I thought that Lerner was interested in talking to him.

IF GM is not that important then we should hire Mike Mayock. He does an excellent job evaluating players and we don't need to worry about him provding leadership we have Mangini for that and we don't have to worry about the salary cap we have McCracken. Basically we are looking for a Gm to run the draft? So why not Mayock?

This is one of those times.

But seriously, he's right. It's fun to speculate and act like a know it all – I do it all the time – but who really knows what's gonna happen??

....That's an interesting Idea....However we could end up with a 3 Headed Monster unless Mangini , while listening to Mayock and McCracken makes the final decision....

Maybe it's my chemo fogged brain, but I thought someone posted an article that he was being considered by Lerner. Maybe not.

I see it like this....you can have a good team without a GM...you can't without a coach.

I wish I'd have said that....

A playoff loss could become Lions' gain

This weekend's playoff games could affect the Lions' coaching search.

Four candidates are defensive coordinators on teams still playing. Jim Schwartz's Tennessee Titans face Rex Ryan's Baltimore Ravens today; Steve Spagnuolo's N.Y. Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles, and Ron Rivera's San Diego Chargers face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The Lions cannot offer an assistant the job until his season ends, under NFL rules. If they want someone who goes to a conference championship game or the Super Bowl, they will have to wait.

That is risky. The Lions risk not landing him, because other teams might want him, too. They risk not putting together an ideal staff under him, because potential assistants might be snapped up.

If the Lions don't want to wait for someone, they could make a move next week. If they don't make a move next week, that could indicate they are waiting for someone.

The Lions have interviewed Schwartz and Spagnuolo. They have not interviewed Ryan or Rivera. If the Ravens win today, Ryan could interview tonight or Sunday. Rivera has said he will not consider other jobs until the Chargers' season ends.

Teams can conduct second interviews with assistant coaches on Super Bowl teams the week after the conference championship games.

Candidates on teams out of the playoffs include Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who was to interview Friday in Detroit, as well Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, Miami Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles and Washington Redskins secondary coach Jerry Gray.

The Lions also have shown interest in Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, though he is finalizing a contract extension at his school.

EXECUTIVE DECISION: The Lions have contacted former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage to gauge his interest in joining the front office, according to nationalfootballpost.com.

we've all been kinda bantering that around for a few days with those that thing the Browns moved to quickly to wrap up Mangini..

I've said it before, if Mangini is the guy he wanted, why te heck wait?

LOL,, talk about things going full circle.. wasn't it just last year that Savage maybe made the best trade of his life to scoop up Rogers from the Lions? LOL Maybe they think he'd be a good person to have around.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Actually no, I seen on rotoworld that the Lions were interested in Savage and found the article and posted it. I just kinda skimmed it and didn't really read it but wwas gonna come back after I played cards with my son and finish reading it.

But yeah I thought Lerner was smart in acting swiftly and signing Mangini. Cause basically if you think about it we are the first ones to sign a coach and it appears no other ones are getting hired for a bit so that leaves us able to pick and choose whoever we want to bring into our staff.

Hell if we weren't binded by that back when Romeo got hired things might have turned out different (doubt it though).

And yeah the Lions must know how bad they got duped and are trying to move in on his "secrets". But what they don't know is that Matt Millen was just that dumb. *shhhh*

I hope the Lions pick up Savage!

Going 0-16 two years in a row would be an unbeatable record, of sorts!

I think Savage could evaluate talent, and seemed to be an intelligent guy, but he and RAC didn't agree, and I think he was a bit arrogant, which lead to his downfall.
