It's too bad that NFL.com doesn't list the front office staff of the clubs.

No, but each club lists them individually... if your looking to do some research,, just start with the most successful clubs over the last 5 years.

Then narrow the choices down by the Player personnel side and then narrow it down further by how many of them have at least 5 years experience.

You could even go further,, start with the most successful teams that ran either a modified WCO or 3-4 D. Those executives would be more likely to be experienced in looking for the type of player we'll be wanting on the Browns...

Did I help you at all?

How about this guy:

Quote:

Mark Dominik
Director of Pro Personnel

Mark Dominik enters his 13th year with the Buccaneers organization, including his seventh as Tampa Bay’s Director of Pro Personnel. Dominik was added to the Buccaneers’ staff in June 1995 as a pro personnel assistant. He served in that capacity through the 1997 season before assuming the title of pro scout in 1998. In 2000 he was elevated to the coordinator of pro personnel before being promoted to his current position. In 2002, his eighth season with Tampa Bay, Dominik helped guide the Buccaneers to their first world championship in Super Bowl XXXVII against Oakland.

Dominik’s responsibilities include coordinating the recruiting and signing of all NFL free agents, while also monitoring NFL transactions and handling player tryouts. In addition, he is in charge of Tampa Bay’s scouting efforts of all other professional football leagues, including the NFL, NFL Europe, the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football Leagues.

Dominik, a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, joined Tampa Bay after spending a year-and-a-half working in both the college and pro personnel departments for the Kansas City Chiefs. Dominik has a bachelor’s of science degree in sports management from the University of Kansas. He and his wife, Amy, have one son, Davis.

Or this guy
Quote:

Biography

Les Snead heads into his 10th season with the Falcons personnel department and seventh as Director of Pro Player Personnel. In his role with the Falcons, Snead oversees the Falcons scouting effort of all professional leagues, including the NFL, the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League, as well as providing evaluation of all available free agents. He also plays a day-to-day role in the analysis, evaluation and management of the Falcons current roster and provides salary value analysis of all player acquisitions, while aiding in the research on how to acquire future free agents.

In addition to his duties with pro personnel, Snead also assists with preparation of the annual college draft. He is responsible for cross checking select colleges, players and positions across the country, as well as providing comparison analysis of current college players with today’s NFL players. Snead came to Atlanta from Jacksonville, where he worked in the pro scouting department for the Jaguars from 1995-97. During his NFL career he has participated in one Super Bowl appearance (with the Falcons) and three Conference Championship Games.

Les played tight end for Auburn from 1992-93 and was part of the Tigers’ perfect 11-0 team in 1993. He also earned Southeast Region Academic All-American honors during his college career. This 37 year-old native of Eufaula, Ala., was a graduate assistant at Auburn after his playing days were over. Snead also was an administrative assistant of football operations at his alma mater in 1995.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in Psychology and planned to attend medical school until he was offered a graduate assistant coaching position at his alma. While working as a graduate assistant he received a Master’s of Education degree. Les has finished two marathons. He and his wife, Elizabeth, reside with their son, Logan, and daughter, Cannon, in Braselton, Georgia.

Just a quick look around... what I know about these two is listed above... but they seemed interesting at a quick glance.

These are two guys you could bump up in title and offer a real incentive to move into a role with even more clout. All they have to do is get or be on the same page as Mangini..

Thanks Daman, interesting stuff you found there.

I'm sorry, I was going for a quick quip that since NFL.com lists our new DC before anyone else knows about it, if they listed the front office staff we could just check there. It was a rather vague note on my part. Sorry to make you go to so much work but it is interesting stuff.

Actually Peen, I was just offering to help Tulsa..

But once I started looking at different teams websites it made my point from yesterday about there being plenty of candidates out there, even more valid.

If all we do is look at those that hit the media, then we are probably missing some really good guys.

I guess it's the recruiter in me that made me dig a little

If randy puts me in charge of surfacing candidates, I'll fill up his and Manginis calender for a week. Yeah, I'm that freakin good

Heck, maybe we should be happy that everyone is ticked off about this (at least in the sports writing world). They loved Butch Davis, they loved RAC/Savage. Maybe this is a good sign?

Here, here!

Good post brownsFan

The pessimism is truly amazing....

I agree, everyone jumped aboard the RAC/Savage band wagon as if we were a lock for the SB! Then after the 2nd year of nothing, people were starting to grumble about the lack of progress only to be insulted and told they were morons...give them five years to complete their plan. Then the fluke season where everything just about went perfect, only to be followed by this years beat down to reality.

We are a ways off, anyone watching the playoffs can see just how far we are from playing at this level. The speed and intensity with which these teams are playing hasn't been seen in C-Town for years!

I have no idea how Mangini and the resultant staff will perform. I do know I have a few thoughts on what they should do to try to turn this around, and make a big impact this first year but this is not the thread. I will wait for some sign where they are coming from.

Anyway, all the previous failures were hailed as if they couldn't fail, yet they did. I, like you, are hoping that everyone puking in their beer over this is a good sign. No expectations, only room for improvement.

Don't use wiki as a legit source, I could edit the page right now if I wanted to giving us a new head coach or any other team for that matter. Wiki is a search engine tool, not a reliable information site, just an FYI.

It's being reported on other sites that it's a done deal, and it will be announced some time in the next couple of days.

It's not a big secret.

Point? The fact is Wiki is not a legit site, do you have facts stating that it is? If not sure the speculation is there but it is not final until final and believing a site you or I can edit is highly unreliable. Speculation is running wild on a site anyone with an internet connection can edit, oh yes the site as others is dead spot on. Wrong.

I'll wait for the official announcements until then speculate away.

Wow, there was a topic started a week or two ago about how the Browns had too many coaches. They do have too many coaches. I didnt check every team but I think the Browns had the most. I wonder if thats on Crennel or Savage? Its been documented that the two didnt see eye to eye on his assistants.

Good find mutt

I stated in a Chud topic, in a gameday forum during the season, that Chud seems to need a little help. Having plays ready in certain situations and someone keeping track of when certain plays werent working in certin situations maybe to help when it was time to call a run or pass. Things along those lines. I for one couldnt be an OC, but I feel with some experiance I could help an OC on when to do certain things. One poster replied "If Chud needs help doing those things he shouldnt be an OC". Maybe thats true. But after seeing all these assistants a team has, some teams do have people that help the cooridinators. Maybe the help Chud has was the problem. Maybe the coaches had too many people reporting everything they do that it made it a harder or a more unstable working environment.

Ravens' playoff run keeping GM candidate Kokinis out of Browns' reach

by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter

Sunday January 11, 2009, 10:02 PM

CLEVELAND -- Next stop for George Kokinis is Pittsburgh, not Cleveland.
The Baltimore pro personnel director will remain off limits to the Browns for at least another week after the Ravens advanced to the AFC Championship Game over the weekend.

The Ravens will play the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday in the conference title game. Winner advances to the Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 1.

Kokinis was scheduled to interview for the Browns' general manager job with owner Randy Lerner on Sunday. Even if Kokinis is gung-ho about reuniting with long-time friend Eric Mangini as the new Browns' management duo, the Ravens don't have to release him until after their season is over.

That could be as late as Feb. 2.

Lerner has said there isn't an urgency to name a general manager until preparations of the draft begin in earnest.

Well, guess what? They begin in earnest for most NFL teams Monday in Houston, where college players have their first practice for the East-West Shrine Game. The game is Sunday.

The next event is the annual Senior Bowl college all-star game in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 24. NFL coaches and scouts start congregating on Jan. 18 for player weigh-ins and interviews.

The Browns would be represented at these events by Mangini and their scouting staff, which remains intact, if a general manager is not hired by then.

There is also the pool of experienced GMs who, like Sundquist, are currently not with teams, such as Floyd Reese (formerly Tennessee), Charley Casserly (Houston and Washington) and Tom Donahoe (Buffalo and Pittsburgh).

I'm keeping Sundquist's name out there...if Kokinis backs out.
But this is interestings..

Browns' owner says coach more time-sensitive job than GM

By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sports writer

POSTED: 09:44 p.m. EST, Jan 09, 2009

Now that he's landed his coach in Eric Mangini, Browns owner Randy Lerner vowed to be ''thorough and thoughtful'' in his search for a general manager.

That means widening the scope of his search beyond Baltimore Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis, a close friend of Mangini's whom he's scheduled to interview Sunday.

''If George Kokinis is the right guy, he's getting hired,'' Lerner said by telephone Friday afternoon from his Long Island home. But he added, ''I'm not rubber-stamping anything,'' and said he won't hire Kokinis on Sunday night.

Lerner seemed aware of recent criticism that he's going about the process backward by hiring the coach first. Many have suggested that Lerner should have found the right general manager and allowed him to assist or lead the search.

''Fans say I don't get it, I'm not a football guy, but I've been doing this six years in a row,'' Lerner said. ''When you think about it every day of your life, you do pick up one or two things. The Browns are trying to become a legitimate organization with checks and balances, roles and responsibilities.''

Lerner said he felt more urgency to hire a coach.

''The GM operates in a spring cycle — talent evaluation, free agency, the draft board, getting rid of players, negotiating. The GM has a certain time of year, while the coach operates on the calendar year,'' Lerner said.

Lerner didn't seem to feel that a new general manager would have offered much to the process.

''He's never worked in Cleveland, he doesn't know the organization, doesn't know the players, what they've been through, doesn't know the criteria and the process of hiring the head coach. When you lose two-thirds of your key executives in the GM and head coach, you're trying to put a puzzle back together,'' Lerner said. ''These are going to be two guys reporting to me, not one reporting to the other. I'm not going to fall into that trap.

''I went with the time-sensitive hire before the less time-sensitive hire, but with the emphasis that they be collaborative.''

Perhaps angered by comments from media and NFL analysts like ESPN's Trent Dilfer that the Browns are a dysfunctional organization and motivated by ticket sales, Lerner is trying to tune out the talk.

''I don't want to [anger] any fans, but I do want the best candidate,'' he said. ''There's so much to this process. I want to block out the notion that I want to be a pleaser. The duties are greater than just trying to get local support. I want to put the club in the right situation. That takes learning and listening and experience and taking the nightmare we've had over the last half dozen years and making some sense of it.'' In the six years since the Browns made their last playoff appearance in 2002, their combined record is 33-63.

Cleveland.com reported that Atlanta Falcons President Rich McKay no longer is interested in the Browns' top football job and Kokinis is not sure whether he'll leave Baltimore. But Lerner mentioned other possibilities like Nick Caserio, a Lyndhurst, Ohio, native and John Carroll University graduate who is the New England Patriots' director of player personnel, and Charley Casserly, who spent 16 years as a GM with the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans and now works for CBS Sports.

''I'm talking to more people and scouring around more stones. Young guys like Nick Caserio, older guys, middle guys like Charley Casserly, there's a lot of them,'' Lerner said. ''There's much more to finding a guy when you have a structure with a club president. Clubs like the Colts have a different approach.''

Browns President Mike Keenan handles the team's business operations, while Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian oversees football and administration.

Former Denver Broncos General Manager Ted Sundquist, fired last March, has expressed interest in the job.

''I don't know Ted. He's out there,'' Lerner said.

Another name that has been mentioned is Polian's son Chris, the Colts' vice president of football operations.

''Interesting,'' Lerner said. ''That would be a rookie situation.''

Lerner said he never got into contract talks with Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli, the second man he interviewed after Mangini but not seen as an option now. Pioli also interviewed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

''We talked for hours about football organizations,'' Lerner said. ''Money never came into the conversation with Scott.''

As for reports that Pioli made exorbitant demands, Lerner said, ''That's completely and utterly untrue.''

After firing GM Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel, Lerner said he immersed himself in the coaching search and an organizational review. So he planned to take a break Friday and part of today.

''Maybe I'm being too deliberate,'' he said. ''I had a whole group that did nothing but look at the organization, department by department. Everything that touches the players — the cafeteria, video, strength and conditioning, equipment, trainer — and what can we learn from other clubs. Plus the coaching search. Then when we finally interviewed Eric, we got his input into that process.''

The first Browns coach hired with prior experience since 1971, Mangini went 23-25 in three years with the New York Jets, including two winning seasons. In the past week, television analysts have described Lerner as ''infatuated'' with Mangini.

thanks for the read Attack...always better to get it from the horses mouth rather than the Horses Ass - like guys such as Grossi

Grossi was pretty much at the lead of Burning Savage at the Stake and now he's saying he's the best guy for the job.

Kokinis cold feet... this is his life time dream opportunity - its obvious to me why we haven't made the GM decision yet. We are waiting to interview Kokinis. Randy of course wants to make sure he is at least half of what Mangini has suggested. If so the job is his.

But Randy is doing his due diligence - and two guys top on his list if the Kokinis thing falls through probably would be Caserio or Casserly - he also could get wowed by somebody like Sundquist. But right now he's trying to get interviews done that he can. The one he wants is Kokinis...who if he turns out to be totally unqulaified in the interview then we go with plan B.

Pioli is not entirely out of the mix...but again he now is not our #1 cause it the possibly working relationship of Mangini and Kokinis that looks attractive. Pioli will keep the door open as long as possible. I do think he would love to be the GM involved with bringing a Winner back to Cleveland. Now that McDaniels has been named HC of Denver I'm sure that makes them look much more attractive than before. Even so he would keep the doors open here just for the value of leverage in his negotiations with Denver.

But as much as Kokinis turning us down, cold feet, turns out to be an idiot in the interview (all highly unlikely) but if that is the case. I think it would be the worst possible thing to happen. But Randy will not think its the end of what he's trying to build. He has alternate plans in place...good ones, ones that would work! Just like many writers and analyst - Cowher was not coming then the Browns must be doomed. After all they should have had the Dream Team of Pioli and Shanahan - yeah and lets just build our team by stealing all the good players from Madden while we are at it. These people live in a fantasy land and the only thing they ever ran was a Fantasy football team. And then they think they know. I couldn't believe Adam Schefter when he suggested that as the solution in Cleveland. Sounds great on paper except you got two heads that will eventually Clash for ultimate power...yeah real bright

The fact we are waiting to hire - is in fact proof enough to me the hire is Kokinis. As we well know in Browns Fandom...things don't always go as planned. End of the earth as we know it??? Nope, Randy has been doing his due diligence and has plan B, C n D ready.

It was a good read and helps re-enforce pretty much what I've felt is going on. Coke pretty much has first shot at the job. But only if Lerner feels he's the right guy.

He's not rushing into it. He has a possible goal in mind as his first option. But he doesn't consider it his only option. And despite what people say, I think he's going about things the right way this time.

I agree it seems as if Kokinis is the guy.

I also agree with Lerner that the coach is a more time sensitive job.

As for the Senior bowl practices...we will have scouts there. I am sure Mangini and whoever we actually have signed as coordinators will be there.

The Browns aren't going to go into the April draft with nothing but a copy of Athlons draft report as their guide.

Well, Guess what Grossi,, we have the entire scouting staff in place still and Mangini is here.. It's not urgent....

Besides, probably every candidate we are looking at will be at that event. You can count on them keeping the notes they make on each player..... so if one of those potential GM's land in Cleveland, they'll hit the ground running..

Grossi can be such a dope sometimes....

Possibly all but our current #1 candidate as that is not in his current job description with the team.

Who's that, Kokinis? I still don't know for sure if he's the #1 candidate. seems that way, but I see no guarantee of it. One thing for sure, appearances can be deceiving.

Just 2 weeks ago, Mangini wasn't on the radar and Pioli was the #1 GM candidate for the Browns....

I guess, I'm just not taking anything for granted...

Kokinis is the obvious choice because of the harmony that Lerner wants between GM & HC.

My concern is talent evaluation. We take it for granted that Kokinis can be "the man" in that regard. Yet we have no verifiable track record of success.

Forecasting college players into productive NFL players is no simple task. If it was - the records of people who do it for a living would not be what they are. All GM's miss on players.

Yet the most important task of any NFL orginization is talent evaluation both in FA and the draft. The responsibility can be the HC's and the contracts can be delegated to a GM. Or, the GM can be the guy who has the responsibility of the 53 man roster. In either case those personnel decisions are critical to success.

A Pioli/ Mangini combination on paper would make me the most comfortable. That is because Pioli has a record of success. The issue there is behind the scenes we really don't know if Belichick was the guy pulling all the levers.

We can only hope that a Mangini/Kokinis combination is the answer to get it right. As you move to plans B and C the risk reward factor becomes greater.

Lerner interviews Browns GM candidate Kokinis

They would have to wait if they want to hire him

Browns owner Randy Lerner interviewed Baltimore Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis on Sunday, and their meeting reportedly went well. But the possibility of hiring Kokinis as general manager to partner with coach Eric Mangini will have to wait.

The Ravens advanced to the AFC Championship Game Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, making Kokinis unavailable to join the Browns until their playoff run ends. That could be after the Super Bowl Feb. 1 in Tampa, Fla.

The delay will give Lerner time to consider other candidates. He vowed Friday to be ''thorough and thoughtful'' in his search and said he thought that there was less urgency in finding a general manager thanhiring a coach. As of Monday morning, no other interviews had been scheduled, a source said.

Kokinis began his pro career as an intern in the Browns' operations department in 1991, then moved into scouting. He has worked with Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome for 18 years. Kokinis met Mangini in 1994, when Mangini served as a Browns ball boy and public relations intern, and they were roommates for a time.

One of the main focuses of Mangini's week will be filling his coaching staff. New York Jets quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll is expected to be named offensive coordinator and Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan should be picked for that same post. By some reports, Ryan is already at work since his contract with the Raiders was expiring.

I don't either. But unless Lerner is lying..........

Quote:

''If George Kokinis is the right guy, he's getting hired,'' Lerner said by telephone Friday afternoon from his Long Island home. But he added, ''I'm not rubber-stamping anything,'' and said he won't hire Kokinis on Sunday night.

So unless Coke seems like somebody Lerner "doesn't want to hire", it seems going further with the interview process, he certainly leads the pack IMO.......

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If the interview went as expected and Bmore doesn't try to block it(and I don't don't know what they could do) ...he's coming..unless he says no.
But that would have been reported ..so I think it's a given..although Lerner may want to guage another.

Kokinis interviews with Browns, but wouldn't be available until Ravens are eliminated
by Mary Kay Cabot Monday January 12, 2009, 12:12 PM
CLEVELAND -- Browns owner Randy Lerner interviewed Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis on Sunday in the New York area and the interview went well, a source close to the situation said.

But if the Browns decide to hire Kokinis, they can't do so until the Ravens grant them permission -- and Kokinis will be heavily involved in scouting the Steelers for Sunday's AFC Championship game between the two teams Sunday in Pittsburgh.

It's conceivable Kokinis will be unavailable for hire until after the Super Bowl on Feb. 1 in Tampa.

As of last week, the Browns had broadened their GM search to include names such as former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist Colts and Colts Vice President of Football Operations Chris Polian.

New England director of player personnel Nick Caserio, a native of Lyndhurst, is also a name that's come up. Caserio was originally on the Browns radar screen in early December, but went on the backburner while the Browns were interviewing his boss, Patriots Vice President Scott Pioli.

Other experienced GMs such as Charlie Casserly, Tom Donahoe and Floyd Reese might also be considered, depending on what happens with Kokinis.

Thanks for the update.

That's what I was waiting to hear- whether or not it took place Sunday as expected. As much as I'd like this saga to end, I don't want Pittsburgh to make the Superbowl, so I will gladly take delaying our hiring until February.

Is that a Ravens fan talking? If by conceivable they mean "any given sunday," then sure. But the Ravens lost a lot of players in their game over the weekend ...

Maybe since God and Ray ray are on a first name basis these days they'll make it back to the super bowl.

LOL Maybe it was a ravens fan, but truth be told the statement, for what it's worth, is accurate. If they beat the Steelers next week, then Koks won't be available to start for us.
