I am just curious if anyone else clicks on the Ad Banners to help support the site? I think thats how it works but I do it at least once a message board session.

Do you click on the Ad Banners on this website?

I clicked it a couple times, but thats it. The Cleveland Caucasions t-shirt ad and one were you got to watch an episode of the new show "Crash" on Cinnemax. Good show, but Im not buying Cinnemax, even with their great after midnight shows.

Big time companys? I feel I already know their product and have my mind made up. Other then Nike and Gatoraid (huge Jordan fan) I dont think I ever bought anything based on an ad.

I answered no because I'm not allowed to click on the Ads or the Sponsored links in the Google Search thing on the Search page.

I voted yes because I do it every once in a while. Not often enough, but then again, I would rather give Purp some cash instead of clicking around.

Not often. But I have. Does that include site's sidecars like the arcade. I play blackjack, but badly. Cheaper than Vegas!

Yes, that is correct. It does directly support this site.

I don't intentionally click them....I seem to hit one once a day on accident from my iPhone though. I figure that counts.

Forgot all about clicking the banners to be honest. Used to do it evey time i logged out going back to when this first started.....guess i've fallen into the trap of taking this site for granted.

Another message board i frequent has this thing going on where posters can become "Support Members". Basically they stump up 10 bones a year, they get a little banner below their usernames and can upload/use their own Avatars as opposed to the site ones.

Additionally, theres a prize draw every month. All proceeds of membership goes to the running/support of the site. Thats summat i'd happy to be a part of (once a year paypal payment....fire and forget ) and i reckon people are happy to do it....just throwing that out there should Purp find the IRS knocking on his door.

Now....wheres that Hot Aussie Chick Dating link.......

I've lately been giving a lot of thought to offering that exact sort of thing.
There are a few things I'd like to get into place here first, but I think that it is something we will definitely see before summer hits.

At least he's being honest.

I have clicked on them when I see something interesting, but I don't regularly click them. And there's usually not something interesting on there.

TWO POINTS:

I am in internet marketing and make a FULL TIME living from it.

First: If these ads were CPA (cost per action - i.e.- the site makes money on each click), then any thread or message encouraging people to click on ads for the sake of racking up some extra money would be against the terms of use and get the site owner's pending funds seized and their account banned(closed).

Second: I looked at the ads on here and they seem to be CPM. The CPM model compensates based on the number of impressions or ads displayed. So to help the site earn more money we would need to view more ads.

This actually creates a catch 22. The primary cost for this site (assuming refs are volunteers) is the hosting. Hosting costs go up based on traffic (the number of pages served). So to keep showing one or two ads per page view but making an effort to show more pages would only result in an increase in cost to operate the site.

___________________________________________________

The most logical alternatives would be a membership fee, many more CPM ads per page served, or an affiliate store selling sports items (which we would all have to loyally patronize).

A more "Outside the Box" approach would be to have members contribute their creative genius and sports fan point of view to a weekly or monthly e-magazine or newsletter that could be sold for an annual subscription. This could be easily marketed, would increase membership and may even draw some national attention to the loyalty of the GREAT FANS we all know we are.

This way the board would still be free for anyone to use and become profitable at the same time.

I would be glad to help in anyway I can.

I can't even see the ads. I have Firefox With ADblock plus. It's an extension that blocks all ads.

So somebody answer a simple question....at least for you....

Does clicking ads help??? I have done it maybe 50 times today.

Somewhere else I read to refresh the page is the way to go.....so....what the hell do I need to do to help??

Hitting refresh works on most sites works because new ads will appear. I should have tested it out b4 I said something because I just tested it out on this one and it seems to be the same ad over and over again.

simple answer... clicking on ads doesn't help
The more you surf around on the site... the more the site will make.

Sometimes it seems that there is a correllation to # of clicks, most time it doesn't.

The biggest thing seems to be Unique or New viewers... and lots and lots of traffic / page views.

But it is all soooooo freaking inconsistent that it is impossible to count on it at all.... and of course there are all too many days where even 25,000+ page views will net only 28 cents.

Purp,

Think about starting a subscription newsletter and selling it via all the brownsbackers clubs.

Charge $10 bucks a year.

Then take the best discussions from your threads here to provide the content.

This would generate MORE users and INCOME. A once a month issue would take a few hours to prep during offseason.

Then a once a week issue during the season with threads like "What I saw", etc. There is a ton of original content in here and MANY Browns fans would love to read it from there email inbox!

Repackage information in a convenient format - Internet marketers do it all the time.

Or set up affiliate links to Amazon and Ebay for everthing browns related and tell everyone that you earn comissions on the sells and use them to keep the board up!

I am here for you if you want help.

If this ad network is on top of it's game it will not count refreshed pages.

CLICKS DO NOTHING FOR THE SITE MONETARILY!

The site gets paid for original page views. There is probably a 24 hour limit on an IP. Meaning - if you login within 24 hours of your last login, your page views don't count. This is why 25,000 page views yeilds 28 cents.

Unique visits and unique page views are all that counts.

Purp,

If you don't want to say, I understand. But how much does the site cost you monthly?

I know clicks dont mean much except it might help based upon the networks optimization with the CTR (f the the network we are on is doing that) and getting advertisers who are willing to pay a little more per impression. The difference is probably a penny out of 1,000 impressions.

It's also based upon how many ads are rotating on the network... right now it doesn't look like there is a high rotation. I'll try and find out what network we are running on. If I can talk to some people at my company that are more important that I am... I can see about adding this site to our network. We have many thousands of advertisers running. The more unique ads that are running the better it will be for the site.

i've been doing internet marketing for a year i've been in the adversting world for 4+.

are you more into SEO or SEM?

I'm into it all. I code and design, I search engine optimize, I do some Search Engine Marketing(got banned on Google once), but mostly I target free traffic and do a bit of Web 2.0 stuff. I have about 50 sites right now. Everything from Blogs to B2B services.

The current dedicated server lease is $119/mo. By the time I get done paying taxes on the money to cover it, I probably need the site to make $140-$150/month to cover.
I currently get a flat 2TB of bandwidth usage alloted.

I am soon to be moving us to a new custom-built Server that I will be building in the next several weeks that will then be going into a Colocation environment, which will increase the monthly fees to $125/mo. + any bandwidth overages there may be. The reason for the move is that the current hardware just doesn't have the cajones it should have.
Bandwidth for this one is metered on average throughput, not a flat amount of data. The $125/mo applies to usage of 1.5Mbps at the 95th percentile. Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue as current usage floats between 1.8GB to 2.4GB per day... which should be well within limits.
