Didn't see this one coming . . . did you? web page Broncos fire longtime coach Shanahan
Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Denver Broncos, Mike Shanahan
The blockbuster of the coaching season just came in: The Denver Broncos fired Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan had three years and upwards of $20 million remaining on his contract.
Shanahan, who just completed his 14th season at the helm of the Broncos, was the longest tenured coach in franchise history. He also held the title of executive vice president of football operations.
The two-time Super Bowl-winning coach guided the Broncos to nine winning seasons, seven playoff berths and three conference championships. The Broncos finished 8-8 this season, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

This guy should move right to the top of the list of candidates to interview.

Well, here goes 10 more threads eight pages or longer!
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Wow...
This is going to be a cause and effect now....
Bills coach is probably gonna DEFINITELY get fired now... lol... I can see Shanahan in Buffalo.
He's a pretty good coach. Don't agree with his personnel decisions though.

Wow, that is a shocker....and that makes things a bit more interesting. A Super Bowl winning coach with proven success with an offense that was very good in bad weather is now available. I would think he'd be interested in coming to Cleveland considering is infatuation with former Browns players Seriously, this could be very interesting to look at.

If we don't tab him as our next head coach I would love to see him as an offensive coordinator . . .
I wonder if Herm is going to get canned in KC as soon as they settle their GM search.

not at all. they were completely set to take the afcw with the crap the chargers went through. then their defensive sieve, something shanahan has tried to fix as informal gm for the past 3 seasons cost them this season.

I would say yes, he probably will be fired once a GM is in place.
Shanahan isn't going to be a coordinator. Someone wil grab him pretty quickly as a HC.

Nooooooooo silly. I'm still with ya on Holmgren. I do like Shanahan as a second choice. Imagine his offense with Romeo as DC. That would would rock.

I am very intrigued with the thought of Shanahan as well. Either one would be a GREAST choice. I like either of those over the Mangini/McDaniel/Grimm (PLEASE GOD NO!)/or Schwarts (AGAIN, GOD, PLEASE HEAR ME..NO!).

oh i fully expected cutler to light it up. brandon marshall, eddie royal, and that white guy that i forget his name. the colts guy. not to mention the runningback carousel.
the problem was always the defense and now he bit the dust because of it.

The thing is, with Mangini coming in, is there already a "done deal in principal" with Pioli?
Stay tuned for the next episode of.......As the HC Turns.....

I don't think Mangini is anywhere near a done deal. I think that this would definately raise the eyebrows of Lerner. I'm surprised you had the ability to even post. I figured you wouldn't have such a reaction to the news of another quality experinced coach, you'd be dancing naked in the streets

What's wrong, in your opinion, with Grimm or Schwartz?
I will say this throws a wrinkle in my thinking about the coaching carousel . . . (the Shanahan thing that is . . . )

I would take him in a heart beat. But only as the HC, not in full control. This guy is proven, and that's what we need.

.. " The thing is, with Mangini coming in ... " I'm going to think positive for a while ,,, Lerner and Mangini just both happen to be in New York .. That's all

I would be willing to bet Jerry Jones will throw a ton of money his way, no clue why I feel like that but just a guess, but this is somewhat shocking as well.

Hey, the more viable candidates the better the pickin' IMO! And I guess more what I was getting at is the Pioli angle. I mean with the bitter taste that currently must be in Lerner's mouth about now, could he already have a behind closed deal with Pioli? Wouldn't that help explain both him and Mangini already being scheduled for interviews publicly?

well technically we could never guarantee Mangini the coaching job cause of the Rooney Rule. My dream scenario: HC: Shanahan DC: Mike Nolan OC: Don't know yet GM: Pioli
Go Browns!!

That's why I seperate "behind closed doors" with "public". There's a HUGE difference there.

You wanna hire a coach that once drafted Maurice Clerett?
at least he took him on the second day...LOL

If Clarett had not been a complete headcase, he had huge potential. Maybe Shanahan thought he would grow up.

Grimm's never impressed me. He gets alot of press, but really, I just don't buy the hype.
Schwartz is a stat freak. I don't want soup coaching our team. I say that half jokingly, but he is a stat guy. "Moneyball" bases every decision on stats. I have nothing more than opinion, but when you get someone that relies TOO heavily on stats, then there is a problem with making adjustments. Stats are important when used properly. My concern, as Schwartz is known for being such a stat driven guy, is that Fishher, and this is pure speculation and fear, has had to be the one to make adjustments to allow continued success.

LOL, nice.....however, I think a late round pick rolling the dice on a guy with that much potential wasn't a big deal. This is also the guy with a couple of real pretty rings on his fingers.
