yeah, he's just out of control out there. once he refines his technique, he'll be a good one.
but in no way do you trade a big if you're the cavs, we're thinner than we were last year, and that's not even counting not having z...
last year we had a very nice 4 man rotation of z/ben and andy/joe
now we have a 3 man rotation, and brown is really trying to phase hickson in, i'm not sure how ready he'll be come playoff time, but we have potential for the future in him...
he's playing a lot more than i thought he would, the way windhorst talked about him in the pre-seaosn, you'd have thought he'd be in the d-league most of the year, but the guy is good enough to play when the game still matters...
i would like to see him rebound a bit better... watch how andy works.. you should be able to have the same success as him, because you're physically gifted more than he is...
mike brown deserves a lot of credit too... i know i have always been in his corner, but i'm tootin that horn anyways...
getting this team, especially the new guys, to buy into the "no excuses" philosphy has worked to perfection, it's really easy to lose z and delonte and start to feel sorry for yourselves, to feel like it's ok if you lose to good teams on the road...
getting terrence kinsey to come out of nowhere and contribute the other night?
he probably will never win coach of the year as long as lebron is around, but he's more than deserving right now at the halfway point.
coach of the year awards have really gotten away from who's done the best job, it's more about the guy who takes the crappy team and makes them decent over the guy who takes a good team with a great player and makes them elite.... in all sports too...

Big surprise here, Hughes is on the block. Sat, Jan 24 G Larry Hughes if officially on the trading block. A contributor early in the season, Hughes was dropped from the rotation when G Kirk Hinrich returned from a thumb injury and hasn't played since Jan. 12. "Right now I feel we have to play our younger guys," GM John Paxson said. "I want to see Thabo (Sefolosha) get consistent minutes. We are working to try to move Larry, (but) Larry's salary is such that it's not always possible to do." Hughes is due to make $13.6 million next season. He's complained about wanting more playing time since arriving from Cleveland in the Ben Wallace trade last February. "The tough part for me is not playing," he said. "But I know at the end of the day it's not my fault. The opportunity wasn't there. I was brought here to contribute and I haven't been able to like I want to." (Yahoo! Sports) Uh yeah Larry, tell yourself it's not your fault if it makes you sleep better at night.

it was great when all the chicago media people thought the bulls bamboozled the cavs in that deal last year.
not only did we get rid of a bad contract and a bad teammate, but we got back a good young player, and a defensive force who's rejuvenated...

Yeah, that trade looks like complete robbery now!
Hughes was a locker room cancer that was being asked to fill a role that he didn't fit. Ben Wallace wasn't on the right team in Chicago. He comes here with a defensive oriented coach, and he's back to himself again. Delonte is a good young guard too. I'd much rather have him over Gooden, who always seemed to make a boneheaded move at the wrong time.
I remember having to defend Ferry over and over about that trade.

Delonte came from the Sonics with Wally. Joe Smith came from the Bulls.
Which means that for Hughes, Gooden, Damon Jones, and a bunch of backups, Ferry got Ben Wallace, Mo Williams, and Delonte.
I'd definitely give Ferry props for those trades!!! 3/5 of the current starting lineup.

i respected larry, even when he left, but when he dropped that quote about the cavs asking him to sacrifice too much to win, i lost all respect. you're a paid professional, and in your case, you're extremely overpaid, you sacrifice anything you have for the team, you owe them that much.
yes, i remember both of us defending the trade, and i believe both of us pointed out that it would make more sense next season...
well, here we are, the cavs are 34-8...
i said that trade was more about quality then quantity, it was about getting depth.
now we have depth, and ferry addressed the quality part with mo williams, and i don't believe ferry is quite done yet.
you could tell that the chemistry wasn't there last year, and this team still played boston tougher than any other team boston faced, including the lakers in the finals...
an offseason, and training camp later, and delonte west is much improved, and more comfortable, ben wallace looks like he's under 30 years old, and even wally has been a little better (still don't think he quite fits)
we're the deepest team in the league, i think most would agree with that, we lose 2 starters, and we're rolling right along...
the funny thing is dan gilbert hired brown before ferry...
maybe randolph is taking a page out of the gilbert book of business...

It was also about getting guys in here who are winners. Its not always about who has the most talent. It is about being able to put aside your personal goals and doing what you need to do in order to make your team a winner. Larry H is a extremely talented player, he is NOT a winner. He is more interested in the DA Man.

larry hughes is all talent and no heart.
delonte west does not have all the talent in the world, but the guy has ten times the heart larry hughes has.
ben wallace? undersized? zero offensive game? perfect fit. a champion...
ben wallace is the anti-larry hughes, he really is.

Hard to believe it was only a year ago that you and I were defending Denny Ferry, explaining that he had done a pretty good job, despite the destruction left by Jim Paxson. Now, people are mentioning him among "GM of the year" candidates.

I remember that. I thought it was a good trade at the time as well. Anyone who actually watched us last year could see that Larry was not going to be part of the big picture. I think Delonte was the wildcard in that trade and it sure has panned out.

With how well the team is doing without 2 key players. Im starting to think that the best think to do is to not make a trade and leave the team the way it is.
The way the Cavs are playing thru injuries, they are becomming a better team.

larry hughes is all talent and no heart.
Actually, the guy is not all that talented, that's really the scary part when you think about it.. He had those few good years with Washington when they were just runnin up and down the court.. Put him in ANY half court system (a vast majority of teams rely on their HC offense) where he has to actually run plays through the offense and he is garbage at this point in his career. He is a jump shooter without a jump shot.. Guy aint no slasher...Guy don't finish around the rim...
Only teams he would be happy on are the Knicks and Warriors...

Cavs' Ilgauskas back at practice Comment Email Print Associated Press
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Beating general manager Danny Ferry in games of one-on-one has gotten old for Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He's ready to play with the bigger boys again.
Cleveland's starting center, sidelined for nearly a month with a broken left ankle, returned to practice on Monday and afterward said he hopes to play this week. Ilgauskas participated in fastbreak, shooting and defensive drills as the Cavaliers worked out for the first time since returning from a West Coast road trip.
"It was enough," Ilgauskas said. "I got winded."
Ilgauskas originally hurt his ankle on Dec. 10 in Philadelphia. He came back a few weeks later, but was still bothered by soreness and further tests revealed a small fracture. He hasn't played since Dec. 30, but last week was cleared to resume on-court activities. He has been playing against Ferry, Cleveland's GM and a 13-year NBA veteran.
"Playing Danny one-on-one is not the same as Dwight Howard," Ilgauskas cracked. "I missed not playing. I missed the guys. I've been home all this time, so I missed the camaraderie."
The 7-foot-3 center is hoping that he can be ready to face Howard and the Orlando Magic on Thursday in a matchup of two of the league's top teams. The Cavs went 3-1 on their recent trip, and at 34-8, have the Eastern Conference's best record. Orlando is 33-10.
Ilgauskas is averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Cavs, who until recently have struggled without him in the lineup.
"It was nice to have the big fellow back out on the court," LeBron James said after practice.
Go Browns!!!

Z's at the age now where that ankle may never be 100% again. I, too, worry that he'll re-injure it... but you have to trust the doctors I guess.
In any case, I've been missing Z and his rebounds. I hate not dominating teams on the boards like we're used to seeing. Plus, his outside shooting makes him a mismatch for so many players. Hopefully, the readjustment period to him being in the lineup won't be too long.

have you noticed blocked shots are down too? i mean lebron has his highlight layup denying blocks, but just overall the team is missing z and his long arms... defensively he was playing as good as i have ever seen him play.
and yeah, i'm sick of getting beat up on the boards. that will change when the big man gets back. nobody beats us on the boards when we're 100%, best in the league.

great game by mo williams tonight, that might be the game that gets him into the all star game... it wasn't there tonight, i think we were set up to lose, like i said, first game back from a west coast trip is always taught to be treated like a road game, you left off your guard a bit, you get comfy, and the other team almost always knows it... but mo came through... there is no way in hell we win this game last year, we lose by double digits... playing like we did ain't gonna win us a championship, but what it does, is keep us in the race for the top spot, that's all that matters, we know what brand of ball the cavs play in the post-season, it's just a matter of getting homecourt throughout, and i honestly don't care what the wins like, just that we keep pace, and right now we are tied with the lakers for losses... 35-8, wow... and we get a boost on thursday with the big man scheduled to come back... i think if we win, friday night could be similiar to tonight, with a horrid clipper team coming to town, and coming off a big win... second night of back to back... but like coach brown says, one game at a time

I haven't been to a Cavs game in years. They were at the Richfield Coliseum back then. I remember being in the very last row at the top with a Youth Ministry class..... had to have been 18 years ago or so. Wow.
I have tix next month to the Pistons game. I tried to get some tickets the last couple years, but the games my friend tried for were sold out, and we never pursued it further. The tix were a Christmas present from my dad to me, my wife, my brother and sister, and I can't wait to go up.
Getting Z back is big, and getting West back will be bigger. We learned something in the meantime- we do have some depth.

you will really enjoy yourself man...
whether you're up in the nosebleeds, or close enough to hear the players talking..
dan gilbert and his staff have done a marvelous job of making the experience well worth the price of admission. i try and go every time i am in town...
like i said before, with this team, i have the same vibe i had in '95 with the indians... and jacobs field was a mad house every single night

We're in some decent seats. Lower section towards the corner, maybe halfway up.
My sister got hooked up in December by some guys she knows. Sat right by the Cavs bench and was on TV half the night. That'd be awesome.

awesome, i hope you have a blast, it's the pistons so the crowd is gonna be amped up... i wish i could fly into town for the lakers next month, that place is going to be nuts...
going down there and getting tickets ain't a bad idea either, i've been buying tribe and cavs tickets from the same guy down there every time, he always hangs out across from the winking lizard... usually only charges a few bucks more than face, black guy with glasses... good man.

I'll keep that in mind.
We actually wanted the Lakers game, but couldn't get 4 tickets at that time. Our second choice was the Pistons game, which should still be a great game.

just seems like there is always something going on...
and i love that they flash steeler/michigan/carlos boozer pictures on the jumbotron when the other team is shooting a free throw...
plus the atmosphere is awesome, people are excited, everyone is loud, it's everything a browns game isn't right now.
there is just that sense that we're gonna win, not one quicken loans arena crowd has gone home unhappy this year....
and the more i look at this schedule... if we stay perfect at home through the laker game, i will become a believer in 41-0...

Unfortunately, I think all-star votes were already submitted.
Mo deserves it but the PG position is insanely crowded in the east. Hard to argue with any of the 4 (Rondo, Mo, Devin Harris or Jameer Nelson) being selected.
As for the Cavs, please God, do not trade J.J. Hickson. I know, I know......win now but the guy is going to be an absolute monster. I would hate to see him be shipped out for a veteran big who might just be a rental player.
Some people forget he's only a 20 year old rookie with just 1 year of college under his belt. He's still kind of growing in to his body. A lot of big men take a while to blossom in the NBA. Even so, he's already shown some pretty impressive flashes. He's going to be a good one.
As for the team......not sure how anyone could ask for much more at this point. 34-8. Wow! Pretty amazing to watch this team continually get better night in and night out. Mo Williams has been the move of the entire NBA off-season. Still can't believe we traded a box of cracker jacks for him.
As others have said, kudos to Ferry. I was in the minority (with some others on here) in defending some of his moves and thankfully, we've all been rewarded. He's done a phenomenal job, all while maintaing our roster flexibility. At this point, it would be a crime if he weren't GM / executive of the year.

the votes are in, but i believe the coaches can still have their say for the last guy or two... they have to finalized the roster in a few days, all 30 coaches vote.
no way he jumps devin harris who will end up getting most improved player, but considering the cavs have the best record in the league, and are only sending one player may actually leapfrog mo over nelson...

I was able to get some tickets to the Lakers game with the 3 packs they are selling. You had to buy tonight's game (just got back ) and the Grizzlies game next month though. I had center court, upper deck, 2nd row so the seats were really good. I was really hoping Mo would get the triple double along with Lebron. I'm sure that hasn't happened too often...

I've got tickets for the Clippers game out here in March, and I can't wait! Would of liked to have had tickets to the Lakers/Cavs game, but those were going for silly prices. And good to see you back on these Cavs threads Nas.

Lil' Trade Note...
Hopefully Ferry DOES NOT even think about Miller in a trade...
This dude has no flippen idea of what Defense means...Keyin' on him last night made me cringe...
Camby should be the ONLY target if we must make a deal...
Go Browns!!!
