Why do Browns fans get sensative when the media mention teams that have never been to the Super Bowls? Its down to 5 now..the Saints,Jags, Browns, Texans, and Lions. I realize the Browns and Lions have NFL Championships between them. But lets stop and ponder when these titles took place. In the 1950's and one in 1964. Football like alot things in this world, has evolved since then. Even the very term to decribe a title game has changed. No one says "hey who are you going to cheer for in the NFL Championship Game?" Now you say, " I think the Steelers are going to win the SUPER BOWL." The league then and now are 2 different enities. It was a total different landscape. There was only 12 teams in the NFL then. 2 conferences. Players went both ways. The playbooks weren't has complex as they are now. TV coverage, player contracts, etc Baseball was still king among sports viewing. The NFL as we know it now, mergered in 1970. The AFC and NFC. Be honest, how can a typical Browns or Lions fan relate to the 1950's? The average Browns-Lions fan is 15-45....blue collar guy who works 40 hours a week and has 2 kids and a wife. In the modern NFL,the Lions and Browns haven't got past the AFC NFC title games. The truth is, who cares about what happened in the 1950's pertaining to the NFL? How many posters here saw the Browns title games in the 50's or even the 1964 game? The NFL isn't obligated to bring up the titles of the 1950's and 1965 pre AFL NFL Championship Games. And don't even make a argument about the AAFC. There was 8 teams in the league. Their was such a gap between the 1st and 8th team.....they didn't have a draft. The Browns could cherry pick the best talent out of college. Dominating a 8 team league isn't saying much. The NFL barely considered the AAFC at all.

Well, quite frankly, not a lot of people really care too much about teams that HAVE been there, but can't win it. Being excited about second place is kind of sad.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Narrow the present day NFL talent down to 8 teams and tell me you wouldnt have 8 great teams. So one can argue that the present day talent is watered down, it's a double edged sword my not-friend.

Why do bengal fans take pride in LOSING 2 superbowls? I mean its great to make it to the game but finishing 2nd place shouldnt be a franchises goal.

from everything i've read, the aafc was arguably as good (and even as popular) back in that day.
i heard that some aafc teams even played in larger stadiums (chicago being one, i believe chicago's aafc played in soĆdier field while the bears played in wrigley field, 20k+ smaller than soldier field.
and it was proved when the browns wiped the floor with the defending champion eagles in their first game en route to winning the championship in their first nfl season.
the aafc was just as good.
it's a pro title. the browns can sure count that.

It's always laughable when a Bengal fan attempts to smack another team.

Yankee fans still brag about every one of their league titles since 1923. Just because it happened awhile ago doesn't mean it is any less significant.

I didn't realize significance was determined by how many posters on Dawg Talkers witnessed it. So I guess if no one on here watches the Super Bowl two weeks from now, then it doesn't matter, right?

Actually, the AAFC DID have a draft. Go look it up.

The point is that we made it to the Party & don't forget we still have two AFC championship trophies to display to your Uh, ZERO! Also get real, NO franchise has a goal of finishing second except maybe Cleveland because it would be miracle for them to get that far. In the immortal words from Medmann's song to you Clownies "Oh How You Blow"!!
Every year as they did this past week at the Steeler/Ratbird game, they recite the question "Who are the only NFL teams to have never played in a Super Bowl" & guess who tops the list, Oh yes, the Cleveland Clowns!
In Super Bowl XXIII, the Bengals were 8 seconds from a Lombardi & that's closer than you Clowns will ever be!
P.S. - How are you Cleveland Clowns enjoying the AFCN division basement that we B-fish slapped you down into at the end of the season. We left those goofy looking Elf pictures up on the walls for you so you would feel at home again!

Lots of ugly girls go to a party and go home alone and empty handed. You don't hear them bragging about it, though.

x2. You have never, at any point, been the best team in the NFL. You have never reached the top.
That is failure.

This is too funny! The last time I checked you Cleveland Clowns finished in LAST place, that mean you had MORE losses than us. So that means YOUR list is LONGER!!

When you keep the bar low as they do, then achieving a high standard is simple.
Baseball has the Mendoza line, the standard of 4 wins will now forever be known as the Bungle line......

i'm gonna bring this up again.
earlier in the football season, when the browns had more wins then the bengals, he was all about how the bengals would finish with the better draft pick and the browns would still miss the playoffs...
now he's flipped his switch, this child is hilarious...
hey medman? zero championships bro.

Not to mention the combining of teams during WWII because of a shortage of men. Ah yes, leather helmets... and racism too. Ask any Clown fan if they would trade their pre- 1970 history for the Steelers history since 1970. They are big fat liars if they say no. Anyone would rather have 1 SB championship like Tampa Bay, than 8 meaningless NFL championships like the Clowns. It's been almost 40 yrs. since the NFL merger. Will the grandchildren of Clown fans use the same old "we were good in the 50's" line when the Clowns still suck in the year 2043? Does anybody even know what an NFL championship trophy looked like? Please post a pic if you can find one. There probably isn't anybody on these boards that even saw a Clowns championship game. The next time the Steelers are kicking your arses in your house, your video people should play highlights of the Clowns '64 game on the scoreboard. That'll sure tell off all the Steeler fans that have invaded your stadium that day. They'll get depressed, forget about their 6 SB championships, and go home.
