OK... Say you are calling the shots... who would you cut on this team during the off season? Also, list players you would try to trade. I have a hard time thinking of what should be done to the offensive line. Is Fraley going to be decent next year? What abotut he whole right side... Is Tucker's career over? With Tucker's health problems in the last 2 years, he is not really reliable and we may be better off getting someone else. My list doesn't include a lot of the scrubs we signed in the last month to fill in for injured guys...
My list of players to cut:
Andra Davis Ken Dorsey Donte Stallworth Terry Cousin Jerome Harrison Leon Williams Bruce Gradkowski Nick Sorensen Rex Hadnot
Players to try and trade: Braylon Edwards Kellen Winslow (or maybe keep him and make him a fulltime WR) Derek Anderson

Before we can CUT, we should look at the players were going to replace them with. We just cant cut and hope to replace with better, sure thats the thought but lets not be too quick to cut. just my thoughts.
Too me a better thread might be what areas do we target to upgrade.
1. LB 2. O-Line 3. DB 4. WR 5. RB

Don't know why you'd cut Harrison. He hasn't had a chance to see the field. Get a coach who knows how to use him, and then see what he can do. Ditto Stallworth. He can't catch if he's never thrown to.
Cut:
Andra Davis Ken Dorsey Terry Cousin Leon Williams Bruce Gradkowski Nick Sorensen Rex Hadnot Ryan Tucker Charles Ali Shantee Orr Chris Griffin Travis Daniels Gerard Lawson Willie McGinest (Though I can't complain about his play this year, I wouldn't count on him playing that way next year. Jed Collins (???) Mike Adams Kevin Shaffer Jamal Lewis (Time to bring in someone who can find the holes more quickly, with the ability to jump outside if there's nothing in the middle.)
Trade:
Braylon Edwards Kellen Winslow Derek Anderson Kamerion Wimbley

why jh?
gradkowski is scrub signed the end of the season
sorenson should not have been playing defense in the 2 deep
ken dorseys job is to hold a clip board.
davis is a free agent
hadnot is solid depth.
k2 cannot be a full time reciever, willl not out run db's
you are not going to anything for edwards.
da and quinn will be up to the new regime
too much cash is owed to stallworthless, prolly going to see him around next year.
I would cut s smith. he may be a locke rroom cancer. his mouth on the field is too.
leon williams and terry cousin can deliver pizza and beer for all I care

How can anyone really answer that at this point. we don't have a HC or GM and we don't know what they will want to do.
Just saying, it's too early

Harrison? Why on Earth would you just cut him?
When the guy played, he was great for us. A perfect change of pace back.
Good thing fans don't decide who to cut...

First of all, THERE IS NO NEED TO CUT ANDRA DAVIS
HE IS AN UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT
Regardless of his play, which some aren't happy with, there's no need to unnecessarily banter the guys name around as one who needs the boot. He'll walk if we don't offer him another contract.
Secondly Ken Dorsey has been terrible since he's been in the league. I would like to keep him for the original reason he was kept, to help Brady Quinn in the quarterback room as a positive influence and guiding force. Dorsey, as per Quinn's endorsement earlier in the year when he was cut, is great when holding a clipboard on the side to help whomever is playing.
That said, should he ever see the field? No. Should Phil have brought in Someone else to assume the #2 spot as soon as DA was hurt? Yes. Keep Dorsey.
Stallworth can be cut if the penalties are able to fit into the budget. He would be a well paid #1 wideout, but instead he's an overpaid underneath #2. Get rid of him.
Not sure where Cousin's contract puts him, but I'd analyze who's behind him and then make a decision. As with Dorsey, if he's able to serve as a mentor to the younger guys at the bottom of the depth chart you keep him. You don't let him see the field, but you let him show up in practice and the weight room to serve on what is already a young secondary, which will assuredly be getting younger this offseason.
No reason to cut Jerome Harrison. Simply because someone else would be brought in doesn't mean that person would be any better. You have a scatback who knows the offense and has shown flashes of effectiveness. Keep him.
Once again no reason to cut Williams. He's been serviceable when in, and has the versatility to play in both a 3-4 and 4-3. At the very least he has the physical tools to be an effective special teamer.
I'm also pretty certain that, once again, you don't need to cut Gradkowski due to the length of his deal. If necessary though, he's most certainly not welcome back.
Sorenson had a few plays this year where he stood out (the game winning pass breakup in the endzone) and has consistently been one of the teams top special teamers. He definitely isn't the most effective deep cover guy, but he's proven that he carries value.
Rex Hadnot provides serviceable depth on an offensive line sorely lacking in it. The past two years Steinbach, McKinney, Shaffer, and Tucker have all missed time due to injury. There's no need to kick out someone who provides quality depth until you have someone lined up to replace him.
This team has talent, and a massive turnover will not be necessary. It's premature to throw out all these names and expect studs to be brought in. These players may not make your eyes go wide, but most of them serve roles on the team which makes replacing them more of an unnecessary hassle than a worthy endeavor.
As per the trades though, I think you ship DA for a second rounder. After that you decide if you want to get rid of BE or KW2, not both. For me it's BE, as I don't see him staying beyond his original contract anyway. I also think his trade value is higher (could probably get a mid 1st).

I'd like to see what Stallworth has when he has a QB that throws the ball to him...
The guy was not in the plays much and/or injured.
To cut him and take it on the chin doesn't make sense since we've never really seen him play for us!

Agreed, so why not make him into the QB coach and save a roster spot for a younger talent.

You don't trade Edwards... he has value still. Yes, he had problems catching the football earlier in the year, but later he sort of solved his demons. Trust me, the last thing you want is that guy on some other roster tearing it up...
As for trading Winslow, I would love to see it happen, I just don't know if the value is enough to make anyone want him badly enough to compensate us to our satisfaction. If I could get a 3rd rounder for him, I would take that in a heartbeat. The guy is a locker-room problem waiting to happen (if not already happening) and does not have full utility because he cannot BLOCK. No use for that in Cleveland. Get him out of here...
Wimbley, though it hurts, we're pretty much stuck with....

Yep, CalDawg. One abhorrently weird thing we have done is come up with skillsets we do not use or use contrary to strengths. Like Wimbley has been a gimmick. Draft a passrusher and drop him into coverage. Select a line and never blitz enough. We sign wideouts and others and never go deep. And we crow about "utility linemen" on O (I call them futility linemen) who are inadequate in any number of positions. Look how many quarterbacks we have gone thru in the last four years. Any success to speak of? We need proven quality. And a system and philosophy that makes sense. Sorry, RAC. Certainly wasn't your schemes.

Does anyone know what we might be able to get for Winslow? Any estimated value is appreciated...

I dont think a set value is realistic, Winslows value is diffrent for every team, depending on who they currently have at TE, what thier team situation is.
Example
San Diego with Gates or KC with Gonzalas Dallas with Witten might only offer a 4th or 5th rounder. Green Bay who has a young unproven player might offer a 3rd, now if GB though they could compete for a divisonal crown with upgrading at TE might give us a 2nd rounder, it really depends on the team.

Harrison can't block!!! How can he be successful when his blocking skills are completely non existent? Teams will shortly begin to recognize that when Jerome is on the field, we are doing a running play... If we do run a passing play with him in, a defender will run right passed him at the QB.... And he doesn't contribute to special teams.

Neither can Winslow......Neither can Shaffer, maybe it's the coaching ?
Harrison brings something else to the table, not every RB is a good blocker, but he does need to learn to be a average blocking RB, but he wont learn on the sidelines, yes practice, but common practice is totally diffrent than games. Give him a chance under this new coach.

He's our best receiving back who has shown flashes of talent when carrying the ball. Yes, he's a terrible blocker, but when split in the backfield with an effective blocking back (i.e. Vickers or Lewis) the offense would have a lot of wiggle room as far as play calling.
If the new staff is able to find a replacement who can come in, build a life in Cleveland, find a place within the team dynamic, and produce on a higher level than Harrison, then by all means go for it. But to advocate someone's release with no immediate replacements lined up is an unintelligent move.

I've been gone from this board for about 1 yr.....been paying my hard earn dead presidents on the Cavaliers @the "Q"for the last 3yrs(a real team w/ great management)....my question for the folks on here is....WHY DO FOLKS WANT K2 cut or traded? Is it because...he was worried about his life w/the 1,000 staph infection around Berea?(I don't blame him for getting at Phillip Savage)or he plays when he's hurt......OR he brings too much PASSION on the field?
Help me out somebody......

The one player who jumps out to me is Hadnot. The line was terrible with him on it.
As for everyone else... I'm not sure.
I know I don't want to trade BE or KW2, I think diminished roles for both would be better. Make BE #2 under Houshyamama or somebody like that (hey I can dream!). KW2 to 3rd WR role like JJ. I think Rucker and Heiden could handle the TE role.
I would like to see us keep Jamal Lewis but bring in a high pick to compete.
The D needs alot of help. I'd like to see some new LB's and Younger D-line. I don't think Kam Wimbley is a bad player, but I do think he's in the wrong position.

Welcome back! I'll do my best to explain but first let me say I don't want him cut. Traded is another story depending on what we get in return. So why don't I want him on my team? Sorry to say the answer is I don't like him. I'd describe him as a gifted athlete who unfortunately is also a self centered, narcissistic irresponsible punk. Who btw can't block. In a football team context I'm not sure his positives outweigh his negatives.

I don't care for him either after the staph infection he tried to pin on the Browns. It was his very own doing but he pointed his fingers in the wrong direction.

after the great year he had he deserves a chance to find a place on an actual pro football team. the poor guy spent his career with the lions and then was traded to the browns. the guy probably thinks the NFL hates him

A GM in the NFL who would give up anything higher than a very low 3rd for Winslow should be given his walking papers.
A malcontent tight end who can't block and likely has no more than 2-3 years left in his career...you'd have to have every piece of a Super Bowl squad in place to make that move.

Hey chelle......glad to see you still on here.....but please explain your quote. Isn't it the Browns fault to keep the building clean?Hasn't this happened more than it should? How was it HIS fault? He did point his finger at Savage(who it seems was trying to play God around there)and we find out Savage created alot of problems surrounding that team!!!!!
