cowher...SAVAGE STAYS...

I agree. I don't doubt that RAC may go, and I do believe it will be as a scapegoat, but the GM has to stay.....gotta have some semblance of continuity. That's one thing that keeps me thinking that no one is going anywhere.....Lerner is no doubt knowledgeable of the important role that continuity can play.

...and that simply isn´t the truth....let´s get real...we still have a long way to go to become a PO-team...
starters we need:
RG RT WR (RB) DE OLB OLB ILB S CB
...that´s half the team and we haven´t discussed depth yet....and I didn´t even include C and QB who aren´t mediocre at their positions compared to the rest of the league
I think 2009 would be a pefect transition year since we have to find out about Quinn anyway....it´s not realistic to get into the POs with a 1st time starter at QB, you know
I was in Savage´s corner all the way....but if it´s true about B.Bell, Russell, WR and CB situation then it seems we have a prospect happy GM and a vet-loving HC...not a good combination...and both deserve fired for their unbalance
We ain´t even close imho....

Tell that to Atlanta and Baltimore....
There's gonna be ALOT of nastiness come this off-season...And alot of it's coming from utter frustration with the season we just had...U can sit there all u want and name HALF the team needing replaced...lol...OK...SOS has a major role in this...And Dorsey for the last 4 or 5 ain't helpin'...But this team in NO WAY needs blown-up...NO WAY...U keep hangin' on that 10 Starter thing...
Shep...I do believe Crennel is out the door...But we gotta keep Savage and let him continue this...Another off-season influx of a few key FA's and a Top 7 Draft pick in rounds 1 and 2 is gonna help alot...We already know we're gonna replace 2 of the major liabilities on the front 7 in MGinest and Davis...
We aren't that far away...And the schedule in 09 is light years softer than this year...
Go Browns!!!

I've been thinking this lately as well. Lerner's assessment might include getting player feedback (from at least some of the key veterans - such as JJ, Stienbach, Tucker) all of whom would whole heartedly support Romeo.
Another thing playing on my mind is the possibility of bringing Romeo back to be the DC.
Two wild and crazy thoughts. Neither of them realistic I suppose.

I personally don't agree with the "scapegoat" concept. He may have been a little handcuffed with the players he had to work with, but there are plenty of things that he had full control of that he royally screwed up. 1) Team preparedness. It seemed that the team is consitantly unprepared to face the opponents. 2) Clock management. There are more times than I can count that he butchered this item. The common football fan with an ounce of knowledge of the game understands when and how to manage the clock at crucial times yet Crennell seems clueless at times. 3) Halftime adjustments. Other teams seem to adjust to our gameplan, but we seem to be unable to adjust to theirs. 4) Loyalty to veteran players. I understand the loyalty concept, but never at the expense of the team. There seems to be a reluctance to take any playing time from an over-the-hill vet and allow a younger-fresher player to earn their stripes. It is painfull to watch a younger player produce everytime they are given a small opportunity and then never get substantial playing time to fully help the team. 5) Override his coordinators. Some including Mary Kay say that Crennell allows his coordinators to do their thing. I own my own business and I have put people in charge of certain jobs and people. When I don't see the results that I need I step in and make the necessary changes to get those results. Crennell seems content with losing instead of stepping in and making the necessary changes.
Some have suggested that he be retained as a DC. What has he done lately to suggest that he can still perform at a high level. I firmly believe that Belicheck and the players had alot of influence on Crennell's successs there.
Injuries are a fact of the game. Some teams seem to pull player off the streets and keep on winning. Steelers, Patriots, and Denver's RB's. We have seen more than our share of injuries this season, but other teams are able to carry on, but we fall apart. I think that it is easier for a player to succumb to injuries when the team is regularly losing. If we were in the playoff hunt I think alot of the players would play through the pain to be part of a winning team instead of screaming "ouch" and watching from the sidelines.
Crennell needs to go. There are too many negatives in his coaching style that will never translate to winning consistantly. I don't want to start over completely , but we need a new face at the headcoaching position.

We aren't that far away
With all due respect, how many times have I heard this? And how many times must I hear it again before I see a winner?
Honestly, I do believe the statement by RAC's agent. Romeo and Phil are in this together. That's why I'd fire them both if I was the owner. But if for some reason I didn't can them both I'd call them in and tell them the "5 year plan" was now a 1 year plan. Make the playoffs or plan on filing for unemployment. Period. No excuses. No reasons. Playoffs or out.
Cleveland fans have to stop being patsies. We are willing to settle for mediocrity so that's what we get. It has to end.

It's one huge pile of "excuses". That's all it is. RAC is a nice guy. But he simply hasn't really developed much of the talent he has. There's a host of reasons he should go and most know many of them. And RAC's agent? Oh yeah, there's a non bias opinion. He may have respect in the league, but I'll bet you it's NOT as a "HC". We've heard excuses for every year but one since he's been here. And that was against one weak assed schedule. It's a results orientated game. And the results are suckin' pretty bad. Buy into the excuses if you like. Sit here and rationalize his poor job performance. He's at the end of his fourth season with MUCH better talent. Four seasons? No more excuses. I wish him luck in the NFL as a DC. Because that's what he'll be after he leaves here............................ Unless he can find another dumb ass to let him repeat this performance here. Because RAC hasn't improved as a HC in any department. He simply hasn't grown into the job and matured at it. If he had? We wouldn't be having this discussion..............
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Ravens just beat the Boys and probably end up with 11 wins.
QB- I would take Quinn over Flacco any day of the week. RB- Ravens split carries between their backs. The Browns bench the guy averaging almost 8 yards per attempt. LT- Shaffer is better than Terry. Wanta make a Joe Thomas comparison. LG- Steinbach is better than anyone they have. C- youth vs experience but I like the kid for the Ravens RG- Ravens clearly have the advantage here. RT-Browns are better here WR- Stallworth and BE no contest TE- similar skill set between the 2 but k2 is by far the superior talent
Defense the Browns scheme negates any advantage they may have.
Think about this they have been playing their 3rd string corners almost the entire season.
Hall was leading the team in sacks and pressures and when McGinest got healthy he rarely sees the field. Wimbley is lining up at DE or dropped into coverage, I cant remember the last time he actually blitzed from the linebacker position.
DQ is leading the league in tackles.
We have some issues but everyteam does. Parity does exist and a bad head coach can make a playoff caliber team look like it needs blown up. Miami was the worst team in football a year ago. Their only win was against the Ravens. Atlanta was a joke.
The difference is in the head coach folks. Romeo has made horrible personnel decisions since he came here. Remember the 3 int game bodden had and how Bodden was inactive or didnt play for the next 8 weeks.
Romeo has also gotten what he has wanted for the majority of his time here. He wanted Andruzzi, big ted, mcginnest. He wanted Wimbley over Ngata.
I can almost guarantee the Browns are #1 in penalties over the last 4 years. We were the worst in challenges over the last 4 years. We have been consistently horrible in clock management and timeout useage. His personnel decisions are horrible. All those receivers are totally washed up are out of football. Law sucked the last couple of years and Phil knew if he brought in Law McDonald or Wright would be riding the bench just like hall.
When Romeo sucks it is always someone else to blame. It is Carthon, no Davidson, no its Grantham. O chud Sucks this year, Tucker cant call a game. I am sorry they are no more excuses for the man's incompetence.

Does Crennel deserve to be the fall guy? by Mary Kay Cabot
Mary Kay...YES, CRENNEL DESERVES TO BE THE FALL GUY....
You can't pretty this mess up with "excuses" or "what ifs"
He's not the only one responsible for the teams performance, but in the NFL, the buck stops at the Head Coach, most of the time.
I believe Crennel lost the respect of his players this season. It showed on and off the field and continues to show up every time one of our players speak out.
Some coaches can command respect from their players even when their team is playing poorly. Crennel was faced with that challenge this season and he failed to lead the team and command the respect of the players during the tough times this season.
Crennel might be a very good Defensive Coordinator, but he's not a great head coach at the NFL level.
I respect the man but don't want to see him return as the Browns head coach.

put me in the column that Mary Kay mentions some very vaild points. Yes, I know there are some valid points on the other side too. That's why this off season Lerner will be making a very difficult decision. He could go either way and be wrong or right.
I also think we are just a few players away. Why?
who comes back from injury that missed all or practically all season
Peek Robaire Tucker Holly JJ
Get another ILB and move Dra to the bench. Get another CB and get rid of Cousin. An OLB to replace slow Willie Maybe replace someone on the OL Some better back-ups at DL and S
That's a handfull of players, Between FA and the draft or a trade it can't be done?

Based on "potential" perhaps ...... but as the saying goes, "Potential means you ain't done a damn thing yet". Quinn has gone 1-2 while completing 50% of his passes for 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Excuse me all to hell if I'm not all that impressed.

RB- Ravens split carries between their backs.
And have run for ..... oh ..... 2249 yards .... which is #1 in the NFL. We have 1358 rushing yards. That isn't even close to #1.

You mean Harrison ... who is out with an injury after his staggering 31 carries this season? He's not benched .... he can't play because he hurt his knee.

WR- Stallworth and BE no contest
You're right. We have an underacheiver and a nonacheiver. Mason has 960 yards and 5 TDs. Clayton has 560 yards and 3 TDs. What do our guys have .....?

Yep.
Stallworth, Jurevicius, OL banged up, DA with a concussion in camp, Edwards shoulder injury and drops, BQ broken finger, Winslow in and out all year...yeah, these are excuses when the majority of the starters don't make it to the field or aren't producing when they do make it there.
Nothing but silly excuses.
Not reasons.
Nope.
It's comical how you can think that we have had better talent on the field this year. That is just a silly claim to make. How many guys on IR now? 16? 17? 18? I've lost track......but it's one-third of what you can have on the roster. One third!!!

I have stuck up for RAC a lot on this board over the season.
"Crennel gives his coordinators much autonomy, so when Jerome Harrison isn't getting more touches or Jamal Lewis isn't running much, it's on Chud more than Crennel. Still, they'll be factors in him losing his job."
This however irked me a bit.
So somebody put a gun to RAC's head to give the asst. coaches autonomy.
Also ONE SMALL THING.
RAC has a head set on during the games. Is this head set even plugged in? I mean if he gives complete autonomy so that its not his fault its his Asst. Coaches fault. Why does he even need a Head set. Actually this puts a black eye on his HC abilities - giving asst. autonomy is one thing. Not stepping in during a game and not asking...but simply stating...do this, do that. You mean he never told Tucker to run this blitz...or this coverage scheme during a game??? The fact that he felt we could have WON or PLAYED BETTER TO WIN with some distinct decisions...AND CHOSE NOT TO MAKE THEM!!!! That alone tells me he should not be a HC and is missing something to be one. Autonomy doesn't remotely mean DO NOT GET INVOLVED AT ALL!!!
And whats with the ---- If I can't have the Baby - CUT IT IN HALF...that is better justice as in if RAC goes the entire thing should be blown up!
So what was wrong with the Browns this season was Chud....not RAC and Tucker....well very simple he wasn't given the personnel to do a good job.
You know that all important 08 4th round pick. We know how much impact we expect from that 4th round rookie in RAC's team...lol
Oh and I love this... "No Pro Bowl defensive players have been drafted here, and the only one to make it, Shaun Rogers, was acquired in a trade and came at a huge cost."
1. there are only 3 draft classes to really look at...young players don't get invites to the Pro-Bowl...but a #1-5 Defense member might. Wimbley, Pool n EW - Wimbley probably the worst of the 3 and the most tenure. 2. To just brush off Rogers as a NO HELP TO THE D FROM SAVAGE borders on INSANE...AT A HUGE COST???? What a 3rd round pick and Bodden, a HUGE COST??? 3. And what about the 06 draft when Savage did give RAC a choice. Ngata or Wimbley n he chose Wimbley...maybe that is why Savage didn't listen to RAC regarding Bell??? As in he won't do that again.
Maybe the Ty Law grevience is there. But possibly Law was asking too much...note nobody did sign him till week 11 when possibly he lowered his demands. Would his existence have changed this season. Would his lack of speed gotten less out of that CB position than if we had McD...our only chance for pressure was with blitzes...which would leave our CBs in man coverage. I cannot see Law going man to man without help. I see Law in a Zone coverage and without a blitz any QB would have torn us apart.
I really don't see that as a answer...but I can say...OK maybe a legit gripe. You have to sometimes make do with what you got. And if RAC is stating he simply couldn't make do with the Personnel we had.
Remember ON PAPER everyone under the sun was stating we had a great team.
I was not impressed with the coaching. Not the personnel problem being the problem....it wasn't all perfect do to injuries. But that is part of coaching.

Shep: Which parts do you think are innacurate Toad?
Shep, it's not about "innacurate" as much as it's an apologists article. That's the angle it starts out at, and does nothing to address Crennel's failures that can directly be attributed to him. Quote:
Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who received an extension just 11 months ago and is coming off a 10-6 season, mostly likely will take the fall for this horrible season despite the fact much of it was out of his control.
She then dives right into how he'll get work because current head coaches would "jump at the chance to get him." Ok, possible, but she conveniently glossed right over all the things that WERE in his control over the course of his tenure.
How convenient to dismiss his entire body of work and say in plain words that he's going to be the fall-guy for a bad season. From his choices in coaches to his waffling with the QB's this year, Crennel shares equal blame for what's happened. Based on all that, he can be judged all by himself.
But that isn't what the article is about, is it
Quote:
"Anybody with a brain knows that Phil and Romeo were in this together," said Crennel's agent, Joe Linta. "To do something with Romeo and not Phil wouldn't make any sense."
Should we go back to where Crennel was pretty much chosen before Savage ever got here?
Should we revisit how Crennel was given a new contract, but only if he gave up even more control to Savage?
When given the choice between a run-stuffer and a pass-rusher, Crennel chose the rusher.
There's just so much wrong with this article that it's almost comical.
Much of it is factual. The stuff about the 3-4 defenses not having the right players, for example, is true. The stuff about Carthon being a failure and Crennel not getting a mulligan is true as well. But think about that one: Why SHOULD he get a mulligan?
No, this article is all about excusing blame away from Crennel. Unfortunately for RAC, he's made so many mistakes that WERE in his control that all these excuses play no role in his outcome.
If people want a REAL barometer of how RAC is viewed, all we have to do is wait until teams are looking for coaches in the off-season.
What I'd like to ask everyone is this: What do you think the odds are of RAC landing a Head Coaching position? I say 0% because he's going to be judged by his body of work. Sure, he'll get a few sniffs, but only because of the Rooney Rule.
When push comes to shove, his body of work says he's not a head coach. Sure, all these other head coaches would LOVE to have him......as a coordinator.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

i don't know either way what is the best thing to do....
if i had to sum it up, then rac has made some mistakes....and so has savage..
the biggest thing that was out of control this year was injuries.....and i know all teams deal with them, but we are in a different boat than them....
we haven't even been able to field a team of legit starters on both offense and defense...by next year we might be able to....other teams have the luxury of knowledgable depth....we haven't had that....
and what i mean is a guy like davis being on the bench....not a great starter, but depthwise you couldn't ask for more coming in with an injury to a starter.....no rookie mistakes to worry about...just a drop-off in talent...
when we get an injury we usually have to play a guy thats either not ready, or a total bum fa that doesn't know the system...
the other big problem is unproven coordinators.....i agree with the way they do it, but they are a big question mark in certain situations....if a head coach has to constantly correct, or give input into what both coordinators are doing on gameday, then his mind is distracted by other crap...
his biggest gameday weakness is probably clock management....how is it all these guys that have been around football for years screw stuff up? are the coaches telling the qb's and they are screwing up? who the heck knows...
there is no doubt that rac knows defense....does he have the players? i don't even know what decisions they have to make....aggressive or not? in order to blitz, you have to have a resonable chance of success.....so we play it bend and don't break....i don't knowif they have a choice....
Attitude is everything....FEAR THE ELF!!!

For what it's worth,, what part of that article isn't basically true.. I mean,, there are some problems beyond the HC's control,,,, That's a for sure..
Still, I think that RAC is in over his head... Too bad really because he seems like a good guy caught up in a bad situation.

because he seems like a good guy
I'm so frickin' tired of hearing this.
Look, this guy has taken something that we all love and run it into the ground either because he lacks the intelligence for the job, the skill required for the job, because he's stubborn to his ways, because he's trying to send one big "up yours" to Savage, or some combination of all of the above. He consistently employs tactics in his style of coaching that are not in the best interest of getting wins.
Let me repeat that. He does not partake in actions that have the best interests of getting wins in mind. He does things his way even though they've proven to be ineffective over and over and over again.
He doesn't give a crap about getting wins or the fans. If he did, we would see something different on the field.
But he's a good guy. Ok.
Everyone, just keep preaching it.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

One thing is for sure, I don't really care too much about the HC but Chud needs to be kicked out with steel-toed boots.

You tell em, RIsh. After all, thise team was on the verge of the SUPER BOWL BABY before RAC tooke over and "run it into the groung". You can't refute ONE THING stated in the article above as inaccurate. So instead, you throw out generalities with nothing of substance to slam RAC. I'd love for you go give examples of how he as employed tactics not in the best interest of winning. Just saying it doesn't make it so, Rish. I'll come back on and refute your generalities later after you post them, as I'm sure you and others will continue to dismiss what's being said and kep the tunnel vision going.

So, because you are tired of hearing it, am I supposed to not ever say it again.,.even if it is what I beleive to be true?
Dispite what you say, all things indicate that this is a decent human being.., He appears to be pretty well respected by those that know him well and by his peers and former employers.
Are you saying you know more than all of them? That you know more than Belichick, or Parcells, or anyone else that is or was in the NFL.. including the players..
Rish,, you are angry,, can't say I blame you,, I'm angry also. we have a losing team,, it sucks,, but i'm not willing to lay all the blame for this at his feet.. Not ALL the blame.

I'm in the line that thinks savage has alot more to do with what's happening on the field than RAC..do i think RAC is a good HC..lord no, but he hasn't been given the players needed to try. If anyone thinks savage has done a great job is crazy. i don't see much talent on this team..just because the team has more talent compared to the botch years..doesn't mean its good NFL caliber talent. most of our starters wouldn't start for majority of playoff teams..that's the barometer i use. And if what Cabot says is true...and i have a feeling alot if not all is, then savage needs to go also and i hope he does. I can see those very scenarios she mentioned as true and because of savages demonstrated ego, i almost would bet that is what went down. Regardless, we are in for major changes. Hope they are the right ones this time.

Speaking of tunnel vision, yes let's keep on the same track it has worked pretty good so far. I see you bash a lot of people about this, so how about we hear some of your detailed reasons why RAC has done a good job without reciting continuity as one of them.

I'm also with you on Savage I will take the side of the minorities on this one, because I don't think he has done all that well either to just get a free pass on all this.

Leadtheway, There are ALOT of Savage apologist on this board. They will say that we have all the load of talent but cannot name any of it that is playing other than Rogers! Hell, lets look at the some of his draft picks that are not even in the league, let alone playing with other teams. Savage picks the coordinators, like Chud but does not want to take any of the responsibility of their performance. Tucker has been given no real talent to even run a 3-4 defense but his secondary is improving! Its easy to blame RAC and he will be gone, but if we get Cowher or Marty, savage is gone also!!

Savage is just as bad. Your'e right, I don't know why people act like we have talent on this team. So far, Savage has had two proven draft picks - Cribbs, and Joe Thomas. TWO!
As for free agents - Shaun Rogers.
He's gotta go.
